Y'all know this is just my opinion, right?
Kendrick, Death Grips and Swans are getting 10s like scrubs while King Gizz are getting a 22
Two 7/10 and one 8/10 album in one month is just bananas.
Aré those bananas Microtonal?
yet sadly the time to see them live was the infest tour or before. Now they have SO MANY songs that the chances you hear the ones you want to hear most are quite low for any given randomized set.
@@charlespancamo9771 what do you mean "the ones you want to hear" I want to hear them all!
@@charlespancamo9771 if you like most of gizz's music, they do a great job at giving variety and normally play like an hour and a half set! also if you like ITRN or MOTU a lot, they do a great job at playing super heavy tracks and the chill tracks. i don't know how they do such a great job balancing, but i would recommend ANY fan of music or gizz from any era see them live. truly an experience!
Drake would never
Imagine just casually dropping 3 good albums after each other. Its impressive...
Even crazier: Sault released 5 albums at once this year
Would be crazy if it was true
@@manuelbogner2 so did king gizzard, for the second time
Hot take for this comment section I suppose:
"Good" is very subjective when it comes to this band, they have a certain niche audience but they absolutely aren't what I would call "good." They honestly sound like stoner music and are derivative of hundreds of Aussie bands, there's nothing I've heard from them that I haven't already heard from a million other stoner bands that someone like my deadbeat uncle would get drunk and stand in a corner nodding their heads to, acting like they are the greatest thing in music to them when to everyone else around them it just sounds like you need to get drunk or high to even remotely tolerate on any level, try-hard pseudo-intellectual nonsense.
I don't see them as the second coming of Christ like some in the industry seem to do. They release album after album because they have zero filter, many artists have many songs they write for an album that they have to cut for a myriad of reasons, the difference is King Gizzard writes song after song and just throws them into albums if they have enough to make a "theme" and call it a day. The pace at which they release albums is respective of their quality, a collection of songs strung together that all sound produced in a garage with grating vocalists that are the same as any other bogan artist we have here in Australia. It's Triple J trash trying to disguise itself as high art, there's like 100 other King Gizzard's here you can find, foreigner's might find them to be exotic and great but seriously for me this is just another alt-Aussie band in a sea of many and I will never understand the appeal. There's far more talented bands in Australia that are criminally underrated with more talent under their belt who don't get the recognition they deserve versus a band like this one.
@@johnniewolf133 Music is subjective. Good. Didnt need to write an essay. Nobodz reads that shit.
Can’t believe you scored your first 30/30, well done KGLW👏
It's more 22/30
Is 30/30 in a month better than 2017’s 50/50 in a year?
@@amicuscure8s i mean it is yeah
@@yemmohater2796 nah, the melon just got it wrong. @Jako26 meant that it was the first time Fantano took a shot at scoring a 30/30 (not correctly however).
Laminated Denim is an homage to Made in Timeland, of which Made in Timeland is an anagram of Laminated Denim.
combine them together its basically the hour-long version of Quarters

@@thisbubblygoodness7611 but way better
@@kyles5513 controversial take, but i definitely respect it
@@orbinsolem I think it's better anyways.
Laminated Denim is also my favorite of the 3. Fun fact: there's a gong hit at the 5 minute and 10 minute marks of each song
It's my favorite album too. Both songs are really good and the whole 60bpm with the constant ticking clock, although there is no actual clock in the recording is brilliant.
another fun fact - the bpm is exactly 60
@@henryohse1 ya, 60bpm, which is 1bps, hence the ticking clock. Smart.
@@kyles5513 indeed. real cool stuff i think. i did not see your comment prior to makin mine lol needed my coffee
@@henryohse1 the bpm of the two songs are 180 and 150 (I forget which is which) and neither are 60bpm
Made in timeland had the tracks going at 60bpm (or double timed at 120) to the best of the clock... These songs off laminated denim are not to the beat of the clock and the clock acts as a polyrhythm to the actual tempo and beat of the songs which are in 150bpm and 180bpm, and the clock itself is represented by the timpani and a tamb at some points but it's barely audible through most of the main parts
But yea just wanted to clarify niether of these songs are in 60bpm or 120
7+8+7=22
Wow can't believe Anthony is giving his first 22/10 review. Truly an incredible feat for King Gizz!
@Sumafetto uhmmm no?? he scores things out of 10 so its 22/10

You mention feeling like Magma could have been a bit more hard-hitting. Apparently the band felt that way too, because the live version is an absolute MONSTER of a heavy song. The KEXP version is a great presentation of this energy. The first time I heard it I had assumed there was a crowd involved, because how ELSE could a band manage to sustain such ferocity for such a long time without an audience to throw energy right back?
1000% this. Magma after KEXP recording might be my favorite piece of recorded music.. ever.
