I hope it will be worth it! I'm a wavy and have been using the method. I used to put no product or heat in my hair at all and thought product was bad, but you just gotta get the right stuff! The length of my hair does weigh down my curls into being more wavy while air drying, and I find that no matter how I diffuse it it still causes so much frizz. Gonna hang in there and keep trying, cause on wash days I cant help but to feel fabulous with my definition!
It is worth it! I started in January, and it has finally started to be consistent good hair days. It is amazing, I see myself in the mirror and it’s like I finally see myself the way I was supposed to be! It’s crazy how just taking care of my hair has turned into loving my hair which has turned into loving the core of who I am! Love your channel Courtney!
Btw @samantha viviano, I have found muuuuuch better diffusing results by gently cradling my hair as I am diffusing. So, for example, while my diffuser is on the back of my hair, with my other habd I will always cradle the front curls, and then when the diffuser goes to the front, I cradle the back. no smashing or scrunching, just protecting from gravity and the weight of the water. It has doneAMAZING for my definition, curl at the root, and volume! Also look up hammock diffusing for a similar concept, but it was too slow for me lol and my hair dryer on the counter wouldnt stay in place 😂 Good luck and keept at it! 🤗
I've been doing a modified CG method since about March this year. I do agree that this way of managing my hair is more time consuming and definitely a trail and error thing. I get frustrated with my hair's texture quite often, as the back of my head is less wavy than the front. Sometimes it's even straight after plopping and styling 😑 Still, I enjoy how my hair has become healthier, and how I can make the wave pattern pop with some products, for the most part lol, and then let it fall straight without products if I want a break. I'm a 2a-2b wavy so it's nice that I can go from more defined waves to a more relaxed, nearly straight, hair.
Hi Courtney! This was a great and much needed video. Could you do one for "Things I wish I had known during transition"? I am 2 months into this journey and now I am experiencing less frustration after realizing things like, good second hair day won't happen until a few more months, is not like I am doing something wrong, just have to be patient. Also I noticed that I still can't quite refresh with water without getting a ton of frizz but it seems to be getting better as my hair gets healthier. Thanks!
I know this video is 3 years old and I don’t even know if you’ll see the comment, but I have to say thank you for this video just in case you do read them. I am new to the curly girl method with my wavy hair and have been watching a TON of videos the last month. This is the best one I’ve seen! Like you, I spent years straightening my hair. I have been so discouraged because I have yet to have my hair look good with this method. The only good things I’ve noticed is my hair is shiny and not as dull, doesn’t feel like straw and it’s not breaking off like crazy. Other than that it looks awful. My waves wave goodbye day one and I’m left looking like I slept on a braid 3 days ago. You give me hope. I’ll stick with the program.. I want that wonderful self acceptance one day!!
Since starting the cgm in April I have been asked if I got a perm so many times! It’s funny to see their reactions when I say “nope, it’s natural”. They don’t believe me half the time 😂
I live in asia and my students generally just assume I permed it. If they ever mention how my hair looks I'll casually tell them it's natural and the next 5-10 mins those students are running to other ones going "THAT'S TEACHER'S NATURAL HAIR SHE DIDN'T PERM IT" and all the kids lose their minds. I love it.
I'm on my third month with 2c-3a curls and totally agree with the self acceptance bit and I think that's the biggest gift of CGM! The fact that the hair which you previously once thought wasn't as great as others(read straight shiny hair) could become a defining feature without having to artificially modify it kind of translates to all other parts of one's life ☺️☺️
I’m two weeks in today, and having the best hair day I think I’ve ever had. I could almost cry I’m so happy with it!!! Starting the CGM has been a way to reconnect with myself and my needs during this crazy pandemic (I work in health care so most of my time and energy has gone to other people and my work the past several months). You are such an inspiration, Courtney. So glad to be on this journey.
How do you start? I'm having trouble figuring out if my hair is dealing with protein overload, moisture overload or figuring out if it's balanced so how do I start? I don't know what products to lean toward. Moisture or protein or should I get both? I tried to figure out if it's protein or moisture overload and every article just confused me even more. Maybe my hair is balanced? IDK. So that's why I have no idea where to begin with which products
After losing all my hair during cancer treatment, my hair is growing back VERY curly . I'm having trouble dealing with it. Thanks, Courtney, for your insight & encouragement!
