yo love the vids but you gotta put a #ad on this shit ur talking about my favorite album ever and all of a sudden ur spewing nonsense about some bullshit news source. the ad should not be included in the chapter for petro.
Was that lcd soundsystem reference intentional? :)
@@andrewray5300 the ad pays for him to make these videos so i support it. Plus ground news is legit. Its not a news source like that but instead gets news sources from across platforms and presents then to you so you can see the different ways its framed by different media outlets. I use the free version myself (dont care enough to buy the full one but its good for alot).
But yeah i dont like ads but he had a good segue into it and again it pays the bills and allows him to make more vids
I pray nothing bad ever happens to anyone in this band so that one day they have a Zappa-tier discography
Buckethead output/Zappa quality
They already have tho :D

We gotta take a second to recognize just how INSANE the Aussie rock scene is right now. Punk, Pub Rock, Psych, and Indie Singer Songwriters from there are making the US scene look silly
Don’t forget hardcore with bands like speed
We also have a bunch of metal bands making waves around the world. Polaris, Northlane, Alpha Wolf ect.
No it doesn’t 😂, we aren’t even close to the American scene lol
The Psych scene is all Tame Impala wannabes but without the musicianship and songwriting talent of Parker, and incredibly more derivative of 1967-1970.
@@Tityretupatulae 100% some great bands from here but the rest just try and copy them, there’s incredibly little originality here
The “Losing My Edge” lyric reference was so well weaved in there. Thank you Mr. Middle 8.
😉
When he said they sold their guitars I took him seriously for about a quarter of a second
I was there!
If I remember correctly they played like 5 concerts at Primavera Sound 2022 in Barcelona (weekend1, weekend 2 and in between those weekends) and they didn't repeat a single song at those 5 concerts. I only saw one of those five concerts and they were amazing!
I remember trying to get into the mid week gigs. Queues down the streets for hours before the doors opened. Had to leave it off and only see them @ primavera. Luckily got to see them a few times this year to make up for it.
Yeah, they did that!
The did the same in Oz. I couldn't get tix, though :(
If you like that stat, Phish did it 13 nights in a row in 2017
You're the reason I found what would become my favorite band, and I've never looked back. King Gizzard has opened a world creatively and artistically that I have come to embrace. I can never thank you enough, man.

I'm 53 years old. i'm an amateur DJ and Producer, and been into wide and eclectic styles of music for decades.King Gizz are the greatest band i've known in my lifetime. i see them in Edinburgh for the 4th time next May. Wooo
Same for me, too! Middle 8’s first video on King Gizz is what got me into the band in the first place. Thank you so much, Middle Ocho!
The absolutely potent national pride I have for these bois, I cannot emphasise enough. The sheer technical skill, the consistency, the humility, the work ethic. They could put out 5 flops in a row and we'd forgive them because we know they'd put out a further 15 bangers to compensate. Nothing compares to them.
Most national pride is ignorant to me, but yours for this wonderful band is sheer purity. ❤
Coming from a Brit, feels like Australia is having a golden age of music right now. You guys have so many good bands.
@@Panjaxtame Impala clones without the musicianship and songwriting
@@Tityretupatulaelmao, you wish. They don’t sound remotely similar, and they’re both great musicians and writers.
@@scottishcheese13great writers is incorrect. Wont disregard their chops but they market themselves as these workhorses when really they just never edit anything and release everything including the garbage
As a huge Gizz fan, it’s amazing to see a video like this that hopefully appeals to a wider demographic.
The thing I love about the band is every fan favours a different album, for different reasons. Supposedly the band uses spreadsheets to differ every performance from each other.
Enjoy their music for what it means to you and pass it on to others as and when.
There’s honestly no other group like them, and I hope they bring each and every one of you as much joy and excitement as me.
Absolute appreciation of their journey and the awesome music they have shared with us 🤩

I recently got into them and my god, I have fallen DEEP down the rabbit hole. So much so that they're on repeat and I convinced myself to get tickets for their state side show next year!

