Man, thanks for that. This is a ton of work. I also edited and produced the music in this video. Alright i'm just tooting my own horn now haha. Thank you!
@trvrsoutdoors Well, I'm a little familiar with the rough terrain in that area, so I know how difficult it can be. I could never go that far with that much elevation gain in a day, though. If you had not done it, I would not have thought it could be done.
Solid send on this route. You make it look relatively easy for how hard it actually is and also big kudos for going solo. I've been up Snow Creek 2x. Both times with 2 other buddies who are competent rock climbers & fairly fit. Both times we started at 3:30am and BOTH times barely made it to the tram by 9:30pm!!! The area where you had to crawl on your hand we called 'the psycho forest'. Thanks for sharing your journey with us.
Ha! Love that name. Thanks for the compliments. I trained pretty hard for this and had my eye on it for years. It had to happen whether I was ready or not. Stoked to be a part of the club!
Thanks so much for a wonderful video. I have hiked and backpacked up to the Tram and San Jacinto from the Idyllwild trails, but never from Snow Creek. Very cool video. Thanks for sharing.
I 100% agree. I was actually very surprised that more people don't go there just for that part. Such beautiful desert meadows along the ridge. Thank you.
We did it on April 8, 2023. We started at the small community at Blaisdell Canyon. The avalanches made it easy for us to walk right past the Chalkstone. The snow around the Chalkstone had all melted by the time you did it.
Yeah I heard about your group doing it and I was actually gonna start with someone that night as well. They bailed, and I eventually turned around. That would have saved me so much time, haha. Good effort!
It was a Non-alcoholic beer. I can't afford to the post beer energy loss this early in the game on these outings. Thankfully the descent from the summit was so tame compared to the way up, that I felt comfortable having a good lager. There is no motivation like a summit beer, besides maybe one back at the car.
14h is the fastest i have ever heard. Congrats! We started too close to the closed water area and took steep way up (red fire water rocks) to Blaisdell ridge. Spent too much time and turned around at Isthmus. Bush whacking is the worst part of the hike.
So I have a friend who soloed it in like 11.5 hours haha. Insane. In my defense he had much better conditions than I did. As he went a month before me. The entire chockstone was just a snowy ascent. And of course he wasn't filming.
And agreed. I think doing a separate outing to check out the area is critical to success on this trek.. you just can't afford to waste any time. Kudos to you for getting out there though. The entire area is such a gem.
Epic...So is this area closed by fish and game/DWA? Or did you have a permit? Is it trespassing or only closed to vehicles? Hearing different things....think it may have been shut down in recent years but not sure.....great video!!!!!
I sent a reply to your other comment. Its just a small square mile that is closed to access. I went around that completely. More info here: www.trvrsoutdoors.com/blogs/peninsular-ranges/mount-san-jacinto-via-snow-creek
@@trvrsoutdoors I guess that area was open at one time but got shut down about 10 years ago. Thought it was just closed to vehicles. Bummer. Looks like a beautiful area...
I still remember it clear as day. West coast lager standing at 5.8% from burning bridge brewing in San Dimas. Great hoppy bite. I was skipping around and talking to myself all delusional on the way down the east slope from the summit because I was so drunk off like 2/3rds of it, I guess due to the elevation and just sheer lack of energy and probably also having nothing left in my gut.
Impressive accomplishment. Oh to be in that kind of physical condition. I would not have thought it possible to go up that creek in a day much less at all. I've stopped below along Highway 111 and looked up Snow Creek never thinking anyone could hike up that. Congratulations !
Thank you! I was BARELY in that kind of physical condition. Was sick for ten days afterward. The effort shocked my immune system I think. Thanks for watching!

@@asbestosclaimslaw Haha. Taunt the guard. Yeah. That falls looks like it'd be insane to get up close to. So many reasons to go back. In the right conditions, this is our own little Sierra Nevada in So Cal
Why go thousands of miles to other countries when great mountaineering is right here. San Jacinto is my favorite mountain on the planet, not that I have climbed that many. Now live in Az, miss this mountain a lot. Always wanted to do snow creek, so thanks sooo much for taking us along. Great job. Such an awesome mountain🏜️⛄️
Oh man, I shared that exact sentiment for this one. It is such a unique route that transcends the rest of Southern California outdoor spaces. I'm so grateful to have one of the best and most difficult mountaineering routes in all of the US in the middle of the desert in Socal. What an absolute gem. Thanks for watching!
Love the insane sj hikes! I want to go try some of these like C2C sometime soon. What shoes are you using until its time to boot up? Looks like a must have for the non snowy areas
Yeah I'm really glad I brought multiple shoes. My mountaineering boots are only comfortable for about 7 miles before I start getting annoyed. Those look like they are the Saucony Excursion TR15s. A solid choice trail runner that isn't light weight, but also built for tougher terrain and cheap as hell. Ive been using them since the TR10s
Yeah I used to use Salomon, but they were too narrow and I didn't love the crazy amount of grip on the speed cross. I've got ridiculously flat feet, so my current go to pair of shoes is the Merrell Speed Eco. Fantastic arch support and excellent build for the cross country stuff. @@seanclarke4061
There is no Mount San Jacinto. It's the San Jacintos mountain range, I was a state park forest ranger there. Back in the late 70s. When I was 16. Our supervisors mare a point of thats.
Not yet. It's in the closure area, so probably not in the books for me. But it totally looks like a hidden gem. Would love to at least get close. Maybe in another life.
Yes, that is in fact a feasible route that has been noted in trip reports. I agree that it doesn't look very safe. I probably would have tried it if I had access to the ground, but the snow separated that wall from my by about 12 feet, so I had to opt for another class 3/4 route, a 50 foot climb maybe 30 feet back along the route.
Now isn't a good time to go. With all of the warm temperatures, you are sure to have a rough time climbing in the snow toward the top. I think the opportunity to do it this year has passed. Sorry! But if you are intent on at least checking out the area, you can find more information at the trip report link in the description of this video
