I am 74 years old and retired from LADWP were I worked at the Owen’s Valley at the Control Gorge Power Plant and retired in Carson City Nv in 2017 . I’ve had CCW permit for years. When Antifa showed up in Reno and began to riot, there is a ton of X- military personnel in Nevada, when I arrived in Reno at the demonstration the amount of armed citizens who were armed with everything from M16s , M1 Grands , semi automatic shotguns ,AR-10s . The Nevada Highway Patrol asked the civilians if the would surround the rioters and they will escort them back to the California border. Which is exactly what they did. I often explain to people I can do more harm with a cellphone than I ever could with a gun, and I don't leave home without either.
For real, though, look at all the damage and death caused by some idiot filming George Floyd and working people into a frenzy on social media before the facts came out that he died from drug overdose. A cellphone is way more capable of harming the world than a handgun. Billions in damages, multiple people killed in related riots, tons of assaults, you get the picture.

Out of 196 countries the US ranked 3rd in gun violence.
Take the top 5 cities with the most gun violence out of the equation and the US goes from 3rd to 189th.

Some guy on drugs was knocking on my door with a t-shirt wrapped around his right hand. I really hate when people are like, "It's a mental health issue!" because, dude, I struggle hard with depression, especially in this economy, but I would never shoot myself or others, even if I'm teetering on suicidal thoughts (been there more than I'd like).
I'm often terrified some well-meaning people will take from me one of the few things that brings joy to my life, which is shooting guns, reloading ammo for guns, and working on guns. I'm even a volunteer RSO at my local shooting association. Guns are therapeutic for me, I swear to God I'll loose my damn mind if people take that from me because of some asinine feel-good "mental health" bill. I already can't seek therapy because I live in a red flag law state.
Just remember, people hurt other people with guns not because they're mentally ill, but because they are making a conscious choice to use their firearm for malicious purpose. As for suicides, well... how about people pay more attention to their friends and family. I prevented my friend from killing himself by sacrificing an entire weekend to talk him out of it. Not kidding, I was on call with him for 48 hours until we were too tired to keep talking. I made him promise me he wouldn't kill himself before we could talk again. When I woke up, I called him back, and asked if he'd thought about what we said. He thanked me for being there for him, and that he woke up feeling more optimistic about life.
You will never legislate away suicide, or homicide. Instead, be there for your fellow man when he needs help. When you're on the cusp of suicide, you reach out desperately for someone to talk you out of it. If that fails, it only solidifies your sense of hopelessness, your sorrow, fear, and rage go into full swing, and you will do things to yourself you otherwise wouldn't do. People who haven't been in that abyss of darkness themselves don't fucking get it. Gun or no gun, you will find a way.
Be there for people. However, if you try to help, you better be committed to helping, and be sincere. If there's one thing that suicidal people can detect, it's when you are not sincere. Even if you don't get it, being a sincere, sympathetic ear can be enough.
Anyway, good video, and yeah, I wish anti-gun people would shut the fuck up, 'cause they don't know what they're talking about, they don't care about anyone but themselves, and they have no problem hurting other people if it means their ego gets stroked.

      I'm on 70% VA mental health disability. I'm 50. I've head Suicidal Ideation since I was 12.
The ONLY reason I haven't self-deleted was because I CHOSE NOT TO. Sometimes it can be weeks between having to make that choice, sometimes seconds. The availability of a gun does not change that choice as there are far more ways than just that.
Losing my gun rights is something that very likely would cause me to make that final choice by a different method.

They should be treating it by a State by State basis, and funnily enough the States that restrict the right to bear arms have higher crime rates. It isn't hyperbolic to say that small rural communities were everyone has a gun are borderline crime-free, because criminals know that every time they try to commit a crime in such a place it could be their last attempt.

The term "gun violence" itself is so "Demspeak"- who came up with it, anyway? And why aren't stabbings called "knife violence" or people being bludgeoned "club violence"? Liberals get to create the language, then they use it to further their own aims.

I said "hell yeah, 24/7" then drew my gun and shot five rounds at a nearby target, hitting every shot in the A zone...all within two seconds. The population of the US was 338.3 million. Subtract 18.8 million for NYC, 8.9 million for Chicago, and 12.5 million for LA, you get a population of 298 million. The total gun deaths in the US was 48,830. Subtract 585 for NYC (it has a very low gun death rate despite what people say), 1,753 for Chicago, and 962 for LA, and you get 45,530 gun deaths. Hi Colin,
Here in New Zealand we don't quite have the same gun culture as you all do in the USA, nor a constitution, however of the 5 million population over 250,
000 are licensed firearm owners. Mostly own them for hunting & recreational shooting such as targets etc & are of no danger to anyone else; yet It's now very hard for a younger person to get a Firearm license to follow their chosen shooting life style. Our forests are dying because of feral pests & the youth crime rate is heading upwards yet the former socialist govt petty officials fail to see the solution (partially) is to promote firearm use to get rid of the pests. The Govt will get a good take on the taxes for vehicles etc, rifles ammo camping gear etc & @ the same time cut the pest problem & provide food for families as well as give the younger ones a focus & keep them off the streets.....it's weird I have to renew my license by September this year (& I've been hunting/shooting for over 55yrs,) but I still have to fill out a 40 page application form just to satisfy the govt I'm a safe person with a rifle etc. It all stems from the Shooting in Christchurch back in 52017, But that was caused by the fact that the Police didn't follow their own licensing procedure properly allowing the Aussie guy to buy the rifles in the first place; Then we local shooters etc have to pay for it all via stricter gun control. As you say the Crims don't care about laws so they still retain their firearms & use them on each other occasionally. Apparently the new Govt is going through the process to take out some of the restrictions &firearm registration etc, so hope it happens soon.
    Regards,
    Phil.