@@Theomite I saw them at the last minute in Chicago June 12 at Salt Shed. They opened the show with Rattlesnake/Honey.
The next day it was on youtube. So I watched it. And then I played it two or three or four more times that day. And the next day. And at least once a day since that first day six months ago.
I went back the next night when they open the show with Gila monster LOLOL!
Everyday the first song I listen to, when I play King Gizzard, which is all I listen to now, is Gila Monster.

King Gizz is one of the greatest bands of recent years. Their creativity and dedication to their craft is unmatched in music currently.
Oh my god this editing / overall video production is insane. Well done I can't imagine how much work went into this.
Perhaps the most underrated band in the last 20 years. There’s something for everyone with King Gizzard.
At this stage, not underrated. They doing well and have a pretty big fan base
@@kpman644true but if you go up and ask some random person on the street about them it‘s very likely that they don‘t know them. tho that‘s probably because rock bands in general are less in demand than they were. for a „rock band“ they‘re definitely doing well!

Laminated Denim is my new favorite KGLW album. It was overwhelmingly my most listened to album this year.
Yeah honestly, I think LD and BF3K are probably their best albums since 2017.
Hypertension is one of their best jams
@@Middle8 Absolutely! Have you heard the version from the Chicago 2023 live album?
@@Middle8 Didn't care for it much at first, but then i saw them at Way out west earlier this year, and when they played it live something just CLICKED
Spotify highlighted to me that I listen to it 50 times this year. Album of the year for me! I'm probably in the minority when I say I like Land Before Timeland more than Hypertension, but I love both.
Your first King Gizz video is the reason I've been watching you for the past 5-6 years and this follow up video has been a long time coming. I had just discovered them for myself not that long prior to finding your video and it kept me coming back. You do excellent work, keep it up.
I absolutely loved this video! I think you nailed the vibe in each video very well. This very quickly became my favorite band when I discovered them back in early 2017.
Found your old KGLW video around Feb this year, and starting from May to Oct, I've gotten through their whole discography
Seeing this vid really feels like a full circle, and a great way to close this year full of a new favourite band
Thank you!
Your video from 2017 introduced me to King Gizzard and I'm superthankful for that! Since then they became my favorite active band that I can still enjoy in their prime. So thank you very much! Awesome guys, amazing music!

