I had a lady die on board in Business Class. SFO to FRA they thought she was sleeping but she could not be awaken for breakfast service.
So sad 😢
@@x2fli That is soooo sad, unfortunately there are instances where passengers pass away during flight. As flight attendants we cannot pronounce death (as we are not doctors etc) but sometimes things like this do happen. Hope she is resting in peace. Thank you for your comment.
Jetting Julia I went to DC about 4 years ago. I loved it. Julia on my flight from DFW-ICN I LEFT my charge in one of the storage compartments in business class. Can I do something about it, or shall I just let it go? Any advice you give me would be appreciated.
Marcy Rubio the only suggestion I have is to contact the lost and found department for the ICN airport, more than likely it might be gone by now though 😢 I’m sorry!
Yeah I was in PHL going to RDU on your airline actually and we were taxiing and before we could take off a passenger (I think) passed out and then woke up really not feeling well. We got back to the gate and he was taken off the flight by paramedics. He was fine just really not feeling well I believe. As far as DC, with me living in the northeast, I have been there many times and it is one of my favorite places to visit. Loved the video!
As a registered nurse, I was able to help once when a passenger on my flight from Anchorage to Portland started experiencing a cardiac event. I was impressed by the professionalism of the flight crew. We did not have to divert as we were within 20-30 minutes of arrival. The captain radioed ahead, and medics met us at the gate. Last I heard, the passenger was rushed to surgery and was doing well.

My name is Eric I live in Oregon I am a big fan I am an avid disabled travel er and always wanted to be a fight attendant but I can't due to FAA rules so I became a travel agent in 92 I work now in customer service for public transportation.
I wanted to thank you for being a FA and flying for those who can't.
In 2009 while on business flying from JFK to PHL I did not know I needed a lift boarding a smaller plane and it was raining hard at night I screamed for FA to help me and she pulled me from the stairs Into the aircraft and the funniest part was when we got to PHL the put me in a chair to take me on the lift and I looked like Hanable Lector LOL
I owe FA my life for real when you have a rough day think of me and how grateful I will always be.

Thank you for touching on the medical emergencies! Also, I had a funny experience there in DC. I visited there back in the summer of 1999 (yeah, I’m hinting my age 😉) with some friends, one of which recently had immigrated to the states. So we had to visit the immigration office. Afterwards we did some sight seeing. It was somewhere around the Lincoln Memorial where we spotted a man dressed in a Scottish kilt. He was heading for a park bench directly across from us. One of the guys in our small group said “Lets watch and see if he knows how to sit with a dress on!” Lo and behold, he apparently had no training in such a simple maneuver. Thankfully the bare essentials were covered. Lol!

DC is certainly a fascinating city. I’m blessed to get to visit often. There’s so much to see and do. I witnessed a medical emergency about two years ago on a flight from London to Baltimore. We were diverted to Rejkyavik in Iceland. The flight crew seemed calm and clear and I know that they ultimately saved this guys life. He was having a heart attack. It’s at moments like that, that I realise how grateful to you guys we should be.
Simon Davey DC was so much fun! I’m excited to hopefully go back one day. WOW kudos to that amazing crew, that’s an incredible story! That’s a major diversion but I’m so happy to hear that the passenger ended up being okay. We are all here for service but the passengers safety comes first! ✈️
I remember once leaving from Cancun, a man on my flight just before boarding had a medical emergency on the plane. They asked for doctors and finally the ambulance came, really scary experience honestly. Luckily the plane was still at the gate and not in midair or his outcome could’ve been much worse. It's so nice that you take the time to get out and explore the city that you are in for a layover. When you have time, I would highly recommend that you visit the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. Be sure to see whatever movie they are showing in their IMAX theater. They also have a museum out at Dulles Airport that has real planes in a giant hanger. They have the Concorde there! Don't know if you ever have layovers at Dulles. It is about a 35 minute drive from D.C. (27 miles), depending on the traffic! How do you deal with a passenger suffering from severe fear of flying or having an anxiety/panic attack? Would be interested in what your company recommends. Thanks for another enjoyable program. I know you mentioned about a vacation in August, be sure to have a great time with Eric! I would LOVE to see the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum, it's definitely on my list for next time! Thanks for the awesome tips. So with anxiety/panic attacks (has happened while I was working before) we do our best to help the passenger remain calm. Sometimes that's having them talk to the captain, letting them move around in the galley so they don't feel so confined, cool towel on the forehead, helping them with inflight entertainment for distraction etc. Yes we leave for vacation in 7 days I am SO EXCITED! I will definitely be vlogging our entire trip, thank you so much for your comment and for watching!

