      @@dantethunderstone2118 Yep. Eddie is so proud of his DL record for example or Biby of his log press record but that's pretty much all they focused on/focus on or trained specifically for so ofc they would put up a good number on it. Imagine if Big Z or Brian Shaw took time and only trained specific lifts back in their days, what they could've done on DL or Press? They set their records during competitions and not in specific competitions set only for those lifts. Nothing against Eddie or Biby but it needed to be said. If you focus on one lift for long period of time and disregard all others well you better do good at that one lift lol.

      @@MojKanal-cz1iz The funny thing is people talk about Eddies 216kg axle and how it was strict and easy but Big Z made 208kg look exactly the same, if not easier and both reps strict too. He could've flown past 215kg easily if it was in more competitions.

    The stone event is a stone press, stone load and natural stone to shoulder I think.
    Also don’t sleep on Evan, I reckon he could be top 3 at this comp. Great grip, fast, very good overhead and pretty decent deadlift

    • @TL13579
      @TL13579 5 місяців тому +7

      Agree with you on Evan but he may lose points on the deadlift as his pulling style isn't suitable to the elephant bar. He will be top 5 for sure.

    • @Micheldied
      @Micheldied 5 місяців тому +4

      @@TL13579I agree. I actually think the way he pulls is going to be a detriment to him on the elephant bar.
      Also, the way he's been training the sandbag to shoulder, he's just tossing it up and not treating it like a stone. He's not going to do that with the tombstone. I think that may hurt him as well.
      But Evan absolutely has the tools to do very well in this comp. I think he just needs to switch his training up a little on those two events, but hey, what do I know.

    Tom: He is not that good at the Arnolds´
    Oleksii: He is still trying to comeback

    Surprised to hear you guys downplay Novikov so much tbh. I agree that since his elbow issue/surgery last year he's been out of form but he started 2023 with a 2nd place ESM (crushed it till the stones) and another podium at WSM. His 2022 season was insane though especially considering the war in Ukraine. 2nd at the arnolds, ESM win, 3rd at worlds with multiple event wins, multiple giants live wins/podiums, 4th at shaw, and then a crazy win at the rogue invitational. IMO he can't be counted out

      Consider the players returning, Oleksii can´t just beat Thor, Martins and Mateusz, plus Bobby, Trey and Tom have gotten stronger.
      I love Oleksii, but remember from 2020 to date a lot of the stronger competition retired or took rest from injuries and other stuff. This allowed Olekssi and Tom to rose between the ones that where left, even MArtins got a big trophy despise showing up in much stronger form in the past.
      In the last 15-10 years, theres´been 2 eras, the first was dominated by monsters, Zydrunas, Hall, shaw and Thor, with Pritchett and Caron in the middle, there was always competition but the line was set with those 6 guys about 3 steps above everybody else. Then, they retired, or went silent, with Brian been the exception but in a less dominant form after so many injuries. That evened the field, so competition became harder cause everybody was on the same level without been monsters like the other guys. But now, the monsters are returning, not only previous champs, but also new guys that can go toe to toe with the numbers seted in the past

    • @cisrael468

      @@antoniocenteno1483 Guys like Oleksii are still very capable of winning comps in the current field. For example look at Pavlo K in the heats of WSM. Honestly if Mateusz can do like a low 900s deadlift, it might be him.

    IF Mateusz is still able to win multiple events (frame, axle, stone medley possibly??) the stacked lineup could actually help him dig out of the hole from deadlift. In 2020 he won four events but lost to Thor both because of his poor showing on the deadlift, and because Thor won the other two events and scored high in everything else. This year several athletes could take points from each other in different events, and nobody appears likely to score consistently high in every single event like Thor did that year. Of course, having only five events instead of six hurts him, and if he doesn't win multiple events then he has no chance to win it all.

