Great Video, please continue to do more. I already own the HS8 and love them. Getting into the world of studio monitors is a must for anyone passionate about sound.
Very well done video, thank you for all the effort. Of course it’s an impossible task to reproduce being in the room but the inclusion of the original source is very useful. The most important thing I picked up is that the Adams seem a bit excited in the top end compared to the Yamaha and the reference track.
It's so wierd how we all hear differantly as I am of the total opposite opinion and hear the Yamahas as being a bit too much in the high end compared to the Adams! Mby it's something to do with my ears being fried from 90's raves and the stupid loud atmosphere hiss in some of them old tracks lol, mby my ears can't handle dome tweaters anymore 🤣. Tbf tho, I do actually hear quite high up the frequency spectrum for my age.
I have the HS80s and the Adam A7X. The money spike is revealed in the translation to every other source. I don't even car test with the Adams, they translate to everything well. Ironically, my mixes end up sounding even better in my car after mixing through them. Yamaha's don't translate as well but they sound amazing in the studio. I check with the HS80s after I do my final mixes with the Adams monitors.
Interestly, the Yamahas were able to offer enough low end to make the wubby bass part audible, which wasn't the case for the Adams. I'm sure that the Adam's sound better overall, but the Yamahas seem to have better bass extension.
This is the reason i dont have a pair in front of me right now. I have the 1st gen m-audio bx8's till 2007 and one of them is a bit off, so i went to a store to listen to the Adams to upgrade to them. Everything sounded great except for those lows, it sounds like the graph shows in this video, everything is so nice until the 45hz drop that is huge. In tracks i ve listened i didnt feel the double bass bottom or if a kick was fighting with a 808 etc. Im going to listen the a5x with a sub and il see, cause a7x with sub are to expensive for me, i love everything else but i need to feel the low end and also have a lot of headroom as a bass player who uses them for recording and playing with my roommate who is a drummer (something i did with ease with my bx8)
Appreciate the response! I am now using a subwoofer with mine as well. I moved to a bigger room for my studio and adding a subwoofer has completely changed the sound!
@@brandenburns3322 i run it with a jbl lsr310 and it sounds good. Do I want to upgrade it to the Adam 12 inch yes but I can't justify spending so much more for a little more quaility.
No it's not you , his room is probably causing this .More bass and lower mids on the left making it seem louder , the fact that the yammys are rear ported doesn't help as well. He will need to sort out that space.
Sounds about right, my experience with the A7x's vs the avantone's is they actually sound pretty similar but the A7x have a broader range. HS8's far low end sounds exaggerated even though it has the same hole in the low mids that the adam's have. Curious lf these were all level matched.
@DodgingRain Yamaha has 8 inch speaker Adam has 7 so Yamaha will have more bottom end naturally, from other A7X reviews I've seen they say i lacks a little in the bottom end, so the Yamaha might be just about right
@@dodgingrain3695 Yeah but if you don't want your low end to sound doggo cos you forced it too much from the cab design when the cone's aren't designed to get anywhere near it, then starting off with a larger driver puts you closer to the mark. Adam probably didn't want to compromise the sound by forcing a 7 inch to go lower than it can reasonably handle whist still having tight timings for bass phase relation reasons. The Adam A8X and the HS8's go lower for this exact reason, and would be a more fair test like vs like if you're going to compare low end reach. There's a reason good quality smaller speakers roll off the low end, even though they could make them go lower with cab design.
The bass on the yamaha HS8 (which is back ported) is more present most likely due to the room and the fact it uses an 8" main vs the Adam's 7". The left leaning balance on the HS8 is also probably due to the back port interfacing with the room acoustics etc. Neither one came very close to the source tracks in this test but again is probably due to the test environment and the combined mics in the portable recorder used in the test. It is really difficult to decide on speakers based on youtube tests but the pro audio brick and mortor stores are becoming obsolete.
Actually it is an introduction more than a comparison ai believe, cos all are in different range, but still helpful and thank you, i wished you balanced the volume for each. and first reference track is great btw
Yes more of a listening test, I was in the market stuck between these moniters even though they are different ranges. These moniters are the best in there range.

In any case - both speakers mentioned are very good tools, same goes to mixcubes in their particular job. Thank you for nice comparison...
