Awesome footage Jono. We ended up in cloud at the top of the Mt Moka track and lost all the good views, you've just reminded me to go back soon! Look amazing.
I have enjoyed many trips through there in my Corona car . My family owned this property till fairly resent times from the 1900s lease from the crown .The property started from the second Gate from the Matakanui side and finished at the Matakanui Station boundary gate at the Stone Hut. The road was put through in the 1970s and it maintained as per the agreement made at that time by the Vincent County. My Father and my self and 1st cousin were to make the first drive through in a old Bedford truck on its completion.
Oh wow! that's wicked Kevin. Always good to get some inside information on these places and the stories of what things were like. Doing the trail in an old Bedford must've been a little uncomfortable, kinda like doing it in a defender haha
@@lostsheepadventures yes it may have been its so many years ago now don't remember what the ride was like but I do know that Vincent. County keep the track in great condition hence the ability to be able to drive a car though no problems. There more history available on the net thats interesting ,I do believe it was used as pathway through the Dunstan by Maori Moa hunters and artifacts had been found in caves some where near the Matakanui side
Do you have a map for that route to get back down from Moka? I've been up there a few times and always ended up going back down that steep part. Would be awesome to do the full detour!
"Don't collapse" As he jumps in...brilliant.
a request to the RNG gods haha

Ahh that would suck, least the adventure is partially in the climb. Definitely head back, some of the best views you'll get of that area I reckon.