We're here for you Karen. I'm sorry you've fought such a difficult fight but I'm so happy you're winning. I'm sure your curls are as beautiful as your spirit.
I would love to learn more “sciency” things! Including more about surfactants, wax, hydrating vs sealing oils, and polyquats. Thank you for your videos!
rh4joy I have been on CGM for a year and I have come a very long way by educating myself about the science behind curly hair! I love ❤️ to watch Courtney and Mel. You can find Mel at @ Manes By Mel here on YT! Their are many others I watch on YT.
Thanks for putting out some hard truths about the CGM journey and the encouragement to stay the course. I gave up after 4 months, deciding I was just not a wavy girl. So I focused on hair health instead of waves and at about the 5 month mark I had a decent wavy day! Followed by months of frizzy failure. But about 9 months in I started to find my groove and am now getting consistent wavy results. And like you it came with self-acceptance. To find a routine that worked for me I had to stop trying to make it wavy like yours, and discover what *my* waves looked like.
Silverhaired59 If you can see my profile pic that’s a good wavy day for me - air dried with a bit of Bumble & bumble grooming creme gives me some volume and big natural waves with minimal gray frizz. I can get it wavier with more time and product (uncle funky daughter’s curly magic + Jessicurl Spiralicious on soaking wet hair, plop 15 mins, diffuse forever). For me the secret is to not comb through my hair once out of the shower - praying hands and scrunching/pulsing is my friend. But it took months for my hair to be hydrated enough to hold a wave.
I'm 2 weeks in and my hair looks exactly like the photo you put up at 3:43. I'm so relieved that the mess I've got going on right now isn't the end for me, lol
How did you know you should start? I’m trying to figure out if I should start - I have straight hair like hers before however my baby hairs are wavy and my hair has a wavy pattern when it is wet.
Omg same I started a few myths ago and my hair is great right after but then a few hrs pass and I'm like wait wth as some of my hair is frizzy or flat and the rest has waves even a random curl or two I have multiple hair types in my hair but so glad that this is not the end I've been doing this for like four months now and haven't using a straightener or curler in almost a year
Yes. I don’t wear nearly the amount of makeup after going completely curly! Loving being a curly girl I feel so much more confident this is the best I’ve ever felt about my hair/myself🥰 Totally making my sisters turn curly too thanks for all the helpful videos Court!!
I started the CGM at the end of March because I was in lockdown and not styling my hair. I’m shocked at how quickly my hair responded. I’ve been super happy with my waves! I’m washing my hair less, not depending on dry shampoo, and I feel like it’s so much healthier and longer already!
I get compliments on my hair from strangers on bad hair days too. I've always thought it was the strangest thing! I'll be on like nasty day 7+ hair that's up in a ponytail and people come up and say the nicest things. I think we frequently forget how far our hair has come during this journey, and now the hair we have on our "bad" hair days was once the hair we dreamed of having one day.
The first good hair day I had since when I started the cgm (I was super happy and proud of it btw) I had someone tell me my hair looked really pretty and she asked me how long it took me to do my and I started talking about how it probably only took maybe 10 minutes on top of normal washing to style it and then she asked me “that’s you natural hair?!?!” And it was one of the most encouraging moments of my journey. She thought I had curled my hair!!! And idk why but that has been one of the best moments and reasons I haven’t given up on curly girl
#9 and 10 struck a cord for me. I cant believe the level of confidence and self love I have experienced in accepting my hair the way it is and embracing it. I'm 10 months in and couldn't be happier that I decided to do this. I cant imagine going back. Great video! ❤
As an adult I've always had the same issue with completely detangled hair becoming tangled without any contact, wind, etc. Thank you for adding the ending to this video. So much truth that I'm starting to enjoy! Loving your channel.
I started mid March and I’m seeing so much healthier hair. I’m now getting nice twists and I can’t wait to see what it looks like after a year. I have learned so much from your videos and others that I see now my technique pre cgm was totally wrong. Now I’m not hating how my hair looks wavy anymore. I used to blow it straight probably 3x a month and use flat irons and wands . I’m slowly learning how to refresh quickly and my new techniques are making a huge difference.
Never commented on a video before but seeing as I have watched almost every single video you have made, thought I'd take a second to thank you. I have learned so much and you gave me the confidence to give the CGM a try. I've got one week under my belt and hope to make it to one year. Thanks for choosing to share your knowledge.
