I wish there was a short story with el'johnson and his chief librarian exploring his old armor collection. It would be called "The chronicles of Calaban: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" 😂
The amount of references to Arthurian legend in this is AWESOME. The Green Knight being the beheaded Chaos Marine, the Fisher King being the Emperor. So cool.
Great job! Side note. Years ago I started a DA successor chapter called the redeemed. The Leadership and chaplains had a vision and saw that not all fallen were evil and if they found a fallen or tainted - he will be welcomed back into the brotherhood. However, this was kept a secret from the DA and other chapters. So they operated on the fringe. So many other players mocked this idea.....but now - I wish I can see their faces now that their Father has forgiven them.
There's a reel/short somewhere that I saw that lives in my head rent free around one scenario. El Johnson finds out from one of his minions that Guilleman did his thing with a drukhari, and he's like "he did what with a WHAT?! GUILLEMAAAANNN!!!!!" And Guilleman is in his office when he stiffens up and is like "does anyone else feel a chill in the air? Kinda feels like... Disappointment from an older brother..."
The Lion can be in charge of the Dark Imperium, to safe guard it against Chaos as Gulliman can rebuild the rest of the Imperium and see what they can do about the Rift. The Lion is honor bound and Gulliman is a tactician. Both can rebuild the Imperium to what their father had, even with Chaos being a bigger thorn.
It's really funny that Dante is savvy enough to see Johnson's anger about the long-worn mask as proof that the Lion was who he claimed to be. Maybe he learned something from the chat with the Necrons?
I'm really looking forward to seeing The Lion and Guilliman re-united at some point. I bet they both feel like the only relatively sane person in the room most of the time having to deal with the likes of The Ministorum and The Inquisition as well as other Space Marines who only know of The Primarch's in legends and tales of their chapters. It'd be like a Christian getting to meet Jesus! I love seeing stuff like that, especially in 40k!
Well luckily for The Lion, the first person he met when he woke up was one of his original sons and not completely insane and religious like the rest of the imperium. I feel like the lion meeting with him was the best thing to happen for the both of them
@Commissar Yarricks ghost in the past they never really got along, but I think given the state of the galaxy they can get over it and work together to save the Imperium! Now this is grimdark, so likely something else will happen instead, but either way, exciting!
I have played the Dark Angels space marines since I was 9 years old and just hearing about the Lion coming back and forgiving his sons sent my inner 40k nerd SCREAMING. This was so cool and such an appropriate character arc. It's going to suck when Chaos gets that weapon, though.
Personally I didn’t expect the Lion to have the Emperors Shield and it’s badass power or his teleportation portal but I kinda love it especially with how Anagron got whooped and his head bashed off after being stabbed in the neck or the part where he met Dante sounded amazing from a voice over
@@dissraps to be fair, killing chaos demons is kinda the Lions whole thing so if anyone was going to do it, it’d be him. And yes I believe Angron would overpower the Lion physically but Angron is also extremely predictable, so I believe that the Lion is perfectly capable of beating him in a fight.
@@dissraps To be fair, deamon Angron was much stronger physically than the Lion. The Lion had to fight Angron by thinking tactically and baiting him with the Emperor's shield until Angron overextended himself. That was when the Lion struck his blow and banished Angron. For most of the fight between them, it was Angron who was on top and attacking relentlessly.
@@dissraps Angron is literally pure power without though so yeah the Lion contender for strongest duelist among the primarchs even if he is weaker will be able to match him through his skill
That ending where the Ancient Lord of the First realizing he wasn't alone after 400 years brought me to tears when hearing that for him. I was glad in someways for him. I never was big into the Dark angels but this tale made me relate to Lion in a way of a father trying to repent for his sins.
So, I find more stimuli and joy listening to you talk about the lore of 40k than any movie I watched since End Game. Keep up the good work Wes, it is excellent!
I'm still relatively new to 40k but this whole story is giving me feelings of hope I never expected when first venturing into the Grimdark. The return of a Primarch and the redemption for The Fallen.
I swear if GW needs to gets you to voice an audiobook, they are missing out on something great. Your storytelling kept me engaged the entire time. Fantastic video as always
I love that The Lion is worrying about how it will look that he's effectively made a mini Imperium in that part of the galaxy as he remembers how it looked to him when Robute did pretty much the same thing for the same reason back during the Heresy.
Bro, I've just been relistening to The Lion's final challenge in the dome building. The entire scene is rad as all hell and your narration just makes it 1000 times more awesome!
I am a newcomer to the 40K universe, but stories like this, and committed content creators like WesHammer are why I am here to stay. Great video, well done!
I hope it's either The Khan or Vulcan, but based on sales data It will probably be Russ. Personally speaking though, I think Valdor Will come back before another loyalist primarch
It would have been awesome if there was a curse on the Lion where he was aged for each of his fallen. Every son he redeems makes him younger closer to his prime.
I actually like that he has aged appropriately. Gives a good insight into how old all the primarchs (except for Vulkan and perhaps Magnus), would've gotten naturally, which seems to be 15.000-20.000 odd years judging by the Lion's current complexion.
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who listens to the audiobooks every day! It's been my routine for the past 3 years and lead me to launch my channel yesterday! The Dark Angels were always my favourite since I was a kid, and the amount of badass moments that The Lion has in the books solidifies that. The Lion returning along with the new terminators is the push that I needed to start getting back into miniatures.
Don't burn out, bro. It's the quality of your videos we love, not the frequency you post so if you need to take a couple extra days or weeks, no worries. We shall happily wait 😊
Great summary. For those of us who don't have much free time to read a book we would love to, you helped us understand where the lore has taken us. Which by the way, is a great way to bring grandpa lion into the 40k universe.
I always gets chills when the Emperor visions and bestows powers to his sons. He might test them but he don't judge, he just share his vision and let them make the decision themselves.

