CHECKLIST: HOW TO ANALYZE A DRONE SCENE:
🔸Find a clear singular subject for the purpose of practicing composition
-If you can’t find a strong subject, make yourself the subject
-it is NOT a selfie. You are practicing the core skills of storytelling
🔸Study how the light is hitting your subject
-reposition the drone so the sunlight is accentuating the best features of your subject
-consider returning to the scene when the sun is in a different position
🔸Identify elements in your scene that ADD to the narrative of your subject
-try to keep these elements in the scene
🔸Identify elements in your scene that DISTRACT from the subject
-this is the hardest step for us drone cowboys because of just how common ugly elements
are like power line, telephone poles, parked cars, advertisements, politicians, etc.

"The Art of the Flying Camera - Drone Masterclass" by Ted Nemeth is simply the best! Thank you Ted for all that you do for us here in the community. I am 10 years older than you. Though I've always had a creative mindset, and always thought I would be good at photography, I let the intimidation of the camera stop me. Quite frankly - it still does using a DSLR camera. It wasn't until my first drone in 2019 that I discovered just how much I enjoy photography. Especially from an aerial perspective. I'm discovering that drone shots don't necessarily have to be at a "high" altitude in order to get that nice "drone shot." Just elevate, acquire good composition and lighting - and BOOM - the shots are captured.
Thank you again for your tireless work that you share with all of us. It does not go unnoticed. 🤙

Hi Ted. Narrative is everything. We go out on some outdoor adventure and often we get great shots but have a time trying to put it all together into some sort of narrative that is compelling for the viewer, otherwise they click off. The real joy (after catching the footage) is stitching it together to tell an interesting story. Sometimes the finished story is completely different from what we had planned before we set out because nature and fortune are fickle.

I know your problem and have suffered from curious but friendly onlookers who just want to chat. My solution is to bring a friend along to protect you from 'stranger danger' Someone who can deflect the curious - ideally a person who knows a bit about the hobby and the device and can answer questions and chat. For me it's my partner, but if that's not possible maybe just a friend who wants a trip along. Other than that, try to distance yourself as far as possible away from the crowds, but I know that' not always possible.