I'm on cgm for 4 months and after 2 month mark my hair become so healthy and shiny that I couldn't believed it. I'm using quite affordable drugstore products but I think it was the Olaplex No3 that made big difference coz I dye my hair black once a month. After two months I stoped experimenting with prudcts coz I found good combo but now I'm looking for some more advanced products. I trained myself with technique that works for me and it's less of a work and time consuming but it took some time getting used to it for sure. When it comes trying products I was struggling more before cgm actually. I feel like the reason people struggle with products in cgm is coz they are just starting and hair is in transition so nothing looks good. Even the best of products won't look in demaged hair so it's important to be patient. Find some decent products and start with that and then upgrade it as you're progressing.
I just passed the 3 month mark and my hair has really turned a corner for the better! I have never owned or used so many hair products in my life 😆 and it is a lot of work, but for me it is net less work. I used to shower and wash my hair at night because there was no way I could do it in the morning AND style it to make it look presentable without waking up super early. My scalp is also SO much happier since removing sulfates and silicones. I'm excited to see how my hair will continue changing, but I'm already really happy with it!
I started it about a month ago and already I’m feeling so much more confident in myself :’) i had my first day 3 hair refresh today and it ended up WAY better than I thought (i’ve only been going to day 2 so far😂) and my friend who I haven’t seen in a while told me my hair looked so curly and pretty and when i tell you my heart SWELLED
I have started my curly journey 3 washes ago,I have been going through tremendous damage to my hair,I used Brazillian hair treatment for 3 years straight,2022 was just a turn around for me. I have started using Olaplex since Jan 2022,still used heat on my hair until middle March and just decided enough is enough. So I just washed my hair and left it in a bun until I came across your channel....and what a blessing for me!! I bought the Cantu range on Wednesday 18 May 2022 for and after 2 washes I can already feel and see a diffrence. I'm so excited to embrace my natural hair. Thanks for all the great info!!!Courtney.Your hair looks fabulous!!you are awesome!!!!
I have found during my transition that I occasionally have a curl that sort of goes wild. I have gotten compliments from strangers on the little curl, I think that is because there is contrast between the hair that decided to be wavy versus the rest of the frizzy mess atop my head.
I'm about 7 months in and my hair is finally starting to Look much more healthy and s Lot shinier! I must say though , that i don't do everything exactly how the cgm says it/roughly following the Rules but it is definetely worth it! For real, this method has saved my hair, which was damaged by certain silicones and wrong hair caire. I am so thankful🙏
I agree. I thought doing the CGM would make things a lot easier getting ready in the morning. Ha...it is a lot of work but the results are great (usually). Every once in a while I think about ditching the method, then I look at a good hair day pic and then I am sold. If anyone is thinking about it, dont give up.
Im on my second wash of my wavy hair journey. I always thought my hair was straight until now. I’m even starting to get waves at my root. Yesterday was my best hair day! I’m hoping today on day two I can refresh successfully! My goals are to have my defined waves without having a lot of cast. That’s what I’m struggling with now. But I’m so excited for this journey!
Very well said. I loved #10 SO much. I agree 100%. You have been such a treasure for me on my journey. I began 1 year ago at the age of 61. I’m never going back! Thank you for helping me along the way.🌸
I'm just starting my curly girl journey. I spent years straightening my hair because I hated how my curls look. Your channel has been a great source of information for me!
You are such a sweet sweet person. I am just hearing about the Curly Girl Method and slowly getting ready to start my journey. I am happy I found this video and found your channel. I will be using your tips and advice throughout my journey. Thank you so much for being so real and honest!