I haven’t had any medical emergencies in flight, but a gentleman did had to be carried out in an ambulance 10 minutes before boarding. I’m flying to Charlotte on Wednesday from Nassau. Can’t wait!😊

Hi Julia!, I was almost a medical emergency once, in 2014 I was minutes away from death by respiratory failure if my family hadn't found me and called EMS I would not have survived. Several months after recovery I was on a flight from Las Vegas to Houston, I alerted a flight attendant explained that I did not want to be the cause of a diversion but that I was having difficulty breathing. The flight attendant went into the cockpit spoke with the captain and on her return explained that they would offer me oxygen if I requested it. I made it home to Austin and got myself to a hospital. But I was grateful for the crews offer of assistance. .

Thank you for sharing your story Larry, that's incredible! We are all so lucky to still have you here with us! Oxygen is a very common in flight treatment we will give to passengers who are having trouble breathing I'm glad they were able to help you!

One time a guy passed out in the middle of the flight in F. I was sitting in row 1 on a A321 and all the flight crew was in the back. So I went and notified the f/a's. They were so calm and professional
The lincoln Memorial is where my husband proposed to me on a a big holiday to DC and Nashville!
Was on a flight from Calgary to Cancun. There was a family of Philipino’s going to a family wedding. An older (70’s?) Auntie went into cardiac arrest. Although several individuals tried to help (a nurse and a medic, who just happened to be in that flight), the woman passed away. We had to make a non scheduled/approved stop in New Orleans. They removed her (and one family member). Our flight was delayed by 5 hrs. Very sad.

Many years ago I had been on a flight when one of the passengers had become emotionally distressed. The passenger’’s mom was very ill and the passenger got upset. I think the passenger was on her way to visiting her very ill mom. The Flight Attendant did an impressive job by bringing the passenger up front to sit by the flight attendant and calmed the passenger down. It was an impressive way to handle the situation and I admired the flight attendant’s professionalism.

When I was a manger at retail store one of my younger employees fainted mid shift, and I had to call an ambulance. She was dehydrated from running earlier in the day, but it was quite the sight. Definitely made me nervous but we got through it and she was able to work the following week.

I was going to Nashville we had sick elderly lady so we did a emergency landing in Knoxville. That was my first flight ever when I was 5
Years ago I was flying home from Dubai to LAX. The plane was diverted to Edmonton Alberta because of a medical emergency, where a passenger was let off. The pilot explained what happened when we made it to L.A. A passenger couldn't remove her wedding ring and her finger became extremely swollen. A doctor on board looked at it, and said the ring needed to be cut-off as soon as possible or she could lose her finger. We land in Edmonton, let the passenger off, and continued on our way to L.A. The pilot said the passenger was doing O.K. at the hospital after they cut-off her ring. Anyway, no biggie, but if she got divorced before the flight, this whole problem wouldn't have happened. :/
Great travel vlog, but just a remark, if I may: The title of your video is "How we handle medical emergencies..." You start talking about this topic at the 7:30 mark, until 8:55 - in a 10-minute video (after saying "there are certain things we can do, and certain things we cannot do" for the 3rd time in the video). This being said, I just subscribed and I can't wait to see your channel grow :)

Way back in mid 80s we were going down and could not get my ears to clear. I was in bad pain. I have over 4000 flight hours combat and peace time flying. I flew right seat OV-1Mohawks. My job was doing surveillance EW. It took a am-boo bag and drink of water to get them to clear. My spell is out the wind. I was a EMT2 at the time.
We were flying back from Disney a few years back and all of the sudden we heard a commotion in the back of the plane. The flight attendants raced back. A request for any medical help on board was made. They never made an announcement, but I could tell after a bit we were descending rather quickly. We landed in Alabama and the passenger was met on the runway by an ambulance.
Oh my goodness! Usually an announcement is definitely made but in certain circumstances/not enough time sometimes these decisions are made very quickly in the best interest of the passenger. I hope they were okay!

On medical emergencies: do you have some means to help people who are experiencing travel sickness or low blood sugar or allergies? How do you handle passengers who get severely drunk or suspectedly took drugs before or during a flight? To what extent is a passenger allowed to bring medicine of his own? (I'm currently taking anti-depressants twice a day, for example.)
Being a Red Cross volunteer I'd probably tell the flight attendants if I ever should board a plane once more. (I actually decided to learn more about first aid after witnessing how a sick person and her partner were left alone on a train - I who was intending to board the train was the first person to indicate the emergency to the railway staff when the train almost was about to leave the station again ...)
I was actually just on a flight last week and a girl was having a seizure. It was scary but the flight attendants handled it well.
In over 5000 hours as a C-130 loadmaster I never had to deal with a medical emergency. I was on an Alaska Airlines flight out of ANC when there was one onboard. We had just pushed back and the pilots were starting the engines when a passenger staggered toward the front of the aircraft and collapsed by the boarding door. We taxied back to the gate, where paramedics removed the man from the aircraft. We then departed about 30-40 late. We never did find out what the problem was, but I didn't smell any alcohol on him as he passed by, so I assume it was a real medical emegency.

