  • In this video, I delve into the exciting world of potential specs and features of the Sony RX1R III, a camera that aims to go head-to-head with the Leica Q3.
    A Long-Awaited Competitor
    Sony has catered to a wide range of photography needs, but one gap remains to be filled - a direct competitor to the Leica Q3. The Sony RX1R III is rumored to be the solution to this, potentially offering photographers a compact, high-resolution, 35mm full-frame camera that can rival the best.
    Cutting-Edge Improvements
    From what we've heard, Sony is pulling out all the stops to make the RX1R III a true powerhouse. The camera is expected to feature a brand new autofocus system, promising lightning-fast and precise focusing for both photography and video shooting. Additionally, the video specs are rumored to be greatly improved, opening up exciting possibilities for content creators.
    Redefining Optics
    Photographers can't wait to see what Sony has in store for the RX1R III's lens. The expectations are high, with some speculating the possibility of an all-new 35mm fixed lens with a wider aperture, delivering stunning image quality and beautiful bokeh. This enhancement could elevate the RX1R III to new heights in the world of compact cameras.
    Enhanced User Experience
    Sony is known for pushing boundaries when it comes to user experience, and the RX1R III is likely to be no exception. We anticipate a new flip-style screen that enhances flexibility in shooting angles and composition, along with a permanent electronic viewfinder (EVF) to make capturing images even more seamless.
    Completing the Sony Ecosystem
    The RX1R III could be the missing piece in Sony's diverse camera lineup, fulfilling the need for a compact, high-resolution, full-frame camera. This addition would complete their ecosystem, offering photographers and videographers an array of options for every creative endeavor.
    Sooner Than You Think!
    Rumors are circulating about Sony's new full-frame camera, and all signs point to the imminent arrival of the RX1R III. With the recent releases of other advanced cameras, the anticipation for the RX1R III is higher than ever.

      I have both the q3 have some limited advantages but the rx still superior in afc and eye af and many other aspects. Batteries are cheap to get. the only reasons sony didn't put out the rx1r iii is that the mark ii still superior or in paar to everything around.

      Just to add some info to your video.
      - The rx1r ii is way tinier as the q3 (i own both)
      - battery life isn't so terrible if one set the camera properly. In general is suffer more if stay long in stanby. With a battery i get 200/300 fotos which isn't bad. For a full day shooting 5 to 6 batteries are needed
      - the camera is 1mm thicker of the z batteries, so i hope that they increse the size max 20%. To keep it small. The lens altough good need image stabilization and new motors. So it should be redesigned. I do hope they leave it with the same design. The pop up could be fixed and sturdy and integrate a flash. Ae-l butto replaced with a joystick, pop up mechanism for a 3 or 2 way selector for drive mode (singleshot, multiple shot af, multipleshot af firstframe)
      - One fn button on the exposure compensation wheel and one on the af-c af-s selector
      -manual focus switch like in the leica q

      Nope. 35mm is a deal breaker for me. I have a Q2 and 47MP allows for a very nice 35mm crop. 60MP will be even better but not that critical. I waited for the Q2 over the Q because 24MP was not good enough to crop a lot. Q2 made up for that. The lens is so bloody sharp it is ridiculous. My Q3 is on order because of the better low light and autofocus performance than the Q2.

    The RX1-R is not slightly smaller - it is *significantly* smaller, in feel, actual dimensions and weight. I sold my old RX1-R mark I when I bought a Q2M, and still haven't forgiven myself. The Q series are wonderful cameras, but you cannot beat the color rendering and compactness of the RX-1.

    I have the RX1RII sitting on my desk. Two things:
    1) It's battery life is bad when you're taking photos (especially in cold weather). But on standby (i.e. on but screen off) it lasts for ever. At least all day.
    2) It's significantly smaller and lighter than the Leica Q series.

      I have both, the mk i and II. The autofocus on the mkII is pretty good, especially for its age. On the mkI its not so good, but usable. Both, but especially the mkI with its contras AF System only got its problems in low light situation. But they both make stunning pictures. There is something special about that lens. Wide open the RX1s are pretty champions. The transition from Focus to out of focus really is special. The Battery-Problem can be managed with a lot of batteries. These things are everywhere and cheap.