I agree with the compliments on worst hair days. One instance that I can recall was almost a year ago when I was like 2 weeks in the CG method (still transitioning so it looked awful! Frizzy, dry, and no curl definition) and my friend said he really liked my hair! Edit: I can also agree with self love and acceptance as well as confidence, I have never loved myself or my hair this much and I'm so happy to finally feel confident! It's crazy when I look back and remember how much I used to hate my hair and now I'm absolutely in love with my curls ❤️
@@jeanagarrett92 So nice to hear from someone else! My day 1 still isn't all that great haha. I'm coming from many years of hair straightening and dying though. My hair has definitely grown and is getting more manageable and healthy. Still a little scary leaving the house curly but I'm not giving up
Oh! I have 100% had the random compliments on a bad hair day. I was talking curly hair with the cashier at Sally’s on a blah hair day, and without knowing I felt meh about my hair, she told me it looked fantastic. 🥰
I love the verse you used. We are fearfully and wonderfully made! I was just talking to my sister that as part of my self acceptance I wanted to embrace the hair I was born with. I did purchase some curly hairextensions to help look more fuller but over all I really want to embrace the way the Lord made me. I’m so glad you said that
I have to say, I started the curly girl method just before Thanksgiving 2020 and this transition time is tough. I get my hair done and it looks pretty good -with some nice waves, not clumping like yours, but clumping more than it did before the curly girl method. (I didn't even know what a curl clump was HA!) And just like you said, 2 hours later, my waves are not only hanging limp, but I have a halo of frizz around my head. UGH. BUT, I HAVE had people say, "wow, what are you doing to your hair, it has so much volume and looks great!" I'm like, seriously?? But I take it and feel good that I am doing something good for my hair! I have watched so many of your videos to help me through transition and learn all I can, my husband thinks I'm too obsessed (and I probably am, but I love it), I hope I can get him to see the changes my hair is making! Thank you so much for doing these! They have been life savers for all my questions!
7. People complimenting on your worst hair days. I actually had this happen to me three days ago when I skipped my wash day and went to the beach where I tried to cover up my hair with a hat. Someone came up to me and asked me how I got my hair in such pretty beach waves. Well..that’s just what happens to my curls if I neglect them long enough 🙈😂
I use shea butter only and emolsify it in my hands. apply to damp hair. then comb through. then turn the shower onto tepid and drench your hair while crunching. then scrunch our clumps with your hands until you squeeze most of the water out.. then scrunch it into curls with a micro fiber towel. it works great and the curls hold in place. thanks!
Curly hair is a journey, not a destination. The more we can enjoy each stage, the happier we’ll be. It’s like driving across the country. If you go from Iowa to Oregon, there’s A LOT of flat land. But there’s beauty in corn fields too! It’s just different from mountain beauty. If you can only see mountains as beautiful, you’ll be bored and anxious the whole first... first two days of the trip. You’ll miss the way the sunlight plays over grain fields, or just the sheer vastness of creation. There’s so much to enjoy and appreciate in the early stages of CGM. Healthier hair, the new world that’s opened up... It’s important to appreciate all of it. ETA: I got my MyManeBio report yesterday, speaking of loving the hair we have! Thanks again for highlighting them.
I started following you when I had the same spiritual realization to love what God gave me. Your last statement was my thoughts almost exactly. Wow 🤯 Thank you for sharing all your hard work and knowledge with the rest of us God bless
I started the CGM two weeks ago after MONTHS of research and I've just used my new products today and was super frustrated because my hair is still feeling not great and not sitting how I want it to. I've not used too much product etc but I have to remember I've dyed my hair 7 times since February and this is gonna be a longggggg process. Even after cutting 3 inches of damage away! Resisting the urge to just wash, blowdry and run the straighteners through is SO tough right now! Your videos are keeping me going with the whole thing, it's a journey and persistence is key but omg I wish it was easier!
I totally feel the strangers complimenting you on your worst hair day, I was having a hair day fhat was just awful but I was at Walmart and another curly haired woman complemented my hair and it just makes you feel sooo good!
The content of this video is huge. Thank you. These have been my observations exactly....I finally love my healthy curly...like 3a....who knew...I fought it forever...only bleach sort of subdued it until it broke off...don’t get me started...thank you Courtney for expressing Gods gift of beautiful hair to us so eloquently 😃❤️🙏🏼
I'm a 2c/3a. I absolutely love your hair. I wish I was more of a 2b/2c most days. I'm just starting out and watching your videos have made me slightly less overwhelmed and more hopefull
I noticed improvements in my hair after using a sulfate-free shampoo, now I'm waiting for another bottle and a silicone-free conditioner to arrive. I've type 2 hair but am not sure which one since like you said the curls drop really quickly now in the beginning. So far I've only had waves on day one and they drop a lot in a short time, great to hear it being the same for someone that has pulled through and gotten great results ❤
Started the cgm about 2 months ago and a couple of my coworkers are asking what I'm doing to my hair. They are commenting on the curls. I too have the same kind of hair like you Courtney.
