I love that the roof opens ! Two years ago I was going to add to a friend’s Gnome area. I had used some store-bought cheap doorways and made windows from both kindling and wood pieces I gathered from her woods. I planned everything for the outdoors as she works with developmentally disabled children with her horses and they would be playing with it. She already had some Gnomes in various sizes so I added details to them, like one cent coins painted gold and glued to be piling around their feet, bridges, splitting sticks for stairs around the existing real tree. I planned for outdoors with plastic bases from various sizes of bottles and gorilla glue and others and river rock. I bought spray outdoor sealants. Just plan a little for your final site and it works. I am so excited about the foil !!! “Who woulda thunk?” I will research different kinds of fillers meant for outdoors instead of masking tape & paper towels, though. Thank you, so very much.
using corrugated plastic, foam (the pink/purple stuff at home depot or lowes, the white foam board sold at dollar stores, or "great stuff pond foam") and spray paint would handle the outside a bit better if you're still looking for materials to build things outdoors. I've personally made a fallen log house out of foam,a plastic bottle, hot glue, discarded hand wipes, air dry clay and modelling paste. it's got 3 layers of marine varnish it's weathered a small frost and multiple rainstorms, it's still kicking.
thank you so much I was so tired of trying to become a sculptor with these clay houses it was expensive & hard but with your ideas & ways it's easy & beautiful
THANK YOU SO MUCH!My son (23yr. & autistic) & I are working on mushroom house #2!!We love ur videos, you're an excellent teacher! !Your time & talent is truly appreciated. ..my son &I have lots of quality time 2gether,thanks to your techniques! !❤❤
oh my goodness, you just made my entire evening! Thank you so much. I'm honored that you have enjoy the videos with your son, that really means a lot, truly! Lots of love - Sharon Ojala
So cute. I went on a dollar store shopping spree today with list in hand to begin creating this week. Watching this gave me an idea to make a bee skep house. Can't thank you enough for the effort and time you give to share so much inspiration. It is greatly appreciated. And for not having carpentry skills, you do very well. Thanks so much.
Sharon thanks so much for getting me out of a slump, art things I wanted to do were expensive and there was always that road block, I'm now inspired that you can do fun things with inexpensive items. You bring joy and delight as does your dad and aunt. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent as usual! Thanks so much for being a really needed tutor like you. I am flabergasted at all the things I have learned from you so far! you ARE the best....
Wife loved this and wanted me to make her a mushroom house. Got the basic structure done and making details like a wooden door, fireplace that lights up and a well for outside the house.
I so enjoy your tutorials, they make me smile. I can tell your heart and soul goes into your work. Keep up the awesome creations and keep the videos coming. Thank you for sharing your talents....
Im so excited about the tutorial since I first found you I wanted to make a mushroom house ,thank you so much for this tutorial.I love it and I love the colour I hope I will not worry about measurements as I often do! Thats my hold up but I cant wait to give it a really good go. Cheers Sharon Deni
Hallo mega super, endlich jemand der es ziemlich genau erklärt, wie man so eine tolles haus basteln kann. vielen, vielen dank für dein Video. grüsse aus der Schweiz....
Hi Sharon, I'm so excited to watch your very helpful video regarding how to make a Mushroom house! Yours is so amazing and beautiful! I'm going to try to make a smaller one for my "virgin voyage" and I'll send you photos if it turns out somewhat presentable. Then I'll try to make a smaller version of your MAGNIFICENT Gnome House!! WOW!! You are BRILLIANT! Thanks for everything! I'm so glad I found you and your creations online. You are truly inspiring!
Adorable!!!!! Thank you for sooooooo many great tips and how to's. I think I have watch EVERY single video you've created about 5 times over and over! Getting started this summer on a Big Fairy house (many rooms)
that's so awesome to hear, thank you!! Have fun with your building and if you're on facebook you can post pics on my page if you want to facebook.com/AwesomeDollhouses/
I just recently found your site, you are amazing, l love your ideas, My name is Mona, and l make fairy gardens, thank you so much for sharing your love for carfts
I loved making this for my granddaughter…I did use paper mache clay over the taped foil to add extra strength. It was a great tutorial, learned so much. Is there a way we can share pictures with you?
your videos are so great thank you for sharing. I'm looking into making some for my daughter's calico critters they run expensive and this would be great to make.
