After like 10 years of on and off playing this game, I finally scored 100 points against the CPU on very hard with CPU assistance on. At the buzzer for the 100, best feeling of my life, seriously. This game is so freaking amazing and I'll play it forever
My buddy and I found a old NBA Jam arcade cabinet a few years ago at a recreational facility in Edmonton, Alberta and we played the hell out of that thing while waiting for his neice's figure skating practice to be over, good times
I've been watching your vids for the past several months, and love them by the way. You're a great narrator and reviewer. Because of this vid, I found out you're a fellow Minnesotan! Niccce!!
Oh yeah, I still remember having a lot of fun with this game and those cheat codes. Damn it. I miss arcade style sports games where you can have fun regardless of being a fan of the sport. I still remember games like Neo Turf Masters, Baseball Stars, and Super Shot Soccer. Granted, there's still a couple of games like the Everybody's/Hot Shots series on Playstation consoles, and games like Mario Golf/Tennis are fun even today.
@@jonathanturbide2232 It got average reviews for some reason, and there was a 7-year hiatus for the franchise after that. Then the next iteration went back to the 2-on-2 format, emulating the 90s games instead.
NBA JAM Extreme technically has nothing to do with the series, Acclaim stole the rights off Midway, hence why their game is called NBA Hangtime after T.E.
NBA jam extreme (on PS1) is an important entry in the series no less, it was an actual arcade machine too. It even plays very well if you give it a shot and don't be one of those "why's there a blimp in it" or "the CPU always catches up when I'm winning" type of people.
Best strategy I’ve found: 1) try to get on fire, even if you have to goaltend to do it (goaltending will give CPU the points, but won’t count against your streak of 3 shots needed to get on fire.) 2) Block every shot then pass it to your CPU teammate to score (there’s also no goaltending called against you when you’re on fire.) Your on fire will end after you sink 4 baskets, but your teammate can make unlimited shots and you’ll still be on fire.
*I remember that. It was 2k before 2k. It was the best basketball game at the time and I was really hyped to get it. Me, my father, and brother played it a lot along with Street Fighters II.*
I used to play super nintendo at my friend's home, and there was a time he had borrow this game. I learned to play in like four seconds and was having a blast, but he soon switched games because I was kicking his ass.
Myself and 6 other coworkers play our work mame cabinet about 3 or 4 times a day. We've been playing for about 2 years now. We have discovered that the arcade NBA JAM TE is incredible and can be compared to how dynamic a simple looking game like Smash Bros can be. I have been looking to see if anyone in the Philly are (Where we are located) plays. As you can imagine we have become very good and versatile at the game and its many play styles that people bring to the game. I wonder if it would be possible to somehow host online play. I should ask our dev team. Where are you located?
One note about NBA Jam TE vs the original. TE is a lot harder to play against the computer... Your strategy is basically wearing the other team down by injuring them, and banking on catching up in the fourth quarter if you're up against a team that is playing you rough back.
NBA Jam is an all time classic. I prefer playing on the Genesis because, the SNES game doesn’t have in game music. It’s not very often you can say the Genesis out does the SNES in the music department.
Cornerstone of any nutritious 90's breakfast. Give me the Magic with Hardaway/Anderson + Grant down low or the Cavs with Price & Daugherty - either way I'm going for a dunk & dishing for wide open 3's. Could be top 5-10 most fun game of its era.
something crazy happened. i have 2 copies of this game, one with my initials saved onto it, one blank. i was playing and i turned off the power and quickly switched to the other cartridge with no saved initials onto it and i discovered that my initials were copied onto the other game that didnt have anything saved in it? thats crazy also if done properly when switching cartridges, once powering on the game will skip thru the copyright screens and go straight to the title screen
I know I'm 6 years too late, but you described me to a TEE, I couldn't give a flying F about basketball, but I love the daylights outta this game!! I remember when it was at the Greyhound Bus Station in downtown Minneapolis, I'd play the crap out of it waiting for the bus to go back home to LaCrosse, before I finally moved here!
Thank you for praising NBA Hang Time! NBA Jam but with 5 players per team and a create a player mode? What's not to love? If only the non-Mario arcade sports genre were alive and well.
