Best 4WD Ever Built!
Don’t forget the pesky heater hose, oil leak trio from the distributor/oil pump cover/front main seals, leaking/clogged sunroof drains, and the valve for the heater core. Wouldn’t trade my 80 for the world though!
My 93 LC has 342, 000 miles and runs like a champ. Yes to a lot of these issues but mine is not a daily driver so I can live with the minor issues.

Get your seat belts redone at safety restore. Solve function sells a shaky mirror fix. BH3D printing sells cup holders. This solves a few of the problems mentioned 😂
I'm looking for a nice used passenger belt, since they're all in good condition in the US. It's the driver's that wears out here. The one time that having RHD will save me some $ on parts!
Safety restore is a legit business. Many folks on iH8Mud and other forums have used them. Super quick turn around usually within a week when I did mine.
Is solve function a website? My mirrors are so bad I have clear tape holding them in position!
Don’t forget about the centre aircon vents that break and then face down every time you go over rough terrain.

For sluggish windows, if possible, change the stock wires with heavier gauge wires. You can check by applying power directly to the motor and if the speed improves, then change the wires. I did the same to my 15 yr old Lancer and it worked like new. This should work for any car.
More problems especially for the usa:
16: no diesel engine
17: no basic terms such as standard LC80 in the GCC specifications
18: unreliable engine so engine overhaul is a common thing
19: no manual transmission in usa
20 no manual windows

Antenna not going down all the way. Both front seats stopped working. I have owned two. Both 97's one 40th Anniversary and one Collector. the 40th had front and rear diff locks. Worked great. I lived in the snow belt. The second I used for eight years in Baja California. After eight years, the rust started around the windshield and roof rack etc. I loved the car, but I live in an upscale condo and it no longer looked good without a paint job. I sold it 2 month's ago Eleven years of total ownership and no regrets.
I think we all agree, we would sooner sell our organs before selling our 80’s. There’s no other vehicle that even lasts 30-years old like an 80 and we all love our 80’s quirks, as much as our kids, sometimes more 😂
The problem is that Americans just know about LC80 😂
I'll tell you one fact that the LC80 is not the best 4x4 😂

No. It isn't better than the y60 nor y61 and y61 still Nissan makes it up to date. Y60 and y61 are beasts. See the liwa ceremony in UAE mostly modified y60 with engine swap and you can't find one LC80 maybe scrapyard
way back in 2006 landcruiser became availble here in the philipiines.i and my 2 brothers bought it. we never took it in any dirt road. it was only used for regular roads and hi-ways.then one day my nephew was maneuvering his dad's landcruiser to make a u turn the rocker shaft(part of steering box where the pit man arm is attach) broke. when our mechanic went to a nearby toyota dealer the part was readily available. you do not have to wait for the dealer to order it.then the 3 of us decided to sell all our landcruisers.the only good thing was after using it for more than 3 years we were able to sell it at the same price as we bought it
I have 28 years old LC 80 series and still no problem...run better than a new car.. still can go anywhere..city drive, off road, crossing river, muddy road...no problem😊😊

Hello, I previously owned one with a 1fz carburetor engine and a manual transmission, Saudi specifications. The car’s odometer was broken at 683,000 KM 5 years ago before I sold it. All I can say is a great car and I still miss it.

Dont forget the steering boks rebuild after 450 000km, but i still loVe my Very old hzj80series
I found a nicely worn in (150,000 miles) HDJ81 with the 1-HDT turbo diesel. A little surface rust, fluid film to the rescue. My windows are slow as well, might need 2 new batteries.

He,He, I'm still daily driving my FJ60. Minor issues with Carb and Brake master pump. Going to an Aluminum FJ80 master Brake pump soon. I think I will be using it as a casket at my age.
15 out of 15 of these problems are made up by this video maker. This rig is as perfect as it gets.

I restore 80s for a living and could add more. Heater hoses leaking; drive shaft vibration passenger rear lock actuator doesn’t work. Dif lock actuators inoperative, diverter valve for the washer fluid sticks spraying front and rear at the same time. Seat gears, rear main seal. Passenger floor gets hot from cats. Egr codes. Steering box has a lot of slop in it. Power steering fluid leaking everywhere. Block cracks at freeze plugs. Steering wheel play up and down from stripped threads. Clock spring squeals when turning, power antenna inoperative. Cross contamination of grease into the front dif. Frame cracking at front panhard mount. Fusable link blows. So much more but this is revised. Great trucks but there service trucks. You preform services so you don’t have to replace parts as often
Now I feel lucky I don't have most of those. My clock spring squeals when the weather gets cold.. I had no idea that was a regular 80 thing!
Question: I have 315/75r16 tires on mine and the spare I got is the same size but different company so its a bit taller, Is it ok to run as a spare being AWD and if yes or no how long would it be dangerous to???
It really depends on the height difference. For example if your tires are all the same size and have worn tread and you put on the spare with brand new tread, you're not going to do damage.