Honestly this is one of the best video I’ve seen in a minute. I’ve been loving KGLW for around 3-4 years now and I learned so much I’ve never heard about before. The way you made everything so engaging and we’re able to draw me in was great. We’ll done good sir!
Yesss I was so excited for this vid, very well presented and the best researched king gizz video I've seen in a long time!
These guys have slowly became my favorite rock band in a long time, their music sounded a little weird at first but I grew to absolutely love their style and how carefree they are, when I see live sets of these boys they look like they're genuinely having fun and I am all for that.
One of the things i like about King Gizz is that you can be a metal head listening to Infest the Rat's Nest and then wait a few years for PetroDragonic Apocalypse and it's just like a normal wait time you'd have for any other band between releases, even though they're continually releasing other stuff in between.
Greetings from Argentina! I just wanted to drop a big thank you for you impecable work whit editting, scripting and how you have mannaged to encourage me to listen to new and super interesting music quite often.
Lots of love and keep it up Mr. 8
I've been utterly hooked on these guys since your first video on them, thanks for putting us on to something great! (also your vids are awesome)
the "born, if you could call it that" reference when talking about Made in Timeland is brilliant... ;)
your first video of them introduced me to them, im glad i kept up with them ever since that video. They're a phenomenal band
This is the definitive best video to introduce people to kglw. Everything is explained so well and I’ve even learnt stuff I didn’t know as a 3 year kglw fan
Hey congrats on the 100th youtube video! Been watching for about a quarter of that.
Heres to many more great videos
my fav band by far, huge fan, ty for video! Love the Tezeta demo background, great choice lol. Also great script to this video, good consideration of each album!
Thank you for making an update video on King Gizz. I love you 🤟
Ever since I first heard about King Gizz through your first video, I have been in love with them, they keep their listeners on their toes, they manage to go to different places without alienating their listeners. They are truly a once in a lifetime band and are more like an experience than simply music you put on.
I've been a fan of King Gizz since I saw their Glasto 2017 live footage, but hadn't delved much deeper until quite recently, this video is a brilliant breakdown of their discography and really highlighted their amazing talent, brilliant stuff!
I watched your "Intro to King Gizzard..." video a while back and was definitely interested, but never gave them a shot.
But last night that ended when I listened to all of Nonagon. My life is forever changed.
I'd heard of this band before but never really knew anything about them. This video convinced me to check them out. Thanks! Gonna go listen to Infest the Rats' Nest 🤘
I love your take on Gumboot Soup, it really goes unnoticed and is really underrated!
I salute your thoroughness and dedication to these videos. As a KGLW fan, I had no idea about most of the cross references you uncover, truly enthralling, thank you.
I already know all this but I loved watching anyway 😂 It was your original video on the band back in 2017 that made me dive into them originally, and I’ve been deep into the cult ever since!
See y’all in Toronto, Detroit and Chicago next year!
That's a really cool insight into the band. I didn't know they sold their gear for the Silver Cord album. Cool video.
12:47 Love Changes so much, I think that record is somehow pretty underappreciated in the long run because of the more laid back and mellower vibe of the music seem to turn off others' attention to the music. But for me, giving the record the chance to grow is a very rewarding experience.
The lengthy eponymous track from the album would become one of my favorites from the band's entire discography and yes, it's somehow too long and dragging for some but I don't personally think every moment is wasted there.
It probably makes sense if you have prior experiences with specific genres or styles, particularly the now-obscure subgenre of prog Canterbury Scene because imo it's quite reminiscent of the genre for many reasons.
Totally agree.
Agreed! I often find KGLW albums don't immedietely jump out at me and Changes was no different but I like to play their new albums in the background while I'm working and Changes quickly grew on me, to the point it's up there with my favourite albums and contains two of my all-time favourite tracks No Body and Exploding Suns.
I found about your channel for the first video you made about King Gizz, and I think the first video of the channel (not sure). So this does feel special. Great band. I hope they stay together for a very long time and I'm around to listen.
This band has meant so much to me since I first heard them in 2017 and helped power me through the dreadful times of the pandemic. I was lucky enough to see them in 2022 for the first time and they were unbelievably amazing, and I already have tickets to see them again next summer. I love this band endlessly and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone just hearing about them for the first time in this video!
I really appreciate bands that are willing to follow whatever muse happens to tickle their fancy at any given time. One of my favorite projects is Controlled Bleeding, who did everything from pure noise mayhem to electronic dub to dancefloor industrial to goth. The unwillingness to sit still is very appealing.
I haven't heard a lot of King Gizzard yet, but I am also reminded of the Finnish band Circle, who have some variety in their prolific output as well.
Brilliant. Thanks for this, sending to all my friends and family
Damn
For me personally PetroDragonic apocalypse is absolutely my favourite album of 2023. It just combines a lot of the music I love in general into one amazing album.
It is a great album, love them foraying into metal
At first I read that as, your favorite KGLW album in 2023.
That album is in my top 3 of all time. They are legitimately on TOOL's level without taking themselves seriously, resurrecting a style of metal that was mostly dead since the 70s/80s, effortlessly being +40min about pollution and Godzilla, having absurdly rich lyrics, bringing fresh new polyrhythms in 2023, and that spice it has from Yes - Fragile. Let alone the fantastic writing, production and quality.
It wasn't just the kglw that grew and improved, but middle8 too, the video edit is really good!
Your editing is spectacular 👌
Ive heard of them but couldnt really get into them because i was overwhelmed with so much music but the snippets of butterfly 3000 that you put in the video made me like that one
Before I watch the rest of the video: Thank you SO much for that small section at the start of 'Here are their most well-received albums that you should check out' because it makes it really easy for me to just go dive into those!!! Very valuable!
10:32 omg thank you for this. Such an incredible track. I had NO IDEA they dove into hip-hop territory 😵💫💯

I've recently found the KONGOS and am a tad obsessed. Egomaniac is amazing. I'd love to see you talk about them.
I also hope you're doing well, it's be awhile since we've seen an upload.
Well done on this video! And what an interesting band.

