- Webster Hall, New York City. That's where we caught up with the musical duo (and sisters) Aly & AJ just before they were set to take the stage in front of a sold-out audience. The venue was shaking from the soundcheck as we eagerly awaited our sit down with the pair.
Both Aly and AJ Michalka are well known in the entertainment world. Both have spent a considerable amount of their lives acting - both in television and film - while simultaneously building a devoted fan base for their music. Go to any one of their shows and you'll see every last fan dancing jubilantly and mouthing every last lyric to every song. We saw them during their tour in promotion of the album "A Touch of the Beat Gets You Up on Your Feet Gets You Out and Then Into the Sun." But we weren't there to talk music (though we did a little bit), we were there to talk watches (which we did a lot).

As a female collector I appreciate seeing more women on here!!! And I am also a big fan of this band so double score
ALY & AJ!!!! This takes me baaaack! I freaking love this, and I loved hearing these gorgeous ladies talk about watches. That Daytona looked so dang amazing on Aly. Such cool ladies, cool watches, what more could you want from a Talking Watches
Gringaaaaaa ❤
She needs it sized though
This was a great episode so glad to see that they truly love watches loved seeing that 1999 shot of her getting so excited over her watch as a little girl
A priceless moment. One of my best gift memories was finally receiving a calculator watch (I’m a child of the 80s) for Christmas. I’ve loved watches as far back as I can remember. Sadly, no AP, PP, or VC watches yet.
@@joeftan same I'm a 80's kid my 1st watch was a gift from my grandmother f91w and then later on a Calculator watch then as years went by timex and solar powered watches the watch hobbies sure is is fun one day would love to own one of the big 3 cheers🥂⌚
This was an amazing episode. Love seeing women collect beautiful watches. I plan to watch this episode with my daughter. I have already gifted her two watches from the past. She already has an eye on my IWC Spitfire. She loves this one. I plan to give this one when she graduates from college next year. Thank you for this episode.
Kind of crazy. I remember as a kid watching these two on the Disney Chanel. Now I am 28 and a watch collector and they are too. Aly and AJ have fantastic taste and I can tell they are very into it. I really like fact of how into the story of the watches and the history behind them. Aly and AJ have really grown up since there Disney Channel days. Great video I really enjoy it.
I'd never heard of this pair of ladies before this episode (I'm old and I listen to classic rock), but I loved their approach to watch collecting and it was a pleasure to see them on this episode of Talking Watches. More of this type of episode with women collectors please.
Hadn’t heard them before, but that was an excellent talking watches. Thanks for sharing the collections and stories.
I loooooove them, this is the most unexpected collision ever. Thanks for having them on!
As a 22 year old man who grew up with these two on the Disney Channel, this was a cool episode
Great episode. As a female watch collector it’s nice to see 2 young women into vintage timepieces. Love their stories and their collections.
This was a fun episode, the home video and stage footage really brought the story to life
Actually one of my favourite Talking Watches Episode.
Wow this takes me back to the days they were on Disney, such a dope episode! Loved hearing their stories and why they chose each one. They’ve got amazing taste, that 404j is incredible
Love this. Give me Talking Watches with every breakfast bowl of granola and dried cranberries.
Well done, love the storytelling and the editing for this feature! Yes, more SVP!
What a great episode! It is always great hear the intresting stories behind the watches and especially when people have true passion for watches. I hadn't heard of them but now I have to listen their music also. 🙂
Great talking watches. Loved it and need more like it!
Shoutout to the interviewer. I thoroughly enjoyed every interview you’ve given. Keep killing it.
I'm impressed. Those girls actually knows what they are talking about! Respect.
I don’t even know who these girls are but I love their collection and accompanying stories.
Loooooved this episode! They're so fun to watch talk about their journey in collecting. So recognizable, the excitement! 😊😍
It’s truly a blast to see these two ladies talk about this thing that they love and are incredibly devoted to. They probably don’t get to nerd-chat about watches very often so it’s a lot of fun to see how excited they are to share their stories and their knowledge.
So nice to see them really into the watches and not just like…this is my expensive piece and the this is my even more expensive piece and so on. They genuinely enjoy watches.
Great video. That collection (especially the Daytona and the Disco Volante) is STUNNING.
It's good to see more women getting excited about watch collecting.
This episode is so, so good, and with so much genuine passion and love for (vintage) horology!
The choices here are lovely, with Aly's Omega Constellation and AJ's Patek Philippe 404J (1934) being my personal favourites 😍
Also AJ's other Omega Constellation, in tonneau, is new to me!
Wow. Great episode. One of the best ever. I have been encouraging my teenage daughter to embrace watch collecting, and she’s mildly interested so far. Kudos to HODINKEE to be pushing the equation, and encouraging the hobby across gender, age, occupation, lifestyle, etc. I was captivated by your guests depth of knowledge and enthusiasm.
Thank you! One of the best episodes for me as a female watch collector.
They have such a beautiful collection and I loved the stories behind each of them! Great episode. 😁
I’m actually surprised how good this episode was. AJ really knows her stuff right down to the movement. The video at the beginning was really cute
Damn love both these girls. Aly & AJ has some common interests as some of us, watches and guitars….Love it.
