One of the best hiking videos I’ve seen, if not the best. Brutally honest and heartbreaking. The CDT doesn’t forgive. You did a great job, so proud of you. Was nice to see Caveman meet you at the end. The trail isn’t going anywhere, you be back out there soon! Thanks for sharing your adventure!
Well, I guess I can retire from hiking now since I've made the best video ever! Just kidding, but seriously, I'm thrilled that you enjoyed it. The CDT definitely tests your limits, but it's all part of the adventure. Thanks for watching my friend!
I just finished this video and watched it end to end, very good editing skills. I also started a thru hike, of the AT back in 2017, it was a hard decision to quit, but decided it was not the most important thing anymore. Been finishing sections since then. Will be finished Aug 2024 Northern NH and Southern Maine.
Joyful, brutal, and all the lessons you learn about yourself in between. One of the most honest portrayals of what it feels like to attempt a long distance thru hike that I’ve seen to date. My own emotions entwined in backpacking came flooding back…Thanks for showing the world the hikers heart!❤️
They say It's About the Journey, not the Destination. And if the spark was no longer there then chosing to stop was the right decision for Tesla. His accomplishment and grit is amazing either way.. This was a great documentary. It showed the authentic human spirit.
Wow. The experience of thru hiking is obviously life changing. Brutally honest in its circumspection. Beautiful videography showing the ups and downs of the real experience. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, this certainly grabbed my attention. What a real portrayal of life on a thru-hike. I admire you for all you accomplished, and for your additional effort to share your experiences on the trail. Thank you!!!

