If you guys would watch the video before commenting, you could see I used the term “wavy” throughout the entire video. I personally think my hair is a mixture of mostly wavy and a few curly pieces! And for the title, I used “curly” because it is a broader term and wavy hair is still a curl pattern. 😊 thank you to those who have actually had something nice to say/sharing their own experience! I made this video so people can embrace their natural hair and take care of it differently, whether it be wavy, curly, or both. *other curly / wavy videos:* including my hair routine and what products I use!! ua-cam.com/play/PLd6It5U5PkZoUnO3dymLSW32abVa8UXSd.html
Nessa Drake I get where you’re coming from. But instead of getting defensive maybe you can try to understand why people get “butthurt” over this certain word? There is a much deeper meaning behind it than you may be aware. Not trying to start anything but wanted to point it out in case you were interested because I think I understand the underlying message you’re saying. Anyways, her hair is gorgeous and thank you for sharing the video!
1cakesz lol girl, it’s not that deep. People out here literally looking for a reason to be offended. And my hair is natural and curly, my blood pressure didn’t go up cause this girl with wavy hair said curly 🤣
Posted this already under another comment: I can explain to you guys (and Taylor) why these people want others to use correct terms for their hair. People with really curly or coily hair usually go through years of severe bullying by peers and sadly also family members/ care takers and teachers. We are pressured to straighten our hair and constantly reminded that we are less beautiful. I have become a victim of even physical attacks simply because of my curly hair. Media (especially films and ADS) always presents natural curly hair as ugly, frizzy and problematic while fake curls (so models with straight hair or wavy hair who were styled to have fake curls) are presented as beautiful. Even in relationships curl shaming is a real thing (my ex mentally and verbally abused me everyday over my curls reminding me how ugly natural curls are). This is something curly and coily girls go through a lot while people who fake their curls or who have straight/wavy hair do not go through all of this. At least not in that extend. Now when someone who does not have curly hair calls their hair curly it represend the media and our natural curly hair is directly compared to the "more beautiful" wavy/fake curly hair of others. It is dismissing our problems. All hair is beautiful but natural curls are not treated as such. Your wavy hair is beautiful and stunning, you can be proudly name it wavy. Wavy is not less or more beautiful than curly hair. Another comparisation: it is completely ok to draw fake freckles on your face! Just do not call them natural freckles. Do not lie, just label it as it is.
How can y’all get offended over HAIR?? Is there some sort of competition for who’s hair is the curliest? She shouldn’t be afraid to call her hair curly!! Please support her instead of tearing her down!!
I agree she has curly hair but it's not the curliest I dont see why people are so mad that she calls her hair curly when it is. Yall should be mad at people who take your hair type and let people compliment their perm when another curly heads hair isnt appreciated.
Briana Morales You’re not stating facts lmao. Curly hair is not just one traditional ringlet. It’s on a “spectrum,” and 2a-2c is wavy hair and 3a-3c is the traditional ringlet we see and 4a-4c is kinky/coily hair. But they’re all CURLY hair, waves are the loosest curls and the ringlets are just tighter, and the coils are hella mf tight. You guys are complaining and telling this girl what her hair is. It’s her hair and it’s clearly curly, to be more SPECIFIC, she has wavy hair which is in the sub-unit of curly. Just leave her alone, it’s just hair.
🙄 people are really trying it. Her hair is definitely curly/wavy. The straight hair era hit us all pretty hard lol. When I want my hair straight I pop on a wig now. I found out I have 3b/3C hair which is now past my shoulder blades. It took a lot of care and trims to get it to where it is. I used to get relaxers and ugh...my hair was so bad. So glad to see everyone taking better care of their crowns.
Amaris Belghiti I was forced to get relaxers until I was like 16. I’m 22 now and realized when I truly stopped using heat and dying it my hair is 4A. When I was natural but still dyed it and flat ironed often I thought my hair was 3B. I still get pushed to straighten my crown. Nope 🙅♀️
I can see that shes so hesitant to call her hair curly. But it is, just because your curls aren’t as tight don’t let any negative comments get to you, on you just trying to share your story. I have tighter curls then you and i have my back story with it as well, but your hair is gorgeous, I’m glad you found your natural pattern now!
Ashley Jimenez it’s probably in the Cs not A it is curly just because it isn’t a flipping Afro doesn’t mean it isn’t curly hair it is her mom and grandma is probably in the As so shush cause who cares if she doesn’t have a Afro I have curly hair but it is floppy and not a Afro but my hair is like in the Cs
Why is this a thing people care about? Wtf, people really want to feel so offended don’t they? They so deserately want to get any chance they can to wild out on stupid things. Wow, we’re really so spoiled, seriously.
Its not a negative comments to say someone hair is wavy, correct. But when you’ve been struggling with your hair for years and you’ve finally come to that point where your comfortable with your hair and how it looks naturally, it definitely hits home when people are sitting there with so many opinions on something thats not even on their head. Her hair is curly she has a combinations of textures. But no its not about being “sensitive”. Theres always been a huge divide between straight and textured hair, even when you’re in the textured hair community theres a divide about what curl patterns are the best ect.... when for years curly hair has been looked at as something that always needs to be “tamed” or put up to be seen as “put together” or even “professional” , there are much deeper roots to this then what u guys are just observing through a camera. In reality hair really means nothing but to our society it’s pivotal. PS: yo I’m mad late I didn’t even know this got a response eeeek🤣
It’s a bit petty for those who want to call you out on your “curly” or “wavy” hair, I don’t care what you call it, it looks so healthy and thank you for sharing! I’d love to see what you do on second, third, fourth, etc. day hair!
Taylor Laios ur hair looks so good and healthy and if u ask me it is pretty curly (everyone has different curl patterns) so just try to ignore the haters bc they obviously don’t know how hair works 🤣

