episodes like these are why I love this show. It's like a cartoon there's dopey characters, funny plots, a little bit of pop culture that's not all that serious, and lots of fun.
I grew up playing the Sega Genesis version and had no idea there was no music in the Super NES one, that's just crazy! Great job on this episode guys, love this channel. 💟
The music in the arcade version of NBA Jam sounded very good, it had quality and its volume was lower than that of the sound effects or the referee's voice, being in the background. It was really well implemented. The music in the Genesis / Mega Drive version sounds downright awful (monotonous and remarkably midi) and plays at an excessively high volume ... which is actually quite annoying. Yes, I know that many will say: "At least there is background music", but honestly, I am grateful that the SNES version does not have that defect. The rest of the music sounds much better in the SNES version, as explained in this video. That is just my opinion. Sorry for my english.
@@MartinRodriguez-qk4hc This. Amusingly enough, all the time I never had music on the SNES version: I didn't expect it. It was somewhat expected that a basketball match didn't have background music because you're concentrated on your gameplay. So, the ball dribbling and the shoes squeaking on the ground gave it a more immersive feel. The interludes between matches where you were shown the current score, had digitized (even if repetitive) videos of players slam dunkin' and statistics. All with appropriate music and colors that actually made it feel like an actual game you'd see on TV. This is why I loved NBA Jam, it gave me that feeling every time and it did too to some co-workers who never played it until I started bringing my SNES to the office for us to have a couple rounds in lunch-time.
@Anthony Cook never said it was an issue. Just after the video showing that the Genesis version has music on the match and they started arguing that it made the game better: I realized that I pretty much don't care that the SNES version didn't had it at all. Like I said, at the time I didn't think it was strange because I figured it was emulating a real match and the dribbling and squeaking just gave the game a more immenserive feel.
@@hrvallejoMKT Different strokes... The music on NBA Jam Sega Genesis sounded very good and the electronic sound really added to the atmosphere of the game.

I have never seen Nintendo beat Sega in the sports category. And once again Sega wins...... What are we on now........four straight in a row for Sega....?
I prefer the Genesis version aswell. (Not only because of the music) BTW: Do you guys capture with composite cables? You really need some RGB cables and a SCART to HDMI converter. The Genesis's RGB signal is fantastic and you get the best picture quality. You will love the colors on the Genesis, trust me!
I'm here to fifth the notion that their capture of Genesis is off. SNES does have a larger color palette; I won't deny that, but their footage of Genesis games is always worse than it should be.

This is the one I was waiting for! Great work again! I truly enjoyed it as I knew guys would do an excellent job breaking down each version of the game. I agree with the judgement as well. I had the SNES version as a kid and a friend down the block had the Genesis version. Not being too observant at the time, I could never really figure out why I had so much fun playing the Genesis version over the SNES. As you guys said, that music during the gameplay makes a huge difference. Also, what even ticked me off more about the SNES version, is that password system never worked for saving Records/Initials, where the Sega version has a battery save for multiple Records/Initials. This was the clutchest feature for me back in the day, as it was easy to compare all your Records/Initials against your friends. More like having the arcade at home.
when discussing the graphics, you gotta bring up the artifacting on the genesis. I'm assuming you guys did this with the same cable type on each console. The Snes smooths those jaggies much more adequately.

I agree; I remember renting both and the Genesis version won me over because I could "Jam" out to some tunes while playing.
@@miriamalmeida6687 I got both, but the Genesis a bit later, but afterwards, most of the ports I got were always for Genesis. @gone.golfing Having owned both at the same time: for me, it was 2 things -> A. the character/action audio difference in the two systems(not to be confused with SG's main music audio). In a BEU or FG, this flaw would happen several times per minute throughout that whole game. And, that was a lot of games, too, in Sega's gaming library. The SNES didn't skimp on that audio; yhere's rivaled the next gen PS1...B. SNES had the better potential/set of games -> games like KI, DKC, Ninja Warriors, TMNT4(better on the SNES), SMW/SMA(better than Sonic), NBA Jam versions(better, too), etc. There were more examples, as well.
SNES was newer and had better color. Sega still had some good games and it's sound was unique. While it sucked for voices, it was awesome in it's own way and still stands out to this very day.
@Hatemode_NJ I think the SG had the ability to visually and CPU wise copy anything the SNES could(and vice versa--well enough). For me, though there was a giant cost: It was SG's character/action audio! You can argue that without this flaw that they had the better potential of the 2 systems. The problem is the character/action audio is a giantic deal in a whole lot of games(think of how many beat em ups and fighting games a console can have and that your competitors might have)! Final Fight series(being compared to the SOR series)*, Ninja Warriors, TMNT, Contras, SF series, MM series, KI, etc. Plus, you hear blasters in airplane games, as well(almost the same kind of game as a beat em up). *I'd rather play the FF series than SOR series due to the char/action audio that happens every second of every game. @gone.golfing Maybe so, but that doesn't necessarily give it any victories here. Other than the fact that people were willing to buy the lesser of the 2 systems. Not like the SNES doesn't have a mega following of its own. It's still the better system here. Even to this day. Sega fans never could see the light. The SNES is far more superior than the Genesis. Winning in almost every Gamepro shootout at the time. Had a better chip. Better sound quality and graphics. Better games. Better controllers. In fact, Sega went out of business due to poor sales. That kind of tells the story for ya. Not even the Saturn and Dreamcast could save it. I actually found those to be pretty solid efforts, but the PS1 came in super hot and put the nail in the coffin. I think the first Sega Master System had a better platform. I loved that game. With that being said. Genesis had moments. I liked a few games. Streets of Rage, Jurassic Park. Snes traded music for shoe squeaks. And there hasn't been shoe squeaks in nba jam ports since. Not even Sega Saturn in TE has the shoe squeaks. Plenty of shoe squeaks in the arcade though. But i suppose music is slightly better than shoe squeaks. Ppl can forget about shoe squeaks. Never forget the shoe squeaks!
The sound of the dunks/jam says it all. SNES NBA Jam, you can hear the rim rattle and shake when there's a dunk. On the Genesis, you can barely hear anything when there's a dunk. How can Sega win? Terrible.

I like what you did with your theme tune and title music this time ;) cheeky little vocals
I like this acapella version of the theme better. It's very cheery!
who did that song of ur intro
Sega has music! Yea but its sega music. Farts lol
😂😂😂 The notorious and Signature sounds of sega 😂😂
There was NBA jam tourment edition with the new Cleveland cavaliers and the new sacmento kings logo
Do nba jam t.e next
The sound of the dunks/jam says it all. SNES NBA Jam, you can hear the rim rattle and shake when there's a dunk. On the Genesis, you can barely hear anything when there's a dunk. How can Sega win? Terrible.
Saga Genesis has more voice samples. I know..I owned them both and played them via emulation.
im pretty sure u can turn music on in the options on snes
Hey console wars do NBA jam tournament edition Super Nintendo vs Sega Genesis who will win.