Love that you explained all the albums that I have in my record collection. You rule dude!

Huge missed opportunity at 1:10 - everyone knows that nonagon infinity opens the door
Excellent video! thank you, Middle 8. You're the bee's knees!
DISCOVERED KGLW IN 2022 AND HAVE NEVER STOPPED LISTENING TO THEM LESSSSS GOOOOOOOOOOO
Absolutely fantastic video
As far as newer bands within the last decade King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are top tier for me. One of the best things about them is even if there's a newer album you're not super fond of, the wait for the next album is usually not that far away. No idea what the new direction will be but I'm sure whatever 2024 brings will be fantastic.
your nonagon infinity video got me to check them out back in 2020, fast forward to now and they are favorite band by far.
The best music video essayist on UA-cam ever. You just keep on delivering Middle8
i think one of the best aspects of this band is how theres always a subject at hand (for example petros story) and not just selfless lyrics, gizz has a cool way of immersing you into their work
The narrative albums are a huge factor into why I'm such a huge fan.
me too! nonagon opened the door, now i cant get enough@@ahealthkit2745
great video !!! long live KG!!!!
Without you I wouldn't ever have found king gizzard. Thank you❤❤❤
Silver Cord is my favorite album from them so far (looks very intimidating the sheer amount of albums they put on so i checked random songs from his discography).
Im curious to hear them explore the "cumbia electrónica" style and what it represents, any other trad folk music across the world each representing one or many times a whole new perspective to perceive the world around us, leaning a little bit more into solarpunk movement, or anything else they feel should be cool the try out.
Massive respect for them!! Also thank you for this summary is really handy to guide more friend into his amazing artsists!
you'll probably never see this but, man you are a god of editing - I see the endless practice, amelioration and inspiration behind every video. you're such an inspiration keep going 💖💖
you were the one who got me into KG, and they are my favorite band nowadays!
thank you so much
dam i knew some of the King gizzard tracks but ur video made me want to take a deep dive in all of their records !! thanks a lot :)
Joey gyrating on the beach as the outro is just perfect
Great video well done sir
Funny how this pops up on my recommendations and starts with talking about Gumboot Soup. Only last night has this album clicked all of a sudden after the song Beginner's Luck randomly played in my head despite only hearing it a few times.
I knew about the band for a few years but didn't catch onto them until back in June when I heard about PetroDragonic Apocalypse being a progressive thrash metal album. That had me checking it out. Now, I've listened to all their albums with most of them being played many times and have quickly become one of my all-time favourite bands.
I'll always be welcoming any new King Gizzard releases but what I would like to see in the near future is how they would do with a full hip hop album (already a few hip hop songs so why not an album) or another take on metal to see where they go after PetroDragonic Apocalypse.
I’d love King Gizz to do a Trip Hop album. I think it would definitely be interesting after hearing the Silver Chord
I saw them earlier this year and they definitely hit a trip hop kinda vibe with some of the extended jams - I got a vid of most of it (On my channel or search - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard - Kepler 22b extended outro jam with synth)
Absolutely! That'd be super interesting, and I'm sure I'd like it. I'm less into their metal sound and more into their slightly softer side, while I don't like their "too soft" style of Butterfly 3000.
Oh that'd be sick
I found Gumboot Soup in my local record store and it’s an orange and black colored version. I had never heard of that specific album before but I love it!
I think I have the same copy, pressed on ATO? Looks and sounds excellent!
Thank you so much for making a part 2. I’ve been waiting so long. Your first video and the Nonagon infinity video put me on to King Gizzard and now they are literally one of my favorite bands of all time, and they got in my top 5 for Spotify wrapped this year. Again thank you
I think it would be really interesting if King Gizzard explored a more country/bluegrass sound. Fishing for Fishies is one of my favorite albums by them and kinda dips a toe in that direction. Plus, Paper Mache Dream Balloon shows they can pull off an all acoustic album.