Dude, you read my mind. I was lucky enough to catch the band live between the release of Ice Death Planets and Laminated Denim, and Magma was the first gizztober song they played. Probably the best few minutes of the whole show, and got me to appreciate the track more in hindsight.
I will also say that this track probably contains my favorite guitar solo of Stu's, which is saying a lot. I get big Carlos Santana vibes from it
The band’s a crowd in themselves, so maybe that plays a part, which is really rad
They fucking killed it with magma at the gorge this year.
"Gizztober" sounds absolutely insane
Jizztober would’ve been better

@@thisbubblygoodness7611 Kev just said "let's play one I wrote 5 years ago" and KG ran out of the building.
@@thisbubblygoodness7611 sounds like a pointless collaboration, what could Kevin Parker bring to the table the other gizz boys don't already provide.
@@Bevtone I wouldn't know what their collab would sound like, but i'd assume Kev would bring his own talents like his voice and use of the synths to the group, KG knows how to do repeating, melodic synths like Butterfly 3000 but I wouldn't mind hearing their blended take on that Currents electronic genre
@@thisbubblygoodness7611 would that be Wild Implala...?

big fan of the multiple album reviews in one video strategy, maybe you'll finally be able to cover every record ever 🙏
23 albums in 10 years and still putting out their best work I love these guys !
And I thought The Beatles were that ethic! wow
After a month of listening, Changes is actually the album I've been coming back to most consistently out of the three. Most of it's tracks are real earworms that demand to be put back onto the stereo within a day or two.
Agreed. Change is in my top 10 Gizz songs of all time.
i like ambrose's weird unhinged rap verse😂
it’s funny how fantano naturally derives the feelings of the different modes used in each song. Mycelium (Ionian) sounding like a kids cartoon, Ice V (Dorian) sounds dark and funky, Magma (Phrygian) is mystical, and best of all is the fact he couldn’t get into the melodies of Gliese 710 (Locrian) which is the most difficult mode to write / play for
To me Change is one of the best tracks they made really. Highlights of the Gizztober alongside Iron Lung
Changes is my favorite album they’ve ever done, they’re the best
Gandi lyrics are insane-o
Of the 3, it's the one I made a point to get on vinyl. I get not digging the Gizz rap thing (It was a bit tiresome on Omnium for me), but the melody right after it grooves so hard that I don't think it be as impactful without the little rapping section right before setting it up.
@@bambogini I LUST FOR VOLCANO
It's my keast fave they've made yet. That's why they're the best. So much room for debate and variation amongst fans
@@yungrobot totally agree
happy that you gave king gizzard a 22/10
Don't know the first thing about Arca or King Gizz, but these multi-album reviews make for fascinating watches. Really like the way you talk about multiple releases without having to contextualize them within a ranking.
Not sure what kind of music you’re into, but you should check out both artists, and at least get to know something about them! They’re both very different, though I think the descriptions, “psychedelic” and “experimental”, both fit both artists, with Arca’s music being much more rooted in electronic music, specifically modern bass/club (also definitely ambient), and KGLW’s music being rooted in rock’n’roll, specifically the psychedelic rock/pop and jam band world that started in the late 60s/early 70s (though krautrock, metal/hard rock, and basically anything else they want to throw in, are also present). ✌️
@@nikolademitri731 Both are on my to-do list (especially as KG is one of my brother's favorite bands). It takes me a long time to branch out to new artists-- e.g. I just started listening to Charli XCX within the past month or two.
damn, i personally LOVE gliese 710 and feel it’s by long and far the most badass jam on the album. have revisited it dozens of times since the album dropped
AGREED, Im actually kinda shocked Antony wasn’t big on it. The lyrics have me in awe. So grand.
i guess its not a super climactic finish, and being in locrian is gonna make it hard for everyone to enjoy
SAME probably not my favorite track but it's definitely up there as one of the best.
fav track
Anyone that has an understanding of the 7 modes knows Locrian is easily the hardest mode to make a tune out of, so I can see why people don’t find it all that satisfying. The mode itself it set up to be consistently dissonant, so it’s hard to nail a melody that sticks well. Props to Gizz for even managing it honestly!
I got to see them play Hypertension live for the first time and I think they really got something special there. It's an insane jam.
They opened with Hypertension when I saw them. Absolutely mind-blowing as an opener.
That's awesome. Where was that?
