My Grandfather took us grandkids from Cromwell to the Nevis Crossing back in 1974 in his 1965 Morris Oxford. In January 1982, when staying with my Grandparents, at the age of 16, I rode my Suzuki 50 from Cromwell to the summit of Duffers Saddle and back Fast forward to 2003 and 2005, I participated in the Pub to Pub Gutbuster a mountain bike race which is essentially the trail highlighted that starts in Garston and finishes at Bannockburn.
Cheers for the crossing tips yesterday on way to Macetown me Pajero just made it through the soft stuff. In-laws behind me in blue Surf said I should have got your autograph cos you’re a internet celebrity. Have just subscribed to your channel and going to watch all your vids and plan some more trips. Really enjoyed the day but ended up having to limp back to Cromwell and getting motel with a destroyed wheel bearing caused by sliding hard into a rut near the toilet. Got Pajero at in-laws place in Ranfurly and will sort out this weekend ready for next adventure.
Oh legend mate! definitely sounds like an adventure you had. It is an awesome track the ol' Macetown Road but can definitely come with some surprises! Cheers for the sub and we might catch you on the trails again someday
Damn those fords at the southern end have gotten a lot more gnarly! Last time I biked it (Gutbuster cycle event) was 2010 and I though it harsh then! Great vid.
Great as always, Jonno. Thanks for the air filter engineering advice. Can I offer some advice?, I suggest you look at investing in some windproof and wireless microphones (that allow you clear voice/sound recording separate and a long way from camera, even in windy or bad weather), that usually come in pairs and clip onto your shirt/jacket front, as they will improve your audio by a good 200%. Worth a try, you can get wireless pairs of microphones including wind protection for about $40, or spend over a thousand dollars!! Take care & stay safe. 💜💜
Have moved into that with my more recent videos and recently updated 1 mic but film gear, truck gear and fuel all adds up haha it's all a work in progress
@@lostsheepadventures that's awesome, yeah I recently got a 4x4 and have plenty of plans for it, but this is exactly what I was looking for as I am quite fresh to the off road scene and have plenty to learn , I just love exploring and now having the off road vehicle just made the opportunities so much greater
Nice one just done it on my Himalayan, beautiful country side, come on now, we may be a little conceited, but is this God's own or what! To those of you who haven't had a look get a bike ,speak nicely to a friend who has a four wheel drive vehicle and go take a look, lot of this beautiful countryside is often almost pn your own back doorstep and many New Zealanders have never seen it, now that is a tragedy ! P.S. thanks for the video!
Havent done it this year, so unsure what the crossing are like. I would be comfortable and confident in taking my surf through there. Petrol and no snorkel ae. Most crossing are rather low.
I am thinking of taking my Porsche Cayenne through. It's on 265/70/17 Goodyear Duratracs. The wading depth is 500mm. Would be in the middle big summer and only if it's been dry.
Drove through here in my outback a few years back and was a great drive. Made it through the streams no worries
Would a Toyota rav4 get through there?
Yeah would do. Depends on how much rain there’s been and I think they close the road over winter
Cheers

Highly recommend this track, done it twice, once on a mountain bike and once with a bone stock 04 prado with some cheap A/T tires.
Nice job, great journey, the Nevis is much bigger than I first thought.
My god mate the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. New Zealand is such a wonderful country. Oh by the way great video mate.

Oh mate you didn’t do the water crossing with the bridge on the left
Nice off roading mate! Did you use air suspension for your jeep?
Hey man, na its just got a 4" suspension lift in it.
What sort of wading depth do you need to get through there?

@@1962kokopelli Just go in with the knowledge that if something looks too deep you may be turning around. Interesting car to take through though.
Might have to put my 4B on a plane and shoot over from Oz aye bro.....looks awesome! NZ is an amazing country.
Would a stock 5th generation Toyota rav4 get through there?
Dry season, it should do it no worries with a couple creek crossings and maybe a bumper deep water hole or 2. any other season, not really now ae
@@lostsheepadventures Awesome thanks man
Did u try take my mates bike in Alex one time
What’s she like on fuel bro ???
Worst I’ve ever had haha but had it so long it’s normal now. Burned 3/4 a tank easy in this day trip 😅