@@milekmalik8368 This girl has straight up curly hair, I have wavy hair myself and would never call that curly, but it's petty to say that she can't call her hair curly (even though it is) because other people have been mistreated for having (a different type) of curly hair.
Yeah it’s like curl is a blanket term which can mean wavy, curly, coily/kinky. In this case she has a beautiful wave with some spirals but no one should hate on her for saying she has curls, because curls means so many different types of hair
I always see girls with “FRIZZY hair” and it’s sad you can tell they just DONT KNOW they have curly hair and/or how to care for it! I want to help them learn to care for their curls so bad 😩💕
i think i have frizzy hair but now i think maybe i dont how can i tell for sure, and what do i do? I've always hated my hair for how poofy it was and try to tie it back as much as possible.
Like im a boy but i had long hair. It was always very frizzy, poofy and thick until i bleached it. It was so damaged that i shaved all off and now i want to try if my hair has natural curls as my hair grow out xdd
This was my childhood. My mom had "Big, frizzy, and unmanageable" hair. Now learning how to take care of my hair type and embrace it's natural beauty 💞
I totally relate with the straight hairpocalypse period. Everyone around me had naturally silky straight hair while mine was a bushy mess. I used to get bullied for it and get asked if I even brush my hair (which I would do and make it worse). I begged my mom for a flat iron so I could conform to the straight hair beauty standard, but now I regret using it and damaging my hair. Now everyone including the same classmates who bullied me for my messy curls are curling their hair 🙄
Same here. I straightened my hair for a full year. I would brush it out. I showered nearly every day. I had completely forgotten I had curly hair, which is stupid because as a kid, I had curly 3b hair. Then I realised that I’m an idiot!
Naomi I have, sort of. I don’t invest in too many curly girl products, but I do have some good, silicon-sulphate free highly moisturising conditioner and some curly hair gel. I follow some of the curly girl rules as well. I’m just a little lazy. I’m assuming you’re following a stricter schedule than me, so how’s your hair going? Probably better than my uneven 2b-3c hair lol
@@sparksfly6149 For now I'm following the CGM strictly as a guideline before I fully figure out what my hair needs specifically. My hair is really damaged from heat/chemicals but so far it's been going pretty good; got nice waves and some ringlets but the results are a lil different each time. I've got 2b/2c and currently trying to transition to full 2c. I hope to get back my 3a curls and plan to give myself a year to see how far I can transition. I totally get what you mean by feeling lazy though. And it makes sense not investing in too many products because the work is tedious and pricey.
Naomi That’s a pretty smart idea. Find what works for you. Yeah, my hair was pretty damaged too. Even now it’s definitely not completely healthy. I straightened it, dry-brushed it, did everything you’re not supposed to. It’s nice to hear that your hair is going well then. 2b-2c is definitely a good start, keep going. A year sounds like a good amount of time to wait for your hair to become a bit healthier. Have you considered cutting it? And yeah products are so expensive, it’s not even funny. So right now, my routine is 1. Shower, shampoo + conditioner 2. Scrunch with a bit of conditioner, and then gel 3. Let dry, scrunch every now and then.
Queenie Vlogs I don’t have Asian hair but I do have pin straight hair. The only time my hair curls is when I put it in a bun and leave it like that until it’s dry.
I have 2a hair but I usually brush the waves out so it’s like straight-ish and frizzy because my natural hair is weird. It’s not like evenly wavy if that makes sense. Like some spots it’ll be really wavy and other spots it’ll be straight and it just doesn’t look good so I always just get frustrated and try to brush it all straight but then it’s just frizzy and weird. Lowkey hate my hair
I agree with you. Honestly, my hair was straight as a child. But when I was about 7, it started getting frizzy. I now have 2b, 3a curly hair after I was old enough to properly take care of it.
I’m white and my hair varies between a 3b and 3c. I’ve been trying to take care of it for almost two years however it’s still not he healthiest and I am in desperate need of a trim but all the hairdressers are shut :(
True for me lol. I always had straight hair down to my waist growing up, always brushed it when it was wet then went to bed. Senior year of high school I decided to do a big chop and cut off over a foot of hair (to just above my shoulders). After showering and letting it air dry without brushing it, I woke up the next day with crazy frizzy and curly hair (probably about as curly as this vid, but very thin fine hair). My hair never holds a curl when I use a curling iron so I was hella confused! I’ve switched to sulfate free shampoo and such and have started using some oils and gels to help keep my frizz under control and I’m so happy with my curls now 3 years later.
Having thin hair is such a struggle, my hair is one of the thinnest ever. Luckily my hair is wavy/curly so it looks thicker but there’s so many hairstyles I can’t do, my ponytails look so sad, and braids in general look kind of bad so yeah. Please think hair girls, appreciate your hair thickness 🙏🏻🙏🏻
@@josie7429 yeah but I can't even style it properly, like when i do a braid it's literally as thick as the diameter of a bottle cap and also, when I tie my hair some people think i'm balding because of how thin my hair is, even my mom used to say that my hair looked like rat fur
You lot are clearly stupid its obvious If someone has curly hair without knowing their hair would never be pin straight it would look like a Bush after brushing it just like hers. You lot wish doe lmaaooo
Kerene Smith 🤣😂😂 not literally we all just wanted the thinnest line of an eyebrow. An arched line the width of a single brow hair. There are some variation but like the basic idea.
I had no idea some caucasian people struggled with wanting pin straight hair too. I didn't know you guys used keratin as well. Smh every curly girl had struggled from 2c to 4c 😭💔 your hair looks so much better now and fits your face well.
Diamond Lincoln I’m telling you! I’m not fully white (mom is Native American and Hispanic. Dad is white). I was adopted by my dads parents so I grew up in a white household that releases my hair every month or so. I didn’t know I had curly hair until a few months ago when I was going to get a cut and the hairstylists mentioned that my roots were curling up. I’m in the process of getting my curls back to how they were when I was a baby! Right now I’m stuck in the wavy/stringy straight hair stage 😭
I feel like only recently I've found this curly community and it's changed my whole life. I grew up with a mama who knows NOTHING about how to treat curls, so only recently learned how to start treating my hair by watching black hairstylists. Most black women I've encountered have been super encouraging and helpful!! I'm so appreciative. I'm grateful that UA-cam has a community of curly girls now! I always felt like the only white girl who struggled with "bad" hair, and now at almost 30 I'm learning how to do my hair for the first time😳. My baby is 9 months old and I can already tell she's gonna be curly! I'm excited to be able to teach her what I've learned, and to love her curls😍
Yeah like a lot. Like people wanna bounce the spirals and you get called a sheep, a poodle, etc That’s why boys with curly hair shave lightly and girls straighten. It has to do with ur personality like a lot of people embrace it and have a pride in it. But if u are shy or awkward u will be made fun of by jerks or bullies.
I’m Puerto Rican but my race is white. I have really curly hair though and I’ve never really known what to do with it. I’ve always been jealous of girls with straight hair because it just seems so easy to manage.
Diamond Lincoln girl I would literally spend HOURS brushing my wet hair straight, then using heat to get it to stay straight, I even took my flat iron to school sometimes if I didn’t tie it up to hide the frizzy mess😭
I didn’t realize my hair was curly until quarantine hit and I stopped “caring” for it. Finally got out of bed after like 5 days of leaving it alone and I looked in the mirror like 👁👄👁 “wait a damn minute”
Wanna year my story? I was pretty dumb actually but I thought frizzy was a hair type until I searched up how to change from frizzy to sTrAiGhT and after scrolling for a bit there was a video with a before and after like mine. So yeah that’s basically how my journey started. Fiy I have curly hair like 3a