Once again, as a croatian fellow pilgim through this journey we call "life" I salute to you!! Those kind of shits, life changing shits, make you double cross the road just in case you missed something on the other side! And you dont have to double check anything, for your son, woman, familly, friends, you did it all - from all sides of that road! You did it all - you managed it all! That is the beauty of your journey on continental divide trail...and maybe that trail divides, men from boys! Maybe it divides body from soul. But I am sure, that every trail in life, divides hate from love! Cutie was and still is, your future inspiration, beside yourself of course, to continue believeing in people, in GOOD, that God is above who is watching all our tresspasings and missbehaviour!! You divided yourself, and trail didnt do absolutely nothing with it! None of that buddies had nothing with that...its your inner strentgh that you had, all the way... Thank you, for your trully remarkable accomplishment, which that absolutely is! Proud of you, Tesla!! One of those days, I will meet you in face, and hug you just like that trail did hug you every morning!!! God bless you and your love ones!
Lord have mercy- what a trial by a trail. Thank you for posting a brutally honest look on thru-hiking. I've watched other videos that show the highs, not so much the lows- but you took us down into the abyss. Thank you- best wishes from the Land Down Under.
@@mawo-jmj thanks for watching and support. What I learned after putting this vid online is that people mostly don't like honest potrays of a thru hike. They reather watch sugar coated films.
Wow! Amazing job Tesla. Thanks for this documentary. I loved getting to meet you at the end of your journey in Wyoming. You gave the trail every ounce of energy and passion. Proud of you for persevering through it all. Thank you for interviewing me and I feel honored to have made it in to the film! You are amazing!!
Hey, Grit! I am so happy that you dig the film. Thank you for nice and supporting comment. All of you hikers that I have interviewed are the salt of this film. Your bravery and passion can be easily seen in every word you have said into the camera. I bow to you all!
Congrats!!! So beautiful movie...brave, brutal honest story about mankind and importance of our inner ( offten hidden) truth...spark...of melody of our heart! Stay tunned
Imagine being up there with a wind so strong it knocks you off of your feet :) Too bad my camera was off when wind blew us off..... But it was inspiring to be up there.
Thanks Nikola for your brutally honest and touching film. I was a northbounder in 2022 and had to get off the trail in Colorado due to health reasons. The difficult conditions such as steep snow climbs, many blowdowns and extreme elevation also led me to realize I was not having fun, not living my dream. After returning home I got checked out healthwise and returned this year to complete the trail. I wish you all the best on your future adventures, whatever they may be.
I'm truly grateful for your kind words. It means a lot to me that my film resonated with you and helped you on your journey. Thank you for sharing your story and I wish you all the best in everything you do!
Thank you for the touching documentary, Nikola. I admire your courage - it is not easy to open your heart and thoughts in such a public way. Wishing you and yours all the best, and many future hikes 💕
Just love you, man! Your hike never ends when you leave the trail... you just turn to another one. Was very happy to see how to lovely hearts meets you at the movie's end :)
@@NHTesla I know this, the similar situation... But you can count my heart also, just remember for the case that one guy lived in Serbia dreaming of meet you in person one day ;-) Have a smiley day bro !
Absolutely Excellent Film!! Great Job! I'm glad i was able to help you thru some of the toughness on trail. The CDT is NOT forgiving @ all. Best of Luck on your next adventures!
Wow Tesla, this really touched me! What a journey! Thank you so much for documenting and sharing your story. This is such a great memory of the trail and especially the awesome people on it. I wish Cutie could have seen it.
Thank you making this honest portrayal of your CDT experience. You did amazing to get so far under such trying conditions. Maybe the reason to hike the CDT is not to finish but to experience it's challenges. Your documentary shows that it is ok to quit if you are not living your dream. Your experience was balanced by including other hikers on the CDT. The news of Cutie's death in the documentary really affected me. His joyful personality and love of the outdoors was heart warming. He was living his dream - following his life's purpose. I feel like "Why I Hike Part 1" was a reflective, profound meditation on hiking and "Why I Hike Part 2" is an active experience of Hiking the CDT. Thoroughly enjoyed both documentaries. Thank you
Thank you for watching and this meaningful comment. Yes, Cutie was really joyful man and fun to be around. I hope chapter "Loss" is fair tribute to his personality and his life. I am glad I had an opportunity to be there and film his path and in communication with his family to put this chapter on. It was a big responsibility.
I'm just so happy for you and your journey Tesla. Wonderful documentary, love the way you made it for a video maker. Hope everything runs slow and you just enjoy every second with family and yourself...Great job Tesla!!!
Great documentary of the challenges you will come across. And even better tribute to Cutie, i still have the end of a roll of leukotake he gave to me in Chama before he hiked out. Although Cutie summed up the enjoyment and positivity which can be found along the journey as well that's missing from some people experience. I was shocked to find out of his passing 2 month after it had happened as I was behind and delayed due to injury. Great Documentary Tesla thanks 5th Course
Hey 5th Course, so glad to hear from you. I asked myself what happened with you after that camping in Southern San Juan's. First I thought you went ahead of me, but nobody saw you and then I heard you got injured but that was it. Yeah, Cutie's passing left us in disbelief, but on the other side - he was living full potential. I am glad I was there to film it all and leave a legacy in form of a story. Thank you for nice words, I am glad you like my film. PS. Here you can find some cool shots of you hiking: ua-cam.com/video/tfGFjSRIitE/v-deo.htmlsi=7AZBATmULhIAGg3d&t=214
I knew Alex ("cutie") in high school and am close friends with his sister and parents. What a wonderful tribute to him in this documentary, he was captured so beautifully. Thank you.
I had really big responsibility with portraying him well. I did my best and I am so grateful people who knew him are positive and that they like the chapter. Cutie was an inspiration and I truly am grateful I knew him, as I told in the film. Thanks for watching!!!!

WoW, just WOW, what amazing storytelling Nikola, we were there with you all the way, this movie is the ultimate emotional bombshell, thanks for sharing this with all of us.
“Give me more, give me fucking more you piece of shit”. I felt your frustration and mental anguish. Congratulations to you for going as far as you did.

