Wow, Barry has this really great presence, where you can tell he’s full of great information while sharing it in a really approachable way. He also really seems like he cares about who he’s talking to. Which is rare for a record collector. We love Barry!
Indeed a great guy. And it's a lovely thing to see another record collector who really knows his stuff and who likes to diggs deep in the history and the crates.
What a fountain of knowledge Barry is. Fascinating to listen to and a really nice fella. Beats me how he never got a commentating or presentation job. A voice tailor made for radio and podcasts.
Great to see Barry, one honest guy! Know him through my friend Tony, met Barry a few times. His knowledge is unbelievable and brilliant! Carry on Barry, excellent collection!
I sent this broadcast to Mick Box of Uriah Heep this evening - my dear friend Russell Gilbrook is their drummer - and within 25 minutes Mick replied with: "Seen it. Very cool".
We'd love to have Mick on the channel, Poppa Dave has been a big fan since they were Spice in the late 60s. Thanks for your support and sending these videos to him, it means a lot!
What an interesting bloke. Barry is the very definition of the fabled "Great British Eccentric" and I'm very glad there are chaps like this around. Love hearing his encyclopedic knowledge and anecdotes, and I hope some day he decides to capture some of this in a memoir or something. Long may he continue.
I have Known Barry for over 50 years seeing 100s of gig.s with him at the Marquee Club and the Roundhouse in London , If you see him at any record Fair just buy him a cup of Coffee and he will tell you more stories....A great guy okay
COULD LISTEN TO OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN, GREAT INFORMATION AND VERY INTERESTING STORIES. BARRY KNOWS SO MANY PEOPLE, VERY NICE MAN WITH A LOT OF KIND WORDS.
Thanks Barry and Jake. Great video. After Barry mentioned Black hill enterprise who organised the Hyde park music festivals in the sixties and seventies I popped to my neighbour's house ' Andrew King ' and showed him your video.. he was very impressed with Barry's musical knowledge and how Sharp Barry's memory is.. he also said. ' He has obviously never smoked pot with a memory as good as that '. 😂😂😂 ... That's Andrew's sense of humour... Thanks for sharing your memories.. Looking forward to part 2..✌️🙏
I have a stone mint reportedly once played CBS UK 1st issue which I paid a fortune for. I love the riffs. A riff very similar to Mandrake Root by Deep Purple runs through a couple of tracks.
Buy a record every time Barry says ‘OK’ and you’ll be well on your way to a decent sized record collection of your own! Just teasing! What a fascinating, genuine and insightful man! Brilliant video! Barry really is gem!!!
What a treat to see more of his amazing collection. He has so many stories and memories he would have decades of youtube content if he ever decided to start a channel.
What a nice bloke with an incredible knowledge of music .Albums he should feature next time are Cressida's first two albums , May Blitz whose self titled debut is one of my all time favourite Vertigo swirl label album , Beggars Opera first two albums ( two more of my favourite swirlies ) , Ben's self titled debut which l believe is up there with Dr . Z's album as the rarest on the label and all the L.P.'s on Vertigo by Nucleus my all time favourite Jazz/ Rock band . l'd love to talk with Barry as we are much the same age and were around in the early 70's when Prog was at it's peak . Good video Jake which l enjoyed immensely and get back to Barry as quickly as possible .
Another wonderful interview with Barry who I have known for around 55 years as we went to the same school. He really does deserve his own talk show or DJ slot with his relaxed and charming interview style. Already looking forward to the next one chaps.
I met Barry the other day on the bus, he was so friendly and we chatted about music for some time, it was a shame our conversation was cut short because he was so knowledgable i felt enlightened in a way
I remember Barry, I used to see him around London when I used to go record shopping in the 80s and 90s. He is a guy you never can forget! Such a lovely man then and now. What I wouldn't do to have a dig in his collection!!
Danny Baker worked in an independent retailer One Stop Records who were taken over by Harlequins records. His opinion of them was not favourable as they were more interested in mainstream popular music. But Barry seems to have a fondness for them which is good to hear. If i had the pleasure of meeting Barry there are so many questions i would ask. His knowledge and love of music is inspirational. Many thanks for posting Jake.
I'm not really into this genre of music but I do collect vinyl, mainly dance music. Barry's videos are the only long videos I have watched the whole way through. Very interesting chap, hope he does some more.
What a fantastic Guy Barry is. His knowledge is phenomenal. I pride myself in knowing a lot about music but he is just another level with some amazing stories, esp love the Graham Bond ones. I love the Vertigo albums and have a few. Could have more and saw them cheap back in the 70's 80's and of course now they are expensive collector items. I did however buy Black Sabbath second hand for 50p in 1972. My best bargain purchase for sure.
Thanks Barry for shari g with us your knowledge. For the quote on Uriah Heep, I first read about it ages ago in a rock encyclopaedia but I never knew it was Melinda Mills (sic). I also love the way you treat your collection. Collecting is a passion which brings joy. That is what I believe in and the money matter, not for me either. One thing, I wish you would have talk about Patto, a wonderful band indeed.
All those original Vertigo swirls are incredible, but this man's knowledge and stories are every bit as incredible. He lived it. He was buying these records when the public was passing over them.
What a great guy! As a Vertigo Swirl collector this video was a treat with all the back stories from Barry. I really hope there will be a part 2 🙏🏼 Love it!
I love Barry he is a force of nature when it comes to his knowledge of music.hes also the most beautiful, genuine and funny man I know. I l9ve him to bits always have and forever will.go on bazza Keep up the great work Looking forward to seeing more videos of you Your fiona xxxx