Yes I agree you don’t have to follow the curly girl method. There are a lot of rules and some of them might not work for everyone’s hair what you should do is what works for your hair and makes it feel and look good not what others are telling you to do.
Wavy is most definitely a curl type. The same way tighter or more “uniform” curly, coily, and kinky haired individuals appreciated seeing videos that they can recognize themselves in, others with similar experiences to Taylor’s appreciate her telling her story!! I remember finding out I had curly kinky hair. I’d only ever had my hair in stretched styles that I had no clue. I’m glad you discovered yours too, your hair looks beautiful 🥰🙏🏾.
I think MOST girls wanted their hair to be super straight in middle/high school... at least that’s how it was when I was still in school haha. (I went to 16 different schools because we moved every year, sometimes multiple times in a year). Seriously, almost every single girl in my yearbooks had long, straight hair. 😂 Now that I’m older, I’ll be 28 in October, I want my curly hair back! 😩 I’ve been dyeing and styling my hair with straighteners and curling irons since I was 12-13. I’m glad I found this video!
I don’t think people realise that curly is a synonym for wavy. People commenting on your video saying “your hair is actually wavy, not curly” would be like commenting on a video of someone with type 4 hair and saying “your hair is actually kinky, not curly”....
Wavy hair has an S type pattern and is normally almost straight looking. Curly hair has a spring like pattern. Kinky hair has a tighter curl, it's normally categorised as 'Type 4' hair. Saying her hair is not curly isn't a bad thing. It's BEAUTIFUL. Saying someone's hair is kinky also isn't a bad thing. But there is a difference between curly and wavy
@You Mad? you think I'm the one obsessed? You told someone to stfu because you disagreed with something they said which was correct, just admit you're wrong and move on child
Okay but can we talk about how she won the gene lottery like wow her grandmother and mother are so pretty and she looks like a doll. I could *NEVER* with my potato looking self
wavy, curly, coily, kinky- all makes for 2,3,4 type curl patterns. They’re all still classified as curly hair:) also, her hair most definitely has a curl pattern- it’s not just straight with bends- her curl pattern just happens to be looser (and beautiful!)
Racheal.m Banjoko I understand what your saying but I’m just confused as to how wavy hair is curly. I’m not tryna be rude. I’m just asking. I get that it’s a pattern of hair but doesn’t wavy fall under its own category and not curly?
Lauren no, wavy hair is a degree of curl. Curly is an umbrella term. Personally I think wavy not curly starts at waves you’d see in sleek pin straight type hair, the kind you get from braiding said hair texture, some girls have that braided wave look naturally but that’s just the only way I can describe the waved. There’s a stark difference between braid waves and this girls hair texture.
GIRLLL i think every girl with textured hair can relate to wanting the silky thin straight hair. i REALLY abused my hair growing up, as in showering and flat ironed my hair nearly EVERY DAY from 6th grade-12 grade!!! in between daily regimen of flat ironing, i would box dye my hair occasionally. i even cut it all off to a pixie and was still abusive AF to my hair! all i wanted was straight hair and that's exactly how i treated mine. so far, it's been about a year of finally just letting my hair do its thing and trying out different methods and so far i am loving it. probably going to get a big chop for the summer tho because the ends are still somewhat damaged. i would love to see what my hair can do super short!
My deaf cat max and other forms of creative fun Who knew that the texture of your hair affected someones personality? People with non-straight hair seem to always have to insult people with straight hair to feel good about themselves and its sad.
blake it’s crazy how differently people view things based on what they have. I have pin straight hair that absolutely will not curl ever and all I’ve ever wanted is to be able to curl my hair and have it stick for the whole day. Or even a few hours. But I do understand that I’m very fortunate for the hair I have. It’s straight and silky natural and I think it’s all due to not using heat on my hair because there is literally no point, nothing ever happens.
I just discovered my wavy hair today, so I want to say THANK YOU for making this video! My mom has waves too, but her solution is to flat iron her hair into submission. It'll be such a treat to see where mine goes with a little TLC!
my mom's solution is to get her hair keratin treated (she's been doing this for years now, and also flat ironed my hair when i was a kid sometimes) and my grandma hates her curls and wrestles it in neat braids. sigh, it's no wonder it took me until now to figure out what my hair type is!!! i just thought my hair sucked majorly, and even now my mom doubted that my 2b/2c waves are natural waves when i showed em to her the first time. 😂 mannn
GIRL. Thank you so much for this video!!! I’ve hated my “frizzy straight” hair my whole life. It’s been such a source of insecurity for me. and when I saw your before and after in the thumbnail I realized that your before pic looks so much like my hair. Today I washed it for the first time without brushing or towel drying it, and I gave it a little bit of scrunch with a curl cream and BOOM. Nice, shiny 2a hair. Holy shit, my hair is wavy! So today starts my journey to learn to work with+embrace it. :)
Kristine Godoy it IS that serious for a lot of people bullied for curly or kinky hair and pressured to straighten it (not only black people, hispanics and whites as well). but i agree her hair is curly even if it It's not as tight as others would consider curls. it's like when you stretch out your slinky
When I was young my hair was naturally straight but as I went through puberty it became like your curls. I never used heat but I would brush it like you and would end up with nasty frizzy hair. Finally, I realized that if I didn’t brush it, scrunched it, and used really lightweight and moisturizing products my hair would be smooth and curly. Unfourtunetly I dyed my hair last year which ruined my curl pattern so I had to cut it to my shoulders. It’s getting there...
"Yes, I literally wanted thin, straight hair when I was in middle school." Yup. I'm the same age as you, and I remember that straight hair rave. I remember asking my hairdresser at the time to make my hair "wispy." Ugh!!!
Meanwhile as a straight haired girl i would go to the hairdresser to perm mine curly. Never worked. After one wash my hair was as straight as an uncooked spaghetti again...
GIRLLLL WE HAVE LIKE THE SAME HAIR JOURNEY! I remember straight hair being the thing in middle school and me wanting it! I am so mad at myself for waking up EVERY MORNING using heat to straighten my hair! I also got my hair messed up with bleach and it was like all yellow so bad! I paid multiple times to get toner in it and it always faded out :(
As an 18 y/o black girl who just discovered her real curl pattern (4b/c) just 3 years ago after years of hair processing, I'm so proud of girls like you. Happy for this new revelation that us curly/coily girls are getting. Keep doing what you do b! 💕🙌🏽👏🏽
You're my hair idol! I'm 13, and im currently going through a crisis with my hair. I brush my hair out after showering at night, and of course every time it becomes frizzy. I know I have natural curl, but when I scrunch my hair I end up with messy frizzy curls. I hope to find products to fix it, but I'm currently in a financial situation where I can't buy anything. For now, I'm stuck with this mess!
If you're looking for curly girl approved shampoo/conditioners I use Suave Essentials Tropical Coconut. A family sized bottle is $2. Also using a regular cotton tshirt as a hair towel helps too!
aw you’re too sweet!! theres a lot of curl products at the drug store that are really affordable and great too! You just have to find what works for you. Also your curl pattern will probably change
I’m right at that transition stage you’ve mentioned but i’m having a really rough time managing it and finding my curl pattern which is pretty similar to yours. i’d love to see a video on why you don’t like the curly girl method and what products and treatments you use in your hair instead. love you xx
I went through EVERY single thing you told in this video, I am amazed, and I never met no one like me before. The only difference is that I have thin hair. Even the half blond hair experience I had. Glad we are in this stage right now :) I may have my hair flattened not even once per year and I get ancious the next day to wash it off and have my natural waves back.