Yeah transients are so much more clear on the adams. They translate great to. What you hear is generally what you get depending on your room. Lower midrange/upper bass is more defined and is easier to find boxiness

The A7X were close but were just missing it a little. I agree however; the mid and highs are slightly clearer with the A7X. The Adam A7x sounded the best of the three. I own the yamaha hs8's. the adam a7x sounded tighter from low end right through to the top end. the yamaha hs8 sounded a little more present in the tweeter in this test to my ears but it still didn't sound as cohesive as the adam a7x when it came to how the sounds meshed together from low end through to top end. I guess you get what you pay for. lol
The Adams sound like they would be easier for mixing any track where as the Yamaha's sound like a good reference for tracks with the goal of a smoother bass
I had the Yamahas and switched to A7X + Sub and then switched to Neumann KH310. Since the A7X I had also a pair of Mixcubes and a Behritone C5A for mono listening. For me the Yamahas for mixing was terrible. Allways had to go back to the mix and fix things. The HS8 and the A7X are in no competition. A7X is a way better speaker but you need a subwoofer for a good low end. The Mixcubes are…I don‘t know what I really think of them. Good to check the mids but they have a hole at around 1.5 khz. If you buy a stereo pair of cube speakers, buy the new Auratones.
When you introduced the reference track first everything sounds fine on my HS80M speakers but when you switch from the ADAMS to the HS8's I heard and unusual phase shift to the right. Are the settings on each HS8 the same or one of the speakers has a volume output problem. I know the HS8's have a little more bottom than the ADAMS but the phase correlation should be the same.
I wish there was a way to combine the top end from the Adams, the Midrange from the HS8's and the tightness from the Avantones. Already read another comment on the HS8's being strange L to R, and I agree.
not going to lie... the comparison is not even fair. The HS8 have a 8inch woofer vs the 7inch on the A7X. It doesn't seem like much until you compare the difference in sound of a 10inch sub vs 12inch. What really is hard to differentiate is the mids and high-mids between the 3. They all sound clear and detailed so perhaps its a choice of preference!
Yeah the left is a little more signal there also I love the video thank you to me it seem like the hs8 has alot more low end mud also I have the hs7 but to me the Adam' sounds clearer I just wonder how it Translates with other speakers headphones ect. GREAT VIDEO !!!! I'm thinking about get those Adam's
Similar with the NS10s, the HS8 are less comfortable to work with, but they will give you better mixes. All that is wrong in the middle frequeny area will pop out right away ;)
I would use the a7x for checking mids and the hs8 for lows and compare in both highs to hear the difference in some frequencies …. I think if you own a subwoofer in the a7x it should compensate the lows and some Eq’s adjustment on monitors ……. I think having both are the perfect combo ……. Great video 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Seriously ,I didn't even put my handfree on. I just played on my s9+ phone speakers even so, I can hear clearly the difference between the setups. Good job man! 🤘
Just bought the A7X and HS8 and will be returning the A7X. I'm using it for hifi listening midfield (7 feet). The HS8 was a bit boomy so pulled it into the room and the bass tightened right up. I just don't like the AMT tweeter from Adam. It sure if more impressive for a 15 min listening session and offers a bit more sizzle on the top end. I just find it's distracting and irritating for long listening sessions. Would like to try Focal Solo monitors next.
Ah yeah man these moniters don't work very well mid field tbh unless your room is treated very well. I found the best sound out of my adams by sitting as close as possible to them
I have owned all three. Yamhas simply do not have the soundscape and clarity that the Adam A7X has. Yes the A7X is slighty hyped but it is way more detailed in the mid range. I sold my Yamahas and never looked back. I track on the ADAMS and mix on my trusty Genelecs 8340s.
That's why a lot of people snip a resistor on the Yamahas which disengage the "limiter" filter on the amp. It opens up the sound quite dramatically. The midrange is compressed slightly stock and that causes a smeared mid range like what you're describing
It works on the adams forsure. They dont go as low but they definitely give you a tight. true respresentation on your mix regardless of placement in the room. The Yamahas completely change there sound when you move them in the room but the have sub detail. Cheers!
Great job best vid of this type I have seen....the cubes are what I would expect....close on Ax7 and Yamaha...be nice to have both...would lean towards rock with Yamaha and Ax7 for acoustic...
Hi guys, I am looking at investing in a pair of passive Avantone mixcubes as I know someone selling them and will I will probably only end up keeping one and selling the other, however can anybody recommend a good amplifier to match the passive set without breaking the bank, any help is very much appreciated thanks
There is just one thing, your hs8 are uneven, meaning the left was hotter than right. sounds like you needed to turn up the right a twinge. but even with that, the hs8 more even over all, and more detail, wasn't expecting that.