Coincidencedently, I picked the Dark angels as my space marine faction to play before this new of the Lions return and it has me all the more excited to collect some more. Like I want to get some heresy marines now and paint them up to match the risen that are depicted in the novel.
I got into warhammer last year and learned about the primarchs and to actual witness one coming back in my era gets me pump for the Imperial of man and setting from here on out for warhammer 40k.

Oh hell yeah, praise the Emperor! Perfect timing, just finished binging some past deep dives! Also, Wes, do you have a 5-10 book list of the essential novels for someone relatively new to their Warhammer lore obession? It's overwhelming trying to figure out which ones to read first.
The absolute best advice I can give you is to pick a faction or character you find interesting and then look up books based on them. That's the best starting point. Think of the 40k universe more like a comic book universe. You don't need to start with the very first Superman comic to get into DC comics. If you absolutely cannot pick though, the Inquisitor series is fantastic. So you'd start with the eisenhorn trilogy Caiaphas caine is also a really good starting point. Then there's the first three Horus heresy books. Absolutely fantastic, but it does require you to know a little bit about the universe. If you've watched a bunch of lore videos though, you can jump right in.
@@weshammer Thanks for the advice! I think I'll start with the Horus Heresy books, I love the Primarchs and their stories. They and the Astartes are definitely my favorite types of characters.

the only thing I'm going to cherish more than the Lion putting his 'unforgiven' sons in their place for their obsession to hunt 'the fallen' over protecting the imperium, particularly Asmodei and Azrael, more than even his Fallen sons rejoining him as Risen, it'll be the Lion shocking Robute by bro hugging him when they finally reunite.

@@Fourtytwo4242 well that’s the entire point of the story, as long as they stay true to themselves and what their primarch taught his sons he is willing to accept them. (Even taking some pride in that even despite their differing opinions they helped one another to survive)
…however I doubt he’d take too kindly to his sons making the same mistake as he did to their own primarch and his sons once more, he can accept that they were betrayed and tricked into fighting each other 10,000 years ago but if there is no misunderstanding this time and they strike down the risen, everyone has limits.

