Hi my name is Lilly and I am an American expat living on the island of Koh Samui in the gulf of Thailand for the last 9 years. My husband is Thai and his name is Wat. We have two boys named Luke and Leon and a new baby girl named Lyla. Nam is our Nanny and she is like family to us. She is from Myanmar and has worked for us for over 7 years.
I’m the breadwinner too, wake up early. Thai husband sleeps in til 9:30-9:45. He is kind, and a good father with our son. Not a heavy drinker nor gambler. I know I can’t have it all, and am grateful.
Yeap Thaï (or Madagascar or Mayoote) 's local men consider European or US wifes to be their " grain of rice " (meal ticket ) ... if THAT SUITS YOU, well ... let it be...

Wat seems to be suffering from Clinical Depression. I can tell because I suffer from it.😔...some days are harder than others.
I am soon to be 66 years old and at age 44 became a widow when my 49 year old husband died suddenly from a heart attack. Our 15 year marriage was not perfect, but I can tell you even during the lowest points my life was much better when my husband was sharing it with me even during the times when I was the solo bread winner and my husband got laid off several times from his job which he too felt lack of purpose when not gainfully employed. As a now retired R.N. who worked with many depressed patients, a red flag for evolving clinical depression is excessive sleeping, lack of purpose, and loss of interest in activities that at one time were enjoyable. If you think depression may be an issue with your husband get him the appropriate help before it worsens and is much harder to treat.

What about if your husband has all of those symptoms, but doesn't want to get help? Oh and throw in an addiction to oxycodone! What's a wife to do? I do pray for him and the situation.
My son is suffering for depression for years and we didn't know, now we have a therapist and meds, he's so different than before, but still working on it.(my English is not good) God bless you all
@@karencarter3312 it is one of the hardest things. You must look after yourself firstly… and try and be informed. Learn how to take care of yourself and understand your reactions to it. It does help but doesn’t heal

Im sure losing his dad still affects him, too. Losing my dad may me reevaluate a lot of things, i.e., purpose. It speaks volumes to your relationship that you notice when he's off and help/support him to get him through. Wish you guys much success on reopening.

I noticed too over the last while that Wat was sleeping too much and seemed a bit off. Getting his groove back by re-opening the restaurant is a great idea and should as you mentioned Lilly, give him purpose. Wat is a great family man and is clearly devoted to the children. Cheers.
When Wat settled into Bangkok and made friends he was happy, he gained weight and looked healthier, ever since you’ve come back from the trip with your ( mom and dad) he’s lost the weight and he never smiles. I think he misses having fun with his friends too. I hope he finds his happiness.

It’s kind of a blessing Wat has felt different or “off” while not working, means he has the desire to want more. He will feel so much better when the restaurant opens, you’ll see! Just do a slow open with a small menu…baby steps. We are all rooting for you.

Yes - well said. Be real and genuine - struggles and all. I used to think I had to be ‘winning’ in order to show Christ to people. …but I’ve learned that sharing struggles, hardships and tough times with honesty whilst focusing on the Lord to get me through was more powerful than any ‘perfect life’ I could try to live. Keep being authentic and share each other’s burdens.
It does seem that Wat is struggling and there are so many legitimate reasons for it. He’s lost his dad, his work, his life as he knew it, his life has changed with a new baby and your new work and calling. He’s lost some of his roles and had to pick up others…Change- even change for the good can be a stressor that can contribute to feeling down.
Keep encouraging him - letting him know you’re in his corner. Keep respecting him for the good man that he is. Respect is so implant all the more needed when we feel we aren’t doing or being what we were previously.
Keep fighting the good fight and remember that we don’t fight against flesh and blood but against the evil powers that threaten us (physically, mentally, spiritually) Ephesians 6:12

"Purpose" Hard to teach an illiterate in their own language new tricks or to function in business when they can't read or write their own language let alone yours, but What can rest easy Lily will be there to bailout him out like the federal reserve. The kid will outgrow him mentally about age 10 but I think that kid will be great and find a very good place in Thailand as a very liked and celebrated kid! Eventually he may be embarrassed by his Father's lack of social acceptance here

My Dad was so mean to my mother and he searched for reasons to beat me because I would try to protect my mom. It was hell! Watt is a wonderful father and husband. He doesn’t say much but he married a woman who loves to talk so he must be a good listener too! I’m glad you talk a lot Lilly because you glorify the Lord!
It's worrisome for the young children as mom is becoming dissatisfied with dad. Lilly's work is evangelical, serving the poor, and setting up a ministry for herself.

