I'm looking into getting the S5IIX soon as well and this is an interesting accessory if it works with the autofocus in video mode.
There’s a USB port to help with firmware updates, but I’m not sure when firmware updates will happen and how good it’ll be. My main concerns are adjusting aperture for the EF-S lenses at school. But, the price. I just can’t get over it. Works great though for my needs at school. Again, I have another year to wait for the next round of school funding. Hopefully, there’s a solid firmware update, or another drop in filter from Sigma and/or Meike adapters to L-mount.
Happy to see this cos I migrated away from Canon EOS R body & VERY expensive lenses but kept my lovely Canon EF glass. I bought a new Lumix S5 (S5 II is awesome but the S5 is too and nearly half the price!! ) Using a Sigma MC-21 EF to L mount adapter makes for a more affordable setup and it works perfectly. So I reckon my next step will be to add a variable ND filter. Thanks for the share!
I’m glad someone out there found this helpful. I really don’t like filters in the front now. I have been using the Meike drop in filter for my EOS RP and I’m loving it for casual videos like vacations, vlogs, and docs. It made working with my camera doing videos more fun again. 😁👍
The only sacrifice I’m making is higher ISO when recording in doors. But, the Meike has a clear drop in filter too. It’s a fun setup and I travel with minimal amount of gears when traveling.
Another awesome video Mr. Heng 🙌
Thanks!
AF works well with Sigma EF2Lmount adapter. Works like native glass. I was hoping for the same with this adapter, but if AF is lame ND does not make it good adapter :(.
But, for people who don’t need AF, this is a viable option. It’s the only ND that can make footage go completely black. I’m gonna wait for more options down the line.
@@mrheng562 I think most people buying the Lumix S5ii are buying it for the phase detection. It's the main selling point. Panasonic are historically poor with AF and excel in every other videocentric area.
Did the autofocus work with the EF L lenses?
Yes, I used the L lenses. But, the AF is still not reliable. It’s best to use this for electronic aperture adjustments and then full manual focusing only. The VND is nice as a barrier to block out dust participles when swapping lenses in the field.

But does the phase detection in the Lumix S5ii work, that's the real question. We know the Sigma MC-21 works. Does this!!
It could be there was a setting I missed since I'm still getting to know my s5iix, but with my initial test of the sigma on my sigma 28mm, it didn't work. I could see the camera tracking me on screen but the lenses focus didn't budge. Again. Could be user error. Plenty of settings i need to relearn. Also didn't check if there was a firmware update for the sigma yet. But yeah. Slapped it on. It could auto focus when I half held the shutter but didn't continuously auto focus
I had KidHaru test it for me since he owns that combo. There’s your answer. Too bad, but it’s still good for full manual lens with you’re working with a team to pull focus.
Wait my bad! I brain farted when I saw sigma MC21 and was testing that. With the fotodiox It focused perfectly if I recall correctly. It also had the benefit of no x when you adjust the ND if I remember correctly. I returned it a month or two ago since I'm switching to s series lenses but I considered it. Personally I would prefer the Mieke drop in adapters But since they don't currently have a EF to L, This would be my alternative choice
@@KidHaru So you used a Canon lens with the FOTODIOX (with built in NDs) and the focus tracking and everything else focus wise worked perfectly. So the phase detection in all modes worked as it should on the canon lens? Is that correct? This is a big deal if so as the ND filters are a plus.
Gh6 iam waiting for S5iix
I have both cameras. Panasonic is so underrated. 😔
Nice Thanks
You’re welcome! What camera do you have that can possibly use these adapters with VND.
@@mrheng562 I Was Thinking Of Getting The Panasonic s5ii x Also
@@FRANKRICECOLD209 , cool. I'm hoping a new firmware that improves the AF for this adapter.
Hang in there ... one day maybe someone will make an usable Panasonic adapter ( until then I use Sony cameras and a 7artisans adapter )
I’m waiting on Meike to make it happen. 🤞
sigma mc-21 is 100% usuable with no flaws for canon ef at least
@@dsmsquad83 , yes. I have it. But, it doesn’t have built in VND? That’s the only short coming of the MC-21. It’s great for all the other stuff. 🙂
no it is not - just try any Sony + 7 Artisans adapter @@dsmsquad83
