To think that Kerry Livgren (who wrote it - it started as a exercise so he could learn fingerpicking) didn't want to play it for Kansas because he wasn't sure they would even want to do this type of song. After he played it for the other members of Kansas, they sat in silence and asked, "Kerry, where has this been?"
Great reaction Aaliyah! The members of Kansas, like many bands in the 70's and 80's, were so talented. Many could play more than one instrument and many were good vocalists as well as instrumentalists. Most of their careers were spent performing live on tours and at events. An era when talent, not technology, reigned supreme!
ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED CLASSIC ROCK VOCALISTS AND ORGAN (KEYBOARD 🎹, ) MUSICIANS LEFT AROUND IF HE'S STILL PERFORMING 🎭 WAKE UP ROCK AND ROLL( HALL OF FAME)RIP ROBBIE 🎻 STEVE WALSH ROCKS 🎤 KANSAS SHOULD BE IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME.....................
I have always loved this song for it's simplicity of form, and the implications of the lyrics. The best music is simple but has philosophical depth. Nice reaction Aaliyah.
Thank you for reacting to this song Aaliyah! It is a classic rock masterpiece that touches the soul. It is nice to see you get emotional like the rest of when we hear this song.
Oh I bet you would love more Kansas songs, and they had a lot of hits and some really Innovative material. But they really knew how to rock as well. "Point of No Return" from their iconic Point of Know Return album. Fantastic story and well composed Song and more incredible singing. So good. It was a huge hit. "He Knew" is a great little banger, another hit, and it's about Leonardo da Vinci of all things!
This song began as a fingerpicking exercise, Kerry Livgren (Blonde Guitarist) wanted to work on that particular technique so he came up with this melody. His wife heard him playing it and suggested he make a song out of it. So, what started out as a fingerpicking exercise became their biggest hit, Kerry Livgren was incredibly prolific in the 70s, he's an amazing songwriter. Great reaction!
This is actually a heavy song lyrically, it’s about how so many things we wrap our lives up with don’t mean anything in the grand scheme of things. The line that’s so powerful to me is all your money won’t another minute buy.
This song and Carry On Wayward Son were played at my good friend's funeral back in 1977!!!!! Such a moving song with lots of emotions!!!!! Thank you for what you do!!!!!
Not many reactors would take the time to learn the names of the players and singers. Another fine reaction, keep up the great work.

In his prime, Steve Walsh was one of the best voices in rock. This song started as a finger-picking exercise for Kerry Livgren. His wife suggested he turn it into a song and a classic was born. I get chills every time I hear it and I am old enough to remember when this song was released.
You can see it in your face the respect you have for music no matter what genre it is. 70s classic rock had so much talent and freedom to write what they wanted to not what the record company wanted. Maybe one day you can react to Led Zeppelin Stairway to Heaven album version.
Hi Aaliyah I'm Tim a 66 year old musician and have been involved in music since I was 15. of course this song is great & "Cary on Wayward Son" is also. I have been into 1920s through the 2000s music and it's can be musically soothing or heart pumping, it can depend on your mood
Back in the day when they were touring this album, for some reason Kansas NEVER played in Nebraska. I lived there so a buddy and I had to go to Red Rocks (Colorado/God's Cathedral). Very well worth the trip and a nice ride on a couple of Harleys with our girls. 600 miles round trip with roughly $1.00 gas🤩🤩 I've seen them since then with the new band members in Reno (former Harrah's outdoor venue) Still killin' it. I still have this LP./Album. Carry on Wayward Sun. Point of Know Return. "All your money won't another minute buy".

