This man is proof that short, succinct game reviews can be just as popular as the longer ones. Seeing a new SNESdrunk video pop up on my feed always starts my day out right. Thanks for the hard work and quality content, man!
@Love_Yourself4830 Right there w/u...for a long time he was just the voice, until I saw the face of the game summary wizard! LOL I actually wish he remained just a voice...Legend.
The way the Amiga worked, most games could only have music or sound effects but not both at once due to its hardware. There are some Genesis/SNES ports of Amiga games where this is also the case, but Full Throttle here was an SNES exclusive as far as I can tell.
@@burtblando8806 I always got the feeling that they'd get a musician who'd use all four channels, or felt they needed to. I do recall later games using only 3 leaving one clear for sound effects, or most cleverly of all have sound effects override something high-pitched so the rhythm would keep going and come back in after the explosion (or whatever) died down.
Gremlin Games are normally top in playability and music. This is a rather strange exception. Sound effects or music screams "cheap home Computer port". Development backstory would be interesting.
I've been watching you for many years now, and I just got to say I have to appreciate the amount of love that get put into these videos. Unlike some of my videos where we have a lot of crazy cartoon antics, you're just straightforward and to the point. And you're still entertaining as all heck! Thank you for being so cool for so many years, and thank you for checking out some really neat and gnarly stuff LOL
What a coincidence though that there's another 90s game with "Full Throttle" in the title and involves riding motorcycles and hitting other riders while riding.
Good review! I've never even heard of this game, but I guess there is good reason for it. Now that Drunk has mentioned it, I expect a "Full Throttle Improvement" patch to be released in a few weeks.
Nice video, but the non-recommendation comes about 30 years too late. My old school friend and I loved this game and whenever one of us had money, we rented it from the video store. Admittedly, now that I can see it again and realize that it actually had so little content, we had a lot of fun for the time (I was 12 or 13 years old at the time). I was only surprised by the graphics, I somehow remembered it worse.
This makes me want to see a video of the Console Wars guys comparing Full Throttle with Road Rash. From my memory, a lot of the problems you identified with Full Throttle are also present in the Genesis version of Road Rash 1 (but were mostly rectified in Road Rash 2 & 3), so the head-to-head comparison would be interesting.
Wow, another one I dont recall seeing back in the day. Great review. Weird how you cant have sound effects and music at the same time, very Atari ST like.
Oh man, I used to love this game so much as a kid! I would always have little snippets of memories of this game but never really piece together what it actually was, until now! Shame to hear it doesnt live up to what I remember...but it will always be a special game to me and I'll never forget it for that ❤.
If you haven't, you should review Kawasaki Caribbean Challenge. I remember renting it regularly as a kid, and revisiting it as an adult it was still fun.
Didn't know that one. It looks neat but I really think racing games should be more forgiving about crash sensitivity for the sake of fun I'm also on the club of those who thought you were about to talk about the classic point and click by Lucas Arts, that would be awesome
Some other racing games offer the option between sound effects and music as well. The issue is that probably the sound chip didn't have enough channels to handle everything properly. Lotus III on the Amiga does the same, and it is a much more polished game
It's sad that this game only has three songs. This is a system that had the soundtracks of F-ZERO and Rock 'n' Roll Racing, plus that racing theme from Chrono Trigger!
I got moderately excited to see that the arcade Full Throttle was ported to the SNES. Which, if I remember correctly, was kind of a follow-up to Out Run. This doesn't seem related though, sadly.
I knew about Cannondale Cup having Road Rash-esque combat on bicycles, but didn't know about this game. It's a shame Road Rash never actually made it to SNES
If you want a good Road Rash-like experience these days, check out Road Redemption (Steam, etc.). It's not a perfect game, but it builds on the Road Rash concept very nicely and is quite satisfying to play.
Ugh, that flashing during the road scrolling would lead to eye fatigue, fast. Also, the other fun part about Road Rash was seeing just how far a crash would throw your rider, skidding across obstacles. This one looks like it's the same boring animation over and over.
Totally unrelated: You made videos about games and ROMs about Halloween and Christmas, you made special videos for Thanksgiving... Do you plan making something for Valentine's? :-)
