I get that Flag has grown a lot in the last 20 years but how the hell can a still tiny (compared to Phoenix) high country town provide the kind of jobs that enable a median house price of 800K? That's just nuts. Must be an influx of out ouf staters buying up the housing stock and pushing prices to insane levels.
Well, there goes my dream of moving from extremely hot & humid Texas to a beautiful town that actually gets snow & cold weather. I'm mindblown it's more costly to move there than almost any town in Colorado.😢
Flagstaff has grown a lot during the past few years. 😵 Although I don’t live there, I have a daughter that lives in Sedona. Since I live in Southern California, I drive to visit her at least 4 times a year. During my visit, we always drive to Flagstaff at least twice a week to go shopping, or go out to eat. I noticed many new stores and shopping centers have been built during the past 8 to 10 years, so it’s still growing. You’re right, there is no Trader Joe’s, but there is a Sprouts Market. Flagstaff is a beautiful place no matter what the season, although I don’t enjoy driving when there’s snow 😁 I do love watching the wild animals though.
I HAVE A FRIEND WHO LIVES IN FLAGSTAFF AND WHO HUNTS & FISHES . ONE EVENING WHILE FISHING AT LAKE MARY HE ENCOUNTERED A MASSIVE SASQUATCH THAT CHASED DEER FROM THE LAKE IN FRONT OF HIS TRUCKS HEADLIGHTS!
Flagstaff is just a dirty "railroad town" with some nice national forest surrounding it. I moved here in 1966. Believe me, it's nothing special. NAU, Northern Arizona University is a "dumb downed institution". The cost of living here is quite high, and local wages don't support the real estate market. I sold my last home here ten years ago for $349,000, and it's on the market again now for in excess of $900,000. The infrastructure is 1970's vintage. I'm looking to bail...................
Richard, But if you live in Flagstaff, you can always easily escape the cold and snow in the dead of winter by just driving two hours to Phoenix where it’s warm during the winters, or you can go much closer to lower elevation towns like Cottonwood, Cornville, or Camp Verde where it’s chilly, but you don’t have the snow.
If no Trader Joe’s is an issue, I’m sure there will be one there sometime in the near future. The town I live in has two Trader Joe’s and I rarely go there. You aren’t missing anything. I worked for the original Trader Joe’s back in the early 1970’s when we had like 18 stores total in Southern California (including Pronto Markets). Back then we were nothing but a glorified 7/11 with liquor, wine and beer.

Many Californians are moving here and paying more than a million dollars cash for their houses.
That’s very likely it. Additionally, there are retirees moving up there buying up properties with money they’ve saved from years of work.

A lot of us who live in Sedona go to Flagstaff frequently to shop or just have fun. I love it there.

SHE FORGOT TO MENTION SASQUATCH SIGHTINGS! LOTS OF ENCOUNTERS UP THERE AND THE TOWN NOW POSTS ROAD WARNING SIGNS ON “BIGFOOT”
HEAVY SNOW IN THE WINTER! BRING A SHOVEL

Yep.
EXACTLY!
I lived in Flagstaff over thirty years ago, when it was still pretty affordable. Sorry to hear that home prices and rents have gotten so crazy.
For that $ and cold/snowy winters, I can just stay in the NE.

Nebraska is flat and no skiing
@vertihvost7675 you forgot to mention how boring 😴 😪 it is.

Imagine being stupid enough to move to a mountain town without knowing anything about snow, bears, high elevation, and a lack of spas on every corner.
Way warmer than Minnesota. If you want warm winters, you get hot summers.
Graduated NAU in the 1900’s. Nice. 🏆
You from Buffalo or Detroit?
Long Island. Although moved to AZ when I was a child, so didn't think anyone was able to tell.
I read Flagstaff is one of the most snowy areas in the U.S.