Great reaction. It’s a beautiful song with a message that’s timeless. It’s kind of serious too. It’s strange how musicians never write pop songs with seriousness, or any sense of gravitas these days. Thanks!🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵
Aaliya, given that you mentioned that you like modern music with classical elements you might check out the group Renaissance. They are a British progrock band from the 1970s with American lead singer Annie Haslam who had a crystal clear five-octave voice. They combined elements of classical, rock, folk, and jazz influences. Three of my favorite Renaissance songs include Ashes Are Burning, Mother Russia, and Carpet of the Sun
Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights Scorpions - Still Loving You James Brown and Pavarotti - mans world The irrepressibles - In this Shirt - mirror mirror Mondo Cane - Deep Deep Down
This wonderful channel is now in my top two favorite reaction channels on UA-cam! Aaliyah, you have the most wonderful smile I have ever seen. We would love to see you react to The Doobie Brothers next, perhaps "Listen to the Music" music video. 🎵🎼
Aaliyah, you should react to more songs in the Progressive Rock genre. It fits in well with your Operatic/Classical training as many of the musicians have classical and operatic training as well and mixed it with the energy of Rock.
Aaliyah, check out a singer named Laura Nyro. She had an amazing voice as well as piano and songwriting skills. In one verse she'll sound like the most soulful R&B singer and then she'll hit operatic notes that could shatter glass. I recommend "Eli's Coming" "Stoned Soul Picnic" or the live TV version of "Save The Country".
The band Shooting Star from Kansas City also features a violinist. My favorite song is “Flesh and Blood”. Their song, “Last Chance”, from their 1980 debut album shot to #1 in the United States in radio play but due to infighting between their record company Virgin and their distribution Atlantic Records, they had ZERO records in the stores! They got totally screwed by their record company! Links below. These are EPIC songs! You will not be disappointed. I promise. 😊 “Flesh and Blood” ua-cam.com/video/8WUd6tytonU/v-deo.htmlsi=obOlDsAQzg5tLEG9 “Last Chance” ua-cam.com/video/l5BqpvcWuyo/v-deo.htmlsi=IYnbIUoxA46HCmF6
If you haven't listened to or broke down the music of the Beach Boys I recommend Beach Boys - Don't Worry Baby Please add this to your video line up. Would love to see you smile as you listen to it.
i love the fact most people today would look at a picture of these guys and would think they were some dumb brutes and yet they could do things such as this and put to shame lots of current music writers :P
Love your reactions. If you like traditionally classical instruments making appearances in different genres, check out Locomotive Breath by Jethro Tull, I think you will be surprised.
Yes, it's a beautiful song alright - goosebumps a-plenty! One of my favorites. But dang, is it depressing. Don't listen t o it if you are already depressed and considering doing something drastic.

I’m glad I have gotten to experience so many of that type of song in my lifetime❤
You cannot go wrong with 70s prog rock ❤
I agree, it's hauntingly beautiful..
Thanks so much for sharing💕
Steve is built like a rugby player and sings like an angel.
Amazing song. Truly.
20 years old though, good Lord, I was 20 a couple days ago and I blinked and I’m in my 40’s. Ugh. Life is just a flash.
🥰🥰🥰
Oldies' music gives you a feeling that today's music can't ever give you.

One of the most perfect songs ever written! Thanks for the reaction!
Love your reaction. Steve's voice is incredible. The guitar and violin parts are superb.
Your positivity just radiates through the computer screen. This has long been one of my favourite songs, it's just a brilliant piece of music.
An amazing song that definitely stands the test of time. Another reason why the 70's had some of the very best music.
Saw them about 20 years ago at a classic rock festival. Wow❤👍🤘
My favorite song from them and second is "People of the South wind" third is "Carry on my wayward son". Glad you are enjoying them.
Thanks so much for watching too🥰🥰🥰

One of the best acoustic songs
This song hits especially hard if your loved ones have passed away. It kinda reminds us that our time on this earth is a fleeting one.
Awesome song ❤❤

I've always liked this song. Kansas has great music. Happy your enjoying it, and as always, great reaction😊
Portrait is another meaningful song from Kansas.
It's a song about the fleetingness of life and how the things we chase in life (money, fame etc) are impermanent.
This is one of my all time favourites

Robbie was classically trained. His father was a professor of music at the University of Kansas and I believe Robbie played in Europe as a child.

Lots of fond memories of listening to Kansas. Had a Kansas T shirt I wore often in school. Beautiful reaction for a touching song
One of the classic song by Kansas. "Song For America" is another classic and masterpiece song. Maybe you'll like the song as much as I do.
On a humorous note, Will Farrell's character in the movie Old School sings this at Blue's funeral. Pretty funny.
The music was so good in the day,, no one writes like that no more,,,,,

love your analysis & enthusiasm. I suggest as song called These Days by a group called New Grass Revival. Great lead vocals and killer harmonies

Gorgeous song. I was getting misty with you while watching your reaction Aaliyah.
On the day this song was recorded Steve Walsh was probably the best vocalist (of this genre) in the world. Well done Steve, Kansas.
Robby started violin lessons at age eight and was classically trained.