@@ruvalca2 DC
Hoped they play hypertension in philly. Fantastic song. but i got all the altered beasts/alter mes with the female readings from leah senior, evil death roll, organ farmer and mars for the rich so ill take it lol
They were supposed to play it the final night in Red Rocks, but they had to cut it because they did Her And I for 23 minutes 😂
I'm so glad to see you gave all 3 albums a 10/10
Yeah I’m gonna need a drink after this review
TBE
Finally they release an album.. I’ve been waiting forever
After several listens Astroturf was a surprising track that stood out to me as my favourite of the album. The flute solo followed with a Drum solo into a Bass solo was just so damn good. I got a lot of King Crimson vibes from Nobody and actually love it. Gondii distills the best tune imo from Change and runs with it literally. Exploding Suns reminds me of Oddments from KGLW and is a very chill rainy day song. Short Change is a shorter version of Change and does a good job providing a conclusion and an immediate repeat all of the album. October 2022 has been one for the ages for Gizzheads.
Same happened with me. Didn't like astrotuf a lot but then I heard the ending and I just understood the track from that point
Astroturf was boring me for the first half but as soon as Stu rolled the flute out I was hooked. The second half of the song redeemed the hell out of the first half, and once I understood where it was building I was able to appreciate the first half much more
Where’s da Quadeca review?
the mushrooms album was my favourite by far, I always love an album that keeps a consistent musical atmosphere and lyrical world. Groovy and swanky all around but still 3 amazing releases and happy with all of them!
787 is the highest score you’ve ever given Anthony!
We need Quadecker now
Bro if he gives it under a 9 we have to riot. An 8 is just not enough I don't care. I literally can't pick the worst song, every single one of them is amazing.
My own personal ranking would definitely be:
1.) ice death
2.) laminated denim
3.) changes
(Loved all 3, however ice death is easily my favorite Gizz record of the 2020’s so far.)
Quadeca when??
What a great month! I enjoyed Ice Death .. the most, but I'm glad to see you enjoyed Laminated Denim as well! I was hoping we could get an opinion on LD's sister album Timeland which finally came to streaming services the same day laminated denim dropped. I also thought some cool context to have for these 2 albums is that they were made to be played during downtime between the bands 3hr marathon sets. The ticking clock/time motif is a lot stronger on Timeland imo.
King gizzard continue to defy expectations by dropping another 3 great albums in a short span. I love that this band tries something new every single album and it just works. They might be the most consistent band in terms of quality this decade and certainly in some time. They are proof that rock is not dead, its just not mainstream anymore. Rock on gizz boys!
John Dwyer: Am I joke to you?
Change is my favorite song from Changes and the jazzy rap section is my favorite part 😅
This is cool but it’s not the I Didn’t Mean to Haunt You review
Ice Death (long ass title) is my personal favourite hands down, but the other two also add quite a bit to the King Gizzard discography.
I also expected you to talk about Timeland since it was recently added on spotify, but oh well.
I wouldn't call it "Gizztober" in case there are people that pronounce gif as "jif" watching this.
Now quadeca time?
Heads up melon, Gizz just announced they're dropping 7 more albums next week, just thought you should know
I agree with you about the vocals on magma. But holy cow the live version at red rocks was insane! Stus vocals escalate wonderfully
YES
This is such a review Anthony. Subscribed.

9/10 hope he reviews soon
This is not Quadeca
My favorite part was of the video was when Anthony said "it's gizzin time" and gizzed all over the place
My favorite part out of all 3 records was when Stu said 'Yo soy el King Gizzard' and then Ambrose starts to play the SpongeBob credits outro for 20 minutes straight
¡Que bueno!

Where’s Quadeca Melon????
you have to see them live! such an experience that really brings the whole gizzverse together
Anthony's hatred of Gliese 710 even seeped into his rating for the album! Gliese 7/10
What Fantano didn't like about Mycelium is what I do like about Mycelium
I agree with the majority of the review but saying that Changes is the least cohesive of the 3 is borderline psychotic
It's rare that a band releases 3 album's in the same month, and even more rare that all 3 album's turn out to be brilliant.
I'm always amazed at how King Gizzard can churn out albums by the dozen and have them not suck.
Gizztober was nuts, I had these albums ranked a bit higher than you but I liked your breakdown, I might just be too lost down the gizzhole. Unrelated to the albums themselves but after catching them live twice this month I think the jams in Ice Death are really elevated during their live shows / marathons. They really allow the band to seamlessly transition from their heavier metal songs or chill jams and vice versa when incorporated into their insane live performances. Been waiting for your take on these albums for a while and glad to finally watch
give Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava an 8 coward
I was shocked the first time I heard laminated denim, I was expecting synths and drum machines like the ones made in Timeland, but when the guitars started playing I was blown away. Probably the best first listen of his entire discography
Land before timeland is a consistent bop
Changes is sooo good! It has such a simple yet complex nature to it, so freaking cool.
Bro please just review quadeca's new album😭😭😭
That's 50 loved albums this year, you're officially not allowed to give anything an 8 or above for the rest of the year
He still hasn't reviewed the new Quadeca or the new Nas album.
