Very very nice had a slight wind sound in there.
Keith
seriously bro your on point with this one composition is everything and you smashed it
that means so much my friend. thank you. Hey i shared a note to you on your latest video.
@@TedNemeth awesome mate stoked you enjoyed it
That dolly zoom 👌❤. I don't know much about cinematography, but from what I see, I'm lovin' it. Thank you again for your time.
Ted, that video makes me think about what Ansel Adams would have done with a drone. Great work!
The vertigo effect looked good.
hey my flying filmmaker friend! i had fun with this episode. love little editing tricks
Very nice tutorial Ted. Your desaturated LUT is now expected. Your real estate client would be quite happy. Keep up the good work 👍👍
URI! Thank you for the kind words. Yup I’m working on a free LUT for that look. It’s super easy but I have to learn how to set up a download page etc.
Thanks Ted. The cropping zoom in Lumafusion was fun to learn. I really enjoy your videos!
hey Dustin! thank you sir. And welcome to our Flying Camera Crew. We have fun here.
I use the pan crop all the time. That's a great tip. The dolly zoom trick is a good one too. I use that with varying degrees of success too. The joysticks orbit trick is new to me and I'll try that. One thing I also have to try is 24fps vs 60fps. I love the smoothness of 60fps. Wonderful stuff, of course, Ted!
hey Christian. Thanks for watching. Yeah definitely try 60fps. I use it very frequently. It makes bird flight look so much better. Same with trees blowing in the wind, etc. Smoother overall.
LOL at shooting at "auto exposure because I'm not an idiot". I really love this learning format, thanks!
hey Kim! Thanks for watching. And loved your Atlanta storm video. Keep up the great content. - hello from New York!
Got to love your work Ted! Man burning man looked epic!
thank you! You need to go. You’re a traveling soul like me. You belong there!
Nice! Much easier to do a dolly zoom in edit than pressing the customizable button + moving the gimball dial to zoom in while flying backwards
totally agree with you. Much smoother to do it in editing.
my first time came in here and so many things that i learned about cinematography, love so much,i will stay connected with this channel, thanks for all beautiful amazing filming, big hug from indonesia
hello Grandma UTI! Your channel your spirit is amazing. You try & do everything. Amazing. You are a huge inspiration to all your grandkids. I see you are in West Java. I live in Indonesia part time but not visited Java yet. Thank you for watching my drone tutorial. Glad you learned something. Any specific topic I can help you with in an upcoming tutorial?
Nice to see you again. Beautiful movie tips from you Ted.
Thank you for all this beauty.
hello to you Pierre in the Netherlands! Thank you for the kind words. I simply MUST visit your country one day. My grandfather was a filmmaker and he couldn’t stop talking about the Netherlands. Loved it.

If You come over to The Netherlands, I'll have a place to live and sleep for You for that time Ted. And just to be clear, against zeropointzero.
Yes I am in San Diego, love it here.
You never stop to impress buddy, keep them coming 🙏 #justbekind ❤️
yes! #justbekind. Thank you for spotting that.
I'm realizing now after only two days with my new drone just how great a drone is for revealing stuff.
Congrats on your first drone! Welcome to the family.
Hey Ted, I see quite a few associates (10) in your comments. Hopefully they can put to use what you've done in this tutorial. I've done a few of these in my videos as well. Desaturation is a nice technique and I have used it. I would be interested in see how well your LUT works with your additional tweaks. "The Dolly Zoom". I did this one by accident in my Jupiter Inlet & Dubois Park video as I was descending over a condo. I liked it so much I left it in the video and have a mental note to use it again when the appropriate footage dictates using it.
The one thing I differ on is the use of zoom. I refrain from using it because the footage begins to look degraded. Even when shooting in 4k and above. And, it amplifies any unsteady stick movements. But, to each his own! Thanks for sharing! 👍
Definitely try these fantastic tips cheers col from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺 👍
colin cheers for the kind words my friend. Great to hear they were helpful. Fly safe and have a beautiful New Years!
Nice Ted! Love your video! Some great ideas! Thanks for sharing!
thank you for watching. You haven’t posted in over a month?!? I love seeing the NZ countryside. You’ve come a long way since filming in your garden! Congrats on your drone journey. I’m doing the same: learning, sharing & trying not to crash.
Who knew a boarded up shack can be so spectacular 👍
Fernando many thanks brother. Yeah I was pretty surprised at how good that footage looked because I was filming during a mid day SUPER bright day. I wish it were golden hour. But the Mini 3 really nailed that footage.
Very slick, love this. Thanks Ted. :)
Hey short and sweet video.. another great episode. Looking forward to your Luts and editing tutorials 🎉
dude thank you for the support! Are you going to post some drone clips? What type of scenes do you like to shoot? Congrats on your Mini 3!
@@TedNemeth tbh I’m just doing a mixture of everything I haven’t really found my style as yet so it’s kinda frustrating sometimes … I love lyric videos I’ve been wanting to use footages from my drone and add music but I’m afraid I’ll get banned for copyright infringement.
Great video sir..thanks for sharing
Absolutely spectacular views! Wow! You're doing such amazing work with your drone, thank you for sharing the tips! Have a beautiful weekend!
thank you my friend. hope my little tips help. You live in a beautiful part of the world. Made for drones. Even in the dead of winter I’ve seen some spectacular winter drone shots.