Him again!! Nicely done, my break for lunch was well spent watching this. Amazing stories, especially meeting Graham Bond - what a character. Fully agree with 666 being a total masterpiece, incredible record. I would happily watch Vertigo part 2 - maybe some other label reviews as well (Harvest, Dawn?)
I genuinely think this is one of the best UA-cam videos I have come across, late to the party here, I only found your channel today but I love the way Barry speaks without realising we are all loving everything he is saying about music, his knowledge is incredible and his collection of records? well I have never seen anything like it! -Cheers Vinyl Hunters and cheers Barry too.
Wow. This was fantastic. Learnt some stuff like the first vertigo album was colosseum. Did not know that. Loved his stories about Manfred and Bond. Glad to know we have similar interests. Gentle Giant all the way!!😊❤
Barry, you are beyond interesting. We share the same taste in music. I have almost every one of the albums you shared except many of mine are US pressings since I'm across the pond from you (even the Jimmy Campbell). I would love to have a conversation with you and David Wells (Tenth Planet/Grapefruit) one day. We are aging out. Who in the future is going to understand what happened musically in the sixties and seventies? You did kinda have to be there.... Best, John
The loveliest most knowledgeable prog man there is. I owe all my love of prog to him and always cherish the great times hanging out with him in London.
Really enjoyed that, Barry’s knowledge is something else. Be great if he does a part two, would love to know what he thinks of Patto as that’s one of my favourite 👍👍
please do more of these! i can listen to this man all day. 100% agree on the colosseum. i have the uk and the us versions. us is " the grass is greener". cheers
Thoroughly enjoying this episode ! Barry puts me at ease with my vinyl collecting. I only have about 5,000 records, so this gives me full reign to keep going ! Haha ( I would and will, anyway ) Cheers from Nevada 🙏
Barry, please make your own channel, the world needs to hear your personal reflections and knowledge of albums. One of the best interviews I've watched, fascinating.
Thanks Jake! That was a great video. Barry has a wealth of knowledge - so fascinating to listen to and I loved his Vertigo Swirl LP picks. I am also with him on that Aphrodite's Child - 666 LP. It's an incredible album and my favourite swirl album as well. It takes the listener on an amazing journey. The original UK swirl release is very rare and sought after and hence goes for a lot of money. Try to get hold of an OG French copy - you won't regret it.
Got to do this again....Barry your a amazing guy with great knowledge and the history and stories to go with each album love it...I streamed the music as I always do to find new music from great recommendations and now on look out for this great albums for my collection...Thanks to Jake too for brining this great guy to us Thanks Barry it's appreciated and for sharing your knowledge too
Barry reminds us how much Uriah Heep were hated by a lot of people in the 70s. I don't think I ever saw a positive review of them in the music papers. Similar to Grand Funk in the states - critics loved attacking them.
The critics were so pompous and seemed to choose arbitrarily who was to live and who was to die. Rolling Stone was one of the worst. Neil Young could fart, and Rolling Stone would praise it for having "integrity."
Really enjoyed this video, thank you. As an owner of some vertigo albums from new ( that's giving my age away), I can appreciate the stories behind these albums. Looking forward to the next one!
Never heard of some of these so checked out a few and mostly not my cup of tea but i heard the song “three friends” by gentle giant which is amazing and I can’t stop listening to it. Thank you for highlighting this stuff.
Maybe should get him to do a special on the Famous Charisma Label, and also Harvest, some great prog on these labels with lots of artist that became huge and some that slipped under the net, which I'm sure Barry could elaborate on.
Big thanks for the showings and the amazing stories....Graham is my hero...saw the Earth Band live at a pub somewhere in London in the 90s and paid my respect to MMann him self by the bar....WoW....
And amazing interview Jake and Barry ! There is so much to learn about this label. With my humor, there should have been a price total top right corner with a cash register sound every time the next album was shown! (Have you say, please Barry, remove those albums from those PVC sleeves. If you don't know why, look it up. I hope the vinyls are all ok - 😞. I am shuddering thinking about it).
Yeah, the one on that first Black Sabbath album, the curled PVC surface shows that it is oxidising. I've had many of my early childhood LPs ruined this way. LPs looking foggy. That shit goes through paper jackets and paper inner sleeves. With Vertigo, you are usually lucky to have polylined inner sleeves which I found out stops it to get through, but paper inners, though, no luck.
@@rabarebra Thanks for backing me up on this awful situation. I have had it happen even with poly sleeves in afraid, so just ditch them & take no chances!!
Very entertaining & knowledgeable. Especially the Graham Bond stuff. Surprised several of them don't appear to have the matching swirl inner sleeve. And he treats these fairly rough at times; re-sleeving the Valentyne Suite, lightly tossing them on the stack when done, etc. Yikes!
This man needs a podcast, what a legend
Imagine how good "The Barry Winton" radio show would be, the man's a walking talking musical encyclopaedia.
Yeah that would be awesome
And I love his voice.
Hey, SiriusXM, take note!
Indeed Planet Rock should sign him.❤
Barry Winton okay 👌
"The Barry Winton Okay Show"
What a fountain of knowledge Barry is.
Barry needs to get his own channel. The world needs access to his knowledge.
I second this, and I'm sure many others would agree.
I sent this broadcast to Mick Box of Uriah Heep this evening - my dear friend Russell Gilbrook is their drummer - and within 25 minutes Mick replied with: "Seen it. Very cool".