Would this be OK too keep it outside then to out a big rock on inside for weighing it down? What would be the right gloss weather proof spray? Tis beats crocheting one lol
This is so inspiring Sharon I am thinking about building a little fairy world in my garden for my little granddaughters but I’ll have to use modelling clay I think 😊😊😊
waooo...je tombe par hasard sur votre chaine...quelle merveille !j adore et je m abonne car je sens que je vais me "regaler" sur votre chaine❤ Merci pour ces moments "hors du temps" 🙏
Hi Sharon! I've been obsessed with your Chanel ever since I came across it about a week ago. I'm I glad I found you! Love, Love, Love your work. If you have a moment could you please tell me if mod podge would be a good sealant and does it have to be satin finish. Also do you think chalk paint would work. And for tacky glue would other glue such as carpenter glue work? I'd like to try and make 4 of these mushroom houses and put a battery operated tea candle in them for night lights for Christmas for my grand children. I live in the country and have limited access to the different types of material you are using. Thank you for sharing this Amazing work with me.
Wow! Sharon! I knew you last year for your crochet videos, and didn't have an inkling that you made these mushroom houses also (altho, technically, they're toadstools... lol). I was stunned and delighted to stumble across this video. Excellent artistry, and as usual you are as precise in this form of artwork and tuition as you are with your crochet projects. Do you have any videos of your past clay houses? Will they be on your YT channel; I don't have a facebook account, and don't plan to get one, but I would love to see some of your clay houses. I'm definitely gonna watch your Gnome house tour! Thank you for this most happy surprise, and for sharing it. :)
thanks very much! I don't have any videos on my clay one. It's done the same way, foil, tape, (I add a layer of paper towel over that but it's not a must, I just like the surface it gives me for clay) then a thin layer of clay over that. I spread it out with my hands. You can wet you hands for a smoother finish. I use a homemade clay, the recipe is on my channel but you can use any clay recipe, there's many out there. I'm on instagram, I'm trying to upload more to my blog as well. When I post to my blog I will announce it on instagram instagram.com/ojala_crafts/
@@WhereTheGnomesLive I took your 'Gnome House Tour; it's amazing! Simply extraordinary and superb! So intricate in details, right down to the little chests and plates in the plate rack. You are just the same with your crochet art; very neat and detailed. I made many of your projects and animals. I used to sign in with my full name Lauren Piantino back then. Yes, I make my own clay too; I just make the fairy houses as a sideline, I'm a portrait artist first and foremost, but when I get the time I like to relax and do some craftwork etc; I find making the small houses out of plastic bottles, glass jars etc very therapeutic. But your Gnome House takes the biscuit. lol. You must be so proud of it; as indeed you should be. You are simply one very talented lady! :)
I want to make this on my large bird cage for my catherina parakeets but i want to make it light ,what type of clay should i use so i can still cean it with a dry brush i want to make the treebark and the mushroom and fairyhouses so they can roost in it these birds are not distructive like most parrotlike i would like to make something like the fairy houses and mushroom like you do could you give me some tips Thank you,you really got me hooked on this ,so nica what ypu can do with waste.😀
you'd need a sealant, like marine varnish or 4-5 coats of clear spray paint. The PVA glue is water-soluble, and the towels and masking tape and paint would biodegrade without a waterproof sealant.
New subscriber. Absolutely love your work with yarn and gnome homes! One question, would newspaper work as well for paper mache or is there a specific reason for using paper towels. Asking bc I can get free 'end rolls' from newspaper office with tons of paper left on them! TIA.
Just adorable! I am wondering if you will show us how you make a Gnome please.
Quote: "the beauty is in the imperfection" OH HOW RIGHT YOU ARE. Thumbs way way way up!
Thank-you my daughter has been seriously ill but now found you and now she's enjoying every minuet making these houses so pleased😊
