I’m only 13 but I’ve grown up in Western Australia where land cruisers are king, I’ve loved them since i was like 3 years old. I’m currently saving up for an 80 series bog standard but I’ll upgrade it later. I don’t have the best budget range because well I’ll still be 16 but so far I have $4000 and my parents are gonna give me $6000 to help. I can’t wait and I love watching these videos because it lets me imagine as to what my 80 series will look like in 3 years
Wow!! 1) that first scratch is going to hurt after all that work...but adventure is necessary 2) ❤️ OB#0000 3) repurpose, recycle, reuse, love it 4) “more time than money” 👍🏼 May God grant you continued success
Ok so you say “nope” to fender flares delete, then we get to say told ya so whenever you knock off a flare! Nice work on the 80. Glad you fixed your fuel sender and eventually made it home from Truckee OReilly’s parking lot. Nice to meet you in person.
With regards to leaving fender flares off, "Nope!" Oh alright! ... loving the playing cards for painting the wheels. ... the ending! ... that looks REALLY good. She's looking beautiful. I love it when people spend a bit of time and bring their old girls back to life. Great job
Looks fantastic! I own a 95 FZJ80 and just completed a cylinder head job and a bunch of other stuff while I was in there. I really enjoy taking it out in the desert and mountains. Your truck is what I look at for ideas although I'm not as hardcore offroader as what you do. I love watching your videos and maybe I should join the club!
If your rig is new and free of desert pin stripes consider putting a paint protecting film on before you go out there. Keeps it clean if you ever want to sell it and if you don't sell it you still protect the paint which protects the metal from rust etc..
I'm the opposite of the majority. When I got my 80 last year, I worked to get her looking good first. Now, I'm all about getting her in shape mechanically.
What an amazing video this is awesome. I just sold my FZJ80 and I regret it but the Lexus GX 460 I just got is amazing. Thank you for posting these great videos
Ha ha! I have done a ton of vehicle work and house renovations and almost none of them have been as smooth and easy as an UA-cam tutorial or forum has made them out to be. There are always gaps in the presentations. I knowingly laughed when you acknowledged that maddening fact of life.
just curious if you had thought of adding and sound deading material like dynomat to the rear .. it would help with noise of course but also some very minor insulation value as well as a cushion for anything rubbing on metal.
I know on your Instagram I said, in a weird way, I felt betrayed with you polishing up your 80 but man did you do a great job. All that work was worth it. It looks amazing and It's making me want to go through that "hell" to polish mine up. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. It was entertaining to watch
The main reason I got a new 4 runner was for it's trail-ready, reliability. For a few grand (over time) I can have her completely armored up. I will probably do a level g kit, but not a big lift or giant tires. For what I do her stock configuration works....99% of the time.
OK first off... I started laughing when I notice the "quick wardrobe" change from the intro to the garage... I don't know why but it killed me... Also 10mm is right for everything right ??? :} Ya I'm a Jeep guy Great video though, wish we could do that up here but it's now in the minus Celsius double digits or for the next 5 months or so, so projects are on hold for the most part. Stay safe !!
Are those stock toyota wheels with the hibs revoved and bed liner sprayed? If so how do they hold up? My hubs just got stoleen of my 96 fzj80 and im between spray lining or replacing them
Looks fantastic Michael! Now I think I might need to invest in a polisher to get started on my Jeep. Love the light covers, great touch. From 4696 to 0000, nice job!
The 80 looks awesome, great job! Next time you may want to use Black polish and Black wax by turtle wax. It helps hide the pin striping better then the white polish/wax. OB 1334
Hey Mikey! I liked it I liked it a lot!!!!! It's like a Phoenix rising! A profound metamorphosis, etc. You get the idea. Perhaps a few of those outward opening windows on the rear sides of the vehicle. That Corrie wanted??? Happy wife on the travels! Just sayin! Cheers, Mate.
Hi. Where did you get the rubber things (not sure what they called) that you put on the fender flares. At about the 15:26 mark of the video. Need some desperai

Love the refurbish mate, excellent job it looks amazing. One concern though, those bow shackles aren't just attached to point on the bull-bar are they? Those ain't rated for recovery, you might find yourself in a bit of strife if you load those up.
I got wayyyy too much pleasure seeing the end result.... too bad my Nissan Patrol got pelted by hail and is up for a hefty dollar job to knock the dents out :( I'm looking into becoming a member despite me being in Italy... been following OB for years now... thanks for the quality content and comic relief! Alberto P.s: passing on this video to my friend and his beat to shit HDJ 80 (24 valve TD)
Lots of questions about the trim I used for the fender flares. Here it is! amzn.to/2K64GoE

Add on some scrub bars on it which will protect the fenders from big rock hits.
Outstanding fj80
Polish job is what makes the whole thing come together even though there's so much more. Good Job!
Holy Cow!!!! Nice job on cleaning that girl up!! I never would have expected that paint to polish up that good. Very well done Sir!

That came out real nice. I say, sitting here watching this instead of fixing the rust on my land rover.
Haha
Great job of freshening up #0000. A lot of hard work, but it certainly paid off in the end.
You Sir are an enabler. I'm liking it. The Princess? She's getting on board. Thx.
Blinker fluid is very important 👏

Nice work, Michael. Good to see a UA-cam Overland personality that actually wrenches on his own rig. The refresh turned out fantastic.
I would be proud to be the owner of that 80, before or after the makeover.

Man, I love This Old House, with Bob Villa. 9:15 Hey, it does look really damn good with your updated flares.
Looks great. I did a similar refresh to my heavily pin stripped black 4Runner. Repaired Trim pieces, paint, polish, buff, ceramic. Feels really good.
just curious if you had thought of adding and sound deading material like dynomat to the rear .. it would help with noise of course but also some very minor insulation value as well as a cushion for anything rubbing on metal.
Yes! I probably will!
Enjoying the diy and shop work on the 80.

She looks grat! It's amazing what a little TLC can do to the look and feel of a vehicle. Great stuff!!
Simply delaying the inevitable. Raptor Liner. Bring it to my shop in P-town stripped down and she’ll be prepped and spayed in a long weekend! Lol.
Job well done, she looks awesome

This was a wonderful and entertaining. It came out well
Think you will need some locknuts on those turnbuckles to stop them from coming lose.
Thank you for another awesome video! I was wondering is a 1996 model with 250k miles worth considering to buy?