Even I felt the same way!!!! My hair texture started to changing when I was in my teens and one point I was soo frustrated because I shouldn’t understand what was going on with it but eventually I learned how to accept it and I am still learning a lot about my hair and how to take care of it
I’ve never met anyone in my life with the same amount of hair on my head. Now seeing this video knowing you and your mom do makes me feel a little more normal! Every stylist would makes the “3 heads of hair” comment. I’ve always assumed my hair could be curly but I’ve spent all my life straightening that I’m not sure. I’m hoping to discover what my hair’s potential is now that I’ve embraced its thickness.
this and your hair care video have helped me so much. i noticed my hair was drying curly about 8 months ago (i’ve always had pin straight hair) and didn’t do anything about it, but now it’s getting longer and curlier (and frizzier), and i want to take care of it the right way and see what my hair is supposed to look like. my dad also noticed his hair develop a curl pattern around the age i am so i’m not surprised, but and his hair is so curly so i’m excited to see what my hair will look like if i take care of it right ! thank u so much for making these ♡
I relate to this so much! I also used to brush my hair like crazy and never knew/wanted to recognise I had curls until after high school. Now I’m trying to find ways for it to be healthy again, but the years of brushing and straightening really took its toll. It’s such a shame that I didn’t realise the beauty of curls back then as people made fun of my wild, frizzy hair, but now I’m embracing them more than ever ☺️ thanks for sharing your story! Your hair looks amazing ♥️
This made me smile. I am in my 30s now, but your story was exactly like mine. I didn't know why my hair was poofy and the girls in my school had this thin straight hair. I love that you made this video! I wish UA-cam had existed back when I was in school just for this ha ha. Your hair is beautiful :)
Straight hair is nice every once in a while but there is nothing like some hair with a wave, curl, frizzle, frazzle, razzle and dazzle. It’s so pretty. Good for you!
omg I went through almost the e x a c t same thing - middle school straightening, crying over bad frizzy buns, and having no idea that my grandma, aunts, and mom ALL have lots of fine, curly hair like mine! now i'm lowkey horrified that they purposely blow-fried away the curl pattern (and always acted like that was a GOOD thing (and was what I was destined to do)! I'm so glad to finally be learning how to properly care for and wear my natural texture. it's crazy that it took me this long, but it's even crazier that my aunt is just finally coming to love her natural curls in her 60s - fun to exchange ideas/products/etc. with her though!
I am literally so thankful she posted this. I am in high school and my mom did the same thing hers does. She always just straightened my hair and the curl pattern was bad on my hair. I just recently learned how to take care of my hair and I am still trying to figure it out because I just recently learned how to actually defined my curls.
Beauty standards since we are young no matter what ethnicity broadcast that sraight long hair is idolized. Media also widely portrays that with lack of representation for differences. Most people are guilty of generalization thinking curls and or waves only happen for people that look a certain way. Society brainwashes and shames those who begin to embrace their hair. Their comes a time when you begin to love yourself and better yourself for who you are and not attempt to assimilate to the norm and are still judged and scrutinized. For instance those blatantly trying to prove her wrong in this video or twisting her words. I think her embracing her curl pattern is beautiful it goes to show that she is embracing who she is without conforming. Her curls represent confidence and self love.
i’m so glad i found this channel because i never had any friends that had this type of hair. I have the same hair as you and it was always super frizzy and i would just always put it in buns becuase i didn’t know what to do with it. the only friends that had curly hair had like 4c hair and couldn’t really help me with my exact type. but i’m so glad i found a youtubed with the same hair ❤️❤️❤️💕💕
Ok so as a kid I had *STRAIGHT THIN* hair and as I got old it got *CURLY AND THICK* me and my mom didn't know how but now I have thic curly hair that idk how to take care of it since I do brush my curls out idk why but it make it look bad and wavy so ty for all the info cause I did NOT know how t take care of this *mess* !
“My hair wasn’t at a level that you could tone” girl she lied to you 😂 their are toners for every hair level, and you were about a 7, so she DEFINITELY could’ve toned it smh
the hairdresser shouldve left it on for a bit longer, then tone, her hair wasnt at the right level to tone to the kind of way she wanted it, theres definitely not a toner for each level of hair
It happened to me too. I didn't know I had curly hair and I always brushed it used the wrong products an my hair was thick and frizzy just like yours, I hated them but then a couple of months ago I let my hair air dry and I didn't brush them and they were wavy😮. Now I use the right products and they look sooo much better Thanks for sharing your story I thought I was the only one😊😘
Thank you for this video 😭😭😭 I somewhat always know I have wavy hair, but because everyone around me taught me to take care of my hair by dry brushing it, that's what I've been doing my whole 20-ish years of life. I literally just found of about wavy/curly hair routines a few weeks ago and started it right away but got sooo frustrated because my hair still looks all frizzy and unkempt and nothing like beautiful curls I watched on youtubers videos although I've done all the exact same routines. This video of yours make me realize that I need to be patient, that it's normal because I'm just starting, that my hair needs time to be healthy and grow curl patterns naturally again, that it's gonna take months and years of care until I can hopefully grow curls as beautiful as yours. 💛💛💛
Wow it's really encouraging to see that your hair at some point had very loose waves to it. I assumed that most people with beautiful waves like you always had the same curl pattern you have now just maybe a bit looser. My hair looks exactly like yours when you note that you just had figured out that you had a curl pattern; I thought that I was doomed to always have weak waves! You are so so beautiful by the way- just breathtaking!
Wahoo! You have the same "problem" as for me, I have a lot of hair = big volume and my hair was when I was young curly like English curls and then until I was in high school, they were straight/smooth, and now they are curly but I don't know yet how to give them a good look healthier. But I'm gonna follow your advice and see what it does 😊 so thank you to share your hair journey
Anyone else’s hair do that thing where it has barely any wave and looks low-key straight but outta nowhere it gets much wavier like Taylor’s without having to do much?? No.. just me? Ok
I just wanted you to let you know thank you so much. I am 39 years old and I just realized I have curly/wavy hair. I really appreciate this video. It makes me feel so much better I thought for years that I had just frizzy hair that it was terrible. Thank you.
@@seohyunkim39 its easier to identify the different categories of hair so people can take care of their hair. Back in the day everyone called hair that wasnt straight curly but as we evolved we added more names to better classify the different hair textures, like wavy for example. That's why the Andre Walker hair typing system was created, it was made to better classify the hair (straight, wavy, curly, kinky) type 1 being straight, type 2 wavy, type 3 curly and type 4 kinky, then in each type it goes from a b c which categorizes the severity of how straight/wavy/curly/kinky their hair is. For example I have curly hair (3b to be exact) and if I was looking on UA-cam for a video on how to take care of curly hair and a bunch of people with wavy hair pop up, that routine wouldnt work or help me cause my hair is curler and likewise with every other hair type. It just makes everything a whole lot easier, especially for people that dont know how to take care of their hair type. Hopefully that was easy to understand