Hi Courtney! I receive lots of compliments for my hair even after a 12 h ICU shift😁 thank you for your great videos, full of humor and honesty, they helped me a lot during this journey into the CGM: I finally accepted my hair and the way I am. Love from Italy!
alice renieri how are you doing as far as the pandemic? On the coast of Oregon, we’ve had less than 10 so far in our county. Our 75 bed hospital is fine so far. Thinking of your country and sending hugs
Thank you so much Megan Lynch! Well, the situation seems under control here. I live in Tuscany, we've been very lucky, compared to Lombardia...but I'm still worried of course, thinking about my beloved family and all the people who are at risk. I hope you'll be safe. Thank you so so much, I really appreciated your kindness!
I was born with tight spiral curls but never knew, my mother always dried my hair straight and I followed suit as I grew up and did it on my own. It wasn't until I was 18, went to the beach with friends and my hair dried on its own, super curly! Salt water really brings out the curls. I confirmed with my mom (who has fat curls and my dad has tight spirals) that I was born with curls. I do not wash my hair every day but I do wet my hair daily to tame the frizz. For bigger curls like yours, "flopping" is a good method. I spent 6 years using straightening treatments (profile pic) and it took about 4 years to get my curls back. FYI: when you turn 40-45, your hair will dry out :( You will miss the oil, I swear! When it is dry it breaks hence your problem with straightening.
I've been "getting started" since about April. Still learning and making mistakes. Definitely frustrating to spend so much time getting my hair wavy only to have it almost completely gone in a few hours. BUT! Definitely getting positive comments from coworkers and family even when I'm down about it being a "bad" wavy day.
Thank you so much for this. I have been watching all your videos for about 2 months and man.. this helped me realize my hair is not bad. I just got to stay with “training” my hair. Plus I just got diagnosed with a thyroid condition and now taking my meds for it. So in time my hair will be back to it’s healthy self again 🤗
Really loved your 10 things. I'm in the process of my curly girl journey as well. Definitely challenging but like you, tips 9 and 10 keep me going. I'll be 60 this yr and I can't believe the change in my hair in the last year. I miss my smooth finished over hair but it is so much healthier letting it be natural. I get more compliments on my hair now than ever before. Still not sure it looks good on me, but I agree with how much better I feel embracing what I was given and not fighting against it to be "different". Peace and Love to you❤
It happened to me too two weeks ago! One of my Coworkers came to me on a really really really bad hair day, and she asked me: "Is this your natural hair? It's soooooo beautiful! Your curls are amazing! I love it so much!" And I was like... Oh my... Thank you so much. 🥺 (She had curls herself too, but didn't know about the CGM).
I didn’t know my hair was curly until about one year ago.. And I also found out that my hair was sooooo damaged, not only by bleaching and dye it, also by just not using the right products! My hair went from a frizzy straight puff 2 wavy at the ends and now wavy/curly all the way up 2 the roots! And I know that one year isn’t the end result, after doing my hair sooo wrong it has 2 grow out completely before I get my dream curls.. But the curly girl method really helped and helps me 2 this day! And I’m sooo thankful for realizing that my hair may be curly! REALLY WISHED THAT THIS VIDEO WAS UP A YEAR AGO THO! IT WAS SOOO HARD, AND IT IS STILL A STRUGGLE 2 WASH IT AND CARE FOR IT WITH LOVE😂 it is a job girl, but hey, IT WORKS WONDERS😍😍😍😍
With your hair blow dried straight you looked good also ...I have to say that.. sometimes in communities/groups it's almost forbidden to say such things...like is you don't embrace your natural you. I think it has nothing to do with that... it's just change looks, do what you like that particular day, like when you want to go blonde or brown or red... like wearing the hair loose or in an updo. Just wanted to say this (I'm a wavy/curly as well) that the variety you can have is so nice.
I truly enjoyed this vid. I watched it twice to not miss a thing. I started the curly method in May (I'd say 23rd) 2018. And when you mention - it makes you embrace your natural beauty/appearance - I really identify with that. I have loved to see, say in a way, the ups and downs of this process. And I enjoy learning how I can make new looks. Not to say, my hair has never been damaged yet, I feel how my hair is extra healthy. To stop the ramble, I admire you Courtney! Much love🎈
You are not the only one Courtney. I have had several days that I didn’t want to do anything to my hair and people have complimented me or asked how I got my hair like that. There has even been I couple of times after swim practice when I was in high school that before I got home to shower, so my hair was a stringy chlorine filled, tangled mess and someone would compliment my hair.