Brilliant! A film that transmits emotions, that makes you think. All my admiration to those who are capable of doing something like this that takes you to the extreme of your physical and mental endurance. Also to those who try it. Anyone who regularly goes hiking or mountaineering will have felt frustrated at some point for not having finished a route or not having climbed a mountain, but then you realise that what is really important is the experience, the shared moments, feeling the sun after a rainy day, contemplating the beauty of the mountains. The important thing is the way, not the end and not to lose the spark 😊 Congratulations! Greetings from Spain
Watching this for the third time in the last few weeks. It’s maybe the most beautiful thru hiking video ever made. The shot composition, coloring, narration, and the music are all incredible. Is there a gear video? Curious about camera equipment.
Thank you for such a support. I am glad you like my film. Unfortunately I didn't made gear video. I was jist too tired for that, prior, during and after this endevour 😁

'Nikola your film is an exceptional insight into what the CDT is about. The interviews confirm the that it is hard on everyone, that every day presents a new set of trials and any oversight will have consequences. Thank you for not holding back on expressing your emotions. Great filming, editing and fantastic sound track. Best wishes.
Thank you so much. I remember taking interviews on the beginning of a trail and everybody was super positive. After Colorado stories were different and that's where I took majority of interviews for the final cut. I could see the difference in peoples attitude. The trail wiped them out and body talk and words were just filled with different energy. With a sort of veneration.
Pozdrav.
Nikola... E moj nikola... Tvoji usponi i padovi, tvoja ljutnja i tvoj osmjeh... Ti si mi velika inspiracija i želim ti puno sreće u budućim pustolovinama. Pratim te i pratiti ću te u budućnosti... Hvala ti na ovome. Veliki pozdravi tebi, tvojoj familiji i ostalim hikerima!
Hvala još jednom i pozdrav!!!! 😊
It takes a big man to dispel your ego and listen to the cold hard truth, "why am I here?". The bravest decision isn't always to blindly chase the horizon, proud that pragmatism overtook summit fever for you. Coming out of Colorado into Wyoming in the epic 2019 snowpack was a changing point for me, the next few states will still be there for an even more epic addendum to this beautifully told story.
I agree with you on bravery and summit fever. In the world of achievements and internet fame summit fever is a plague for genuine hiking experience and well-being. Usually non experienced ones are getting that fever big time but also experienced hikers can get stuck in that ego rush. I have seen some of them. Like my friend would say - joy is in the journey. And that is basically what I am aiming for. Thank you for watching and I am so glad intelligent and self aware people like yourself are digging film of mine. Every comment so far here was amazing, including yours, and I am so grateful for that.
Great and honest documentary. I had similar meltdown in Northern Colorado in 2021. Brutal trail. Definitely get back out and see the Wind Rivers sometime. Truly majestic. It was awesome to see Boss man, we hiked a little together on the AZT in 2020. Happy Trails! Beeine Weeine
Oh, you know Boss? Amazing. I love when he says "Absolutely brutal" 😁 I would love to go back. I shall see. Thanks for watching. I am glad you like it 😁
Thank you for watching and supporting my work. I don't know why this film of mine didn't get more views and likes. I guess it is not most peoples cup of tea. I don't understand your question.
It is very well told story. I'm sorry for Cutie...😢... You have created an extraordinary film. Respect💚👍👏As hiker I understand evry word and feel it in my soul and body... I'm really glad you did't give up. Wish you beautifull adventures and hope to meet you on a trail somewhere. Take care!
Well done. A strong person knows when to quit. Mountains and nature always win. If we are wise we step back so we can fight on another day. Life is long and the trail isn't going anywhere. I had to laugh at all the walk-thru shots, knowing from experience the setup, walk thru, turn around, walk back, grab camera and then walk thru again. Saw you showd it in the credits. Yes I a person who always watches the credits. Good job. Enjoy Croatia and your family
Thank you. I agree. Mountains are there and will wait for me to come another time :) Regarding walking thru I see that you have experience :) I did several extra miles by walking back to get a camera, that's for sure. It is good to know people are watching credits. I always put some good music and shots at the end for a reward :)