Best talking watches in a long time
Love this episode! Inspired me to wear my vintage Omega tonight.
I completely agree, I would love to see more women featured with their collections!
Well done! Refreshing collectors :)
These ladies know their stuff. Great video
Didn't know of these two before this, but really enjoyed the episode.
A new top 5 episode for me. The depth of collection and the wholesome stories, this was great!
These watches are all so cool! I love their choices especially AJ. If I had the money those are almost exactly what I'd have.
This one was great to watch. Thanks!
Great episode! Love the energy! A great window into vintage without it being over the top… lovely heirloom(s) as well
This was one of my favorite TW episodes. Great interview, great people, great watches!
What an amazing episode. So much compassion and love for watch design. That Patek is amazing by the way, love the font used.
This was so heartwarming! Loved it
Great collection! Love their style
This is the best talking watches! Amazing content. Aly and AJ are gems.
Amazing collections. The caseback with a Levi’s denim finish was quite unexpected. Wonderful ladies and great music. Thanks for sharing.
That Omega Constellation is quite simply stunning!
AJ has great taste! this video was a delightful surprise to me, wow.
Awesome episode! I can see the duo love in their watches and interesting story of the pieces. Looking forward to seeing more. Keep it up!
How fun and what nice pieces between the both of these. Cool seeing them into watches being that I grew up with them on Disney Channel
Totally love this episode! Great work HODINKEE!
Love all the stories! More women on Talking Watches please.
Thanks for introducing me to a Musical duo I was not familiar with. Lovely ladies both!
Beautiful collection
Great classy collections by both ladies, love it
Nice, real love for watches going on. Good stuff here for sure.
Phenomenal video - completely made up for that travesty of a video with that Beth woman.
These ladies are truly engaging and passionate. Thank you for sharing your stories!
This was awesome.
A phenomenal episode! Loved the dynamics!
These girls know their stuff! Great collection from the both of them 🔥
So cool to see Hodinkee become part of the lore and culture of what they began writing about. Certainly seems like you've inspired a lot of new collectors and Aly & AJ seem to be two of them. Hodinkee has come full circle.
Great collection, I love the Patek Philiipe
Cute video! Great seeing women into watches.
So nice to see ladies who love watches as much as I do!
Amazing video!! Chears from Italy 👍👍👍
More of this please!
Fresh, honest, diverse.
Loved the episode, both great collections.
Such a good episode! I grew up watching them (and still listen to their music), so this was so great to see. How fun would it be to catch up with them in a few more years to see how their collection grows and changes?!
Loved this!
LOVE this video...keep them coming!
This is incredible!
What amazing taste in watches!
Cool episode.... 👏
Even though I didn't know these nice ladies, I enjoyed this episode.
First ever seen episode and not disappointed, will definitely be tuning back in
Went into this one super pessimistic. But I was wrong. Great episode! No 5711's or RO's. Just great watches and real passion. Well done!! REALLY well done!
One of the best episodes ever great watches and amazing guests-long way from cow belles!
those pateks are... incredible the 7 & 6 respectively wow
Great episode, def respect the conversation and collection.
I saw them live at lollapalooza last year in Chicago and they were amazing! Great taste in watches wow!
Brilliant episode.
Awesome! ❤️👍🏻
great collections!
I was a bit sceptical before watching this one but I loved it. They've got some knowladge and great taste.
I've never had the pleasure of listening until now. Me being the watch geek that I am, it's an honor to know and hear your music, you two :)
I'll check out the next dates and see if you're in concert pretty soon near me
Great episode, the chat, the stories and the editing 🙌🏻
Fantastic episode 👏👏👏
What an episode!
It was the home movie at the beginning that did it for me! My favorite start to any Talking Watches! They had some really cool, special pieces as well!
Fun episode. Cool to see their collection. Women actually are in a really cool place in terms of what they can collect. There are so many vintage watches out there that are of a smaller size that men don't want to wear anymore, and women can sport beautifully.
Fantastic episode!! I have to share this with my wife and sister in the hopes that maybe they’ll understand my obsession.
I don’t wanna bring the tone down but this is the 69th episode of talking watches. Nice.
Really enjoyed this episode of Talking Watches. From someone that collects mostly vintage watches, I can understand the reason behind this collection. I started collecting for the same reason, to have an heirloom and the majority of my watches have a backstory behind them, two of which come from the Second World War and one during the 1917 Russian Revolution. Mostly all of them have been gifts to myself. It's great to see more women collectors out there. I never heard of them until now, but it'll be great to see them again after a few years and see how far their collection has progressed.
This was actually so sick
As someone who has watched everyone ep of TW this is SUCH A WELCOME EPISODE
Great episode, really a nice taste and variety in their collections!
What is the ref. on the tonneau case Omega Constellation? That thing is stunning!
I first want to apologize for having doubts how interesting this would be but it was great. Perfect advice on starting out with a Cartier. For those with a smaller budget might look at the Ventura, my wife loves that watch.
Nice Talking Watches - more please!
loved yours

Jeez. What an episode.
