    Must have been expensive to record this with a live orchestra 😆
    Good info though 👍

    Update for anyone on the Lumix s5ii/x looking for the EF vnd adapter:
    The passive fotodiox version looks like a good solution for EF cine/vintage lenses.
    Kind of funny how I got the Lumix s5ii for autofocus and now mainly use manual focus exclusively.

      does this adapter allow you to control parameters in lenses? I have an S5 and S5IIX and was thinking about buying one

    • @CartyCantDance
      @CartyCantDance 3 місяці тому

      @@mariohazard821 not the passive one. I think the active one lets you control aperture in EF lenses, but I never buy lenses without an aperture ring

      @@YourStoryStudios Yeah, I watched multiple videos on this Fotodiox product and finally decided not to buy it. The electronics inside is kind of a russian roulette. It even killed one guy's brand new camera. Sorry for being too harsh in my previous comment. I've spent too much time to get to the information I needed and got a little antsy.

      If it went to clear it would be a sure winner! There's always a gotcha.

      disagree. I'm very familiar with this product---they make them for several cameras.
      This is meant for outside run and gun shooting, which really starts at 2 stops. In doors the last thing you need is a filter, and if you do you're a lot better off to use a non-variable to get just the perfect F-stop you want in a very controlled bright lighting scenario.
      If this adapter went to "0" you would invariably (no pun intended) end up with taking two stops off the top----the actual two stops you will need most critically in outside shooting.

  • @avarmadillo

    thanks for this video, but really the test for the Fotodiox should be outside---that, IMO, is its real value.
    I have actually ordered this adapter--but plan to use it with non-electronic lenses--Rokinon---outside, run and gun. The this gives several benefits---based on the fact I've also used this same adapter for different cameras.
    1. No need for lens ND filters.
    2. Variable ND in the adapter protects the sensor when switching lenses.
    3. No "X" crossing in the ND filter that can ruin your videos.
    I"ve been very happy with the results on other camera---but we're talking about use out and about. I see little value in using it in studio.

    • @YourStoryStudios
      @YourStoryStudios  3 роки тому

      Yes, correct, this adapter is meant for outdoor use. I saw people asking online if they could use it indoors, so that’s why I made this video. The answer is “yes, but… “ - as long as you know the compromises it could work for you 👍

    • @avarmadillo
      @avarmadillo 3 роки тому +1

      @@YourStoryStudios The needed compromises are doable. The value of NOT having to lug around an array of variable ND filters-----priceless.

    I'm thinking of getting this vnd adapter to use on my S1 and xeen 135mm t2.2 manual cine lens as it has 114mm front end! Obviously the AF performance is irrelevant for cine lenses, but I'm interested to learn more about the VND performance, is it stepless, and does it apply much of a colour cast when adjusting strength?
    Cheers in advance.

    • @YourStoryStudios
      @YourStoryStudios  3 роки тому +2

      It's smooth and stepless. In regards to colour cast, most nd filters do affect the image and can be fixed in post.

      The Fotodiox does change the look slightly but nothing that can't really be fixed in post, or is a big concern for me. Focus speed is about the same depending on which lens you use. Will need to test these adapters out more!

    Thanks you for this test, but... Testing ND vari indoors is kinda pointless

    • @YourStoryStudios
      @YourStoryStudios  3 роки тому

      Sorry you found it pointless. I've seen some people ask whether they should get the mc21 or the Fotodiox. If you shoot inside and need an EF to L-mount adapter, the Fotodiox probably isn't ideal for you and you should get the mc21. But if you have enough light you can still use the Fotodiox... but that would generally mean you'd need powerful studio lights.
