Great demo. This technique works really well. I first saw it described in the Burda Style pattern magazines and have used it successfully not only on the patterns in that magazine, but also other multisided patterns.

That is great to know about the Burda reference. I learned this in a class at an ASG conference. I really love the ease of it. 💚

oh excellent! Love this tip. I sometimes fall inbetween the measurements for two different sizes that happen to be where the pattern company changes between small and larger sizes (bust falls in the smaller size pattern group and hips in the larger size group) making it hard to grade the pattern because I'm missing the markings for one or the other no matter which I buy. This will help me customize those patterns in my stash where that is the case.

Can you upgrade 2 sizes this way? Take the dot at smallest size and put it on large size to go up 2 sizes? Hope this makes sense....@@creativecostumeacademy

@@dianemontavon5670 YES! You could keep going more on the larger grades. I just wanted to show you could do both up and down. 💚

OMG 😍I think I watched about 10 videos trying to find out how to grade down because my daughter tasked me with making a unisex jacket for her and her new husband (who is a large) and she’s like an XS 😳. The pattern came in one size!…large so I was good to go for him but, for my daughter…omg 😮…well needless to say I’m bald now 😂jk
I ended up making several copies of the large (hand drawn) and tried several versions based off of the techniques I saw. The last one I went with was taking the copied pattern, quartering it. That way I can move pieces up, and in according to her measurements (or so I thought). I actually still ended up cutting more off…ugh, yikes 😬
Anyway, I did what she asked 😂was it correct? Probably not. 😂
😤😏🫤yeah, your video would have saved me A lotta heartache.
I will definitely keep this for next time, for sure. 👍

Thank you so much for this video. I was just about to "slash and re-draft" but this is so much easier and will work great for a simple pattern like an apron. You just saved me hours of work. Subscribed and signed up for the newsletter.

Great tutorial ... but I'm sorry, that background music is not only distracting, but it's annoying. I would prefer to just hear your beautiful voice.