    Didn't see the poll, to place my vote yesterday. it's a difficult question to answer because the show I most look forward to isn't necessarily my favorite show, or the show I find the most representative of truly determining the world's strongest man. you can point to events in all the four major shows from last year that weren't quite ready for prime time. last year's Arnold featured the stone throw into the sand pit... swing and a miss there... last year's world's strongest man final had that atrocious truck pull where all the competitors finished within two and a half seconds of each other, The Shaw classic featured two events not typically found in other competitions. the car leg press and the standing chest press, got to respect Brian for trying to help the game but those events don't have history in the sport to make them as respected, and finally the Rogue classic with the bulll pull another swinging and miss there. I look forward to world's strongest man because it has 30 athletes and it's the most exciting and well produced show every year, I think the rogue in the Arnold are incredibly awesome events with great kid. they just need more events to properly determine the champion, I think now that Brian Shaw's retired, the Shaw classic has the potential to be considered a show that truly determines the world's strongest man, I think you need at least seven or eight events props to Brian for making that so.

    • @Vampire__Squid

    The World's Strongest Man will ALWAYS be the pinnacle. The history and heritage of that event, wins it all.
    The only reason why anyone would say it isn't, is because Marius Pudz. is the King of that competition with 5 titles.. and that pisses some people off (or makes them jealous).

    I think it's going to be a battle between Mitch, Mateusz, Oleksii, and Tom.
    Tom is hungry enough and realizes how important this show is, and wants to prove a lot of people wrong. He has worked on his weaknesses, from OHP and deadlift to even cardio, so he's an even more formidable opponent than before.
    Mateusz is determined to prove to everyone and himself that he's still got it in him to be considered one of the best ever, and wants to get a win in a big competition like this. It would really set the tone for the rest of the year for everyone else to know that a shadow looms over them as the terminator lurks and waits to make his full return.
    Oleksii is adaptive and has great technique, and makes him a formidable force in virtually every single event he is in. And his ability to crank up the intensity every single time, whereas other people would be more economical with their energy
    Mitch is very strong in virtually every single workout and implement that he uses, and I'm sure he wants to keep his podium streak going for as long as possible, particularly with such a stacked lineup.
    Martins would be a good bet since he's so versatile, but I don't think he's been able to keep up his training and dieting up to the standard of the other athletes to be able to give him the edge he had on them in years past. I'd love to be proven wrong, though, because it would be an awesome testament to his feats in the Strength Unknown series.

      I mean... he hasn't ever... so that would be quite the undertaking for him to suddenly do it now, of all times -- especially considering they're all in their prime too. Even Bobby Thompson and Hafthor being present for this lineup on top of the other 5 athletes I mentioned would give Evan trouble securing a podium finish, let alone winning the whole thing.

      @SwoopGoose 5 місяців тому +1

      injuries mostly. little by little he was getting noticeably better and got up to 920-930ish. by todays standards, that can be middle of the pack. a few recent competitions, just clearing 900 could get you decent points. faires got 5th place with 902 at last years arnolds. back in 2017-2020, low 900s was usually towards the bottom.
      there was just a lot more competition in that event. thor, shaw, caron and pritchett were pulling over 1000 and there were a bunch of guys like licis, heinla (at the time), shyvlakov, bishop, kearney ect that were all around or better than 950. after his lat tear, mateusz just looks like he doesnt have confidence in the deadlift anymore.

  • @walk-york
    @walk-york 5 місяців тому +1

    I am gonna be controversial and say that Bobby Thompson will win. Too many grip based events for Tom to truly excel. Mitch's focus has been too split since winning WSM (plus the ref's are gonna be super strict on his reps to overcompensate for the rogue). Thor isn't back to his best. Martins again I think won't be at full and I think will do better on the frame carry than other events. I think Evan will do well. It's not the right events for Oleksii, too few events for mateusz to make up for his deadlift. This may sound harsh but I don't really know how Maxime made it into the show, he hasn't done anything impressive for a while now.
    But we know Bobby has great static strength, and grip, and will place solidly in all events so he is my favourite to win this, probably followed by Evan and then Mitch Hooper. Tom and Mateusz next, then Martins and Tom Evans, Thor, Oleksii, Oscar and Maxime.
