I really enjoyed watching your video very interesting as I'm building a deck at the moment myself for my dads house, I noticed that you put your posts straight in the post holes. In Australia the BCA requirements are that the posts must sit on anchors due to climate that may damage the timber however I just put them straight in with concrete just like you did because I realised it much stronger is there anything you can say about that. Thanks in advance friend
Hey there - we'd recommend having a chat to the team at your local hardware store - they'll be able to give you more specific advice and have local knowledge of requirements in your country.
Based on the PDF file provided by brilliant team of Mitre10, there are four anchored piles on this deck at the corners. I wish you could explain their differences with normal piles in the video.
What’s the best way to fit end-joists if your confined by house wall on one side and retaining walls on two other sides? I.e. Can’t slide it over easy to nail end-joist into end of joist?
If you are restricted on space to nail through boundary joist into your joists, then it may be best to fit a right angle nail plate or or joist hanger from joists to boundary joist.
Hi I'm using this vid to build my deck. I have a question though. Im using a old deck that is cut in chunks roughly 3x1m. The chunks are the decking and joist. Was wondering what's the best stable way to run the piles and bearers? Horizontal or parallel to house.
Radiata Pine, which is pretty ordinary in my opinion, especially as of late with all the good quality stuff being sent overseas and NZ being left with garbage SG8 and not much better SG10
This guy knows how to do everything
Hes our national hero
Good kiwi 🥝 knowledge & experience speaks volumes 👍🏻
😂
Except it doesn’t sound like he is saying deck…. Sounds like something else

What are differences if U want to use Metal & Concrete instead of Wood ?
Ah yes the drill that makes an impact noise, love it.
i saw that hahaha
He was using an impact?
14:16 mate, he drills a hole and they added an impact noise in post @@zachjudge5885
Please check bearer 2 size, where span 2 and 3 are at the door recess. I calculate 190x70 is required, not 140 x 90.

This deck came out great! I'm looking at using tuffblocks instead of concrete blocks. Has anyone used these before?
I am going to watch this
But how many of us have one of those nail guns?
And the skill to nail them at the correct angle!
I love the way Australian pronounce deck made this video not only informative but also hilarious. 😁
That’s a New Zealander.

Good work mate
Uncles the man.
great video and tips, makes it look easy, thanks
Is it the size of the deck that matters?
We can help you build any size deck you're after. But it's definitely how you use it that matters ^Kane
The size is less important than the hardness of the wood
Awesome video! Can I use H3.2 timber for my joists? Cheers
Thanks
I take that there is no need to fix the muddy ground underneath the deck?
You could put concrete under if you would like but I don't think its required
This chanel is awesome!!!
Agree!
great stuff, how do you build stairs into the deck?
Great video

I guess I'm asking what's the best way to put it back together
I love this cant wait too I can do it to my home one day
Does mitre10 provide quotes for their job like this?
Best to check in with your local about what services are available there :)
Chat with your local carpenter mate.
Is this show still on air?
Hi there! Feel free to check out more videos here: www.mitre10.co.nz/on-demand
I thought you couldn't bury your posts in the ground anymore because it encourages rot and had to slab and use anchors for your posts to slab.
This is the most standard form of building in New Zealand, Check out the NZ Building Standards for residential houses NZS3604
You can still use piles, provided they're H5-treated. The rest of the deck uses H3.2-treated timber.
A detailed plan of my what?
Of your deick.
Mean job thanks Stan
What wood is the decking?
Pinus radiata