Yes, I think Wat really wanted to do something to help you with the family financially plus I think he feels like he needs to support his mother in some way but since he’s not making any money and that’s maybe why he looks unhappy or depressed.

I worked in Taiwan for 8 years and was always told not to think too much. People do not talk as much in Asia or think too much. Different cultures. Actually it is much healthier for the brain and body, if we control our thinking and go with the flow. I am also not a person who likes to put up a happy face for people. I like to be myself. He is standing his ground. He wants to be himself. Lilly is doing a great job anyway. Things do become like this in a marriage. It's not always romantic and exciting. In the west we are brainwashed by movies and the media to what a happy marriage should be. Just accept that entertainment is going to be your job. He tried. Things will work out anyway. Family is HAPPINESS, are your kids happy, are you being respected, emmotianally supported, are your parents supporting of your relationship....if YES then there is nothing for you to explain. You and your husband are a compliment to each other, and that is how it works. Nam, gets my kudos for being such a great part of this family. Your relationship and care towards her is amazing. First of all your content is beautiful and authentic. I love how you instill back into society that struggles are part of a healthy family dynamics mixed with your success. Way too often we only see the edited version of contrived success in many content throughout all platforms of social media. This gives false sense of how life should be and that is unfortunately what so many young impressionable people are measuring themselves against. Your love and support for your family is showing the realness of life. I'm not a doctor nor do I hold any degrees in psychology but it appears that he is suffering from depression rather than laziness. Depression can suck all the energy out of a person. He is clearly grieving the loss of his father and prior to that the shutdown of his business during the pandemic. Though I'm certain your success with UA-cam is something he greatly admires because he admires and loves you, perhaps he's trying to find his success in all this as well. Maybe what he does not realize is even though its not him doing all the filming and all the wonderful things that you do he too is a great part of this channels success. As a person who works in entertainment and searches for content for TV and film I assure him that he's plays a huge part in this channels success. Your content is about family and your relationship without him there would be a huge missing part in this channel and it 's branding. Gently remind him that his journey even though it has it's challenges is great content. Find what he truly loves, Is it creating culinary magic? If it is help him create a youtube platform that is about his recipes and cooking, the dynamics of running a restaurant in an exotic location. That alone is great content! We already know him from this channel you can together create the next big "thing" through food. Everyone loves a good cooking channel. I thoroughly enjoy both of your channels. I am in recovery for drug/ alcohol addiction. I have 4 1/2 yrs clean and I'm also Christian but I'm just learning about God. I find comfort and in your videos. If you only affect one person with your life and struggles then it's worth it but you're effecting many people so even though it's difficult to not worry really give it to God because we both know through God anything is possible. Hi Lilly, I think there have been many challenges for all of us over the last 3 years. Thank you for being open about your life and sharing with us. It has helped me more than you know. I had to quit my job in November 2021 for many reasons. I miss working and need meaning and purpose. I have appreciated the time off but I am so ready to get back to work. She WAS interested in restaurants (like she and her White partner owned in the states.) That WAS her dream NOT his. Now she wants him to be a footman while she determines her restaurant's direction. THEN LAUGHING at him with her nanny/ housekeeper AND his children. Allegedly, seems to be a type of setup. Now she can bail out, she has inroads into his culture and economy, mixed-Thai children and a stateside business with her mom and sister PLUS she is accusing him of being lazy. But she has the nanny? They look real education that you got from true life university and more important than any internal education or university. Steve Jobs left from university once he felt that it was not his way and just a few years later he did succeed. Facebook creator also decided to out from Harvard university to build what he loved and lastly he made FB to be well known all over the world. Time is free, but it's priceless. It depends how we used it in time in our life we can't own it, but we can use it and at the same time we can't keep it, but we can spend it. Once we've lost it we can never get it back. In my view, your time in the past until now is regarded as your special reward that God giving you - your lovely children who will grow to be qualified human, your husband, Wat - who is honest and loyal to you and importantly beloved and excellent daddy of three kids. Besides you have nice and friendly friend like Nam who always builds warm and impressive feeling to you and your family even your fan club, everyone likes Nam. Lilly, today you have a perfect life, based on your experiences and your global education, and excellent family.
I agree that Lily does have a great life. They both show consideration to each other are a strong couple. I love learning about the things Lily talks about and explores. The kids are amazing, Luke is a Total American with Dad’s complexion; Leon looks completely American but has Wat’s demeanor💯. We will have to keep watching Lila develop but physically she looks like both. All are gorgeous, well behaved kids🤩🤩🙏❤️🩹