Hello Sir, I absolutely love your videos, you are pleasant to watch, very informative, and seem like you really enjoy creating. Thank you for inspiring me to become better with my photography and videography.
Mike! wow thanks for the support ma man. I see you’re a firearms instructor/enthusiast. Right on. I used to shoot when I was younger, my dad shot competitively. I remember as a kid shooting clay pigeons. Even hand making bullets at the kitchen table with him.
And going to the range. He was always SUPER careful/cautious.
Fly safe Mike and welcome to our FLYING CAMERA CREW.
Awesome Ted, can't wait to try it. Keep 'em coming bro!!!!!!
P.S. please give us the LUT... quite stunning and with Halloween coming up it can be quite useful.
Also, how did you add the "old time scratchy film" look
hey my friend! here is a link to the effect. You can either download the video, or what I did was simply screen record while the video was playing. Then in your editing program just edit/remove the green screen effect. ua-cam.com/video/fOmvBhKviac/v-deo.html
You are a trip brother! Love your vids. You’ve convinced me to switch to auto exposure while using ND filters rather than manual mode - one less thing to think about while trying not to crash. My ND64 is the most valuable tool in my toolbox. Keep putting out dope tutorials🤙
ha! thanks Jim. Appreciate it. Wow you and Steph have done some great traveling the last few years. Love it. I’ll be in Costa Rica at some point in the next few months. Where are you based?
Based out of Cincinnati, OH. Costa Rica is one of our favs, hope you like it - I’ll be watching for a vid!
Until then safe travels to India for the documentary🛫
Brilliant from the UK

Great tutorial Ted
thank you Lyn! Thanks for watching. What type of content do you mostly shoot with your drone? Any specific questions I can address in an upcoming episode? I’d love to help in any way possible.
Hi Ted. Thanks for this info and "how to". Your vids help hugely in my development
my man! i can’t tell you how much it means to me to hear works like this. I am new to drones & youtube also. I have experience in cinematography, but growing on UA-cam is insanely difficult. So I am guided only by my passion to teach what I have learned and hope people like you find some value. Are there any specific topics you’d like to see covered in an upcoming episode?
@@TedNemeth Thanks Ted. Your "video settings" videos are very clear and concise. But if you are the genie granting wishes, maybe a short video on how to use the video imaging program that you use. Even if it isn't one that I or someone doesn't use it WILL be helpful to me and maybe helpful to some others. I use one of the free programs now and even though there are some YT vids on how it works, but some instruction from a video pundit person can only help more.
Excellent tips man 👍
Thank you Alan. And congrats on your approaching 1k subs. Even though the money is tiny from YT ads,….its still fun to see a little money appear each month from our hobby we’d be doing regardless.
Really nice, thanks
Welcome Back. Always dropping these "Why didn't I think of that tutorials"... I hope they still got the discounted real estate price...

hey Rik. Great seeing your name pop up. I’ll be in SE Asia around January.

