      I had enough, is another good one, as every Paul ones. Gene song were not that good but still okay to me. It still sucks about the disrespect Stanley had for Mark after these achievements and his tragic death aas he was a good guy, never gonna hurt others as I heard.

    People don't realize it now but 70's bands actually faced rapid decline in the 80's and Kiss was one of them ... Only Rush, Journey, Rainbow, ZZ Top, and Van Halen survived the transition of the decades. The same thing happened in the 90's - 80's bands were suddenly obsolete in the face of grunge/ alternative rock.
    U had bands like Aerosmith, Blue Oyster Cult, Heart, Thin Lizzy, Queen, Cheap Trick, Yes, REO Speedwagon, Styx, Alice Cooper, Nazareth ... all declined in commercial appeal in the early 80's after being massively popular and facing poor record sales and concert attendance on tour.
    Meanwhile, upcoming 70's bands like Judas Priest, Scorpions, Motorhead, AC/DC, Sammy Hagar ... were breaking big in the 80's.
    Kiss clearly had potential and great songs but their 1982 album 'Creatures of the night' sold poorly because the makeup band was clearly not the original Kiss and people saw Kiss as a relic of the 70's - uncool and unhip... The non-makeup era Kiss gave the public a new introduction to Kiss and people gave the music a chance and realized it was great, which is why 'Lick it up' sold triple the numbers of 'Creatures of the night' at that time and people started going to see Kiss in concert again... and clearly Kiss won over fans on tour as they proved that they were still a great live band.
    That was the saving grace for Kiss going into 'Animalize' in 1984... Gene Simmons was not reliably involved... new lead guitarist... session musicians on a Kiss record (not the first time though!) ... "Heaven's on fire" became a huge hit on MTV and Paul Stanley was clearly the star of the non-makeup Kiss... They were exciting again. They had great songs on the album... and they didn't look or sound dated in the 80's glam rock era.
    Even The Who had to buck to the 80's trends to sell records... Heart took up a glam image and used outside songwriters for the 1985 album and finally had a major hit record again... Aerosmith took until 1987 to have a hit record and needed outside songwriters... Alice Cooper needed to do the same thing in 1989 to have a platinum selling album again... Robert Plant had to reinvent himself as a solo artist in the 80's and cut ties to Led Zeppelin's music... Kiss was not alone in doing what they had to do to be commercially successful.

    • @metalandrockzone
      @metalandrockzone  3 дні тому +2

      Yes the makeup removal was for sure something that generated a renewed interest in the band and it was maybe what kept them alive through this era. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment

      Pink Floyd also declined and in fact broke up and they did A Momentary Lapse of Reason and pissed off many Floyd fans. Genesis went all pop. Queen lost America.

    • @terrencereardon6374
      @terrencereardon6374 День тому

      Styx, Genesis, Rush and Pink Floyd all veered from the Prog elements for shorter songs, different lyrical themes. Only reason Styx imploded was because Tommy Shaw was on huge amounts of drugs and alcohol and hangers on told him to leave the band and he didn’t need them. Dennis DeYoung refused to replace him until Tommy sold his rights to the band for $5,000 in 1989 to join Damn Yankees.
      Pink Floyd went arena rock on The Wall and only one song on the album was over six minutes and David Gilmour and Bob Ezrin were responsible for how the album turned out while Roger Waters bullied Richard Wright out and also forced Storm Thorgerson out and eventually Bob Ezrin out. The Final Cut was orchestral rock and Roger bullied Nick Mason out and David punched Roger out. The Final Cut was the lowest point in the band’s history. The fact that there was no tour for the album is telling. Then Roger believed it was over but in 1986, David Gilmour and Nick Mason said that Roger left and were going on without Roger and rehired Bob Ezrin, Storm Thorgerson and Richard Wright and made A Momentary Lapse of Reason although Mason and Wright were hardly on the original album because their confidence in their musicianship was ruined by Waters’ bullying. About a week into the AMLOR tour, Gilmour, Mason and Wright were playing like a band again and Delicate Sound of Thunder had Nick on all drums and Rick playing the keyboards like he once did.
      Genesis also went short song route and people blamed Phil Collins and his solo career for the change. Punk and New Wave shook rock to its foundation.
      Queen used drum machines and synthesizers and alienated the whole fan base in the States.

      Obsolescence only applies to trends and the entertainment industry, not art culture and the vocational creativity of professional artists/ You're erroneously equating commercial success with artistic integrity and the ascendant vibrational cosmic energies of songwriting/ Billions of years from now we'll still be listening to songs from Kiss, Dio, Accept, Rush, Great White, Ratt, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and other great artists from the '70s and '80s era/

    I think Gene got credit for producing for a few reasons .
    1) Making sure he was still engaged with what was going on as well as showing respect to him in a way that wouldn't hurt their relationship
    2) The other thing is to keep up appearances with the band that gene and Paul were still a team that worked as one to the fans.
    3) Paul knew Gene being was integral to the brand, and they both have been careful of that brand in their own way over the years..

    You skipped over a very important Kiss album - Creatures Of The Night. Their 10th studio album ,released in 1982. This album is important because after the disaster that was The Elder, it was kind of like the beginning of their comeback.

Had no idea that’s where Bon Jovi got the idea to work with Desmond I actually love Vinny Vincent’s work with Kiss and with Invasion, and out of all the guitarists they’ve had, he was so talented as a songwriter for that cock rock style that Kiss were chasing at the time. Too bad it didn’t work out, and I think it’s fair to say that Vinnie made some mistakes.

    Unfortunately this is a mediocre album due to the fact that Gene was not fully vested in the making of this album. His songs on the album are weak. His presence is missed. Luckily Paul had a good batch of songs which helped save this release from total disaster. Also St. John overplayed on this album. His solos don’t play to the song. Luckily Kulick took over shortly thereafter and Kiss seemed to regain their footing.