I look up to you and find it truly remarkable what you accomplished-hiking one of the toughest trails with all that gear, creating this incredible video, and paying an amazing honorary tribute to the late, great hiker Cutie. @@Dimitri.Schepens thank you so much. I am truly happy with all you have seen within my film. It was really tough for me to carry and execute this project but I did it in the end even if I didn't reach Canada. Thank you for watching 😊
@@NHTesla that you did not reach canada doesn't matter! (I had to quit the pct last year due to health reasons, health both mental and physical are most important). the circumstances where hard, the loss of a hiker friend and maybe other things, this hike was your personal journey and nonetheless amazing! you will have found some kind of personal growth in any possible way or kind, and maybe appreciation for new things! Every thru hike or thru hike attempt is is a new learning experience, with new highs and lows personal to every hiker out there, and thanks for showing yours!
Nikola you did an awesome job in the film telling the story and your honest emotions on trail. It is not easy and you showed the suffering that goes along with the highs and lows on a long trail. In 2023 I did not complete the PCT after hiking 1168 miles. I was happy to be with my family and off the trail but at the same time, I was disappointed. I came home after losing my father-in-law and was where I wanted and needed to be. I felt very alive on trail and at the same time realized how short life is. This year I am going to give the PCT another try and your video gives me encouragement because I know it's not going to be easy but I have a burning desire so I have to try. It's not always about completing the trail but enjoying your life. Enjoy your time with your family you made the right decision by calling it. If you change your mind the trail will always be there. Thanks again for sharing your journey.
Thank you for support. I totally agree with you. Trail will be there waiting. Good ouck on the pct 2024. I am sure you will enjoy next part. I did it in 2016. and it is still my favorite trail in the world 😊
Produkcija i pripovedanje, cista desetka! P.s. Beautifully done video! I have no interest in through-hikes or other types of big scale adventures for myself, but I really enjoy "armchair" adventuring with these videos and stories. My own hikes are limited to lengths of a week or less, as comfort is important to me. I view through hikes and other big adventures as containing a paradox. In order to accomplish a through-hike, a person needs sufficient ego strength, toughness, physical ability and endurance, to be able to put up with the many dangers and discomforts, as described here. And yet, being overly attached to a goal can be detrimental, as it deprives one of the flexibility needed to change plans when the situation is no longer rewarding, or becomes too uncomfortable, threatening or dangerous. One theme which is common among the large-scale adventurers, particularly mountaineers, is the great difficulty that many have in turning around, when the situation becomes too dangerous. So there needs to be a balance struck between commitment to a goal, and having the wisdom and flexibility to change plans or abandon the goal if circumstances dictate that is wisest. And Nikola I think you assessed the situation well. You put up with quite a lot of discomfort, but when you finally saw that you were having no fun and "the spark" had been lost, you were wise to quit and shift gears. Perhaps you can return another time to complete the Wyoming and Montana section. It's tragic when anyone dies on such a grand adventure, particularly a young person. Cutie's death is a sad mystery. Yet in recent times (specifically, the last 3 years) there have been an astonishing number of young people who "died suddenly", often in the midst of athletic endeavors, and a search online, preferably on a platform without censorship about such things, might provide some material to contemplate. There is also a film named "Died Suddenly" on the same topic which may shed some light.
wow now that was a fantastic video. speaking of dead trees be careful as I lost the closet person in my life 14 months ago from a dead tree on a trail. 5 feet from me thru the air came a missile (dead tree) and instant death for my friend. Horrific!! Today I have hope and my life is returning but I get that feeling about the light going out in your life. Have to get back on the horse and move forward to honour these people we loved that much Sheila
Hi Tesla. I got stopped from my ‘22goal by the trail being shut down by the forest service at Grants. But I’ll finish the trail probably by ‘24. Thanks for the help on the slick rock Marmot
I’ll be back out there June ‘24 heading south from the border. It was nice chatting. Too bad we crossed at the wrong spot and weren’t smart enough to just go back. Trying to cross on stick rock maybe wins for the dumbest thing I’ve ever done on any trail. Usually I’m completely alone out there. I was having fun with a bit of company. Lost focus. But I will get this rehike done. It’s a whole new trail for me because the route is so different than in ‘96. Oh yeah and stinking hard at 76 compared to 48. Thought I would be invincible forever. Silly Great film-heavy pack-hard work adding filming to an already difficult task The sad and terrible news about Cutie was so hard to hear. I didn’t know.

