Corvette guys don't care about GTRs while GTR fanboys jump all over corvette vids trying to prove something. Its easy to tell what car is better by that act alone.
Agreed. Mario Andretti loves corvettes so much he owns both a Z06 and ZR1. Corvettes will keep winning races...Lemans, Tudor etc and still maintain 100k miles without problems as a daily driver. Best car ever made those idiots have never driven one and probably dont follow motorsports.
Harder suspension, less ECU limit, closer gearing, lighter, more downforce, steering respond and wider frame for the C6.R. 138more hp mean nothing without that.
@lemobile2 I read that article. They also tested a Porsche, Ferrari, and Aston Martin in street and track trim. The AM had the widest margin between the street and track versions. I particularly liked how evenly matched they were. True validation that the Vette is indeed both a world-class sports car and a world-class race car.

I've been wondering exactly this question regarding the C7R and the C7 Z06
@TheHm3 I don't think there will be much of a difference with the C7 compared to older gen versions in terms of straight line performance but apparently the suspension setup will be better. With regards to the ZR1, you need to modulate the throttle carefully to avoid sliding and wheelspin. The GTR does most of that work for you. You still need skill to drive the GTR but not nearly as much.
@sodazman What are your thoughts on the expected Corvette C7 in 2012. It's expected to be 5.5 liter v8 at 440 horsepower. How do you expect it to perform?

i cant wait to see it and see some reviews, maybe one day pick one up if they're really amazing. but for now im happy with my c6zo6. just have to get it back from the auction with legal money, recently had it seized by the police because i got busted for selling pot.

@sodazman Also just to make sure, how you say the Zr1 wastes power you mean that the throttle has to be light on the zr1 while you can step on it in GTR. Right?

@dsmdeegen Didn't you hear? He said the ZR1 makes more power than the race car. Perhaps you meant some suspension components?

@TheHm3 No it means that the GTR doesn't waste power like the ZR1 because it doesn't slide around/spin its wheels as much. The ZR1 has a superior power to weight ratio but the GTR uses power more efficiently to compensate for that.
The track is Miller motorsports park in Utah. Hey that 9 second Honda isn't racing a track with corners. It is also not production stock.

@lemobile2 The Pontiac G8 was the best deal for the money:comfort:power ratio.
But the corvette is GM and you know they make epic sports cars.

@k6k6k6Darkie I think the ZR1 will be more entertaining to drive. I've driven the GTR and while it's very fast it's not the most exciting car to drive.
The Nissan chief engineer said that the GTR needs to be heavy to optimize grip levels but I'm not sure about that. The Super GT versions have RWD and V8 engines due to the official regulations. Years before it used to have turbo setups.
@TheHm3 The GTR is an easier car to drive because it's got more electronic assistance. The 4WD system is one of the very best in the world right now. The difference between the ZR1 and GTR is that the GTR doesn't waste as much energy. There's no lag in the gearchange and there's no wheelspin and slipping. So even though it doesn't have as much power it doesn't waste as much either. All that adds up on a long course like the Nurburgring.
@Topfueltrooper, I agree but for your last bit. I think the Miata is a great car if you are looking for something that light weight. Nothing else comes close for the price. Put a Vette motor in a Miata and you have a true monster! XD

@TheHm3 The ZR1 pulls more lateral Gs than the GTR on the skidpan. It's no slouch in the handling department for sure.
@lemobile2 true, true...the Nissan GTR isn't too bad either for the money, and your average driver...but thats just me..

C7 has been spied on a few times.... so I assume that they'll debut it at next years Detroit Auto Show... or maybe later this year. It could possibly debut this year at LA like the Viper made its debut this year in NY

@lemobile2 The vette is a great value for performance. Possibly Rossion Q1 is best competition.

Do you mean at longer times drivers get tired of the messy oversteering of the Zr1 and the GTR is easier to handle so drivers can drive it more legitimate in longer times without being tired? Please, explain further. And yes, GTR is much more advanced in assistance than the Zr1. In Zr1 driver has to do all the work.

Brian Colwell typically around 4 inches of clearance for stock. 2 inches or less for a road racing z06.

@geforce5591, no vette owner is going to disagree with that. That is our biggest complaint about the car. But it is more cheap-looking on the inside then ugly.

And the ZR1 is street legal, with all the bells and whistles including air conditioning.
Race car has only one purpose.
Add track tires and a little suspension mods to the ZR1 and you have the very best of both worlds.
ZR is chevorlet's ultimate competiteve option the blazer had the ZR2 and you could not get the damn thing stuck and the 5 speed v8 made the normal 4 speed v6 ZR2 pack look like a prius
@TheSkittleKids: a civic? A civic has gotta be modded to hell just to do 0 to 60 in 20 seconds. Meanwhile, the Corvette Z06 and ZR1 can do 200mph straight from the show room floor.

@sodazman but why does pro drivers easily handle the gtr better than the zr1? it doesnt make sense... the 2012 gtr only has 510 hp and its doing 7:24 in nurburgring.... wet condition.... i really dont get it is it because that the GTR is AWD and drivers can step on the throttle fully during a turn?? why cant the zr1 manage a 7:22 in nurburgring? i really do not get it

Why the hell would you want to launch in four consecutive times at a drag strip, anyway? That's asking for transmission problems on any car.
And almost no one races to a standing mile, and even there the GT-R is faster than the ZO6. The two only real scenarios you can really pull out of this is racing to the 1/4 mile and the track, which is somewhere most drivers would do better in the GT-R.
i like the race car more, better noise, more grip, it's lighter. and it's cooler to look at. but still, given the choice to have a highly used barely drivable race car vs the zr1 i'd take the zr1 lol
@sodazman that must be why the GTR is easily beaten by Zr1 in a short track such as Leguna Seca....the zr1 wins by a big number actually. in leguna seca zr1 is about 4 seconds faster than gtr. the zr1 easily does about 1:35.8 while the GTR needs 1:39 i wonder how they would be in road america....
@sodazman dont bring the gtr up... for god sakes its an AWD while having superior suspension and weight distribution.... if the zr1 had that it would kill the gtr quite easily

Racecars are tunable 'lol' the thing was designed for low down force running anyway. it would be kicking out 800+bhp with restrictors removed, the Veyron was an engineering exercise, in everything bar a ruler straight drag race a C6R would spank it every time.
heh on the autobahn i'd want to be in the GT1 C6R with the restriction removed and geared for say mmmmm, 240mph?
ZR1 is more similar to stock C6 with supercharger while the C6.R is more similar to Z06...

yep, but it has a positive side too... it roots out most of those people who dont want to pay for each and every car/track.
Much much less idiots in races than compared to say Forza 4 multiplayer. Its easy to get the licenses in iRacing but theres still a big difference between Rookies (free for all cars and tracks) and the C+ series in terms of people.
if AC has no such system like iRating and Safety Rating that iRacing has then the multiplayer will be not much different than arcade racers im afraid. Because theres nothing to discourage them from wrecking other people out of frustration.
Assetto Corsa feels more realistic to be honest. Understeer and oversteer feel more realistic at the limit compared to iracing. It feel easier at the limit in iracing, arcade like.

it's fair. the ZR1 once beat the ferrari 599 which has 612 hp.

@Topfueltrooper Agreed. I've never worked on a GTR but as a tech for the last 8 years I have worked on a lot of Nissans. All of them have been pieces of shit. I would never own a Nissan.