Zoe See : I’m sorry to disagree with you but my experience with “Curl Types” has been unhelpful in my CHJ. The visual presentation of hair varies (as does strand thickness, strand textures, overall volume, hair length, style products and techniques used, porosity, etc.). Even bad cuts can “spoil” Curl pattern or make it less obvious. According to the “Curl Type Chart” my hair is probably 2B/2C-ish, but I also have obvious, well defined ringlets characteristic of type 3 hair in the back of my head. My hair is long right now and it’s curlier when it’s shorter if it’s cut well. I have high porosity hair, very “thirsty” and I routinely use products intended for types 3 and 4 hair. Type 2 products leave my hair dry, frizzy and “rough” to the touch. The “Curl Typists” probably mean well but their system doesn’t hold water. It also appears like some are a bit “snobby” about their “Curl privilege” and want to exclude curly girls who don’t meet their pretended “standards” for “real” curls.
Girl, I haven't related to anyones hairstory as much as yours, we have the exact same hair type, and to see that someone else has struggled with the same puffy thick hair problem, while all your friends has straight sleek beautiful hair, it's so annoying, but I have also come to a stage where I have figured out my hair, I wash it once a week, I never brush it, use all the good stuff, hair mask, good conditioner, oils, and my hair has never been better, so sis, so glad to hear your story! Your hair is soo beautiful❤
I just wanted to thank you for your videos about your hair! It’s such a relief to find someone with similar curl pattern. I had straight thin hair up until I hit puberty then my hair got thick and really wavy and I was totally clueless on what to do with my hair. I’d just brush it dry and it would end up like yours. I eventually learned to just start brushing my hair in the shower and it would still get some curls but it was still overall messy looking. Since discovering your channel nearly two months I’ve started my curly hair journey and my hair looks so much better and defined. Thank youuu 🥺💛
Finally a video from someone who has hair similar to mine (but I am more 2a-2b, but I have just started my journey, so maybe it'll become better) I also realized that I like my waves 100500 times more than any other style, and feel so lucky to be able to wear them every day with no need to use a curling iron or other time consuming techniques
I totally have the same experience! I always thought my hair was straight and just wonky in back and frizzy when I dried it. And now I've figured out I'm wavy and I'm excited now that I've started a journey to care for my hair right and enhance my natural wave. Thanks for your video ☺️
Ok, she’s literally so beautiful and her hair is my goals! I’ve only ever had straight hair my whole life and would literally LOVE to have hair like hers! It’s so thick and beautiful😭😍😍
Your curl pattern is pretty much exactly the same as mine. I didn't know I had curly hair, either..lol Like you, I spent years using the flatiron and felt like I was always fighting a losing battle. When I started doing research on how to get my hair to grow and stopped using heat, that's when I realized I have curly hair! What products do you use? Most of the curl creams I have tried are too heavy for my hair. Your hair is beautiful!
My mind is blown. I shaved my head at 15 years old because my hair was just like yours. I've kept a buzz cut for 6 years and have been growing it out for the past year (almost to my shoulders now). My hair was just as fluffy and frizzy and I hated it. As my hair has been growing out I noticed some natural curl (because it was so short I wasn't brushing it). So I started using some curling mousse and saw improvement. I accidentally discovered my curly hair kind of like you did. Now I'm learning how to actually take care of my hair and I think/hope it'll end up like yours now that I actually know how to manage my "Merida" hair. I'm so excited!
Giirl!! I can totally relate. I am not a fan of the curly girl method either. And I'd recommend to anyone to please try different products, try silicones, figure out the best routine for your hair, on your own. Every hair type is different and me having 3b to 3c hair, I've grown up with curly hair, I had it all my life so I had a couple more years to try out what really helps my hair instead of following a questionable routine someone came up with, that suddenly blew up.
My 13yr old babygirl has beautiful natural curls. She gets fustrated because one side is very less curly. I'm glad you mentioned the brushing, I have constantly and constantly told her NOT to brush hair, to use the big comb for curly hair & also when hair was beyond the most natural beautiful curliest was when she didnt even brush it nor comb it. She also desires straight hair, but I told her to embrace her natural beautiful hair& i also mentioned to her that most of us gals just want the opposite of what we have, lol! I have straight fine boring hair, curls don't last on my hair more than past 15mins, even perm dont stay after 2weeks, and hairspray wont even hold my hair... but I have learned a few tricks here and there to give some volume naturally. I luuuv natural curly hair♡ but I have learned all of us gals have our own hair beauty& just have to figure out the right touches to naturally bring out that beauty shine out🥰💖 your hair is so beautiful & amazing, luv your volume& curls💖💖💖🌺🍃
aw, this made me so happy. i LOVE seeing girls find & appreciate their curls. i was a lil skeptical at first by the title, with the word “curl” in there. only because a lot, not all, white girls *I* know have zero curl & will just scrunch their hair with mouse & call it curly. but after watching.. wow, you have for sure always had curly hair & the thought of you brushing your curls when younger makes me cringe ngl. my heart hurts for those curls😹 you & your hair are beautiful! 😻
That's EXACTLY how I felt for the longest. Now I finally found out how to take care on my naturally curly hair...glad I found someone with the same curl pattern as me :)
y’all are literally putting so much effort into deciding wether she has “curly” or “wavy” like sis -.- let her be 😂 regardless it LOOKS GOODT. those are most definitely, curls. idk who looks at that and says *oh wow! look at your waves today they look so pretty* because it’s not ringlets? it’s not considered curls? what the fuck 😂
Curls are curls, waves are waves. Theres a reason why they are 2 different words. Nothing wrong with wavy hair, it's just misleading for the curly girls coming to this video expecting to see somebody with their hairtype.
Sone Foreva I get what you mean but based off her thumbnail you would see the *type* of curl she is referring too so it wouldn’t be misleading. at the end of the day her hair does curl. these are curls. look up waves and curls and she is considered to have curly hair, it doesn’t have to be “ringlets” “tight curls” “curls at the roots” etc to be considered a curl. now we have a bunch of girls with her hair type hesitant to call their hair curly because someone on the internets going to tell them it’s not curly. the logic i see down this video is compelling af.
@@Amorazula the definiton of curl is: noun 1. something in the shape of a spiral or coil, especially a lock of hair. "her blonde hair was a mass of tangled curls" So yeah no, its not curly because those aren't spirals or coils. If it's not a spiral or coil it's not a curl. Even if is not that misleading, people will start being confused about their hairtype if we keep spreading misinformation like this. I don't get why people get so defensive either when we explain that their hair is wavy and not curly, like curls are not superior to waves or anything. If anyone is hesitant about their hairtype then just look up the hair type chart and defintions and thats it. It's not like anoyone is suffering because their hair is wavy and not curly, it's not that dramatic lol.
Sone Foreva wavy is still considered from the curl family though... as a 2B diagram would show. it seems odd for people to get so meticulous on a curl or wave. she isn’t misleading anyone. when she put both “curl and wave” because everyone clearly has their own opinion on her hair. no ones being dramatic lol except for the people knit picking her hair. when she’s just explaining her personal hair journey story.
@@Amorazula Where did you get that information from? A curl is a spiral. If it's not then it's not a curl or from some "curl family" that literally makes no sense, sorry. It's not a species, it's literally a hair shape and texture. Look at the defintion of curl. If it is anything besides the defintion then it is not that. You can't just listen to what some curl blogger tells you and look at that as a fact. Her hair is clearly wavy and not going into spiral so yeah it is misleading to put "curly" in the title since her hair is not that, even if she added in "wavy". The people "knit picking" are just saying facts it's not an attack in anyway.

