    Always interesting to see the importance of the graphics. Can't wait to see the next video hearing the difference. 👍🏻

    I tried them all in this range and went with the Kalis. Not only using these for recording, but general playback with guitar plugins. I found they had a nicer sounding midrange. One wonders how useful these tests are on monitors that aren't broken in.

      "Break in" is a myth on powered monitors.

    The HS-8 are very articulate in the higher frequencies which lends itself to good monitoring when listening for source recording and high frequency quality when mixing... The IN-8's can do the same function with perhaps less listener fatigue... In either case, the engineer must know what his monitors do to the sound to get balanced sound and mixes...

    You should also look at the phase trace on your Smaart, you will notice that you should place your measuring mic exactly at the same distance from both speakers, cuz now you're just looking at comb filtering...

      Yes, good point. I did this step but didn’t show it on camera. I also tested with one side off. Thanks for the extra input.

    Really debating between the hs8 or the kali such a difficult choice right now.

      Hs8 are the more reliable monitor. The in8 is the more sonically accurate

    Was the DSP engaged when you ran these tests?

      The switches on the back were engaged appropriately for the space they were in. So yes.

      The HS8 is a great monitor. I’m using the kalis now all the time. I notice a significant difference in the balance of the top end.

      @@theblindleadstheblindI agree all my mixes in hs7 always sounds dull In Real world cause Yamaha have extremely fake mids and highs which sounds extremely well mixed in the monitors but not outside for public

      Yeah well….Yammy HS series just aren’t great. I’ve owned the HS8’s myself….still do.
      They’re the worst speakers I’ve ever owned. Sry to break the news to anyone who thinks otherwise.
      Your comments in the beginning were very true about their origin.
      These things were made to be sold on a mass scale…period.
      They suck.
      As for the Kalis, I’ve yet to hear them in person, but if they are even close to sounding as thin, brittle, harsh, smeary, with the added bonus of no low end, like the Hs series….it’s a pass for myself.
      I’m excited to hear them for myself as I doubt they’d be as poor a speaker as the HS.
      PS: First pair of monitors ever were a set of now discontinued “Equator D5s”.
      They blew the Yamahas out of the water in terms of clarity for near-field mixing.
      People, just please do research and lots of it and don’t buy into marketing hype.

      @@timetravelpt what was witnessed was speaker break in. That was literally the first time I played anything through them. So the second time was a more accurate representation of the frequency response.

    You bought worse monitors 😂 The 200hz is cabinet resonance, the 10k dip is baffle diffraction

    Anyone serious enough about mixing & mastering should go with the Yamahas. Most of other monitors're just hype. Them Yamahas're the most serious contendor to top studio monitors like Focals, ATCs etc

      The evidence is in the numbers.

    • @memeswillneverdie
      @memeswillneverdie Рік тому +16

      and your evidence for this is what?, Hype?, other people?
      they are good speakers for sure but they aren't the be all and end all, the IN 8's are quite literally more accurate due to the more every distribution of frequencies between the three drivers instead of the two drivers of the HS8, trasient response is much better on the Kali IN8's (especially the V2's) due to the lighter material the diaphram.
      as far as frequency response, the Kali's have a wider frequency response.
      the tweeter and mid woofer the kali's are coicident meaning imaging is far superior on the Kali's
      pick a metric and the Kali's beat them you just believe that because you were taught to belive that by the people you watch who attest to their greatness. they are great but they aren't the best that exist.
      your doing the same thing as the people who still pay stupid money for pro tools because it's the "industry standard" the only industry standard is making good music, everything else is seconadary.

    • @kitni
      @kitni Рік тому +3

      an 8 inch two ways monitor is a compromise because you make a large diaphragm go way up to 2khz. That problem get fixed with a 3 ways
      monitor. While frequency balance is one thing, theres nothing to do with the accuracy, dynamics which is also very important. once i tried listening to these 3 ways theres no way im going back with those 2s
