Spray the deck with a hose before cleaning to help it not dry out. I made that mistake. Also u can use a sprayer for the cleaner instead of dipping the brush every single time.
Hey Luke, sounds like it may need to be completely re-done with new timber. What kind of wood is it? You may be able to get away with replacing just the softer bits. Best thing to do would be to take a bunch of photos and head into your local store and chat with the team about best options ^Charlie
@@mitre10nz Thanks for the advice Charlie, I'll take some deck pics and show them to the staff at my local Mitre 10 near Whakatane, hopefully they'll help me get my old deck back to its former glory
@@mitre10nz sorry, that was an attempt at a joke, because "deck" sounds a bit ambiguous with your accent :) the video is excellent, do not pay attention to me.
Six to12 hours is pretty adequate, but always check manufacturer's specifications as each are different. I rather water blast as I am not using chemicals and doing the job and drying times is quicker.
Sorry... this is going to be my first time trying to stain my deck. At 4:05, what does this tip mean? Do I clean the deck and stain after 1 season? Thanks heaps!
Thanks for watching! We recommend staining after a few months, or a few seasons to allow the wood to completely dry, which will allow for a much better finish and protection once stained. ^Cam
Hey Serena, there are advantages to both - we'd recommend having a chat to the team at your local store and they'll be able to talk you through what might be the best choice based on the environment/local conditions and what you're wanting for the finished look ^Matt
I love Mitre 10 .... Love these guys who do the videos to help out the people like me who don't have a clue and have to do these things on our own. Good on you Mitre 10
The presenter has proven to be a highly competent and skills tradesman. His explanations are very good. just wish he would learn to pronounce his vowels. "Dick" (deck) "Pig" (peg) "Fince" (Fence)
This video needs to be viral. Everyone with a deck must absolutely see it. Even if you don't have a deck.
Love the smell of fresh wood in the morning😌 especially the kind from new Zealand 🇳🇿
I wish Mitre 10 Australia did such good quality videos.

Mitre 10, my deck has gone soft and spongy over the years as it's quite old, do you have any advice for making my wood nice and hard again? Cheers

When you have no clue how to do DIY stuff and then you come across this on UA-cam.😍🙌🏽✨🥰
Genuinely came here for advice....Now all I wanna do is go home and get my deck wet!
Throw a nice stiff broom in the mix 0:58 hahaha
“My deck is bone dry...” 😂😂
What a sort of MAN, that can speak this with absolutely serious face! Professional, and actor too.
Oh, boy, hubby and i were gloomy and doomy thinking about a weekend spent oiling the deck, not anymore! take care
This video unjustly leaves out older users, whose decks are not hard wood anymore!
What style of decks would you like to see? ^Cam

How can he keep a straight face?

This is the funniest video on UA-cam
OMG I just about spit out my coffee laughing at 1:50
Awesome tutorial, thank you 👍
My deck has an odd smell to it, any advice on what to do?
A nice house and a talented owner :)
Wow I didn't know it was that easy
After cleaning the deck with the deck clean, how long did you wait for it to dry before staining ? 24 hours?
Six to12 hours is pretty adequate, but always check manufacturer's specifications as each are different. I rather water blast as I am not using chemicals and doing the job and drying times is quicker.
@@TheClaudos water blasting pushes water deep into the timber which can take over 3 weeks to completely dry out
So step one is to find an bucket that’s just large enough to get the brush in on an awkward angle. Gotcha Mitre 10... 🤣🤣🤣
he didn't say deck once
FYI cub we'd city es v

1:50, :D at this point it became an entertainment video!
I wish my deck looked a million bucks!
What's the difference between an oil based vs water based deck stain?
Hey Serena, there are advantages to both - we'd recommend having a chat to the team at your local store and they'll be able to talk you through what might be the best choice based on the environment/local conditions and what you're wanting for the finished look ^Matt
I love a big deck
What about the varnish
what an adorably hilarious video.. Kiwis are the best!. hardwood dick.. :)
Much easier to water blast the deck instead of using all those expensive cleaning products that don't work so well.
That's exactly what I do :)
Hi, you don't make any sense to me, you had two different cans yet you mixed them both together, an oil base and a water base
Please explain.
They were both oil base - which he choose. He mixed those two oil base tins together in case of a colour variation
your an ignorant idiot the ones he mixed together were both oil based -----comprehend

I have the same concern until I see a comment below yours: he actually mixed two oil based. thank! But it’s quite confusing in the video.
1:50 😂
#showusyourdeck
I am so glad I am not the only one who heard dick instead of deck.
realy is that all you got out of ths
heres a tip ya dont sweep against the grain !! jesus
you can go against it once to get into those place going with the grain wont get into, but always go finish going with the grain.
he didn't use the 30 seconds because it dosnt work

Oh, please, don't, just great the way it is....it has taken the gloom and doom of oiling the deck.
His accent is New Zealand/Aussie
Hi Daniel, it is New Zealand accent, not Aussie, we say deck. The presenter is great, hubby and i followed instruction and our deck looks great.
Don't tell us to change our accent. Maybe learn more about the accent and immerse yourself in it.

He can't say deck properly....
