Coming from somebody who owns a HS8S to go run with my HS8’s, I approve and 100% agree with what you said about the Yamaha sub. It definitely doesn’t drop down to 22hz. About 30 at the most.
Thank you for sharing this details information for these 2 best Monitor Subwoofer. From my opinion as a YAMAHA HS8S owner, and I use it for my Home Theater setup with no quite big space, I find the bass and low frequency quality is good and smooth. But for more immersive booming effect, I can't and demand much since the driver size is only 8 inch. But for music listening, is more than enough. And I Plan to add one YAMAHA HS8S more for my Home Theater setup. From your reviewing, I really agree and understand, how JBL can outperformed YAMAHA, since it comes with bigger driver size which is 10 inch. If I haven't use YAMAHA HS8S, maybe I will switch to LSR310S, one is enough for my HT setup. But since I lack of space, This YAMAHA is most reasonable choice for saving space and quality. From many others review, I see this YAMAHA HS8S most suit for YAMAHA monitor speaker, if you have their HS speaker series. In this term, I don't say about the low bass or immersive power, but from many reviewers, YAMAHA engineers indeed design this subwoofer to match and blend with their HS monitor speaker series. And I believe, their engineers have some reason why choose a compact driver like 8 inch, instead of bigger like 10 or 12 inch. Lastly, from my own opinion, these two subwoofers are great, just depend on what are your preference and usage for. They both have their own advantages and characteristics. Despite of the different in driver size. Your reviewing and information are very useful, Thanks again.
I agree! My thoughts are that yamaha HS line focuses a lot on acuraccy in an afordable package. Using a bigger driver would mean having to sacrifice precision or afordability. JBL is not as intentional as Yamaha with acuraccy so they can get away with it, not worse, its just a different aproach or philosophy. You can just go with what you think you need, probably yamaha is better for mixing/mastering and JBL for producing (its more immersing).
Lol, I read all the comments haha! Thank you for this! Im wondering though, since this is a two year old post, is there a new better option to get in JBL or different brand?
Got my eye on used JBL.What do you think of pairing with the Adam Ax7’s Is the rule of thought sticking with like brand or not? I’ve heard it doesn’t matter.
Everything depends on the space you have. The yamaha seems quite new compared to the JBL and still has to break in. In Europe there are many bad reviews about the JBL, such as cheaply made plastic and noise. In a small room, a woofer is useless, but since I have a large space, I go for the Yamaha. The quality is of a higher level and is optimized for hs8 speakers, which are ideal for dance music.
Hi, do you really think it's that useless? I live in an apartment building so I have the HS5's, the front wall is almost entirely treated with 8" thick rockwool panels, can't treat the rear wall because of space constraints. I mainly produce, might occasionally mix and master too, but my question is, would getting the hs8s be such a bad idea if all I want is just the bass extension at lower volumes? I mean I will obviously not be blasting the woofer, that would piss off the neighbors too much, but what if I just leave it on at a lower level to provide some sort of lower layer of sound?
First, I hope your recovery from Covid is going great my brother! Second, thank you so much for making this vid. I’m going to use the JBL’s with my JBL lsr305’s🤝🔥💯
I consider buying the HS8S to complete my pair of Yamaha HS5. What is insufficient about the HS8S according to your personal experience? I have a small room and need massive bass, for I'm making bass heavy progressive psytrance.
@@alchemyst9393 I share the same conclusions as the uploader. Plays solid only down to 35Hz. also port noise comes in pretty early, so in songs where there's mainly base with minimal other elemets, it's quite apparent. The smaller the room, the smaller the bass. You can always turn down a sub, but you can't improve its extension. Get subs that go down to under 30Hz at -3dB, not "22Hz at -10dB" :D
@@Gamez4eveR I use my audio system subtly anyways due to neighbours... If I may ask: when does port noise occur? Only when pushing it to its limits or already at low volumes?

I own YAMAHA HS8S, and use it for my Home Theater Setup. And after all, I really satisfy with the power, performance, appearance and with decent price. And I plan to add one YAMAHA HS8S more to add greater immersive low frequency and bass effects for my Home Theater. And I think it doesn't fair to compare this two subwoofer, because they are different in driver size. JBL can easy to outperform YAMAHA, and it's very decent, 10 inch vs 8 inch. But, thanks anyway bro for sharing this valuable review and knowleadge.

Rooms usually have a lot of lowend build up so when you tame it with sonarworks the sub plays flatter and hits way harder. the difference is massive.
I never use xlf because it boosts some low end. i want it flat so i use 80hz. if your watching a movie or just casually listening xlf would sound better
@@ju1ceaudio Thank’s bro 🙏🏻
My weapon is a melody. My man!
How did you tune your room or speakers?
With and tuning mic, I used a program rew to get measuments and then sonar works for the correction
Thanks
Welcome
No way possible are you getting 22 Hz from that Yamaha with any 8" woofer - absolutely impossible.
I got the JBL S550P - 10" sealed, 300 watts rms, 500 watts peak. Just got it for $189.00 on sale through JBL. It's a 50 lb beast. Regularly priced at $599.00
I also have a JBL 10 inch sub, the stage A100P. I barely can make it move, without my room rattling with bass
@@shoerice5083 I have the JBL S550P / rattles the house bro!
@@Audiomainia2310 jbl has lots of different 10 inch subs
All are pretty good
@@shoerice5083 I really like the quickness of a sealed sub. Much tighter in my opinion and hits deeper.
What cables did you use to connect the subwoofer to your monitors? XLR? TRS?
xlr
@@ju1ceaudio thanks for replying! Is it because XLR is a higher quality connection? My jbl lsr310s is arriving Friday afternoon
Great video
good stuff man
thanks bro, hope it helped
can you use a jbl sub with Yamaha monitors?
yes you can
Kali WS-6.2 would blow them both away. 😎
straight up bro
Thanks . You are genius
Hi JBL to connect Yamaha AV
Great review, Thanks
Very welcome
Very informative video . Thanks
Just purchased the JBL. It has the lows just as he states. The Yamaha sounds like shit IMHO. Why is it a subwoofer and doesn't get those sub levels? Great video.
thanks bro hope you like it!
Hey man just dropping to say thanks for the video, I removed the hs8s grill before installing thanks to you.
Welcome bro!
🏆needed this
Can you connect the hs8’s monitors to a krk sub?
yes you can
@@ju1ceaudio awesome, thanks for the response.
I used the jbl at a studio it would shake the place
yeah it hits hard
Like Brazil.
Hai JBL subwoofer it is used pre-out j AV
Yamaha the best ! Dude what it s Adam ?
the adams are a7x
The JBL is a “ colorful” speaker in comparison to the neutrality of the YAMAHA sub I think 🤔
No matter how flat it is on measurements when you put it in your room it's never neutral. But I do hear it pairs very well with hs5s I just don't think it extends low enough to justify owning the sub.
JBL ❤️😍🥰😘🔥
COLD VIDEO G
💪🏼
@Ju1ce Audio bruh, I almost got up clapped like a good movie ending or when Ye divorced that trashadian (cause you know how they suck the talent out of men in their lives’ soul…but that’s not what this is about). Lol
I’ve looking at reviews for a while now and like the other dude said, you really broke it down to where there was a lot of value and really helped. I have the JBLs and love ‘em. I also have the L308 monitors but switching to the HS8…but keeping JBL sub, which I did also get for 200 about 8 mos ago lollll
Aye appreciate man!
Knock test
yamaha is wayyyy better..the grill neeeds to come off..nice vid.though
"down to 23hz which is 100% cap" LOOL
