    Both simplistic and brilliant.

    Hi, I just found you. Your tips really hit home. I just signed up at an art studio/shop, and need to make more art. I'm retired, and am not used to getting back into a busy schedule, but I'm doing it! I feel I should paint a variety of subjects, but I mostly enjoy painting birds, and starry night skies/galaxies. I don't have a website yet, nothing on social media yet, it's that new. Watching your video has been a big help!

      Thank you so much, and that's awesome! That's really what it takes-doing it despite how busy we are! I'm so happy for you. ♥️😄

    Interesting, truthful, and I like the delivery.
    Years ago when I first sold my work on the NY City Street level - then sometimes people would come around and ask a lot of questions on the creation process. They begin by leading me to believe they are planning to buy, and soon disclose they intend to create the work themselves, and want to know how to do it. I would recognize and say so that you can get all the information you want to, but the only thing that actually works is to actually do the work.
    And lots of it.
    As to posting all over social media and then get feedback - I have a different approach as an 'Outsider Artist'.
    You see, I believe there is a lot to chose from on Social Media anyway, and so to stand out differently I display my work outdoors, I take pictures, and and leave all the work there. This makes the newspapers - Ten articles thus far.
    But then later I show the pictures to people in the area and get their feedback. This is very enlightening, and it gives me my direction.

    What a great video! I want to start sharing my art on social media and plan to someday even sell it. (I'm a teenager and still on the beginning of my art journey 😄) The problem is that I just can't concentrate on one art style. I get excited by art easily and don't want to focus on one kind of abstract art. Any advice for me or do you think I will find my style by making a lot of art?

    • @JosieLewisArt
      @JosieLewisArt  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching! I think that your passion for experimenting is very common. I do think that your style will emerge as you are consistent in getting your studio time, but to speed the process up, I do recommend setting up some temporary "rules" for yourself, like pursuing one style over the course of a series (like 10-20 small works). I say no to far more ideas than I say yes to.

      @@JosieLewisArt Thank you for your comment 🥰 I already tried analysing what all the paintings I like have in common (texture and pastel/"natural" colours). And your videos also helped me a lot with creating a plan for my artwork! I will try to follow your advice though it's difficult to not follow all the ideas in my mind 😅

    Thanks so much for this. I have been making art since I was hot by a car. I painted for a while ( and wallpapered my walls with my work) and now I am doign origami. I gave about 20 pieces away for xmas and a few people offered to pay me to make additional pieces for gifts. This made me want to start an Etsy shop to sell my work as I love making it and people seem to be responding to it (more than to my paintings...). Your videos on the subject of selling art have come at the exact right time! I set myself a goal of making 20 pieces to start the shop and have been spending all my spare time on folding since. Can I give you a tag for an opinion once my pieces are made? I can take criticism! Thanks again

    Josie do you find originals sell more or prints? And if you have an awesome collection should you keep it to make prints or sell the original? Ugh such questions and thoughts to ponder 🤔

    • @JosieLewisArt
      @JosieLewisArt  3 роки тому +1

      I rarely sell prints, but some artists have a full time business selling prints. It's worth a longer discussion!

    • @patriciaannetripp4844
      @patriciaannetripp4844 Рік тому

      Sell originals, BUT first, take -or have professional taken-top notch photo with enough pixels to enlarge/print to print size you think you might want to have printed in future. Best of both worlds.

    Im curious with the success you've had how people got to know you and your work...did you attend lots of craft fairs...etc...even if you have an online presence its hard for people to become familiar with your work and grow that big of a following. I find it toughest for your name to get known and to sell consistently

    Generic bullshit.
    Niche down limits your abilities to sell.

    • @JosieLewisArt
      @JosieLewisArt  2 роки тому

      How so? My experience is that specialization and creating collections is very effective. Do you have a different experience?

      @@JosieLewisArt not only me but all successful companies. The idea of a niche is a complex idea. Those who niched are doomed to bs out of market in distant future. You may think you niched to drawing dogs for dog lovers, but it happens so that no matter the fact you draw dogs only you market to cat lovers and guess what? For some reasons cat lover buy your art. And than you market to Bike lovers. And they buy your art too. I bet you do have those cases in your practice