But... SNES D, the overall stats of the Timberwolves in SNES T.E. are really rather good, and some of the most well rounded in the game! Also, none of the 3 are midget sized!
Michael Jordan couldn’t be in the game because it wasn’t in Midway’s budget, but even without Michael, it still went down as one of the best games ever made.
Does the announcer even say BOOMSHAKALAKA in Tournament Edition? I played about 5 full games in a row and never heard him say it once. I even ripped the sounds with SNESSOR and it's the only sound that's missing that I can think of. I do know he says it in the original game and the sample is included with the rip data.
this video uploaded 6 years ago and i found it on UA-cam and i kindly want to ask you guys , how can i control both players ? I mean is there a way to stop CPU to control the 2nd player ?
Wish they would make it playable on Xbox One PS4 PS5 Xbox series X you know the same gameplay and everything but better graphics and uniforms and stuff man would that be dope.
I had some good times playing this game as a kid! But I had some legendary times playing this on the Wii in high school with my homie nick lol 😂 we’d have some wild F’N games I swear
I'd say this is one of the best sport games on the entire system. Fact is,that I can not play it without just beating the hell out of my control. I don't get to steal the ball. I just suck at playing this omfg geez. For my entire life this has been a game like in turns. A turn is for the CPU to score, and then for me. I just barely get to steal the ball. Any tips? I have never in my life beaten this game. I just wanna enjoy it, but I simply can't
Prince Charles.. playable character LMAO Some things don't need explanation, this game was awesome. BOOM Shaka laka! "He's on fire!!!"And you can break the board too, shatter the glass iirc.
Not a fan of basketball but this game is awesome as shit! This and mutant league football was the only sports games I bought for the 16 bit wars! 8 bit well punch out!
Also SnEs D, one very important thing you forgot to mention here. You brought up the completely forgettable NBA Jam Extreme, but totally left out the literal best game in the NBA Jam lineage... SHOWTIME - NBA On NBC! Sure, the PS1 version is trash, but the N64 version is very playable, and the one that I personally owned from release, the Dreamcast version is nearly arcade perfect! Brother, if you haven't played it please do yourself the favor and do. It's perfectly emulatable on Null DC if you feel like going that route, it's one of the still cheap DC games if you have a console in which the damn GD-ROM drive still reads discs, if not it's an easy system to burn games for anyway, and even the N64 game is still affordable, and well emulated if you feel like going that route. But just forget about the PS1 version, the system isn't nearly capable enough to run the game without essentially ruining it, but it really is the pinnacle of the series while holding down the core of what made NBA Jam work so perfectly to begin with, while keeping it 2 on 2. Bonus is that you have Garnett in his prime on the Wolves, and not his rookie incarnation from Hangtime. Also since I've seen you mention NBA Hangtime in a couple videos now, if you don't already know the N64 port of that game is a hair short of arcade perfect, and nearly unrecognizable from its SNES and Genesis iterations. Totally worth giving a go if you haven't and would like to see the game the way it was actually meant to be rather than the seriously watered down 16 bit ports, as much as they served me well in the late 90s on my Sega Nomad. Hangtime on the go back then? Hell yeah, played the shit out of both ports actually, but once late 99 hit and I got Showtime that's all I needed for 2 on 2 basketball. By the way, I hope you've given Midway's NHL version of NBA Jam a shot whether it be Gretzky 3D or Gretzky 98 on 64, or NHL Hitz 02-03 on PS2 GC XBOX. Great stuff as well. I hope YOU have a great rest of your day my good man!
How dare you insult Christian Laettner! Possibly the greatest college basketball player of all time, but top 3 for sure. Anyway, love your videos, keep it up SNES drunk
I only have two complains about this series, first: is so fucking hard stole the damn ball to the opponent and two: there is no music while you're playing, yeah in the Genesis version there is music, but sound like crap
This is in constant rotation on my arcade cabinet. So damn fun
Avalanche Reviews just beat Snatcher with a friend yesterday. Good icon, bro.
Love this game. I have it on the Genesis and every couple of days I'll get this text from my neighbor "NBA JAM?"
Wes Robertson
Lmaooooo
I still play this with my friend :)
Bro I play with my dad every night, shit is so fun 😂😂
Wes Robertson is that code for head and a pancake 🥞
NBA JAM?
After like 10 years of on and off playing this game, I finally scored 100 points against the CPU on very hard with CPU assistance on. At the buzzer for the 100, best feeling of my life, seriously. This game is so freaking amazing and I'll play it forever

