    This video is the first installment of the overactive bladder series and focuses on what causes overactive bladder or bladder urgency/frequency, so that we can make more sense of the interventions outlined in the upcoming videos!

      Omg thanks for this. I pee 30x a day. So how is it related to constipation with overflow......cus if am not peeing am pooping

      @@andrewjames4346 I remember you saying that you struggled with frequent urination, I'm so sorry that it's still an issue. Urgency/frequency tied with constipation can be a tricky combination to untangle, in that constipation (and frequent diarrhea, for that matter, which you may experience with overflow pending on your bowels) can cause urgency frequency. The bladder and rectum are really close together in the pelvis, and a full rectum can push on/irritate the bladder, making the bladder muscle contract/feel urgent... and then acting on those urges feeds into the urgency/frequency brain-bladder receptor loop. And usually, when someone poops, they also pee, so someone who is experiencing diarrhea/frequent BMs would also be emptying their bladder when it isn't very full over and over again, which is also feeds into the urgency/frequency loop. I've had a lot of success treating bowel dysfunction first when someone presents with urgency/frequency and bowel stuff, but that doesn't mean that this series won't be helpful for you or that bladder habit retraining won't make a difference. It just might not make as big of a difference as fusing the bladder retraining with resolving the bowel dysfunction would, if that makes sense.

      @@PelvicEmpowerment is there such a thing as an over absorbent gi trackt. One that just sucks up water at such a fast rate that everything becomes dehiydrated and the bladder becomes fuller more frequently?

    • @PelvicEmpowerment
      @PelvicEmpowerment  3 роки тому

      @@andrewjames4346 That's a really good question... I'm not sure about the over absorbent GI tract, although I'm always open to anything being a potential reality in the body. I will say that someone who experiences constipation sometimes has intestines that don't contract at the optimal speed, they move more slowly than is ideal, and the slower the intestines move, the more water is absorbed from the food/stool back into the body (the more water into the bladder...?), the drier/harder the stool is that makes it to the rectum, the higher the likelihood of constipation.

    Since a loss of a baby girl, fairly late in the pregnancy in 2019, complications, and surgery, I'm just going to say that this is needed. And honestly couldn't have come at a better time. I've been feeling so stressed out and embarrassed (which I know I shouldn't, but I can't help it!). Thank you!

      Oh my gosh, I am so, so sorry for your loss. Miscar*iage affects people differently, and anything that you've felt or are feeling surrounding that experience is okay and valid. I'm so glad that this series' timing feels good to you, that's awesome, and I'm honored to be a positive part in your healing journey. I hear you when you say you've been feeling stressed and embarrassed, that's okay! Pelvises can feel so personal... I think they're very emotional spaces that are more tied to our sense of self than we realize. For what it's worth, I can't tell you how many times I've treated bladder dysfunction in the clinic. I promise you, you are NOT alone in this at all.
      I hope this series is helpful for you. Other things to consider that I didn't mention - constipation can also cause urgency/frequency (the rectum and bladder are very close together, and a full rectum can push on/irritate the bladder and make it unhappy), so if you have any constipation treating that could help with urgency/frequency, and I know that this is a tale as old as time, but stress/anxiety can affect the bladder as well. Anything you can do give yourself even 10-15 minutes/day of true relaxation/de-stressing time (I've had patients do adult coloring books, hot tub/hot bath soaks, read fiction novels, I even had one patient who would swim laps) could also be helpful.
      Finally, if you try out this series and it doesn't quite do the trick, a good pelvic PT might be a helpful provider for you! If you live in the US, you can use this directory to find a provider near you: pelvicrehab.com/

    After I had a uti 9 months ago I still have urgency and frequency. I did multiple urine tests and a micro genex test and have zero bacteria. It’s so frustrating do you think a uti can cause over active bladder? I’m going to watch all your videos. I haven’t seen a specialist to diagnose this just going off of my symptoms, which are peeing every 30 minutes to an hour all day. Only pee once at night.

    • @PelvicEmpowerment
      @PelvicEmpowerment  3 роки тому +1

      While I'm really happy your tests are all negative, I'm so sorry to learn that you're struggling with urgency/frequency 9 months after a UTI. You aren't alone in this experience at all. Unfortunately, UTIs can set off overactive bladder/other bladder- and/or pelvic-related issues. This is something I've seen in the clinic before - I think, because UTIs are infections, which can be a mini tra*ma, if you will, the pelvic floor will sometimes tense up and guard, and then forget to let go even after the infection is over. I think this series may be helpful for you, but it also might be helpful to seek out pelvic physical therapy! A good therapist could take a look at your pelvic floor/surrounding musculature and tailor interventions to your unique presentation. I'm so sorry you're struggling, but don't give up on your body's ability to heal! Bodies are incredible, and I'm confident yours is no exception, it might just need help to remember that you no longer need protection 🧡

    Is it true that overactive bladder can be caused by Cerebral palsy? When my bladder is full my spasticity is getting worst.

      Yes, neurological conditions can absolutely have an effect on bladder health and contribute to conditions like overactive bladder, unfortunately.