I just wanna say how proud I am of everyone else asking for quadeca 2 minutes into the upload lol
Right there with you!
King Gizz: "Oh shit he's about to review the last album quick put out the next one!"
If magma didn't hit you specially, you should try checking the version they did at KEXP recently. A much stronger and tense version.
Absolutely. Saw them play magma in st paul this tour and my god did it hit hard! They give it so much more energy live.
I think magma, ice v and iron lung are tge stongest tracks on the first one, laminated denim is dopeeee, lots of details and connected to made in timeland, and for the 3rd changes, hate dancin, no body and exploding suns are the strongest tracks, I’m absolutely obsessed with no body, I learned the intro solo by ear today
Time to make another video ranking the 5 ALBUMS they released this year. OR maybe talking about KG's consistency overall?
I've given King Gizzard about 30 chances and it has never clicked, until I listened to Laminated Denim. It's amazing that a 2 song, 30 minute album could do the trick. I gave Ice Death... another try and I also really like its cohesiveness.
I think of all three, LD might be my favorite, but goddamn if Changes isn’t an amazing record. It would’ve been even if they’d dropped it back in 2017, but I’m very glad they took their time with it, because it’s such a solid dance album. Especially with Astroturf!!!
quadeca next sir melon
The lyrics on Magma are absolutely amazing. I'm blown away by how productive and consistent all of the lads are. Their collective work ethic and the standard of quality they put out over a vast array of genres and instruments is pretty unique
They’re my favorite band for a reason. They never disappoint me😅
Saw them live last month and what they played from Ice Death Planets blew my mind
WHEN IS QUAFEKE REVIEW
Where the Quadeca I Didn’t Mean To Haunt You album reaction
Yo where tf is idmthy
I loved Changes in particular a ton but really enjoyed each album :)
The songs off Ice Death planets, etc have absolutely fucking slapped live- King Gizz went full jam band
0:33 - Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava
5:30 - Laminated Denim
7:50 - Changes
I think Gondii and Astroturf are the freshest Gizz songs in a long time. Maybe since even Fishies. Or Butterfly. Ok maybe a few cuts from OG like Kepler or Ambergris.
Loved laminated denim and ice death but not a huge fan of changes. Absolutely loved the KEXP live session as well.
This past October has probably been the best of my life solely because of gizztober
I would also love to hear your thoughts on Made in Timeland. It was another 2 song, 30 minute album and it had some lovely ideas
Are you gonna review "I didn't mean to haunt you" -Quadeca :)
finally got around to checking out Changes today and was wondering when you would be covering Gizztober, impeccable timing
Gizztober followed by No Nut November was always the plan
Changes is my favourite of the 3, strong 8 for me. Other than that this may be the first melon gizz review I agree with
HELL YES, a deserved score for laminated denim, very happy u finally reviewed it
The life death mushrooms lava one hahaha idk a lot of words. Was my favorite of the three. Really cool how epic and dark but psychedelic they got. Really kept me along throughout the whole album. More so than changes. The first track stopped me once they started rapping hahaha. Definitely gonna push thru and enjoy the whole thing on another listen tho
The first album about the mushrooms was my favourite of the 3, Iron Lung is such a good song
In case anyone was looking for the formula for determining the actual rating on any given King Kizzard album, it is: (Reality = Melon Rating +1)
Iron Lung is one of my favorite Gizz songs already, that one is insane. Ice V is also up there tbh. The other two while good dont stick with me but IDPLML is soo good.
“Kinda sounds like tame impala if the impala wasn’t so tame” 😂😂
Ice Death 9/10
Made in Timeland 8/10
Changes 7/10
All good stuff, but Ice Death is my favourite Gizz of the past few years since Fishies and Rat's Nest, I really fucking love this album. Hopefully I'll get to see it live sometime.
I really started getting in Kglw when these came out so I was excited. IDPLM&L was probably my overall fav but I loved Changes. Haven’t really check out Laminated Denim tho, definitely will get on that
I listened to Laminated Denim at 4am on a rainy, foggy drive down to a beach vacation and it’s now a core memory.
I really enjoyed Changes, so relaxing. It's also a nice contrast against the other two jammy releases.
Saw them live in Toronto a few weeks back! Absolutely incredible show!
Ice, Death, Planets… has grown to be one of my favorite Gizz albums. definitely in my top 23
Would love to see you cover Made In Timeland in a WYUNO review, same concept at Laminated Denim with two 15 minute tracks, except it's basically a Gizz take on EDM
They have already alluded to albums 24 & 25
Gliese 710 is one of my favorite songs
Cool to see you gave quadeca's new album three reviews in one video
I'll never forgive Anthony for Gizzing in the middle of NNN. For shame.