You should’ve offered to buy it
I love you for having said BOOM SHAKALAKA at the end, you know that right?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂I love that saying.
I've been watching your vids for the past several months, and love them by the way. You're a great narrator and reviewer.

Baseball Stars was really fun. I remember the American Dreams, those guys were loaded!
Hey, take it easy on JR Rider.
Love the attention to detail when he did the quote at the end he made sure to make the rising "ooooOOOO" before the emphatic "BOOM-shaka-laka"!
My favorite is Acclaim's NBA Jam 2004 (released in 2003). Very underrated game.
It's an NBA Jam game, it's definitely not underrated. Anything NBA Jam related is always sure to be a hit.
@@jonathanturbide2232 It got average reviews for some reason, and there was a 7-year hiatus for the franchise after that. Then the next iteration went back to the 2-on-2 format, emulating the 90s games instead.
HE BROKE THE BACKBOARD!!! JAMS IT IN!
NBA JAM Extreme technically has nothing to do with the series, Acclaim stole the rights off Midway, hence why their game is called NBA Hangtime after T.E.
Hello You!
The original games were a joint venture between Midway and Acclaim. Little hard to say that the IP was stolen.
NBA jam extreme (on PS1) is an important entry in the series no less, it was an actual arcade machine too. It even plays very well if you give it a shot and don't be one of those "why's there a blimp in it" or "the CPU always catches up when I'm winning" type of people.
Used to play TE with the speed maxed out, hot spots and powerups...big swing in games in multiplayer mode!
I never understood why they removed the shattering the backboard feature, when supposedly TE is turning up things
When the CPU beats you in a full screen buzzer beater. 10/10
With .02 on the clock lol
With a low three-point percentage.
I had this game when I was a kid. It was so much fun. I used to play with my friend Quintin when we were kids.
thats isaiah rider on the T Wolves and he was a beast look up his highlights...pretty sure he won a dunk competition...
Best strategy I’ve found:
1) try to get on fire, even if you have to goaltend to do it (goaltending will give CPU the points, but won’t count against your streak of 3 shots needed to get on fire.)

I used to love playing NBA Jam! Even if I not into sports I would love to play it with my brother again. I missed those days when I was a kid.
Had fun playing this game again,it came out when I was 10
Just imagine how even more perfect the game would be with Shaq, Charles Barkley & Michael Jordan…
JR Rider was a stud. He won a dunk championship
Only flaw is the exclusion of Barkley. He was on early versions of the original. Guy was such a character.
I remember play NBA Jam Tournament Edition on Snes so much is one of my favorite sports game ever Snes when I was 7 years old kid since 2008.
NBA Street 2 is still my favorite arcade basketball game. The legends roster was awesome and 3v3 made for some more interesting plays.
best basketball video game ever.
Dumisa Tony Johnson *baseball
I just scored this cart while on vacation. It's surprising how hard it is to find this one when regular NBA Jam seems to be everywhere.
I wonder who would join to compete if I ever hosted this NBA Jam. :P

Small world, I'm down in TN & Christian Laettner is my good buddy's cousin. Have a great rest of your day :)
@SNESDrunk Can you play old teams?
Meaning, can you use this game to play the 1983 Sixers vs. the 87 Lakers etc??
It's the game that made me love basketball and video games. NBA Jam will always have a special place in my heart.
All right, and I want to thank you for watching and have a rest of your day
What is more ridiculous is that this game was probably the best basketball game until 2k10
jhon viel nba street was fun too
Live 03
It's still the best basketball game.
so true....
Hangtime was the game changer
NBA Street Vol. 2 for ps2 was my best Basketball game ever
It's my go to. I'm glad I got my friend to hack my snes classic. I think out of all the games, I play this the most lol
I have the sega version of this game. I prefer that a little more because there's no music during the gameplay in the super Nintendo version.
I thought the 4 words were going to be "Altitude with an Attitude"

JR Rider and Christian are legends.
I will ride or die with JR Rider beetch!
Having Prince Charles as an unlockable character is so beautifully random...

I used to own a version of this game for the SNES. I would always play as Bill Clinton and my friend would play as Mike D. For Minnesota of course.
But... SNES D, the overall stats of the Timberwolves in SNES T.E. are really rather good, and some of the most well rounded in the game! Also, none of the 3 are midget sized!
Yeah wolves pretty underrated, I do well with laetner.
This and Tecmo Basketball, the best of the best. Then Hangtime on N64.
For me NBA Jam is the epitome of 90's and almost part of NBA gold age.
Boy, if this has Michael Jordan on it, it would have gone down as one of the greatest video games of all time regardless of genre.
I think there is a code
Michael Jordan couldn’t be in the game because it wasn’t in Midway’s budget, but even without Michael, it still went down as one of the best games ever made.
one of the MUST HAVE snes games imo
Lots of fun playing as a kid. Still enjoyable.
There was a 2004 version which was quite fun.
The music was also elite
JR RIDER LEGENDARY

What is the code for dunking anywhere on the court? For snes?

Sounds fun. The 90s was awesome.
I remember paying $30 for a used snes copy not long after it was released. Probably the best $30 I ever spent!
That's king charles now son.
He's on fire

childhood game! love it

NBA Jam T.E had better A.I as you progress in beating the teams compared to the original one it was a breeze
He's on fire🔥🔥🔥🔥 i made so much money in the 90s off of nba jam in arcades,, great video
Isiah Rider.
Who was air dog?
This game doesn't take itself seriously and that's the charm of it.
Best NBA game SNES and arguably arcade ever🤓👍

NBA Jam is amazing.
The game is great but the one part I don’t think aged well was having Bill Hillary and Prince Charles in it..
This was a good time...but on Sega CD.
💩👎
MEGA D 64 1979 oh ye of little faith
succinct, love it
they need to put some shut out for ps4
Boon Shaka lLaka Laka. Crazy character codes