Fantastic interview Barry! Really loved it (John Simms of Clear Blue Sky)
I have a stone mint reportedly once played CBS UK 1st issue which I paid a fortune for. I love the riffs. A riff very similar to Mandrake Root by Deep Purple runs through a couple of tracks.
Barry is a great raconteur. I’ve just checked out that long Colosseum track. More please
Listened to Manfred Mann Chapter Three after watching this video. Love it. Now in search for a proper vinyl copy. More Barry? yes please.
I'm certain Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth would love being around this guy as Mikael himself owns many of the same rare Vertigo swirl LPs.

Legend. Thank you.
I could listen to Barry all day long
Love this! Would listen to him and grandpa talk all day!!!
Please note Jake & Barry have not done a load of jump-cut editing folks, Barry really talks and moves like that! J/K great video.
Based on Barry`s knowledge and love for music and what I see in the background, there`s enough material for a few more shows. Please.
Him again!! Nicely done, my break for lunch was well spent watching this. Amazing stories, especially meeting Graham Bond - what a character.

This man is gold! I have Half Baked, an insanely underrated album.
The man is a musical encyclopaedia! Some fantastic stories and background information. Needs his own channel.
a truly special episode with Barry opening a door to the past and letting us have a sneak preview of those heady days - wonderful - more please

Jake & Barry thank you ! Barry you are a national treasure ! A absolute wealth of knowledge and memories . Thank you so much !
I click as a Gentle Giant fan to see if they are mentioned, he's got the t-shirt on. Excellent.
Barry's a legend.....still need some more videos though 😁😁
Great Video ! What a lovely guy ,his passion for music is so wonderful
Barry is so fascinating to listen to and has fabulous taste in music! He’s also such a gentleman. A very foreign concept in Los Angeles, where I am😢
Love this guy........could listen to him chat about music all day !!!! WHAT A GREAT GUY 🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶
That's way better than the first interview. Why? Because we get to see some of the precious things! More Barry please.

maybe you could do a stream with Barry doing a Q & A. People could ask him questions, cos he's a great fount of knowledge.
This guy is like a portal into the mystical world of 1970s prog rock. Please, please, please invite him back to make more videos.
Part 2, 3, 4, just let them come.
Barry, please make your own channel, the world needs to hear your personal reflections and knowledge of albums. One of the best interviews I've watched, fascinating.
Met him on the train today! What a man
You guys shall make these ones a series!
Amazing video
Barry I would watch you talk about records for hours, please make your own channel if you can find the time. 👍
Loved the video and watched it through with a big smile on my face. Old enough to know what he was going to say at lot of times before he said it!

Can't wait to watch this later with a glass 🍷...
Amazing, thanks for this! I would watch a program with Barry every week. Inspiring wisdom and passion!
Fascinating chap. Could listen to his stories & anecdotes for hours.
What a guy this Barry, incredible!
Thanks for your insight Barry really enjoy your company, must get him on lots Jake 🙌
Well edited Jake. Mott’s Ian Hunter in Saturday Gigs writes ‘float up to the Roundhouse on a Sunday Afternoon’ could have been written about Barry😊

Old LPs and especially their jackets are much much much more durable than the new fragile thin "green-eco environment-fuck-for-forest" silly jackets.
where did Barry Winton work ? Seems to be pretty deep in the industry. Or did he write reviews in different papers ?
Where can we get your books Barry?