I wonder if at some point the racing was done with vehicles (as you mentioned, it seems to be using the Nigel Mansell engine), making the hit boxes for the bikes wider than they should be if they weren't adjusted properly? Anyway, looks like it *could* have been an a'ight time.
Another good video thats not Koai. I'm sure that those games are good and have there audience but personally not for me. And not so many of them all in a row. But this content is perfect. Obviously that's just my opinion but thanks all the same 👌👍
If you want a good motorcycle game I played one on my TurboGrafix using a PC Engine adapter. It was called Racing Damashii or ‘racing spirt’ it’s awesome and from IREM! Would love for you to review it!
Can you do Nigel Mansell's World Championship Racing next! I grew up with that game. When I was still collecting games (around 2015) I noticed it was everywhere and it was cheap. Why is that?
I'd rather play one of Gremlin other games without combat in it such as Top Gear 2 or Lotus III (like you mentioned in the video). For combat games i'd much rather play Road Rash on MegaDrive/Genesis. I don't actually find the sprites that good in Full Throttle, the traffic cones look awful to me. Having said that, the mode 7 plane they used for the river in the jet ski levels looks nice, probably because it's more head on than Mario Kart which rotates a lot (a lot of the ones where the track rotates, the plane looks awful). Battle Cars on SNES is a well car battler i don't think you've reviewed yet, more akin to Mario Kart and doesn't look that great lol. Kat's Run Zen-Nippon K Car Senshuken is probably the nicest looking driving game on the SNES imo (Super Mario Kart is up there too). TY, i still enjoy the vids after all this time! Such a resource your channel for knowing if something may or may not be interesting to me or worth giving a shot.
Whenever I think of games with motorcycle combat from 1995 with "Full Throttle" in the name, I think of the LucasArts adventure title for the PC... ...and whenever I smell asphalt, I think of Maureen.
Gremlin were based In Sheffield, England (the city where I live). I've played this before, hoping it would be a good SNES Road Rash alternative, but it isn't. Gremlin's Top Gear games were great though.
I know this comment is pretty late but please check out Lupin Sansei: Densetsu No Hihou wo Oe for the Super Famicom. It's an anime based platformer and it's solid. Unfortunately, there is no English patch but I would love to see more awareness come to this game so that something like that could happen. I'm a huge Lupin the Third fan and I think even someone who isn't one could get something out of this game. But Seriously I really want an English patch for this one but as it is, it is fairly English friendly.
Does anybody know why so many european developers back in the day made games with a choice of either music or sound effects without both simultaneously? I know many euro games had both music and sound together but it seems like a good 1/3 or maybe a quarter of them were either or. Was it a personal preference or maybe a cultural thing? I've always wondered that as a gamer from the US.
Most UA-camrs are very slow-paced in their reviews, but I love how you always go into your videos full-throttle.
I SEE WHAT YOU DID WITH THAT!
I like these short, succinct reviews because I’ll watch them for ANY game even if I’m not normally into the genre.
Well, a whole 30 minute to 1 hour video review/essay on a game like Full Throttle: All-American Racing would be a bit redundant to say the least
I'll never skip a snesdrunk review for this reason
I don't know what succinct means bit I saw a zucchini once.
European Devs: You want music AND sound effects at the same time?
Music is awesome
The way the Amiga worked, most games could only have music or sound effects but not both at once due to its hardware. There are some Genesis/SNES ports of Amiga games where this is also the case, but Full Throttle here was an SNES exclusive as far as I can tell.
@@burtblando8806Yep, they even manage to ruin Battletoads on the CD-32 like that, with neither option matching what the NES could do years prior.
To be fair Road Rash has the same limitation.
They 100% saw Road Rash sales and said “let's do that."
4:37 Nothing unusual here, folks.
when you fail they suspend your racer in stasis right there on the road until the next race 😔
12/10 just for the "Kids in the Hall" reference.
Well done.
ALL AMERICAN RACING!!!
Made by Gremlin Graphics in Sheffield, North England.
Gremlin Games are normally top in playability and music. This is a rather strange exception. Sound effects or music screams "cheap home Computer port". Development backstory would be interesting.
I like this approach of finding "coulda been good" games and fixing them.
I've been watching you for many years now, and I just got to say I have to appreciate the amount of love that get put into these videos. Unlike some of my videos where we have a lot of crazy cartoon antics, you're just straightforward and to the point. And you're still entertaining as all heck!