Maybe a form of torture: "ooo Leica, what Top Trump are we going to place in front of you!" 😁 It's kind of like that in this: "money no object, über posh compact" sector isn't it! Though, seriously speaking, I love these cameras: I sold up all my Nikon kit as I was getting less time for my photography (work getting in the way), and, I was getting a bit bored carrying around heavy kit everywhere I went, so I decided I would specialise, as a fresh challenge: limit myself to one fixed focal length, see what I could do. Looked at the Q at the time, the RX1Rii, settled on the latter as I just felt it was much more camera for the money, had a better form factor (even though battery life was relatively crap, got 5 batteries!). Great machines, fun to use, inconspicuous, great for street, travel, anything you put your mind to really (except sport or a shot of Jupiter!), and fun using your feet, or going side to side to compose. Takes you back to basics in many ways. On the plus side, the absence of an RX1Riii is keeping the residual value of my ii reasonable healthy! 😂

    Sony has a terrible firmware track record with these cameras. They never update them. If you look at leica, the Q2 has become completely transformed over the years. Sony put zero effort in the RX line. I do hope the release something, as competition is good, but who’s going to spend that kind of money on a camera with no updates or support after purchase?

    I had a Sony RX1 and loved it, but it was too slow in operation. What makes you think Sony will spend resources developing an RX1R m3? It won’t compete with the Fuji x100 series or the Leica Q3. It will be priced incorrectly to compete with Fuji and Leica users will stick with Leica for a variety of reasons. If the Sony is a bit bigger with a better implementation of viewfinder (and a more attractive price), then maybe. But their menus are still too complex.

I dumped the Sony and kept the Leica Q and have a Leica Q3 on order. I think Sony missed the boat on the fixed lens full frame camera. I disagree with most of what you have said. 😅
    Designing a camera is not about “I want this and that…”. It’s about market needs.
    I am sure Sony has done its own extensive research. If possible, I’d want an updated compact RX VIII too. But seeing the roadmap of Sony, you kinda guess that’s not going to happen.
    Think about it. The RX1R II is already 8 years old. Why hasn’t there been any update for so long? That’s likely because Sony has since released the A7C which fills that gap.
    I don’t see why Sony would want to cannibalise that great camera with a newer version of the RX1R II.
    Why would you not want to accept or look forward to a new A7C? Just because the lens is interchangeable? What’s wrong with that?
    It makes sense for Leica to produce the Q3 because they don’t have an extensive line of cameras like Sony. The Q3 is also their exquisite non-interchangeable lens camera.
    Why does Sony have to blindly follow Leica?
    I find it puzzling why you even want an internal memory “just because the Leica has a 64GB in-built memory”. High speed, large memory SD cards are so readily available today!
    In effect, whatever you went on and on in this video hoping to see in an the elusive RX1R III could have easily been filled by the A7C line.
    Don’t be too fixated with the fact that you could change lenses with it. It’s really a good feature to have which Leica Q3 and the Fujifilm X100V lack.

    • @GastonShutters
      @GastonShutters  Рік тому +2

      Thanks for your input. We love different perspectives in this channel. The A7Siii took 5 years to evolve from the Mark II. Cameras take time to be conceived, engineered, mass produced and release them. It safe to say that a camera can take anywhere from 24-36 months from concept to reality.
      The RX1RII was not as popular as other cameras from Sony at that time. Consumer’s requirements were different than now.
      Leica has proven that there is a market for it.
      Even the Leica Q when it was first released wasn’t as popular as the Q2 or Q3. Markets change so how companies prioritize products also change to respond to a need in the market.
      It took Apple to release the iPhone for everyone to realize that phones had to change.
      I see it now that it took for Fuji with the X100 line, Leica to release the Q2 and Q3 and a bunch of TikTokers for the market to realize that’s there is a whole group of consumers ready for a product like that.

      @GastonShutters  Рік тому +3

      I shot with Leica Q2, now Q3 and M11 and I don’t see any easier than Sony raw files. In fact I notice that Sony raws have greater recoverability of highlights whereas with Leica DNGs I usually have to under expose.

      I don't have any Leica to compare its raw, but but I have several SONY Body's, including the A1. The raw files are very easy to use, and need also hardly any correction, if you know how to use your cameras. I am using C1.

    • @GastonShutters
      @GastonShutters  11 місяців тому

      Yeah the way Sony RAW files handle dynamic range is more balanced. Meaning that it doesn’t favor the shadows mainly like Leica does and thus getting more recoverability in highlights. I may do a test video about it

    • @GastonShutters
      @GastonShutters  Рік тому +3

      hehehe. I shoot with both. Had a Q2, Now a Q3 and M11. Leica's are a different breed of cameras. Or at least in comparison to modern standards. Their lenses have not changed their optical formula much, from the film days which is why you still get that retro film look when shooting with them. Even My Summicron 50mm F2 Apo is nowhere near in terms of sharpness to my Sony 50mm F1.4. I also have the Summilux 50mm and 35mm f1.4 which with those lenses you can't shoot at f1.4 unless you want tons of halation in your images, so certain lenses are a skip for portrait for me. Sony cameras makes us a bit lazy but one thing for sure is that the "keep rate" is pretty consistent whereas with Leicas you need to be willing to walk away from certain photos. Tow different animals that will produce different results. Both have their strenghts and the sony's very little weaknesses.