Taylor Laios I hate how butthurt people get because of a damn word, it’s ridiculous
People are so toxic. We can clearly see what your hair looks like from the thumbnail. If it doesn't help them they can choose to not click on it.

Right?! This whole family is GORGEOUS
Thank you!
Briana dude hers isn’t an s shape, it’s a C meaning it’s under the category of curly
I heard from a video wavy hair just have looser curls
Nope 🙅♀️
Amaris Belghiti yeah i feel the same. Wtf the said she did not know her hair was curly
Wavy.
You're so beautiful
@@_bewitchedbyyaz keep ur pretty curlssss
I can see that shes so hesitant to call her hair curly. But it is, just because your curls aren’t as tight don’t let any negative comments get to you, on you just trying to share your story. I have tighter curls then you and i have my back story with it as well, but your hair is gorgeous, I’m glad you found your natural pattern now!
MisfortunateRose it's wavy hair. Her hair is not curly. Her hair is wavy around 2/A or 2B not curly
The-pastel-peach nobody said anything about an Afro
PS: yo I’m mad late I didn’t even know this got a response eeeek🤣
seems like wanting to have straight hair in middle school is a universal experience
ikr I’m in middle school (7th) and every girl wants it even I wanted it a few months ago I started this.

Omg true and now im regretting it. I wish i had just loved my natural curls
It’s a bit petty for those who want to call you out on your “curly” or “wavy” hair, I don’t care what you call it, it looks so healthy and thank you for sharing! I’d love to see what you do on second, third, fourth, etc. day hair!
ugh it’s so annoying!! I don’t even know why it matters to people 🙄 but thank you!! I will def film a hair refreshing video :)