I love your intro, it made me smile. The fairy tale narrative about how easy it would be to get curly hair. People with curls can totally relate. 😀 Courtney, your blue eyes are beautiful! Your hair color is perfect for them. 😀
I’m roughly at the same point as you, I’ve always known I have curly hair but I used to straighten it everyday! I agree with all ten things 100%! I even found myself finishing your sentences with you 😂. So thank you for this! And kudos on your journey! 💕
This is totally normal, what you are going though is called detox in which it means that all the bad things that you have in your hair is having a transition so it can be healthy, it starts in the beginning of the method... But trust me once your hair is cleaned from all the junk you had of products, your hair will be beautiful❤️ And more easy to control
That happened to me at first, too. The two biggest game-changers for me were waiting to SOTC until my hair was absolutely 100% dry, and adding protein (mostly in the form of Neutral Protein Filler drops in my stylers).
Oily (mostly new) curly girl here: I am so tired of people telling me to just scalp train and wash my hair less.... Washed my hair like twice a week during quarantine and omg.... The only thing it did is have me tolerate more oily roots lol. I do however find that the curls help to keep the oil at the roots and thus the grease is not visble as fast. So I got 1 extra day :D EDIT: PS: hoping that my hair will also be crazy healthy and fast growing :P
i just started like 3 days ago. my hair is wavy! some clumps look great but others fall from their form or turn completely straight (?) so i’m really struggling rn but hopefully i get it right one day!
I'm 42yo and last week had an epiphany about my hair.... it''s not straight but I always thought it was. 🤯 I have 1b curl pattern, which is why I have an odd flip at the end that flips different directions though the rest is mostly straight. My hair is shoulder length, thin, and fine, and now I look in the mirror and acknowledge and appreciate my curl pattern rather than my hair that never lays straight. Your last point really resonates with me. I feel so much lighter not being frustrated with my hair but embracing what God gave me. I've always wanted pretty hair but never wanted to invest much time. I'm considering CG to see what is possible. I appreciate your insight! ❤
I so wish I’d known this a couple years ago. I tried the curly girl method for a few months, purchased many many products and generally my hair looked bad. Day 2 hair was a disaster. My first curly girl cut and style looked great. Unfortunately, I could never recreate it. And I tried a lot, then gave up. Thank you for clearly explaining “wavy” and and acknowledging that when first beginning this, it will not look great for several months ago. I’m ready to start again and work with my wavy...not curly hair. I’m excited this time. 😀Thank You.
I think everyone should try using products with less chemicals in them. That's my favorite part about the CG method. My hair just loves your tips about aloe vera gel and the apple cider vinager. I haven't tried the flaxseed gel or the dark beer rinse yet. My biggest issue is the dryness and the inconsistency hair days. They are mostly bad. I would love to find the right products for my hair and a routine that works but it is exhausting to try and fail almost every time. I just don't understand what my hair wants and needs. I love your videos! 😍😘
I cut 3 inches off my hair and I have to say for me that it has helped my curls look better. Sure they still fo the flat thing (because I have baby fine hair), but yea I've been doing this for a few months and I love the way my hair looks
Hi just wanted to leave a comment about how grateful i am for your content. I’ve just discovered that my hair is not straight at all! I just bought all the products needed to go down the curly hair route and am really excited for the much needed change. Thank you!
Quarantine in the US has given me the blessing to try out curly girl method without having to go into work or out in public mucha nd for that I am beyond thankful. It sucks that it takes MONTHS for your curls to catch on but I am hoping it is sooo worth it in the end.
This is really encouraging! I started it a month ago and I almost quit because I would work so hard and then my waves/curls would just fall out! Also - my hair is so, so tangley and always has been like yours - so this gives me hope! Thanks! Also - your hair is beautiful!
I've been watching your videos for a long while, and truly following your methods the last 2 months or so. Took me so looooong to figure out I have FINE hair, it's just so dense because there's a lot of it. That made all the difference. So now I follow Courtney's techniques, and I love it! My hair is now much curlier, and I have some great Day 2 and even Day 3 hair. To refresh, I just use Cantu - my hair will really frizz out if I spray it with water, so just the Cantu curl refresh.