Nicely done 👍🏼👍🏼
thank you Jay! This editing tip can really be useful in your car videos when you’re profiling a specific car/setting. I think I mentioned in one of your videos…..I’m a HUGE car & motorcycle grease monkey. LOVE.
You can actually define the geo-point of the house as the Point of Interest and lock on to it, that makes the orbit while pulling back a ton easier to pull off. However it gives a bit more restraints in editing afterwards.
great tip. Will definitely test it on my Mini 3. I actually fly my Mini 2 more frequently than my Mini 3. So with the Mini 2 I need to utilize this little crop zoom trickery. What camera do you fly?
@@TedNemeth I don't know whether it would work on the Mini 2, never tried that one. I fly a Mini 3 Pro, an Avata and a bunch of self-built ones.

Useful info, good to know 👍👍😎
thank you my friend. Hey your latest episode is beautiful. I had to search where that town/marina are located. Very cool.
@@TedNemeth Nice to hear that 👍 Worth visiting 👍 Greetings 😁
Late to the party here. Another excellent inspirational video. Interested to know if you use your 4K footage in a 1080 timeline to get the cropping options without losing resolution - assuming you then output at 1080p of course. Have done this a lot with non-drone footage. I can see there is even greater potential with drone footage. The vertigo effect works way better with a drone shot. One other idea, using post cropping, creating the illusion you are closer to objects than you are as you fly over or past them.
Very cool stuff. Thanks for teaching. BTW, I love your b-roll stuff and how you make that fit the theme of your videos. 👍
thank you my friend! Ride safe. Its funny the UA-cam algorithm is now suggesting Janus motorcycle videos now that I watched your episode. Love it.
Top video, Ted. Lots of useful info here for those of us who are really amateurish droners. Going to dig out some of my older files and try these tips out, because I love to tell a story with my videos, but don't always know how best to go about it. 👍👍👍
hey Paddy. Thanks for the kind words. Yes storytelling is the main skill everyone wants to acquire. Technology has made capturing beautiful cinematic footage super fast & easy. But shooting & editing for good storytelling will always be a sought after skill. I’m new to this as well, but I can say it does get easier the more you practice. I’m going to do another episode on this: using the drone as a storytelling machine.
@@TedNemeth Looking forward to that.👍
Pretty cool! 😀👍
right on! Thank you Lynn
Around 4:00 you explain your preference for doing the crop in editing. Counterpoint: Benefit of doing it in flight is that you don't lose quality from the crop.
hello my friend! You are absolutely correct. Drone cinematographers/photographers should always frame their scene as best as possible while in-flight. But some fine tuning (cropping) will usually be needed. To confirm your point, yes minimal cropping is the goal, so resolution is maintained. But it’s my opinion that beginners aren’t viewing cropping as an essential composition tool to eliminate distracting elements in their scenes. I think I’ll do an entire episode dedicated just to explaining the importance of cropping in drone cinematography.
@@TedNemeth Sounds great! Love your positive vibes, and looking forward to the cropping-video.
yep thanx Ted I notice you're using Lumifusion and I figured out that trick after watching this video 🤙
hey Jimmy! Isn’t Lumafusion the best. Love it. Editing with a touch screen is so fast, easy, fun. What type of shots do you like to capture with your drone?
@@TedNemeth how’s it going Ted love all the content and I use Lumifusion mostly on my MacBook and I like to capture cityscapes and some Sierra mountains where my brother lives and I have a mini 2 and just got a air 2s and love them both …soon to get part 107 🤙

bonjour mon ami. Merci.
You have great content. Love it
Impressed about cropping trick - not available on iMovie for iPhone - would it be available on iMovie for iPad?
Some truly awesome footage here Ted.
More frames means smoother, so why use 24fps? 🤔
Its literally the worst frame rate setting.
(runs away and hides 😅)
Anywho, great tutorial Ted, its something I use regularly.
Shooting in 4k gives lots of zoom potential, 200% in this tool is still 1080p
hey Graham! I agree with you 24fps is less sharp but I actually like that look for shots like this. DJI footage can be a little overly sharp, ….kinda too digital looking.
Normally on a windy day I would shoot both 24fps and 60fps then slow it down to minimize the shaking from the wind. But I only own 1 battery for the Mini 3 and it died before I could go back and record all the flight paths in 60fps. Dang.
Absolutely gorgeous.
Perfect music perfect little wind howl.
I was just curious.
What editing software do you use ?
I use Corel VSP
Also Power Director
Plus I love using audacity to do some final audio editing. I must get back to your movie now.