I never would've expected a story set in a grim-dark universe to have such a deep underpinning of hope.
That's the only reason to have a story in the grim dark universe.
@@KwizzyDaAwesome yes if there is only grim and darkness it gets boring, ultimately the good stuff is the battle of the light against the dark
The hope is what keeps people commenting back, the chance of everything getting better
I wish there was a short story with el'johnson and his chief librarian exploring his old armor collection. It would be called "The chronicles of Calaban: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" 😂
I bet Edmund would show up and betray Lion El Johnson because some chaos god offered him a turkish delight.
Fuckin Edmund.
@@sushmag4297 like... Edmund. Erebus. Coincidence?
😂😂😂 this is the only approved use for this particular joke, and I appreciate it.
The amount of references to Arthurian legend in this is AWESOME. The Green Knight being the beheaded Chaos Marine, the Fisher King being the Emperor. So cool.
“Yes, even Russ” is a great summary for the Lion’s new outlook 😂
Also, amazing work with the video Wes. Thank you!
Great job!
I can't wait to see G-Man and the Lion reacting to each other, it is going to be a lots of fun, But what do you guys think?
Wake up freeman.
I think Horus needs to come back and redo the heresy
There's a reel/short somewhere that I saw that lives in my head rent free around one scenario. El Johnson finds out from one of his minions that Guilleman did his thing with a drukhari, and he's like "he did what with a WHAT?! GUILLEMAAAANNN!!!!!" And Guilleman is in his office when he stiffens up and is like "does anyone else feel a chill in the air? Kinda feels like... Disappointment from an older brother..."
@TheTobi583 that was a dreadanon dub thing
@@thetobi583 here it is ua-cam.com/video/MnBb89zrCO0/v-deo.html
The Lion can be in charge of the Dark Imperium, to safe guard it against Chaos as Gulliman can rebuild the rest of the Imperium and see what they can do about the Rift. The Lion is honor bound and Gulliman is a tactician. Both can rebuild the Imperium to what their father had, even with Chaos being a bigger thorn.
Imagine what they would be capable of with Dorn
Guilliman is more of a Stratagist while the Lion is more of a Tactician. Otherwise spot on.
Guilliman also said he only looked up to two of his brothers in terms of strategic acumen. The lion was the other one.
I can imagine some interesting interactions with dante and the lion
@Herbert von Bismarck It actually happened in the new book
I want to see them hug and shed some primarch tears of joy
The book where they meet is going to be the most anticipated piece of fiction in a while
Well luckily for The Lion, the first person he met when he woke up was one of his original sons and not completely insane and religious like the rest of the imperium.
I need them to reorganize the imperium. How can a society have no advancement for 10000 years. If not for Cawl it would have all gone to shit by now
Wes. Dedicating himself to the lore like a chapter librarian. The Emperor smiles on thee for your dutiful diligence. Thank you boss man
I have played the Dark Angels space marines since I was 9 years old and just hearing about the Lion coming back and forgiving his sons sent my inner 40k nerd SCREAMING. This was so cool and such an appropriate character arc.
It's going to suck when Chaos gets that weapon, though.
Gets what weapon?
Personally I didn’t expect the Lion to have the Emperors Shield and it’s badass power or his teleportation portal but I kinda love it especially with how Anagron got whooped and his head bashed off after being stabbed in the neck or the part where he met Dante sounded amazing from a voice over
Same bro love the novel.
Oh the overpowered chaos primarchs getting destroyed by loyalists again? Who would have thought
As someone who relies on youtube for lore i just want to say fantastic job covering this spicy bit of the new story🍻
Same. I'm not really a book reader so UA-cam is my only source of lore.
Wes the armor is glorious
So, I find more stimuli and joy listening to you talk about the lore of 40k than any movie I watched since End Game. Keep up the good work Wes, it is excellent!
I'm still relatively new to 40k but this whole story is giving me feelings of hope I never expected when first venturing into the Grimdark. The return of a Primarch and the redemption for The Fallen.
I really like these deep dives. Thank god you stopped with short form because you can really do this format much better!
💯
I swear if GW needs to gets you to voice an audiobook, they are missing out on something great. Your storytelling kept me engaged the entire time. Fantastic video as always
Well done. The last few sentences were excellently delivered.... I really felt the relief.
The Imperium still existed. He was not alone.
goosebumps.
It gets better, bloodier, more heretical. Hang on to your power pack.
@@Emperor_Of_Mankind LLS!!!
I wonder who's going to be the third loyal Primarch to return back, but what do you guys think?
I hope it's either The Khan or Vulcan, but based on sales data It will probably be Russ. Personally speaking though, I think Valdor Will come back before another loyalist primarch
@@weshammer Me too, I mostly think Vulcan is half Ork now, due to the war of the beast.
The Khan
Man Corvus would be optimal especially since he’s half Warp Deamon badass hunting down traitors and the ravenguard haven’t been relevant for a while
Am a XIX beaky so some corax would be nice
It would have been awesome if there was a curse on the Lion where he was aged for each of his fallen. Every son he redeems makes him younger closer to his prime.
I actually like that he has aged appropriately. Gives a good insight into how old all the primarchs (except for Vulkan and perhaps Magnus), would've gotten naturally, which seems to be 15.000-20.000 odd years judging by the Lion's current complexion.
Nah sounds like chaos. If he really wanted to look younger, he can just get a rejuvenat treatment
Glorious content. Don't apologize for the grind, or the toll it takes on you. Keep doing you, bro.
22:44 I love that the Lion basically just got "Ok, boomer" by a dying chaos marine
One of the best Warhammer lore videos I have ever watched. Really makes it easy for a Warhammer noob like me understand the lore without having to know everything. I wish you would do audiobooks on all the Warhammer lore. Keep up the fantastic work legend!!!
Great vid! Tbh it makes me happy that he's happy that Guilliman is alive. I look forward to their eventual reunion
I was in the hospital for a very long time many months, and out of all of my so-called friends the only one who visited me besides family was a guy that I thought was a selfish prick. And he was there asking to help any way he was able.
I watched the entire video and it was only when I read the comment section that I just remembered you didn't appear on the camera for the whole time. I was completely taken by the story telling no kidding.
Also, this often goes unsaid but I really appreciate all the work you do and I hope you stay healthy and able to bring more awesome content in the future. cheers

