    That pearl ship my dad was going to take me where my dad though it was but could get through. But it is under water and only what he thought was a mass of that ship

    I would like to take a moment to point out that at the time of the Oatman massacre the south Bank of the Gila River was Mexican territory. It wasn't until 1853 that the Gadsden Purchase, that south of the Gila became U.S. territory. That may have lead to the problem Lorenzo Oatman had getting millitary aid.