I’m on month 4; I have a really straight layer in the underneath of my hair; I had a few “good hair days” but for the last month there’s been non! Also I’ve had ridiculous amounts of frizz practically every day!
Hello there. I have started the Curly Girl Method and have been doing it for 7 months now. I have short hair that is at a bob length, but I will have to agree that at the 6 month mark is when I really noticed how much faster my hair has been growing and how much healthier it looks. I will agree that it is alot of work and I first was using alot of products and now I have thinned out some of my products, but still have alot and been taking care of my hair. I have had complete strangers come up to me saying how jealous they are of my hair and wanting to know who does my curls. When I tell them that this is natural and my hair grows like this, their eyes just get wide. My hair is a 3B style hair with low porosity and I need to keep it hydrated alot, otherwise it will frizz out. I am currently trying to look for a good CGM protein pack to help out my hair after I have tried coloring my hair and then stripping the color out, so I will not be coloring my hair like that again
I have literally JUST started CGM. I have been silicone free for about a year, but I always blow dry it straight. So I noticed that my natural curls were coming out more and more so I decided to give it a try. I thought it looked kinda ok, a bit meh but EVERYONE from my husband to my coworkers loves it! It's inspired me to keep going ;)
Yes! Thank you. I said what you said about self acceptance to a friend when I was debating letting my curls come back. She didn’t understand what I was trying to say. She has straight hair and is super confident in who she is already. I’ve straightened my hair for so long that I’m not sure it will curl again.... and I’m not certain I have the confidence to get through the long transition time....
I enjoy watching your videos! My hair is 2a and I’ve started almost 2 months ago. I’m still learning and my hair is still transitioning. I sometimes question myself if I made the right choice for my hair type. Btw I totally agree with you specially the last two points! ❤️
The last point honestly made me tear up. Im in the process of researching on the curly girl method so i can embrace my natural curls as well. I hope in a few months, i can finally tame my frizzy dead hair, into something ill love and be proud of :')
This is a great vid. I have wavy hair and I've always fought with it. I've been trying to encourage the wave and even what looks like curls in a few spots. I'm headed to Sally today to pick up a bunch of the things I've seen you use. The first day of my journey!!
I do like your video's. Everyone told me i had curls, but curls are what i see now as type 3 or 4, not that what i had. And then i learned about the curly girl method and learned that i have wavy hair. And that feels so much more comfortable than saying i have curls. Your videos help me understand the process better. I'm from the Netherlands and recently found out that another Dutch CG person gives personal CG workshops, where she looks at your hair and knows what products your hair needs. It feels like taking a short cut 😁. So next month I'm taking that workshop and see what my hair does.
Hey there! So have you started the Curly Girl Method? Have you taken the plunge? Do you think this whole process is worth it?
They don’t believe me half the time 😂
Omg me too. The face is priceless 😂😂😂
I got asked that the other day!
Oh my god I think I had only bad hair days for like three months now 😭😭😭 The humidity id terribly
Bro after watching the hair loss and scalp damage that is causing ppl I wouldn't even do it. It works for some but I'd be very careful you guys.
@@tlwest21 curly hair?
You can find Mel at @
Manes By Mel here on YT! Their are many others I watch on YT.
So worth it! My curls are better than it ever was. I would recommend this method to anyone who has textured hair.
🤗🤗🤗
Wow
If you’re watching this, play in 1.25 speed :)
thank you 😳
1.75 is also recommended
Thank you so much omg
Thank you
I put 1.5 speed lol
What a great message about the importance of accepting and loving yourself the way you are!
Your hair looks beautiful and very healthy.
Thank you!
@@sydney8145 I personally started when I started playing with hair gel, it was shocking to see my frizzy thick hair have little waves
Loving being a curly girl I feel so much more confident this is the best I’ve ever felt about my hair/myself🥰
Totally making my sisters turn curly too thanks for all the helpful videos Court!!
I love the message you've said about self acceptance. It is so inspiring to hear and I can't wait to start my curly girl method journey.
I’ve been wearing my hair natural (2b 2c) for 2 years now and I still love it! I’ve picked up so many good tips from you Courtney, thank you 🙏🏻👍
I have started my curly journey 3 washes ago,I have been going through tremendous damage to my hair,I used Brazillian hair treatment for 3 years straight,2022 was just a turn around for me.
