    Love the LSA build. I have 3 suggestions.
    1. Have you considered a breather to get rid of crankcase pressure now that the engine is boosted?
    2. You can buy higher flowing 3/4” ZL1 lid manifolds from places like Dedicated Motorsports with AN fittings and put 90 degree fittings on for the cleaner hose running look that you are looking for.
    3. On cars like my LSA 416ci CST-V, I run the blower coolant tank to pump, pump to bottom of lid brick manifold, top of lid brick manifold to the intercooler, from intercooler back to the coolant tank. Getting the hot coolant to the heat exchanger first will cool it down faster and should keep the coolant pump and tank cooler.

    LT just a warning with the 4l60 1-2 shift. The 4x4 transmission output doesnt like jarring shifts.. if the sunshell lives, the output will break. I did it with a naturally aspirated 4.3 in an S Blazer. Had a HD2 kit and shift servos that were a bit more agressive than the one you have but you have about 4x the power lol. Just a heads up.

    Once again man..another stellar video. Love the truck. The engine bay itself after the install shows your attention to detail and love of the hobby. It's clean. Simple. But you have a truck that with some further tuning and maybe little higher octane fuel can make well over 600hp. In a short bed step side! This is the American dream truck for like the last 50 years dude. Think about it.

    I'm sure you know this,but the servo replacement should take about 20 minutes. I just set up mine for the 4l60e I am rebuilding for my Envoy XUV. I didn't install it because the trans is still apart, but it is put together and in a zip lock waiting.

  • @bdugle1
    @bdugle1 2 роки тому +1

    I’m very interested in your tuning experiences-that’s going to be me in a couple months, I hope. No supercharger, but otherwise the same process. My question is about tuning from the lean side. Goat Rope Garage suggests taking your tune (VE table) and multiplying by 1.1, ie adding 10%, as the first step so that you’re tuning from the rich side. Probably not an issue at “drivability” throttle settings, but you could hurt a supercharged engine pretty quickly at full throttle running lean while tuning. On the other hand, really nice work on the installation!

    • @LawrenceTolman
      @LawrenceTolman  2 роки тому +2

      you're absolutely correct there about running a forced induction engine too lean. When I make the first VE table in boost regions, I always over estimate how much fuel iit wants so its rich, then I have to lean it out to reach the target.

    After I put the corvette servo in my old 4l60e, it was the beginning of the end. Stock 5.3 blew it to pieces 4 times before I swapped it all out. Input/output shaft, and everything in-between broke at one point.

    • @christophermix6845
      @christophermix6845 2 роки тому +1

      Hmm interesting? I did it on my 04 z71 with headers and exhaust. No issues at all and I haven't been easy on it lol. I also have 33s, it made a huge difference the best upgrade I've done to the truck always hated the way it shifted before.
      I've got it tore apart getting ready to fix rust and paint the frame, then throw a 398 stroker in it and a performabuilt 4l60 black edition trans.

    • @mac007taz
      @mac007taz 2 роки тому

      @@christophermix6845 I think there were some golden 60es out there. I've seen a few guys pushing boost through them and they are good. But I think most of them were problematic. I have an 02 Z71, ext cab. Maybe the weight played a factor too. After the first tear down, I put in an HD2 shift kit thinking it would help. It did last about 6k miles but then I started to slip 1-2 shift and eventually lost it all. After 2 years of rebuilds, I swapped in a 403 stroker and a built 4l80e. It's awesome.

    • @christophermix6845
      @christophermix6845 2 роки тому

      @@mac007taz interesting. Performabuilt has a build video and says the main issue is the filter get clogged and the trans gets starved of fluid, he modifies the valve body and stuff to fix it. They seem to have a bullet proof 4l60. Of course the sun shell and stuff needs upgraded.
      And of course the pathetic stock tranny "Cooler" keeps the fluid nice and hot to help burn the clutches up haha.
      I was going to do the 80 swap but by the the time I get everything I need it would of cost the same as their black edition 60 which is rated for 1000hp, and I would have a lot of labor swapping the 80. And I love 60 gearing, the 80 just seems sluggish compared to the 60.
      I've almost got my 398 stroker done. What did your truck end making to the wheels?
      And what's your setup?
      Mines a LQ4 bored .30 over 3.900 stroke, JE race pistons weigh 385 grams, CNC LS3 heads,ported L92 intake manifold, Ported LS3 throttle body, 229/244 630/615 113 BTR stage 3 LS3 NA cam.

    I would also install a Transgo HD2 shift kit along with the Corvette servo to get by with the 4l60e. I Installed both on my 2004 suburbans 4l60e which has 200k on it along with a bigger tru-cool trans cooler and Amsoil transmission fluid and the transmission runs and shifts so much better, I also replaced all the shift solenoids, down shift 3-2 solenoid and PW converter solenoid along with the transmission pillow switch and updated all the accumulator pistons from the problematic plastic ones to the aluminum pistons. My trans should last for a while as long as I don't beat the hell out of it on a daily basis and drive it like a sain person plus it's a suburban, not like I am going racing with it but will tow with it here and there and is why I did all the upgrades on it.

He was given a 02 Silverado to be a donor vehicle for his 86 k5. I have completely taken out the wiring harness and plan to use most of it probably the exception would be the airbag because my son does not want to change the steering wheel. I gots a Jeep NP242 and NV242 (two heeps) and they gots a spot for 2wd. Military Humvee's also used a version and Imma guess a few parts interchange to make it do 2wd too.
    Imma also guess these new Transfer Cases do not have a 2wd position??!! how hard would it be to modify it to do that? probably don't need or want that option in a fancy car they came outta, but might be handy out on the street or snow or ice or I donno... wheelie shows! lol,

      But the air entering the cover should be at its coldest and the coolant exiting the brick as hot as possible. To me it makes sense to have the cold coolant enter the top, it should result in colder air entering the cover and hotter coolant exiting the brick.

    Hey LT, I didn’t see a check valve in your catch can lines. Just wondering if you had one built into the can itself. If there’s no check valve, you’d be pressurizing the crankcase every time you make boost.

    So cool the project is finished, it's wicked. I have a question you said you need to run premium in it now. I live in Canada we don't have E85. Low grade is 89, mid is 91, and premium is 93 octane. Are you running 93 octane in it?

    • @LawrenceTolman
      @LawrenceTolman  2 роки тому

      Where I live, the best pump gas I can get is actually 91 octane, that’s what I’m tuning in now, but timing is very conservative. so 93 would be a lot better if it were available, but of course e85 would be best of all

    Why don't you just add a whole bunch of torque management to your shift? That's how I made my 4L60E last 8 months behind my cammed 6.0 while I saved up for my 80E.
    Also, when you pull timing for shifts, you can make the shift happen faster.

      @@about2088 you might consider a performabuilt 4l60 black edition. If you're buying a rebuilt 4l80 it'll cost the same amount of money to swap a 80 by the time you everything to swap it if you're 4wd anyway. I was going to do the 80 but once I priced it all it was the same cost for parts not including labor which I would do it myself.
      And the gearing in the 80 honestly sucks compared to the 60. I've got a 2500 6.0 4l80 3:73 gears and it's a completely different truck the way it drives compared to my 1500 with the 4l60, the 4l80 gearing just makes the truck feel sluggish compared to the 1500 with the 60, example putting the 60 in gear I have my foot on the brake, the 80 i have to give it gas to get it to move, part of is the higher stall in the 80 but when accelerating the 80 holds gears a lot longer. The gearing in the 60 just seems perfect for heavy trucks.
