Tip for making the bolt holes in the carpet, when you find the hole below, poke a soldering iron into it, it will melt a hole in the carpet and finish it in a way that the edges of the carpet round the hole wont fray open in later years.
Thanks man! The stitch worked out good! I think I’d of been more bummed if it was a restoration but in the end this is a off-road rig with some lipstick on it hahah
Diffs are currently out of the truck! Taking them to a buddy to get setup and then getting re installed. Rebuilding the knuckles at the same time which there will be a full video on!
I need to learn how to weld, looks like fun work. My HDJ81 has some small rust spots in the wheel wheels that need to be done. Seam sealer for the win! Wire brush for the under carpet. I have a few stacks of Noico to do as well. Thank you for a great video!
I have a 3D printed cup holder where those shifter console holes are. You will want it as 80s have crap holders. Also - 4x4 labs makes a basket system that mounts on those 3rd row seat mounts.
Always amazes me people want carpet floors in a 4x4 , rubber floor matting is the go , just my opinion tho , is it used to take kids to school and shopping then carpet ok , but you going atchly 4wheel driving , if so rubber flooring a must trust me
I initially wanted rubber/vinyl flooring. The only option I found available had bad reviews as far as how well the fit/finish was. Carpet with weather tech floor mats is plenty of coverage in my opinion! Without those mats, I agree it wouldn’t survive haha. This truck sees everything from deep mud to rocks and the interior still looks just as good as it did end of this video! I always make it a point to keep it clean inside. At most I have to remove the mats and pressure wash them & clean any mud that manages to find its way into a window that I didn’t put up in time haha.
Props to you for putting yourself out there for not being perfect with your welding, you're still better than me mate hahaha. Great job overall though really.
I'm just doing a bunch of these jobs myself. Great job @Adv4x4 ! Did you remove the gas tank for welding? it's one of my main concerns with the job. Thanks
No sir as it was just a broken wire on the sub harness that runs from the back of the VSS sensor on the tail of the tcase, to the first connector on top of the trans. I started ohming the harness which is 3 wires and saw one was open and not ohming so pulled the sub harness out (super easy) and found a broken wire and fixed it 👍🏼 Before this I pulled my speedo assuming the board was fried like most are and it was fine. Also the scanner was showing that the VSS was read MPH so I knew both of those were okay and it had to be a wiring issue.
Here is a link to the speedo repair I was going to follow if that’s your issue. I ohmed across all the connections shown on the thread and mine were good which indicated the Speedo head was fine. forum.ih8mud.com/threads/broken-speedometer-repair.989985/
@@Adv4x4 I went under and found that my speed cruise control sensor is bad. Leaking trans oil, so I need to fix that first. I wish I can post pics here to show you.
Feel free to send me a DM on IG glad to give some insight. About to start tearing into the front knuckles of mine right now so may be a delay on a reply haha. instagram.com/adv.4x4?igshid=MmIzYWVlNDQ5Yg==
I did not! I actually took the back seats out completely after this video. I never have other passengers besides my wife and the extra space/weight savings for camping was ideal.
0 seconds ago I have this 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ80 (gasoline) and has a problem related to the ABS. When the vehicle almost comes to a complete stop, the brake pedal vibrates with a sound and tends to drive the vehicle to the right. If I disable the ABS, this concern does not happen. My mechanic tried cleaning all the sensors of the ABS, but the problem is still there. Can you please help me out?
Hey- 95 driver here. Just remove the 2 ABS sensor holder bolts on top backside of caliper/knuckle housing, and pull it up gently with the wires attached. Use a clean rag and wipe the pronged magnetic sensors off completely. Reinstall, that will buy some time until metal shavings build up again. Ideally get in there and Clean out old grease. Replace the front bearing set and race rings to specifications. Hope that’s a temporary fix. $300+ diy, or 1000+ if shop. It’s not that hard to do in my experience.
It would think so! I’m just not sure about all the other bits being interchangeable. For example any of the plastics that butt up against the dash. As well as the connectors for other items such as factory switches in the dash!
I hate carpet and any vehicle I can’t believe manufacture, still installed carpet. I would have it plastic like the commercial vehicles have , that shiz will last forever. Carpet hold mold . Allergies, bugs , ect