I’m 36 and I’m just now learning this
This was my childhood. My mom had "Big, frizzy, and unmanageable" hair. Now learning how to take care of my hair type and embrace it's natural beauty 💞
My mom has curls, and I have my moms hair. It’s wavy and I know that it could be curly but I don’t know how to encourage it. Could you help?
@@sparksfly6149 Have you tried the curly girl method thing to restore your curls? I've just started a month ago.
Naomi
I have, sort of.
Naomi
That’s a pretty smart idea.

Welp.. I'm not white nor black. •-•
I agree with you. Honestly, my hair was straight as a child. But when I was about 7, it started getting frizzy. I now have 2b, 3a curly hair after I was old enough to properly take care of it.
I’m white and my hair varies between a 3b and 3c. I’ve been trying to take care of it for almost two years however it’s still not he healthiest and I am in desperate need of a trim but all the hairdressers are shut :(
I’m white and a trained hairstylist and I had no idea my hair was curly 😂 I think I need a refund for those years I spent in college

“Don’t attack me.” 😂😂 poor girl. She definitely has CURLS.
@@yuhrely No honey, you have waves. She has CURLS. Don't speak on what you don't know.

@Yuhrely you know there are different types of curls right? lmfao
Why are we arguing over here about if someone has curls or not

Wanna year my story? I was pretty dumb actually but I thought frizzy was a hair type until I searched up how to change from frizzy to sTrAiGhT and after scrolling for a bit there was a video with a before and after like mine. So yeah that’s basically how my journey started. Fiy I have curly hair like 3a
Legit same here. I'm finding more and more of my hair just curling naturally and it's so weird especially since no one in my family has curly hair.
@@coloradorose8559 me too!!! I had straight hair but now I have curly one!
Your hair is beautiful!!!
♥️
I think MOST girls wanted their hair to be super straight in middle/high school... at least that’s how it was when I was still in school haha. (I went to 16 different schools because we moved every year, sometimes multiple times in a year). Seriously, almost every single girl in my yearbooks had long, straight hair. 😂 Now that I’m older, I’ll be 28 in October, I want my curly hair back! 😩 I’ve been dyeing and styling my hair with straighteners and curling irons since I was 12-13. I’m glad I found this video!
Wow 16 different schools?????
Beautiful hair! But GIRL, YOUR FACIAL STRUCTURE 😭 you're gorgeous!
thank youu 🥺😭

@@camii6053 Her everything
It’s not a synonym but ok. Curly is tight or quite loose ringlets. Wavy is just a S pattern.
I have 4c hair. I know it's kinky, not curly. Her hair is wavy, not curly. They're not synonymous. You're wrong but okay
@You Mad? hate is correct
@You Mad? you think I'm the one obsessed? You told someone to stfu because you disagreed with something they said which was correct, just admit you're wrong and move on child