What a great time to be a 40k fan. GW has really stepped up its game. The lions return has to be the greatest reveal in 40k to date and we are all here for it.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Wes!!!! That was incredible. I'm not gonna be able to read this for awhile, so this was a HUGE win for me. Thank you again Battle Buddy!!!

Wow. That was really great storytelling. And I LOLed when he mentioned how the Lion finds Guilliman insufferable haha
I wish Wes was around when i started getting into Warhammer because these videos are perfect for new people in hobby. Videos are concise, clear, and flashy enough to keep interest. Keep up the good work ❤
Oh hell yeah, praise the Emperor!
So you'd start with the eisenhorn trilogy
Caiaphas caine is also a really good starting point.
Man. You must've been among the first content creators to get to this books and finish them. We're glad you can do so. I really hope you get to enjoy the value your passion gives us.

Weshammer startin the week off droppin fuckin heat!!!
I love that the envoy from the traitors says he wants to be struck then whoever struck him will meet him to return the strike during the final battle. It’s the same concept as The Green Knight story and it’s funnier because the dark angels are usually green and knights lol

And bonus
It's an hour long vid!!
Keep these videos coming! You’re doing an awesome job and I look forward to your longer vids and the extra lore most of us have a harder time finding!
I’ll never forget the Lion and Rowboats first meeting. He literally did the big brother tying little brothers shoe lace thing with Gorillamans helmet. 😂
What did he do? I haven’t read that quite yet.
@@jamestipton7872 I forget how, but RueButt’s helmet end on the ground as Lion was descending the ramp to his ship. Lion strode over picked it up and dusted it off before handing it back to Girlyman. Between you and Major Kill I’m learning about this universe and I’m thankful for both of y’all
I love Dark Angels color scheme and the weird and special weaponry they use, but sometimes their edgy quest born out of guilt is too much for me. That is why I prefer the Angels of Absolution over the main chapter.
When it comes to the Dark Angels I mainly prefer the 30k ones (with a few exceptions such as Azrael).
The Risen are amazing, I wish we could get some kind of character kit for them like the Gaunt’s Ghosts box.
You're a fantastic story teller!! I've been playing Dark Angel for 25 years, these days of Lion El'Jonson's return are long awaited!!!