According to PEW, most gun deaths in the US are suicides. If someone wants to commit suicide it is their personal control and can not usually be stopped if that is their final decision. To many, using a gun just seems to be the quickest way to do it. So 54% of all gun deaths, aka suicides, are caused by mental health problems, not by direct gun violence such as murder or accidents. They are in a different category, especially since there are many different ways to commit suicide.

Your placement of "rules" and "laws" in quotation marks brought up something my son and I have talked about frequently. "Laws" are laws of nature. police don't need to enforce them, they enforce themselves. If you try to take a sharp turn at high speed in a car, you will part company with the paved road, and with a lot of luck, you will live to learn from your mistake, though you probably won't use that car again.
"Rules" are made by man, and are punished by man. Punishment only occurs of you are caught. Sometimes, rules are based on laws (like speed limits, though these are deliberately (I think) conservative, because the rule-makers know people will exceed them). Other times they are made to protect people who can't protect themselves (laws against theft and murder, for example). Other times, they are made so people with money can make more money, or people in power can keep their power. Legally, they carry the same weight, regardless of their motivation.
The rest of it comes under the category of "guidelines", to be ignored at your whim, and your peril.

Very true. We are pretty high on the crime list overall though. Comparing America to places like Columbia or Mexico is kind of silly. America boasts about how great it is, yet people get carjacked at gas stations and have their homes invaded. Guns are not the culprit, just like spoons and forks don’t make people fat. We can own forks and spoons and be healthy. But that requires a culture of healthy eating and effort. Just like people owning guns and not doing crime. The problem America has is a culture problem. We glorify violence in music and movies. We push home-destroying agendas into our kids. The problem is culture not guns.

Seriously, this is such an amazing example of what happens when an 'issue' becomes politicized. You get told that you are a horrible person for not agreeing with the made-up solutions to the made-up problem, while actual humans are left to suffer as the real problems are not addressed...

    That meme about American having millions of guns and trillions of rounds of ammo is on point;
*_“If there was truly a gun problem in America, you’d know about it.”_*

Thank you, most articulate and educated explanation I've heard someone offer. Takes a great mind and a level head to see that this is not an issue of gun control, and no amount of gun control will help.

Probably true of all states but definitely true for Virginia: The revocation rate for CCW permits is less than .3%. A CCW can be revoked for even pretty minor crimes. This means that CCW permit holders are among the least likely humans to even commit very minor offenses out of any demographic out there. Grandmothers have a higher statistic chance of being dangerous than a CCW holder.

I'm a Boomer. A Bionic Boomer. I Enjoy what I do and plan to keep on doing it. Growing up when I did was Great for my firearms knowledge and my collection. My Great Uncle's 1911 bring back from the First World War, which my Uncle carried in the Second. Mausers, Arisakas, Lugers, one STG 44 . Took it apart and put it together. The owner, my friends dad, only had 8 rounds. 8MM short. Just try to find that! I wonder if it ever got fired? Kids in that era floated on a sea of souvenirs and bringbacks. I have a .30 Carbine from Saipan. .30 Carbine was about the same price as.22s, so I fired a Lot of surplus .30 Carbine ammo. Some of the stuff had to to be tegistered under the NFA. In 1968 one of our neighbors registeted a BAR and a couple of Thompsons in 1968. All bringbacks. It was a great time to grow up as far as learning about firearms and starting a collection.
Firearm Safety was taught young with live ammunition. The power of firearms was demonstrated on objects. Soda bottles, watermelons, etc.Kids walked around with rifles or shotguns and no one paid any attention. Not one kid that I I knew from that time ever had any accident or misused a firearm. There were guns and ammo all over the place. Knowlege kept kids safe.
50% Of the Worlds guns? I believe it's probably more than that. In a Free Country, like ours, kids better damned well know how to deal with firearms safely because they are, most certainly, objects that are encountered in everyday life.

Here in India, We don't allow guns as freely and we don't have as many violent crimes involving guns. Our laws prescribe death penalty for murder and shooting someone dead could bring the noose. Different formulas work for different countries.

Not because I'm a gun owner, but because the focus of anti-gunners shows that their priority ISN'T the people involved, only the item that they need controlled.

One other piece to this - those places with the most crime - that seem to have the most additional gun laws as well - if you do end up defending yourself in most of these places, you will more than likely end up being the one arrested for violent acts. How messed up is that?

Add to that less than half of Americans own a firearm. And about have of them only own one. So, 40-50 million Americans own all those guns !