wavy, curly, coily, kinky- all makes for 2,3,4 type curl patterns. They’re all still classified as curly hair:) also, her hair most definitely has a curl pattern- it’s not just straight with bends- her curl pattern just happens to be looser (and beautiful!)
So are you saying that all hair that is not straight is curly?
Lauren she literally said wavy, curly, coily and kinky those are types of curls. So yes kinda? But she isn’t wrong.
@@laurenhuq but this girl has curls!!
GIRLLL i think every girl with textured hair can relate to wanting the silky thin straight hair. i REALLY abused my hair growing up, as in showering and flat ironed my hair nearly EVERY DAY from 6th grade-12 grade!!! in between daily regimen of flat ironing, i would box dye my hair occasionally. i even cut it all off to a pixie and was still abusive AF to my hair! all i wanted was straight hair and that's exactly how i treated mine. so far, it's been about a year of finally just letting my hair do its thing and trying out different methods and so far i am loving it. probably going to get a big chop for the summer tho because the ends are still somewhat damaged. i would love to see what my hair can do super short!
blake Thin? I can understand wanting silky and straight hair but I cant recall anyone ever wanting thin hair
Nah i have always been very happy with my wavy curly hair. Girls with straight hair are boring.
My deaf cat max and other forms of creative fun Who knew that the texture of your hair affected someones personality? People with non-straight hair seem to always have to insult people with straight hair to feel good about themselves and its sad.
Karynna Hill ok take it how you will. Get offended by some random on the internet. Must be so bored . 🍼🍼🍼🍼🍼🍼🍼🍼🍼
blake it’s crazy how differently people view things based on what they have.
I just discovered my waves a week ago....and I’m fortydamnthree years old! 🤦🏻♀️😂 I just thought I had weird hair.
wats TLC?
Tender loving care
my mom's solution is to get her hair keratin treated (she's been doing this for years now, and also flat ironed my hair when i was a kid sometimes) and my grandma hates her curls and wrestles it in neat braids. sigh, it's no wonder it took me until now to figure out what my hair type is!!! i just thought my hair sucked majorly, and even now my mom doubted that my 2b/2c waves are natural waves when i showed em to her the first time. 😂 mannn
Basically: don’t brush your hair unless it’s wet *biggest key*
Andrew V and avoid using heat!! *bigger key*
Wait? Don't brush it UNLESS it's wet? I thought you weren't supposed to brush it wet?
it can be damaging but with curly hair brushing it dry is a lot worse so get a wet hair hairbrush
Abby Mee oh ok thank you!
The type of brush used is also important.

Curly haired people get so pressed. Like calm down. Wavy is a type of curl. Also her hair looks curly to me.
Sarah B it’s really never that serious
Kristine Godoy it IS that serious for a lot of people bullied for curly or kinky hair and pressured to straighten it (not only black people, hispanics and whites as well). but i agree her hair is curly even if it It's not as tight as others would consider curls. it's like when you stretch out your slinky
Ok sure

When I was young my hair was naturally straight but as I went through puberty it became like your curls. I never used heat but I would brush it like you and would end up with nasty frizzy hair. Finally, I realized that if I didn’t brush it, scrunched it, and used really lightweight and moisturizing products my hair would be smooth and curly. Unfourtunetly I dyed my hair last year which ruined my curl pattern so I had to cut it to my shoulders. It’s getting there...
Coloring curls damage them? Well there goes my only life plans-
Blacktea Shots only for some. I’ve dyed my hair 3 or 4 times in the last year and it’s still pretty healthy and has kept its pattern. I’ve got 3a/3b
Blackmae MM my hair is really prone to damage and gets split ends easily so your hair could be totally fine if you dye it
Burnt Potato yeah my hair is damaged easily

Try combing your hair only before going into the shower never after! That helps a lot!!!
If you're looking for curly girl approved shampoo/conditioners I use Suave Essentials Tropical Coconut. A family sized bottle is $2.
Also using a regular cotton tshirt as a hair towel helps too!
If you can't buy anything just buy some coconut oil or she butter and moisturize those curls
aw you’re too sweet!! theres a lot of curl products at the drug store that are really affordable and great too! You just have to find what works for you. Also your curl pattern will probably change

How do u look after ur hair now?
Honestly your hair is like the prettiest how could you ever be jealous of straight hair

Dear triggered people in the comment section. Curly and Coily are 2 different things. Please stop being offended
@The Ballad Of The Queen you can have curly and wavy mixed texture.
@Avery Charlton different curl patterns means what exactly. what makes something similar or different ?
Coils are a type of curls.
Finally a video from someone who has hair similar to mine (but I am more 2a-2b, but I have just started my journey, so maybe it'll become better)
I also realized that I like my waves 100500 times more than any other style, and feel so lucky to be able to wear them every day with no need to use a curling iron or other time consuming techniques
You should totally do more hair videos!! As a fellow curly girl, I looove seeing them! ♥
I totally have the same experience! I always thought my hair was straight and just wonky in back and frizzy when I dried it. And now I've figured out I'm wavy and I'm excited now that I've started a journey to care for my hair right and enhance my natural wave. Thanks for your video ☺️
Can you tell me how to or which products you use because I just figured out a bit ago and have no idea on what to do
Ok, she’s literally so beautiful and her hair is my goals!
Thank you!! I have a full routine with all my products already on my channel 🥰ua-cam.com/video/wb_KykAIqvQ/v-deo.html
So are we going to talk about how she is in a picture with Ariana Grande!?
You’re absolutely lovely❤️ thick hair is a blessing
aw, this made me so happy. i LOVE seeing girls find & appreciate their curls. i was a lil skeptical at first by the title, with the word “curl” in there. only because a lot, not all, white girls *I* know have zero curl & will just scrunch their hair with mouse & call it curly. but after watching.. wow, you have for sure always had curly hair & the thought of you brushing your curls when younger makes me cringe ngl. my heart hurts for those curls😹 you & your hair are beautiful! 😻
That's EXACTLY how I felt for the longest. Now I finally found out how to take care on my naturally curly hair...glad I found someone with the same curl pattern as me :)
Can somebody see that she has a photo w Ariana Grande?!

Yes we're not blind
y’all are literally putting so much effort into deciding wether she has “curly” or “wavy” like sis -.- let her be 😂 regardless it LOOKS GOODT. those are most definitely, curls. idk who looks at that and says *oh wow! look at your waves today they look so pretty* because it’s not ringlets? it’s not considered curls? what the fuck 😂
@@Amorazula the definiton of curl is:
noun
1.
something in the shape of a spiral or coil, especially a lock of hair.
"her blonde hair was a mass of tangled curls"
So yeah no, its not curly because those aren't spirals or coils.
It’s like looking into a mirror if only I had realized it sooner I’m happy to have your videos to help me on my wavy/curly hair journey
imagine if you did not accidentally fall asleep😂
We need more love for wavy hair
Korean girl passing by: Her natural waves are gorgeous..and you're sayin this isn't curly hair..? (hair literally looks like silk)
