Hi. I made rounds in the COVID ward, however after, i just realized that I was not able to fully turn/lock the cartridges of 3M 6800. Is there a chance of air leaking inside?

My new 6800 mask leaks just above ears (tested negative pressure and "blurp" sound appears above ears.) so I have not used it. Is it possible to add skin grease or lotion to seal the leak spot ? Is it normal should I buy large L size 6900 ?

Could someone please tell me if a face mask with filters that comply to BS EN 137:2006 will give suitable protection from covid-19 when going on the London Underground? Many thanks in advance.

2:33 could anyone please clarify this 'positive pressure fit check' @2:33. 1) he has the 3M 6800 full face mask ON and strapped tight. 2) he then gently covers the exhalation valve at the bottom front of the mask with the palm of the hand. ... then what ? he takes a breath, then removes the palm of his hand from the exhaust valve and then gently exhales and if he senses air escaping anywhere around the seal (rim of the mask where it touches the face) then the face mask needs re-adjusting ? ...... is that all ? am I missing something or writing the steps wrongly ?

When you say 'no leaks detected between the face and face piece' are you talking about the outer area of the mask? Is some leak around the part that covers mouth and nose expected?

2:33 yeah there are all sorts of questions surrounding that part of the 'positive pressure fit check' which are a bit vague. I'm guessing if in doubt tighten the mask if you think air is leaking.

Is this respirator 3M 6000 serie indicated for Health Professionals to use in coronavirus aerosol protection? In positive case, what are the filters indicated to associate with it?

I recently purchased this mask for hospital use. I'm using P100 particulate filters with it. It's a bit better than N95, but I presume more than enough coverage for aerosol generating procedures.

Thanks for commenting, RLD_ARTS. And how has your experience been with it? Is it comfortable for long periods of use? Is it too hot in the face? Is communication good or is the voice too distorted and incomprehensible by co-workers / patients?

@@ivanmarcelovirtuoso I'm not a health professional, but I use these (the 6000 series specifically) extensively as I work in a combustion power plant. There are two intake chambers on this mask. After the filters, the air is drawn into the eye/cheek area, and then into the nose/mouth area, so air circulates across your whole face. I frequently have to work in confined spaces where the air temperature is at least 150F and this mask is surprisingly comfortable and cool in those situations.
As for speaking, the round piece between the filters (the part with the large 3M logo) is simply a cover over the outlet valve meant to direct your exhaled air downward. This piece can easily be removed and replaced while wearing the mask. There are two locking tabs, top and bottom, on this cover. Lift the bottom tab to remove it.

Depends on your respirable exposure, that is something that an industrial hygienist can determine. Just as long as the filters being used are for particulates.

There is a part that 3M sells called a spectacle kit. You can get your prescription in this frame and it fits inside the respirator.