Very sad news this week of Lisa Marie Presley, and today Gina Lollabridgeda passed away. She was 95 years young. I am up between 3.30 and 4.00am every morning. I work till about 10.30am, come in have my breakfast, shower and sit down to watch anything that Lilly has put out for me to watch. In your bar, if you have any Tia Maria or Irish Cream. Please check it, as those liquers are made of milk. I had them, and they went off. Take care, stay safe, keep smiling, and all God's blessings on you, Wat your precious kids, and Nam. I don’t usually comment,but this is a great turnaround for your family. everyone needs structure and I think it’s especially hard for a man. You’re very wise Lily. I believe him going to the restaurant and also creating more of a traditional dynamic is going to help him and your family tenfold. A wife is a gift and a crown to her husband. However, we know that a bad wife can be a curse. as far as sleeping late, everyone has a different sleep schedule. Sometimes people work better by staying up later and waking up late morning as opposed to early morning. I am sending positive vibes to you I know this will work out in such a great way❤

Wat is a good and supportive father/husband. Yes you are right, men DO feel disconnected and depressed if he cant find his life purpose. For years men is to "provide" for his family, poor Wat he may felt "defeated" and unable to do much for the family - but he did. All those times on the road, you guys worked as a family unit. Tell Wat its okay to feel this way (we're humans anyways), but dont give up. And Lilly, you are an amazing spouse (good listener & observer) that understood this and instead of making him feel bad, you supported his decision to open the restaurant early so he could do something and this is good for his self esteem. Looking forward to visit your restaurant oneday!

My husband was able to retire early so he could raise our daughter while I worked. I always made more money. He also cleaned some and did laundry, he was under appreciated. Miss him as he passed in 2019. I reinvented myself and brought happiness, cherish everyday.

I'm sure that Wat may still be experiencing grief from the loss of his dad and his dear friend. It's been really a short time since his loss. When the sickness came it affected so many small businesses. So sad to see some of our favorite small businesses close. Even here in America we lost some small businesses that my family went to. So many people developed PTSD and depression from this new world we all had to get used to. It's good that you are getting back to doing what you love. It will be good for everyone. You are such a good cook and you lost so much weight, you could even do your own book with beautiful photos from the area and it would be cute to include everyone's favorite meals in your book, even the kids. You could even have a funny chapter on that stinky fruit. I am sure Nam has some recipes she could share too along with her families story. You have a lot to share with the world and God is right their by your side leading you in the direction to do this. God bless you and your family always.

Are you serious?, criticizing Wat for sleeping in? Wasn't that long ago he let you sleep while he looked after the boys and got up for the little girl. Nam looks after the kids and the house. A lot of mums are working two jobs and bringing kids up by themselves. Have a look in the mirror and count your blessings instead of criticizing your husband who adores you and your kids. Instead of negative criticism what about positive encouragement/direction.

I am Thai woman I been with Thai man before I have to say goodbye now I married to an Australian man . A lot of Thai men will not help much to looks after kids will not clean the house or cook because they believe this are women jobs even more bad is he got low income and the wife still go to work and have to come home do the rest of the job in house too bye bye thai man low quality

Many housewives complain of doing household chores although it's the role of being a married woman. You don't really know how a man feels that this woman's role is assigned to him ( a husband turned to houseband). Sleeping extra long hours is a sign of depression. Just be thankful that compared to other men, he is not brutal to his wife. A little encouraging may uplift and regain his confidence and enthusiasm to work again.