For a second I thought SNES Drunk was reviewing the 1995 LucasArts Point-and-Click PC Game and got very excited!
I thought the same thing! PCDrunk!
Same. :D Now that's a great game!
Maureen…. She said her name was Maureen
It has a dope rerelease on PS4 online store too same with Day of the Tentacle. I put them on my Vita too
What a coincidence though that there's another 90s game with "Full Throttle" in the title and involves riding motorcycles and hitting other riders while riding.
Good review! I've never even heard of this game, but I guess there is good reason for it. Now that Drunk has mentioned it, I expect a "Full Throttle Improvement" patch to be released in a few weeks.
I had this game as a kid. The menu theme is a vibe and has stayed in my head all these years later.
Wasn't expecting a Kids In The Hall reference. Loved it. Great content as always

That's the beauty of playing games with friends, even crappy ones can be a blast 😁
They were either too ambitious or too cheap lol. At least it made do for most folks.
Always curious why Road Rash was never ported to the SNES.
Blast processing was required. 😎
Hi there I remember that other company maybe "THQ" was going to port RR3 around 95-96. Never happened. Probably you already knew it.
Some sweet Mode 7 Road Rash would be nifty
HELLO YOU
@@BobLee-df4zh have you seen its framerate? 15fps is certainly no blast processing...
Total length of video: 300 secs.
Total length of "SNES Drunk" 3.5 secs.
1.2% of the video was spent listening to "SNES Drunk".
Hello Fellow Statistics Colleague :)
Thank you.
Yanno, I'd be happy if we quadrupled that number. Such delightful harmony!
I think it was interesting that the timer has a section for sub-seconds but it never seem to do anything. Thank you for the great videos!
There's stuff like Rock 'N Roll Racing and Biker Mice from Mars on SNES which are combat racing games. Though isometric but I guess all the same
Literally just played through road rash 3. Such a fucking great series of games, and as drunk said, it still holds up well
As soon as I saw the track scrolling I knew this was a Gremlin developed game. The rain and snow effects are even borrowed from Top Gear 2!
Missed opportunity with Crush to show a picture of Crush from Demolition and say "No! Not that Crush!"
Demolition to me was always Ax and Smash, Crush was just a filler.
I played Full Throttle extensively with one of my brothers growing up. We really enjoyed this one, despite it not being as good as Road Rash.
Memory unlocked. Used to play this as a kid, at my friend's house. Back then it was a fun playthrough.
Is this game 2-player by any chance?
@@xyklapse Yes
This makes me want to see a video of the Console Wars guys comparing Full Throttle with Road Rash. 2:22 dude is like 6 feet away from the barrier lol.
3:07 ah yes, the elusive "giant monolith on the road" obstacle.
Steve grogan was my first starting lineup figure…
Holy crap the KITH "Buddy Cole" Scott Thompson reference was God tier.
Haa! 1:37
That really does look like a younger Mark Henry.
😄👍
I didn't expect to see a Kids in the Hall reference today. One of my favorite comedy shows growing up.
Lol I had Mansell racing and it was basically a dust collector
Good morning and lets all have a great day!
That closing animation was perfect. Great review, too.
1:36 Mark Henry needs the salmon colored jacket for this game.
Wow, another one I dont recall seeing back in the day. Great review. Weird how you cant have sound effects and music at the same time, very Atari ST like.
Funny, because I am currently playing Road Rash 2. As expected, the last level 5 is so difficult, even with savescumming.
Oh, I remember when I recorded a gameplay of this game for my channel. 5 minutes of pure agony! 😂
Oh man, I used to love this game so much as a kid! I would always have little snippets of memories of this game but never really piece together what it actually was, until now!

The motions and textures in this game would make me dizzy and gave headaches. And now just by watching this, i got some dizzy spell.
Oh the memories.
The harmonies of the SNNNNNNNES DRUNK were pretty cool.
Almost thought this was a demake of the pc full throttle game
😊agreed
Any video that gives love to Steve Grogan gets my respect.
I traded this game in recently. It’s fun for a bit, but I agree. The look-a-like references were great. Steve Grogan 😂
Nice job putting the bone in the shot when you said “bones”

A KitH reference? That's an early thumbs up and extra signal to the algorithm to share.
Oh yeah, that mode 7 is the good stuff.
Uh, no idea this had two racing modes. The more you know, thanks SDrunk 😅✌🏼
1995, a re-used engine and clip art for menus. AT&T charged long distance for this phone-in.
I rented this in the mid-late 90s and I have been looking for this for a while. I recall the jetski portion but the game had nothing on Top Gear.
I knew about Cannondale Cup having Road Rash-esque combat on bicycles, but didn't know about this game. It's a shame Road Rash never actually made it to SNES

How did they screw up the sound????
Track for the motorcycle part look amazingly similar to Top Gear 2 - (not so) surprisingly by the same dev.
Have a great day, man!
I loved Rock -n- Roll Racing. The music got repetitive, but it was a fun combat racer.
Saw Full Throttle and immediately thought of a different game. Can imagine my shock when I started the video hehe
I must say that in-game music does sound familiar.... Was that based on an actual song?
Can you do Nigel Mansell's World Championship Racing next! I grew up with that game. When I was still collecting games (around 2015) I noticed it was everywhere and it was cheap. Why is that?

This would do well today. We need a new game in this genre
Another great combat racing game on SNES is Battle cars.
Looks like top gear 2.... I love that game on the SNES :D
so i put a RoadRash playlist playing in the background, just loud enough to drown out the SNES

Road Rash was sick on Sega Saturn
Never seen this game, cool!

Is it me or the water level looks super slow? at least compared to the regular road levels

Buddy Cole was my favorite
I didn't look at the thumbnail and was like "Full Throttle was ported to SNES? what?" And then was like "oh. Oh yeah."
huh, I remember renting this back in the day
Came here thinking it was a SNES port of the popular PC game, but I'm not disappointed though.
It's still a better game than its prequel, Half Throttle: Largely American Racing.
SNES Drunk should review Knight Rider Special for the TG16.
Music *or* sound? Yup it's a British home micro dev alright.
I was expecting a SNES port of the Lucas Arts game.
Has everyone played Skitchen?