I just want to say a massive thank you to you Wes!!! You are an amazing guy and I think the whole 40K community appreciates you for your hard work and superb videos. You really helped get into the setting and everyone one of ur videos brings me absolute joy❤️
The Lion now has visions that conjure up weapons for him? He’s a Psycher! Unless those visions were only made by Big E for him personally. This is a veeeery interesting development knowing his opinions on Psychic powers.
The Primarchs are the sons of the two strongest psykers of human kind. They are ALL psykers. The loyalists, except for Corvus, refuse to investigate their potential, for fear of what they could become.
Probably all the Primarchs are psykers to some extent considering they are warp entities bound into humanoid bodies.
I started playing WH40K Tacticus the first time they sponsored you mate, still enjoying the game for its mechanics but especially for the guild chat. We are called Active Players Only, and we work as a team to navigate the grim darkness.
the only thing I'm going to cherish more than the Lion putting his 'unforgiven' sons in their place for their obsession to hunt 'the fallen' over protecting the imperium, particularly Asmodei and Azrael, more than even his Fallen sons rejoining him as Risen, it'll be the Lion shocking Robute by bro hugging him when they finally reunite.
You have developed to such a skilled storyteller, and this video is perhaps one of your best ones yet. I litterary stopped everything I was doing and just sat in the couch with my dog on my lap listening from the beginning to the end. Thank you for a wonderfull story, and keep up the good work. I await in anticipation for your next.
Who thinks the next Loyalist Primarch to return will be the Khan wrecking Wrymwood in the Webway?
It'd be hilarious if the reason the Drukhari are so distracted is because Jagatai Khan has been just continuously riding through in the background the whole time.
Lmao that would be really interesting and funny at the same time
Bro your growth since I found on tiktok is beautiful
"There's no spell. You're OLD." lmao.
Yo Wes I love this style of vid! It's nice getting to see you on shorter vids, but save yourself the extra hours of recording, editing, and video processing when you've already got an hour long script!!! 💖
I'm sharing this with my Warhammer buddies who are just as hyped about the Lions return!
I can't wait for more chaos primarks tbh, fulgrim is so cool and I think a model of him in demon form would be awesome. Great video btw!
To just get stomped again as usual?
Fulgrim is the only lame chaos primarch. Even angrons and mortarions sons like kharn and typhus are cooler than fulgrim.
Fulgrums only good moment is when he got owned by rylanor, and in turn created one of the greatest songs of all time.
I would prefer a Chaos Undivided Primarch, so either Lorgar or in a way Perturabo.
The lion the son for the forest was the third warhammer 40k book I've read and loved every bit of it, I've listen to loads of lore videos both from yourself and other channels
Gonna be great seeing the Two brothers team up and whoop any foes who come trying to cause some havoc or Chaos pun intended especially the reunion and what they say and the discussion or anger if there’s any and when he meets Big E and conversation 10K after the hearsay
Saw you on a Tacticus ad. Honestly the first actually good creator ad I've seen in a long time.
Lion El'jonson has to be my favorite primarch now.
Honestly I could listen to you making the audio books for this. This was amazingly well made and I appreciate the effort it took.
58:04 I honestly love how it seems like Dante was so shook by this that he actually took the mask off.
I’m a casual fan so forgive me if I am wrong, but Dante almost never removes his mask in front of others right?
I could easily see this book used to make the new live action series coming out. I think its a great premise to explain current time and put in flashbacks of the horus heresy to explain more exposition in a series.
"The Fallen shall be forever remembered as the Emperor's Finest."