The volume pots were the same with mogami wires so i guess that says a little bit about the yamahas! i didnt notice till i was editing in post. We use these with sonorworks which fixed the volume imbalance. Yeah hs8s are very detailed for the price , especially compared to the jbl lsr308s. I heard there is a mod called zen pro that switchs some converters that makes them sound ever more better.
@@ju1ceaudio yes they zen pro moded minds and definitely ill recommend anyone that once to get there Yamaha moded by them. yes did upgrade the sound to the a7x but in Yamaha style. was going upgrade to the a7x now don't need too if i do upgrade it got to be the Adam s2v or the ocean way juggernaut heads
@@jmizzbeatsj-jigga7888 all you gotta do is snip off a resistor and cut out the limiter in yamaha and they open up like $2000 monitors. the mod is free if you have a pair of plyers
yamaha sound close to the track reference the transients does not goes natural but it is the way it is, Adam sound very pleasant and more natural, you get a good mixing with both but if you want go with pleasure go with adams or if you want go in the way as close go with Yamaha, it is not about which one is the best is about which one do you like and you money. it is my opinion
That's because the Yamaha's are coloured to sound nice, not be flat. The Adam's are flat .. but don't sound "Amazing" when directly compared directly to something with hyped highs and lows, but you'll notice it when you start mixing on them both and only one translated to other speakers well.
Yamaha's freq response is actually very flat, you can check many technical reviews. The monitor is very well balanced, with upfront high mids. Knowing that charts and real life use may differ, but would not call Yamaha's HS 8 "smiley" - they have just extended low end, and upfront high end. They actually translate very well if placed in proper room with acoustic treatment and positioning. Some even call them "sterile". I would call some KRK's hyped, but definitely not HS8. There is not many better monitors in this price range/segment than 8inch HS8 from Yamaha.
HS8 SOUNDS MORE TRUE TO THE ORIGINAL. ESPECIALLY IN THE MIDS. GREAT VIDEO. A GREAT HACK TO MIXING AND MASTERING IS TO USE AN EQ THAT EMULATES THE CUBES AND NS10 SOUND BY CUTTING HIGH AND LOW SO YOU CAN NAIL THE MIDS... THEN BYPASS THAT EQ TO FINISH THE REST.
Yes the adams are more resolute and have faster transients. The bass is lacking though, that is there main flaw but I run a sub with them crossed at 80hz.
Ju1ce Audio during break in the tweeter needs to be softened by foam and I just cut a piece and Velcro it to the top of the speaker and when break in over I remove it
The Yamaha HS8 sounds boxy compared to the Adam which definetly has more prominent highs and even seems slightly harsh to be honest, the Yamahas sound muffled in a way. The Avantone Mix Cubes are worst without a doubt but it only has a woofer though so maybe hard to really compare to the other two. In my opinion the Adam A7X wins
Im use one in my studio for mono playback to hear if stereo reverbs or delays are canceling. Also to see what is clashing in the mix. I am still getting used to it. Thriller album was mixed mostly on a similar speaker.

I guess you get what you pay for. lol
Yeah man I love my adams! yamahas are still the best for the price though
The Adams sound like they would be easier for mixing any track where as the Yamaha's sound like a good reference for tracks with the goal of a smoother bass
well, bass has to translate well with harmonics so not haveing alot of bass isnt to much of a bad thing. the adams translate so much better
If you buy a stereo pair of cube speakers, buy the new Auratones.
nice bro. yeah i love my adams
That was a volume output problem on the yamahas. The volume pots were on the same setting but one is quieter than the other.
Try reversing the power cord for 180 degrees in the outlet on one speaker if it is posible and if you live in europe and using shuko power cords
The engineer and designer of the A7X has a new company. HEDD. HEDD type 07 mkII vs A7X?? Pretty hard to see anyone choosing the A7X. I didn't.
It is the flattest though, much better for its job.
I was considering getting the hedds. They cost a bit more and are a little different.
Thank you for doing this. 🙏
Welcome bro hope you enjoyed
I can here more of the low end on the Yamahas, all of the instruments have more clarity to my ears.
Yeah definitely more low end in the Yamaha's
Good work!
Oh what, the blessing from the Joe N tell himself! Love your videos bro! Been watching since way back!
Well done. Thanks!
