Hey Marty on electric six string guitar, I was wondering if you could teach Surrender By cheap Trick or working for the weekend by Loverboy
I think you are a good guitar player and love the way you make it easy for people to understand what your saying. However there are many good bass players who do a great job helping people learn bass and with you attempteing to teach bass is taking away from the ones who are great at their instrument. Just my opinion you should leave the bass to better players.

@@fleurr.11 What do you mean you sort of have a bass?
Chess_Kings Haha, I totally forgot to specify on that, it sounds like I have half of a bass or something. My dad used to play bass, so he owns one that he doesn’t use and he basically gave it to me. I still feel weird about using it (which is why I haven’t) so that’s why I wrote sort of.
I also have sort of a bass, found a broken one at a garage sale for 5$ (it’s amp and little turn nozzles are missing/broken) but I figured I’ll just practice till I actually get one that works

This video actually helped me a lot as someone who’s learning a new instrument especially a rhythm one (I’m a trumpet player normally) this actually really helped me to grip the basics. Now I just need to improve on the muscle and finger control to be able to play faster
When you grasp the bass learning the guitar won't be difficult. I played the trumpet in the school band and picked up the guitar at 16. I'd like to learn the bass and make some music of my own. It's easier just to be your own band.
I’m pretty much the exact same lol
ive had my 4 string bass for a couple months and havent touched it till today. I hope it brings you joy knowing that after 4 years of this video being up, you are still teaching beginners and inspiring to keep going. ❤️💪

Hey Marty! My Father was a brilliant self taught guitarist and bassist. He taught Nancy Wilson to finger pick and play. He taught me to play guitar and I picked up his bass guitar tonight and you made it easy and less intimidating. My Father passed away over two years ago so, I am sad he isn't here to help. You made me feel I can do this with much ease.

Sounds like a fun Friday! :Good luck on your endeavors! :)
As a beginner in the literal meaning of the term, not a beginner from another instrument, not a beginner who has learned the basics, but a true beginner, I find it a huge barrier that every bass teacher for beginners chooses songs that are too hard, or that only have an easy riff, but the rest of the song is impossible for a true beginner. Can we please start with a song which is slow and easy from beginning to end? Beginners need enough time to get their hands and fingers in position, figure out muting, play along in time and pick the stirngs properly. That is a ton to keep track of. A song please, that's slow, easy, just quarter notes, beginning to end. Not just riffs, not just intros, but a recognizable song easy enough that you could put a bass in the hands of someone who has never played an instrument, and can play along. I hope you take this to heart Marty
.

Me too! I'm super stoked, I used to be in marching band and played tuba so bass is just my thing lol, never learned to read music, but for me, as long as I know where the notes are and how to get to them, I'm pretty good (at least I was in band almost 10 years ago lol, i hope I can still pull it off)
I have always been curious about bass and electric guitars, never found where to start to learn, until now.
Thanks youtube algo, you creep me out, but keep finding shit I'm interested in.
Welp, time to buy a bass.
I've been playing bass for over a year now once you start playing there's no going back! I saw your notification thinking what guitar lesson is for today? Then I saw bass, I can't wait for the lessons/ songs you'll teach! Thanks Marty, also nice bass
I'm an organist but decided to learn bass--- something that has always been on my bucket list. Thanks for this beginner lesson!
Thank You Marty for all you do. You are making this 65 yr old a very happy Lady. I laid my Bass down years ago. Hand problems, stopped me from playing. You are helping me bring back the joy of playing. I got a smaller sized Gretsch Bass this past weekend, so far so good. Thanks So much for your very thought out lessons that are making it easy for me to get back in the game. :)
I'm in the process of buying my first bass. I grew up in a musical family but because I was a girl, I wasn't allowed to take drum lessons (which was my first calling). At 35, I'm finally gonna get on the music train. Rush is my biggest influence, and I'm hoping I can play a few songs by the time I'm 40. 😂
So what model you bought? Is it a good one. I'm also planning to buy one.
So I ended up borrowing my brother's original bass from when he was young. It's a Fender four string...not sure what model exactly. I'll eventually purchase one, but we'll see how this goes.
I'm so happy for you! Wishing you all the best.
Good luck!
I feel you, with not being allowed to because of being a 'girl'. Aww wishing you all the best!
I’ve had a bass for years but have never gotten around to actually learning how to play it. I’m adding this to my favorites so I can use this to learn when I do get to it someday

Yo you're AWESOME. you explain things for an absolute beginner like teaching us WHAT things are like frets or why certain strings or frets make certain noises.
