  • Painting your house will not only improve its looks, it’s also the best thing you can do to protect it from the elements, and in New Zealand’s weather that’s pretty important. A coat of paint is your first line of defense against moisture and with regular maintenance a solid paint job should last for many years.

Great vid - Wife & I used the product called floetrol that the paint guys recommended to add with our water based paint and it was a god send by not allowing the paint to dry too fast per stroke in the heat. Even better was the finished look, as it had removed the brush stroke look and looked like it had been sprayed finish - top product.

No one's going to talk about the fact that he BRUSHED the entire house? With a 2" inch!!!
Not even a production level brush... Look I get it if you can't spray and aren't able to rent a spray rig for whatever reason. However that is no reason not to at least roll the majority of that job. Those are countless hours of your life you are never getting back...
Option A buy a roller cover designed for cinder block and apply the paint rolling right over difference in the siding up and down. A quick brush to the crevices and you are done with less than half the work.
Option B mini roller 3-4 inch. Roll each piece of siding. Tedious but still twice as fast.
Option C... Rollers killed your dog and you refuse to so much as look at them. Get a production brush it's about twice the size of his and holds more paint.
Oh and that one guy is right just throwing down that drop really isn't enough to protect the deck you should tape and mask it off first then drop

Some great info thanks! The cinder block roller you mentioned there, Are you saying use a really shaggy cinder block roller in an up and down motion on the weather boards and then brush it out? Love any time saving ideas Cheers!

Can someone please tell me what’s the difference between contract filler and say ADOS 2 part builders bog (pale pink when mixed). I want to seal and smooth out cracks and dents in my weather boards including weathered cracked weather board joints! Seems soooo many products - another is epoxy resin type one too.
What do you recommend pls and why 🙏🤔

@@helenhall642 Some times the color change makes more show up. Still as a pro I hit everything obvious. Prime hit anything else that shows up. I don't appreciate re primingthe new fills more than I have to.

Do you recommend using a roller on weather board of just stick to the brush ?

    • @ericterry4335
      @ericterry4335 4 роки тому +4

What's important for bare wood is proper surface prep. Application method is equal. If it's small I use a spray can of primer. If it's larger than a few square feet I use whatever roller setup works best or failing that you have on hand. If you are comfortable with spraying and it's a room or larger love an exterior then spray. Spraying is actually pretty easy and there are many guides.
For damages flaking areas you need to scrap off anything that will come off as it will eventually. If the wood is rotting it needs to have a wood hardener applied and if it's past that point be replaced. Then it needs to be primed in an primer rated for the project. All this is to create a solid stable surface that your paint will stick to.
Again it's the size of the area that determines your application method. One tip for medium up to 5x5 areas is a wide application double can of spray primer. Also remember good primer is often still oilbased so be careful and keep mineral spirits on hand for cleanup
Skipping prep = 3x the work in the end

    • @ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL

sand them back and rust kill them before painting, unless they are really bad in which case replace them.