🙌🏾
I wish there was a way to combine the top end from the Adams, the Midrange from the HS8's and the tightness from the Avantones. Already read another comment on the HS8's being strange L to R, and I agree.
There is a way, just gotta pay the price for some atcs😂
@@ju1ceaudio you read my mind!
not going to lie... the comparison is not even fair.
Yeah the difference is hard to tell unless you hear it in person, the ribbon tweeter is a way different sound.
It's really strange hearing a Yamaha HS recording from a listening position while listening on a Yamaha HS sitting in a listening position.
Me too!
Is should doubly highlight any flaws with them as any low spots will be twice as low in volume and any high spots with be twice as high in volume :D.
What I really wanna know tho, is did they sound like the same speakers? :D
Hi. I think your got a quite good roomacoustic!!
Question: are the speakers corrected (by your sonarworks) or without correction?
With Out correction
Yeah the left is a little more signal there also I love the video thank you to me it seem like the hs8 has alot more low end mud also I have the hs7 but to me the Adam' sounds clearer I just wonder how it Translates with other speakers headphones ect. GREAT VIDEO !!!! I'm thinking about get those Adam's
Yeah I agree. Thanks for watching!
damn your studio is nice.
Thanks bro this is my church studio.
@@ju1ceaudio Oh nice.
Similar with the NS10s, the HS8 are less comfortable to work with, but they will give you better mixes.
All that is wrong in the middle frequeny area will pop out right away ;)
Yes the translation on those is very good
Hello, are the HS8 tiring? I have the HS7 which are not tiring for me, and I hesitate to buy the HS8 to have a more neutral sound... thank you
the comparison should be a7x vs msp7 ...or t8v vs hs8
I would use the a7x for checking mids and the hs8 for lows and compare in both highs to hear the difference in some frequencies …. I think if you own a subwoofer in the a7x it should compensate the lows and some Eq’s adjustment on monitors ……. I think having both are the perfect combo ……. Great video 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yup I second that! I run a subwoofer with my adams at home with sonar works and it sounds really good and flat.
@@ju1ceaudio me too it makes a difference with the sonarworks .
Awesome comparison…wish there was a few guitar based tunes; however, dig the eq representations! 🤙
Thanks bro it means alot!
Seriously ,I didn't even put my handfree on. I just played on my s9+ phone speakers even so, I can hear clearly the difference between the setups. Good job man! 🤘
Thanks bro!
wow grt video, pls make a comparision video of adam t8v vs yamaha hs8
I would if i had the t8v!
Are those isoacoustics iso-200s holding up the hs8s and if so do they work well? Would I be good in buying these?
Yeah iso acoustic are a great investment and the do help getting the speakers ear level which is important
Sweet bass player on that track :-)
The adams have given me translation across many platforms, but hyped do you mean the high end or just people talking about them?
@@levijessegonzalez3629 hey bro I uploaded the Yamaha hs8 vs jbl lsr310 check it out!
How about mixing kick and bassline. Does it work on Adam A7x or do you have to use Yamaha Hs8?
It works on the adams forsure. They dont go as low but they definitely give you a tight. true respresentation on your mix regardless of placement in the room. The Yamahas completely change there sound when you move them in the room but the have sub detail. Cheers!
Great job best vid of this type I have seen....the cubes are what I would expect....close on Ax7 and Yamaha...be nice to have both...would lean towards rock with Yamaha and Ax7 for acoustic...
Yeah bro both are really good! Cheers
the left Yamahas are louder /signal panned left more
yeah slightly
Good job
Hi, Song 3:30 please ?
To me hs8 is closer to refrence track the adames has nicer clarity but missing abit of low end . For $400 is good enough!
yeah the yamahs are still very good
According to u which is best??
Adams are the best and what I use at my home studio
Thxx man
thank you so much, ju1ce!
Welcome Bro!
Thank you awesome
No problem!
I’m keeping my yams and adding Ax7 replacing hs5
good man
Yamaha is great in the mids but Adams’s have more balance in the frequency spectrum.
yez sir!
so with the adams they want you to use their center and sub with the moniters but yamaha tried to give us an all in one ?
We'll it is a 7inch woofer vs 8 inch. I'm sure the a8x would beat the Yamahas out easy. I current use the a7x with jbl lsr310s sub and I love it.