That’s awesome advice! Thank you
I'm finally getting started on my adventure trailer.
Awesome Robert! Good luck on your build!
Dude! You totally delivered. Great recap on all your recent work. 89 is really coming along now. Hope you had a great weekend.
Appreciate it Mike!!
awesome work, working on one myself, lots of work, but very satisfying to be able to drive it.
truck is looking great! on that carpet cut, if you used some heat sealed carpet seam tape and carpet iron, you could close that seam to unnoticeable.
Thanks man! The stitch worked out good! I think I’d of been more bummed if it was a restoration but in the end this is a off-road rig with some lipstick on it hahah
Really nice truck! Can’t wait to hear about the 37s and suspension set up and the re gear

Nice build , the LC cleaned up real nice.
Appreciate it! It’s coming along!

It’s a very useful skill to have! Thanks for watching!
Love your channel! Teardrop build and now a 80series!! Freaking talking my language! Keep it up!
Thanks man!! More to come!!
Another one! Nice job, John!

The truck looks good
Thanks man!
Cool vid...anything 80 series Land Cruiser is pretty awesome.
I couldn’t agree more! So much character to these trucks.

Rubber is fine unless moisture gets underneath it. If that happens it gets trapped and rusts out the floor.
Why didnt you put vinyl in? I have it and it's awesome. 70 series son!
Take a look at Leatherique for the interior leather. .detailed image has some good tutorials on using it.
Will do! Thank you!
Props to you for putting yourself out there for not being perfect with your welding, you're still better than me mate hahaha. Great job overall though really.
Sheet metal is definitely not easy! I can weld exhaust much better then that which I can’t wrap my head around how that makes sense 😂
Hi hi! Did you have to replace the outside window weather guards? Great content 😊
I have no replaced anything with the windows as of yet! Thanks!!
Looks great! I’ll need to do this carpet too. Did you do a video on the speedometer fix? My odometer is broke.
I just saw the reply to the speedometer question.
Sorry I never got back to ya comments get buried in notifications!
Hey Nice video , you mentioned, you fixed the speedometer? How ? I’m having issues with mine .
A wire in the harness from my speed sensor on the T case had been severed!
Looking good
Thanks man!
I'm just doing a bunch of these jobs myself. Great job @Adv4x4 !
Did you remove the gas tank for welding? it's one of my main concerns with the job.
Thanks
Hey man! I did not remove the tank. If you have no gas vapor leaks (smell fuel) you will be just fine as it’s a sealed system!
Great video! You said you fixed the speedometer, is there a video on that?

3d printed cup holder on ih8mud will cover those holes by the shifter
Thanks!
It seems like it would be better to glue the carpet to the floor. Idk why but the factory carpet lies very smooth and even.
It would be nice! Unfortunately that wouldn’t let you be able to run wires or anything of that nature under the carpet once it was in place.
How are you going to make your own console????
Did you reinstall the rear shoulder belts?
I did not! I actually took the back seats out completely after this video. I never have other passengers besides my wife and the extra space/weight savings for camping was ideal.

Are all the 80 series dashboards interchangeable? I have a 92 with a different dash and want to switch to this dashboard on your Land Cruiser.
It would think so! I’m just not sure about all the other bits being interchangeable. For example any of the plastics that butt up against the dash. As well as the connectors for other items such as factory switches in the dash!
91-94 same 95-97 same.. good luck
Cant get better if you dont try! What better vehicle to work on sheet metal skills than a off road one ?!
Very true! Yes my thoughts exactly. Perfect truck to learn things like this on!
Wash carpet and seat before puting it back
Is that the leatherman mutt? Demolition version?
Yes it’s the MUT! The regular version not the EOD with crimpers.
👍👍👍👍👍
So happy with how it turned out!

Thanks man! Knuckle rebuild will be next 80 vid. Waiting for my regeared diffs to get back to me 👍🏼