Would LOVE to see the video about surfactants!!
Yup, me too!
Samw
Thank you for helping me along the way.🌸
All your videos about wavy hair helped me so much, thank you 🙏
I'm just starting my curly girl journey.
I’m only 2-3 months in but feeling hopeful
You've got this!!!
Me too! It's really hard some days. Day 2 and 3 are the worst! But my hair does seem healthier. I'm sticking with it.
@@jeanagarrett92 So nice to hear from someone else! My day 1 still isn't all that great haha. I'm coming from many years of hair straightening and dying though. My hair has definitely grown and is getting more manageable and healthy. Still a little scary leaving the house curly but I'm not giving up
You can do it!!!
They have been life savers for all my questions!
your hair, looks good. i like that you try all products and see if it works for your texture.
Thank you for this video! I love the quote from Psalms and the positive tips!
PS: I’d love the surfactant video!
I started following you when I had the same spiritual realization to love what God gave me. Your last statement was my thoughts almost exactly. Wow 🤯
Thank you for sharing all your hard work and knowledge with the rest of us God bless
Wow, i would love to see a video on surfactants 😍 there are so many with so different functions 🤦♀️ a little light would help a lot 🤗
Agree that strangers will compliment on bad hair days also. It’s very encouraging.
More knowledge is more power. YES to a video on surfactants!
Very inspiring, thank you! And your hair looks wonderfully shiny and beautiful!
I'm the same my hair just falls out. I know the curls are there it's just keeping them!!!
I would love to see a video about how to keep our hair and curls healthy at the beach
Your left side is only "less" voluminous because your part is so low. Making ur right side look "more" voluminous.
Much love🎈
Thank you so much for the encouragement 😘 just started my cgj last month 🌈 Love all the way from South Africa 🙏
Courtney, have you ever thought about doing a video on some of your up-dos?
Hi Courtney, you mentioned that after about 2 hours your waves would just fall apart. How did you fix this, was it just time? I have the same problem.
hey there. I have the same problem. I have curls in wet hair but they just won‘t hold. It is totally frustrating and I do not know what to do
M Bührle Have you tried using strong holding gel?
This is totally normal, what you are going though is called detox in which it means that all the bad things that you have in your hair is having a transition so it can be healthy, it starts in the beginning of the method... But trust me once your hair is cleaned from all the junk you had of products, your hair will be beautiful❤️ And more easy to control
@@maitelunna9451 this comment has given me hope thank you.
So I got 1 extra day :D
EDIT: PS: hoping that my hair will also be crazy healthy and fast growing :P
i just started like 3 days ago. my hair is wavy! some clumps look great but others fall from their form or turn completely straight (?) so i’m really struggling rn but hopefully i get it right one day!
Thank you!
Awe thank you so much!!! I am so glad this helped!
How is your hair now?
Yes, please do a video on the ingredients in the products. #10 was the best!
Mom TheCool I just use Cantu to refresh, I even keep a small container of it in my purse.
True true true!!! Been doing CGM for more than a year and it's JUST now starting to be more consistent - it takes FOREVER!
I’m on month 4; I have a really straight layer in the underneath of my hair; I had a few “good hair days” but for the last month there’s been non! Also I’ve had ridiculous amounts of frizz practically every day!
Had my best wash day ever yesterday!!! x
@@Nora-hw6nx Any updates?
I have been on the method for three weeks, and after 13 years of hair colouring I want to grow out my natural colour!
I’m a year and six months in and I can now go a week between washes and I’m so glad I stuck with it and didn’t give up.
I am just beginning to get started on this journey and I am so glad that I chose to watch this video
Something unexpected for me....getting asked if I've dyed my hair darker hahaha! That's because it's healthier!!!
And #10....YES!!! 🥰🥰
Saaame! 😍🙈
Yes!
I thought my hair was wavy throughout highschool but once I found out it was curly it’s got so much healthier!
The last point honestly made me tear up. Im in the process of researching on the curly girl method so i can embrace my natural curls as well. I hope in a few months, i can finally tame my frizzy dead hair, into something ill love and be proud of :')
I'm in 6th grade and I decided I wanted to get into the curly girl method a couple of months ago and I love my hair now!❤️ Ty!😘