Thank you so so much for nice words. I am blushing! I hope we meet some day on the trail. Take care!
Wow, arguably the best thru hiking video that I’ve watched and I’ve watched many.
Thank you so much. It is a different hiking doc indeed and either you like it or hate it 😁 Thanks for watching and do subscribe for more content.
Stay tunned

Glad you like the music as well. Thanks🙏
The rocky ridges in Colorado look terrifying. 🏔️🏔️

Awesome, thank you! You helped a lot and it will not be forgotten. Stay good and I hope we meet again :)
Wow Tesla, this really touched me! What a journey! Thank you so much for documenting and sharing your story. This is such a great memory of the trail and especially the awesome people on it. I wish Cutie could have seen it.
Thank you Marlene for watching and being a part of my journey and this film. Yes, I wish also Cutie could have seen it.
Excellent documentary! I appreciate the gift of sharing your experiences on this extreme trail. Thank you for this! ❤
Thank you. It means a lot to hear people dig this film of mine.
Amazing! Thank you so much for this! It's probably the most honest video I've ever seen.
Thank you for watching. Being honest is my specialty 😄 I am glad you like it.
I feel like "Why I Hike Part 1" was a reflective, profound meditation on hiking and
"Why I Hike Part 2" is an active experience of Hiking the CDT.
Thank you. So glad you like it.
Thank you for such a beautiful and honest movie.
Thank you for nice words. It means a lot.
Great Documentary Tesla thanks
5th Course
Hey 5th Course, so glad to hear from you. I asked myself what happened with you after that camping in Southern San Juan's. First I thought you went ahead of me, but nobody saw you and then I heard you got injured but that was it.
Yeah, Cutie's passing left us in disbelief, but on the other side - he was living full potential. I am glad I was there to film it all and leave a legacy in form of a story.

Anyone who regularly goes hiking or mountaineering will have felt frustrated at some point for not having finished a route or not having climbed a mountain, but then you realise that what is really important is the experience, the shared moments, feeling the sun after a rainy day, contemplating the beauty of the mountains. The important thing is the way, not the end and not to lose the spark 😊

Thank you so much. I remember taking interviews on the beginning of a trail and everybody was super positive. Nikola... E moj nikola... Tvoji usponi i padovi, tvoja ljutnja i tvoj osmjeh... Ti si mi velika inspiracija i želim ti puno sreće u budućim pustolovinama. Pratim te i pratiti ću te u budućnosti... Hvala ti na ovome. Veliki pozdravi tebi, tvojoj familiji i ostalim hikerima!

Thank you for your comment. You put it well with all of topics you are writing about. I am glad you like the film. Take care and thanks again!

speaking of dead trees be careful as I lost the closet person in my life 14 months ago from a dead tree on a trail. 5 feet from me thru the air came a missile (dead tree) and instant death for my friend. Have to get back on the horse and move forward to honour these people we loved that much

Everything good here. Thanks for your concern and for testifing about real dangers of tree falls. I am glad you are well know. Take care.
Hi Tesla. I got stopped from my ‘22goal by the trail being shut down by the forest service at Grants. But I’ll finish the trail probably by ‘24. Thanks for the help on the slick rock Marmot
I was wondering how did you end your thru hike and where. Good luck with rest of the adventure. I hope we will see each other again on the trail!
Silly