One thing I would do is a night tour because at night the monuments are so beautiful in DC at night especially the World War II monument
I was on a flight once that we ended up having to have a emergency landing. A passenger was having a hard time breathing. Another flight we had someone have a seizure mid flight.

Had a recent medical emergency on the way to HKG. The decision was made to divert to Bejing. It was not a good decision due to no visas and the inability of the local emergency medical staff to help the pax. Had we continued on to HKG it would have had the same outcome and the pax would have had a shot at making it to her ultimate destination.

I was on a flight from Barcelona to Chicago and a man passed out onto the flight attendant right next to my row! He ended up being ok, and we didn’t have to divert, thankfully!
I was on a BA flight from SFO to LHR (London). After dinner, a heavyset man two rows behind me experienced a massive heart attack and died. The plane continued to LHR and they made everybody sit until the dead man was taken off the plane. So goes life....!
I was sitting next to a lady flying from Dulles to Newark, I was worried about her and told the flight attendant and she had to be evaluated by the EMTs at the gate.
Thank you for alerting the flight attendants about her, sometimes we only know these things from passengers like you!

Yes Florida to Puerto Rico my father in law passed out on the plane. They asked where we wanted him to be seen sense we were half way. My sister in law ended up on my lap so my father in law could lay down.
I wave to share a story w/ you. A long time ago on one of my first flights on a very large plain I got sick after eating breakfast. As we were coming in it was very rough & we hit an air pocket causing the plain to drop suddenly just before touching down. I became sick & used the air sick bag & then put it under the seat in front of me. Afterwards as we were going down the jet way a young girl taped me on the shoulder & said you forgot your bag & then handed it to me. I was inberested.

My son has severe food allergies and is anaphylactic so I’m always nervous when we fly. I hope to never have to use the EPI Pen. He is allergic to nuts so flying is hard for us. 😢
Jeanette Wittmann nut allergies are definitely scary when flying! It is good that you bring the EPI pen with you in case of an emergency. I would suggest to always wipe down the seat/tray table of your row when you are flying to be extra careful! Thanks for watching and safe travels for you and your son 🙂
Yes, we do wipe down and take the EPI pen EVERYWHERE. We usually fly Delta and they let us pre-Board to wipe everything down. We also call ahead and request no nuts to be served on the flight.

On route from Italy to JFK, someone got a heart ❤️ attack and died when my Mom flew. She said they covered the passenger until landing. 🥀

That’s nothing to be embarrassed about, it happens quite often. If you are having an anxiety attack make sure to ring your flight attendant call button or go into the galley in the back to ask for help 🙂 well do our best to assist you!

One time I was on a TWA flight that went from San Francisco to Saint Louis and Saint Louis to Boston. We had to divert to Denver. Another time I was on a flight from Tel Aviv to Philadelphia and also from Istanbul to San Francisco. Both were over the Atlantic. No diverting, luckily. The people looked fragile. Not sure why they were cleared to fly. Also, if you’re that pregnant, you shouldn’t be flying. I have been to D.C. lots of times.
Diversions can be for both medical reasons and also weather! Luckily you didn't have to divert on the super long flights. Sometimes people can go into pre-term labor while flying, it's rare but it does happen. Thanks for watching!
I always wonder how people with peanut allergies deal with the potential of airlines serving peanuts. Maybe someone can let me know if they look it up ahead of time or what?
Eric Kronenberg I know that my airline doesn’t serve any peanuts but we always allow passengers to clean/wipe down their seats if they feel necessary. I know southwest used to serve peanuts but I’m not sure if they do anymore. Passengers/crew can also ask passengers surrounding the person with a peanut allergy that if they have peanuts with them to kindly keep a distance or not eat them on the flight, although we can’t force anyone to not eat the food they brought onboard!
Eric Kronenberg Recently on a Southwest flight they were serving pretzels instead of peanuts because someone had an allergy.
I was in flight about to land in one hour in Mexico and I went to back to the restroom and I helped the flight attendant take out a oxygen mask/ tank and she gave it to a man that didn’t feel well.

Pure curiosity here but in terms of in flight emergencies, say someone was having a potential heart attack or stroke and there's no doctor on the flight, obviously you'd be redirected to the closest airport but you'd obviously not leave the passenger alone while they're suffering. What would be the procedure in handling this situation until the plane is landed?