SLOW WINDOW FIX !!! INCREASING The voltage supplied to the window motors speeds them up significantly and extends the life of the motors
or swapping to manual window winders
Someone said increase the supply wire size , apparently there's a lot of volt drop because of the amount of current going through the wires under load.
How would you increase the voltage? ...mine are slow!
Don't forget the broken latches on the dual compartment center console, so when you open the bottom one all your goods in the top get ejected to the passenger floorboard

My 1990 Aus spec 3fe has 1 cup holder and 6 ash trays,, drivers side seat worn out, slow windows but its a slow car, peeling clear coat, but its unstoppable off road, I've had other turbo diesel 80s but i love my old 3fe its like a tractor slow reliable and cheap to service, i have another turbo diesel 80 parked up for over 15years just waiting till my 3fe dies
The 3FE's are about as bullet proof as the come... enjoy it for the rest of your life!
@@6thGearGarage after having a few 1HD-T engines this last 80 i got i looked for months for a 3fe had it near 15 years now runs on petrol /lpg, the 3fe is a low maintenance tractor engine bloody great off road drives like a diesel without the high maintenance costs it does chew fuel but with lpg 1/2 the cost of petrol/diesel im well ahead maybe when my 3fe eventually dies i will pull out my low km late model turbo diesel out of the shed again but until the its 3fe for ever lol

Except the leaking head gasket and the knuckles I don't see any of the other points a problem. It's the best 4wd ever built...get a Corolla 2023 if you are looking for the other features.

@@6thGearGarage I meant a total of 10 on the list - ha. But of course #10 up and down - nose to toes. There is a whole summer of wire brushes planned. I JUST joined the D light club like 3 months ago.
At 2:34 it is not an 80 series but a pre 1996 Hilux This is confirmed by the leaf springs a couple seconds onward. The 80 series has coils at all 4 ends
Good eye, you know Toyotas well! I needed a shot of some very leaky knuckles, so that part of the video was my 1985 Xtra Cab.
I own a 1996 80 with nearly 600,000 kms and I only have maybe 2 of these issues like any car it depends on how it’s been looked after
Also you can fix the d light by driving manual 😂

Yeah, although most of them aren't a big deal. I still wouldn't trade my 80 for another SUV :)

12mpg...OUCH!!! at least your gas is cheaper then Ca's $5.39 for super which I have to run in my LCE stage 2 stroker w/.50 lift cam....but do get 17mpg city and 19mpg hwy all while getting 160HP out of a 22R. My MPG is only about 1mpg less then OEM w/ only 103HP.....
We're at about $3.75 for regular 87 right now - I guess I can't complain!

That's a great comparison and I'd love to make a video comparing the two, as I considered both. 3rd gen 4runner = better mpg, somewhat cheaper to maintain. 80 = built like a tank, larger w/ 3rd row. For a daily driver, the 4runner makes sense, especially for a decent/long commute. The 80 is bigger and overbuilt in every way, but VERY thirsty. I love my 80, but it costs me $15 to $20 an hr just in gas to drive it, depending on if gas is $3 or $4/gal. Once the knuckles are rebuilt, hoses, fluids & brakes replaced, it's not too expensive to maintain an 80, until the headgasket issue happens. The first 8 months of owning my 80 were expensive because the previous owners neglected maintenance for a while: ua-cam.com/video/5b9VlgYF96M/v-deo.html

It's a great vehicle- I love mine. I just want to show potential buyers the kind of things to expect. Every vehicle has its share of problems, luckily most of the 80 Series issues are minor.
I love these videos it’s not about picking it apart. It’s showing us the common things that fail. I also own a 1981 Corolla wagon and yes it too needs servicing.

Seatbelt enertia locks not supposed to be pulled during motion, belts on before drive, *cup holders not required , driver has good one✅* weather strips part of life- but window winders are poor wiper motor electrical connectors- rattle mirrors easy fix, just push a foam ball into the shield area, rattle gone, adjustment still achievable, failed to mention the pesky heater hose and heater selector valve $30 part, can case head gasket failure, keep on top of that little bastard
I think Americans got the shit ones here in Australia we really don't see them issues if its got the 1hz diesel motor its bulletproof and wind up windows are a must also put a dash mat on the dash stops cracking , problems with Americans they want the fancy stuff and have all the luxurious things but that comes with unreliability after age 😮
100% agree, most Americans never even had their 80 off roads, just driving the kids to school and trips to the mall. You guys put them to the test down there.