P.S.-I really enjoyed both your videos on King Gizzard. I'm pretty sure your first one was my intro to them that inspired me to check out their music.
Been preaching the good word about this band for years to anyone that would listen. Truly prolific with so many flavors to enjoy.
Very well done, great work!
Yes! More people should know about this band!
GIZZHEADS RISE UP
I just found “bootleg gizzard” on Apple Music. All the demo albums and so much live stuff. I’m obsessed
I can tell you genuinely love this band (me too lol) and have put so much effort and care into this video. I honestly loved it.
Near the start you missed out on saying mind fuzz, polygondwanaland, and NONAGON INFINITY will open the door for you. Love the video mate thanks for covering our Gizzy boys so well
Discovered the band around 8 months ago and I CANNOT STOP LISTENING
I’ve been a fan of them since Nonagon Infinity and it’s just been so gratifying being a fan of the band over the years. That 2022 October run and Petrodragonic Apocalypse have been some of my absolute favorite albums from them and it’s just so great that they’re still outputting music at such a high level of quality after already having so much music behind them.
What a nice video, very well done!
I love this convo because of the wildly different genres they've tapped but here's my top 5 Gizz albums if anyone gives a shit:
1. Flying Microtonal Banana
2. Butterfly 3000
3. Omnium Gatherum
4. PetroDragonic Apocalypse
5. I'm In Your Mind Fuzz
Nice. Mine are:
1. Polygondwanaland
2. Infest The Rat's Nest
3. Nonagon Infinity
4. I'm In Your Mind Fuzz
5. Paper Mache Dream Balloon
Special Mention to PetroDragonic Apocalypse, Flying Microtonal Banana, Murder of The Universe and Butterfly 3000.
@@GRMNCVS Right on. Can't go wrong here!
Nice selection! I can’t choose 5. So I choose all of their albums. 🤘
I have never heard of The King Gizzard before. Thank you for this.
its interesting, this band was my favorite thing on this earth pretty much until 2020. I mean for God's sake, I even got the sun from the polygondwanaland tattooed on my arm at 19 years old. Butterfly 3000 was their last thing of theirs that really moved me, and my musical interests since then have diverged pretty far from what they're doing. Even still I have a lot of respect for them because of how much they've influenced my journey through listening to and playing music. There's things I never would've found without their Whats In My Bag episode, for instance. Hell, now that I think about it, the very first video I watched on this channel was about king gizzard's 2017 album streak because I had just found them and I was ravenous for any and all content I could possibly find on them.
I think it'd be interesting to see their take on hardcore punk and surrounding genres like powerviolence, grindcore, cybergrind, metallic hardcore, metalcore. I'm sure they could find interesting ways to inject their psychedelic roots into that, and it isnt like other bands like Acrylics haven't combined hardcore punk with psych before.
I think it'd be a great avenue for them to make the same social commentaries they've had all along come through in a more direct, straightforward way. Metal, to me, for all its aggression on the surface, actually lends itself more to the expression of pain and suffering rather than action, assertion, and anger. Punk on the other hand has always lended itself towards assertion of one's self, even before it became overtly political as a genre.
KGWL has become my most listened to group. Amazing.
Looking ahead, I would love to hear their approach to jazz - perhaps Bebop, Hard Bop, or Post Bop. Second on my wish list would be country/folk psych... with emphasis on the psych.
Its a great feeling to see another kglw from you because i found your channel thanks to your first vid about them
Great video! Only noticed that at 14:52 the song is motor spirit, not dragon.
great video! well put together and visually pleasing
i had a laugh at 15:53 😂
This deserves WAY more views. This is the definitive guide to Gizz in my view.
After being lucky enough to see them 5 times back in June, including the Red Rocks shows, I can honestly say Gizz is one of the absolute best bands on the planet right now. My hubby and I have tickets for 3 cities next year…so far….
And since no one ask, my top 5:
1) 12bb
2) Nonagon
3) Infest
4) Mind Fuzz
5) Poly
These do move around, except #1