Hi guys, I am looking at investing in a pair of passive Avantone mixcubes as I know someone selling them and will I will probably only end up keeping one and selling the other, however can anybody recommend a good amplifier to match the passive set without breaking the bank, any help is very much appreciated thanks
anything will work bro tbh, 200$ range will be more than enough
when you switch to yamaha. the left side volume is more then the right one. listen is once agian
yeah sorry the volume pots on the yamahas were matched but yet the volume was different.
God damn dude, why are the HS8's so good.
Hs8s are really good I ain't gonna lie
thank you for this video
Welcome!
Please what is the name of the reference monitors
that is the orginal track, its not played through a speaker
what mic do you record, sounds excellent
Zoom h5 bro thanks!
which one is easier to mix ? or have better translation to other speakers ? the a7x or hs8 ? thanks
The adams translate way better . I use them at 3 different studios and everyone I know that has them tells me how well they translate.
I heard there is a mod called zen pro that switchs some converters that makes them sound ever more better.
www.zenproaudio.com/yamaha-hs8-zenpro-mod-pair
@@ju1ceaudio yes they zen pro moded minds and definitely ill recommend anyone that once to get there Yamaha moded by them. yes did upgrade the sound to the a7x but in Yamaha style. was going upgrade to the a7x now don't need too if i do upgrade it got to be the Adam s2v or the ocean way juggernaut heads
@@jmizzbeatsj-jigga7888 all you gotta do is snip off a resistor and cut out the limiter in yamaha and they open up like $2000 monitors. the mod is free if you have a pair of plyers
@@levijessegonzalez3629 i already got them done you right too. That's why I didn't upgrade to the a7x. Thanks too highly appreciated check me out too.
그래프까지 나와서 너무 좋네요. 근데 제가 이상한건지 야마하가 좌측으로 쏠린 소리가 나는데...맞는걸까요?
Yes it is, the pots were the same but I guess the left is lacking a bit in volume.
yamaha sound close to the track reference the transients does not goes natural but it is the way it is, Adam sound very pleasant and more natural, you get a good mixing with both but if you want go with pleasure go with adams or if you want go in the way as close go with Yamaha, it is not about which one is the best is about which one do you like and you money. it is my opinion
Yup i enjoy not only mixing on my adams but also casual listening.
Do you know some speakers like adam a7x in same price range with same quality?
There are some dyn audios for the same price i heard were good.
HS*'s are really good for the money.
They are, but i would recommend the Kali audio in-8 over it forsure! I got a new video on the way about those.
For me i liked the Yamaha very clean and clear sound the adams seems to me moody and dark
yeah the adams have a lil more lower mids but they are bright in person
Should I upgrade my Yamaha to the Adam?
Hs8 to a7x you will definitely notice less bass. But the quaility is far superior. I would do it.
Nice yeah thats a good way people do it. But then the crossover is still in the way of the midrange if its not a point source driver.
The Yamahas sound boxy and have poor imaging. The soundstage is MUCH more open on the Adams/more depth.
Yes the adams are more resolute and have faster transients. The bass is lacking though, that is there main flaw but I run a sub with them crossed at 80hz.
I own a pair of Adam a7x I really love the sound but I hate the size, I feel like the are too small.
The bass can be underwhelming I admit. With a sub they really shine.
sick audio bro
thanks!
ax7 and hs8 are both very close ...matter of taste but i know adams and i use some foam above the tweeter to lower it by .03
What do you mean by the foam above the tweeter?
Ju1ce Audio during break in the tweeter needs to be softened by foam and I just cut a piece and Velcro it to the top of the speaker and when break in over I remove it
@@MediaMusik777 oh yeah I noticed they were mad bright at first as well.
I second that
You see how subjective this is - half people here have it other way around, including me : )
I wonder how far off from A7x are the T7V
Foreal I haven't heard the t7vs but I heard they are very good for the price. Just lack low mid quaility.
love this video! what about an A7X vs T7V comparison?
I really want to hear them i have heard nothing but good about them for the price! If I can my hands on them i definitely will. Thanks!
@@ju1ceaudio dope! much love
I can vouch for the T7Vs, they produce a great sound!
There's certainly a big difference in stereo field.
yeah adams have a large soundscape
Do you find the mix cubes useful? And if so, what for? I recently bought one.
Im use one in my studio for mono playback to hear if stereo reverbs or delays are canceling. Also to see what is clashing in the mix. I am still getting used to it. Thriller album was mixed mostly on a similar speaker.
Adam a7x -------win!
Yup amazing moniters!
