Well... to be fair... it's not like everyone along that route was Italian. People come from all over the world for these races.
I know UAE is officially UAE team but it is also the most Italian team among pro tour teams. Everybody like him but Italians like him probably bit more than Brits, Danes, French, Germans etc

To be honest, I am beginning to dislike him… it’s not a fun race when he is in it. 😢 really wished this on for Ganna.

Sooner or later difference scares people. You don't have to dislike someone because their performance is outstanding at an activity, that's what sport is all about.

Profile plays a huge role, too. You certainly don’t expect Ganna winning a TT finishing on La Planche Des Belles Filles, even though it’s a time trial. Well, maybe you do :P Once the road goes uphill, those pesky watts per kilogram kick in. Pippo did great, btw.

Spent 2 weeks in Perugia directly where the stage was passing today. Lots of good memories, really nice area with lots of culture to explore but very shitty to ride your road bike

@@ryand141 There is a saying that the more south you go in Italy, the harsher roads become. And this holds true although it is meant to describ the economy of the regions. Perugia itself isn't good for cycling; the approach they had was one of the easiest ones. Other roads have gradients even higher as the city itself literally sits on top of a mountain. Surrounding area is a bit better to ride but I really regretted to take my 25mm TL wheels back then.. If you are visiting Italy and intend to ride your road bike I recommend Tuscany or Northern Italy

Pogi demonstrated that he can ride smart and hit the full gas at the right time. I thought no way was he going to beat Ganna being 47 sec behind at bottom of climb!

He is a way better climber no big surprise there, just the amount he was able to claw back. But that is Pogacar.

At one junior race, when Pogi was 14, a reporter in the escort car told Hauptman, now UAE technical director, to slow down the group of riders in front so that the little rider would catch up because he was struggling so much. But Hauptman answered him...because he is chasing them for a whole circle. 😀

i knew that Pogacar would finish 1st cause when I saw his start (i live in Foligno) he was the only to get to the first right turn in 13 seconds while all the others did it in 16 + so....Plus,that final stint from Ponte Valleceppi to the finish line was spectacular

The Ganna is undoubtedly faster on the straights, but it is heavy and loses on the climbs and corners. It was an uphill finish at the end, so Pogacar had a chance to win
Yeah, but there was only small climb in the section. That bloke is not build for that flats, but he still managed to pull it off. Ganna has trained for this for years, so but its bollox

Pogacar is such an incredible talent and nobody is gonna questioning it, but we can all agree knowing what is the time to beat is a great advantage. And thinking that the route and the hills haven’t played a big role is also a huge mistake.

Pog has been in the mix for the stage EVERY day...Gana passed THREE riders and Pog finished 17 seconds faster than him. I don't believe my eyes. Mind you, I WANT to. But following this sport since 1982 has taken my naiveté.

Ganna made a fool of Pogi passing him in TT time some time back. Starting after him. Its just shows the hill favours the lighter rider. When it comes to raw power on TT flat stages. Pogacar is a baby for Ganna
Feel bad for the commentators and journalists covering this. Unless he has a technical, health or family issue of some magnitude, Pogacar is winning this Giro with some margin. The fact that Geraint Thomas (as much as I like the guy) is being called by those commentators as Tadej’s biggest rival says a lot about the competition for GC victory. Or lack of. The gulf in quality is big.

The unveiling of the route and subsequent (or previous) team decisions about who’s gonna ride what GT. Certainly would be more interesting with Wout present, at least those classics profile stages.

Pogačar's level is extraordinary and excellent. Today he defeated the INEOS and former British team riders. And also Felipe Martínez who defeated Geraint who is the big loser of the day.
Filipo Ganna's result is inconsequential because his only objective is the stage, rested compared to those who fight on the podium and even then. The last time he won an important time trial was in the 2023 Vuelta a España at Remco and neither of them fought for the general classification. Roglič was third in that time trial and third overall. That is the greatness of the modern cyclist. Fight in the time trial and in the mountains.
I thought Cian Uijdebeboeks would lose more time but there is progress with Visma.
Well, Pogacar is extraordinary but we’ve all known that for a very long time. It’s just that who he rides against here are not the very best cyclists in the world. GC or TT (ok, Ganna is but the profile was against him here).