Ke
Keith I use an editing program called LUMAFUSION. I absolutely love it.
Really like the idea here, but must be something unique to your editor because I can find no way to get crop to work differently in different frames, it is either cropped or not throughout the entire clip. I'm using Movavi, but do have DaVinci Resolve just not familiar with it. Your thoughts appreciated.
hey buddy! I have no experience with either of those editing programs. The function of zooming in using key frames is a super basic function. I use LUMAFUSION for editing. Highly recommend it for is simplicity, speed & great functionality.

Hi, I've recently become a fan of yours. Just tell me, what software do you use for editing your videos?
Christian welcome aboard my friend! Hey i loved your Vienna nights shots. Why no new episodes? Would love to see.
The editing program I use is LUMAFUSION. I absolutely love it.

Was in Namibia a few weeks ag with hundreds of straight miles of cool railroad tracks. @@TedNemeth
Really smart video. I do have a question though: Why autoexposure setting?
hey my flying filmmaker friend! I HIGHLY encourage everyone to use auto exposure in their drone. I use it 100% on all my professional shoots. Its a long explanation. I go through it beautifully in this episode: ua-cam.com/video/9Ah5S_wGyGw/v-deo.html
I would love to hear your thoughts!
@@TedNemeth thanks on the swift reply. I will watch it and share my thoughts 🙏🏼
Great video, can you share a link as to where you got the old film look? at the 6:38 mark.
hey Lance! Absolutely. Here you go:
ua-cam.com/video/zgZTLwen240/v-deo.html
My suggestion is to just set screen resolution to highest level then screen record the video as it plays. Then just overlay onto your editing timeline.
Thanks for watching Lance!
Simple but effective, i already used the vertigo effect few times, and i noticed that it’s better to use it with backward mouvement(drone) what do you think? I can’t wait to see your next stop! 🤩
hey Sid! Thank you for watching. I agree the backwards shot seems to add to the odd-ness of the dolly zoom. Just as was done in the famous movie scene in Jaws.
Super tutorial. But why you didnt use 30fps or 60fps?
hello my friend. i use 24fps instead of 30fps because its just slightly less sharp. I think DJI footage is already a little too sharp/digital looking for my taste. When its windy like this I usually shoot both 24fps and 60fps because the slow motion can definitely help in smoothing out the wind bumps. But my 1 battery died before I could shoot all the 60fps versions.
What are you thoughts on just running a forward shot backwards during editing as opposed to trying to fly backwards for a shot?
Hey Brian. I know what you mean. I think i remember trying that in the edit of a scene for some reason and it worked great. Just have to make sure there’s no bird flying backwards or people walking backwards in the shot. But little tricks like that happen frequently. There’s no rules! And it’s 100% free to experiement with digital.
Hey thanks for watching my goofy little tutorials. I truly appreciate it.
@@TedNemeth they are fun to watch!
I am new to drones and even less experienced in photography. Do you have a recommendation for editing software for mac that is intuitive enough for a beginner like myself?
hey Jim! I use an editing program called LUMAFUSION. It is an ipad only app. But it can now be used on Apple computers that have the new M1 chip, I believe. LUMAFUSION is outstanding. Super fast & easy to use.
Ohhh man, where you been amigo, 😎🙏
hey Jesus! I am still in California. It has been a bonkers 3 weeks. I get back to New York tomorrow. I’m planning a trip into Brooklyn about 2 weeks later. Dude! The Indian Larry motorcycle block party is next week actually! I might try to make it. You should DEFINITELY go. Those are my people!
@@TedNemeth ohhh cool, I will try, I hope we meet. 😎
Hi Ted, which editing software did you use?
hey buddy! I use LUMAFUSION. Absolutely love it. What are you currently using?
How would you edit that vertigo shot in Final Cut Pro?
hey Dennis. any editing program can do this effect. I have never tried Final Cut. But it’s a simple crop, in the opposite direction of the camera movement. So if the drone is moving backward, you want to crop in at the same speed as the drone is moving backward.
Hard to explain via text.
So what editing app are you using. Just got my first drone and need a better editing free app
