One thing you missed in the intro- the cast skating on concrete- they are always on thin ice.
I NEVER GOT THAT
BUT NOW I DO
My mind is kinda blown right now-
Daniel Erwin you ain't the only blown
Jake Pizorno you deserve a subscriber for that
I believe that the skating was influenced by the director’s work on Yuri on Ice, but the symbolism was about breaking free from an oppressive force. (To be honest, I like your explanation better)
@@flareb99 I also have another channel where I talk more about things called Fully Suited Jacks.
*hits blunt*
Holy shit I just noticed something with Akechi’s weapons
Not only is he using toys to symbolize that he’s not using his true powers, his choice of those weapons is a ray gun and a lightsaber
What other popular franchise we know that uses these weapons?
Star Wars
And one of the most popular characters in Star Wars is Luke Skywalker (since he’s the main character of the first 3 movies, I believe)
And what is a very known scene that features Luke?
Darth Vader telling him that he’s his father
So I believe Akechi’s weapons also resemble how his father is his enemy, just like Luke
Luke's lightsaber is also Anakin's lightsaber, and I don't think I need to explain the connection there.
except this time instead of the father revealing their connection, the son would've done it.
another interesting thing, Canonically, in the anime and Manga, Joker's preferred weapon is his pistol, and that is matched by Satanael's weapon being a Gun
Derek Parker dunno if this would have anything to do with it, but Johnny Cash did write a song about the pistol being the devil's right hand, and also I frequently joked about joker being the devil because his confidants make contracts with him.
TheAsylumCat and the fact that (SPOILERS)
His ultimate Persona IS Satanael, essentially Satan and Lucifer combined
Derek Parker i think you do fuse those teo in the compendium
I have enjoyed these videos so far. Here's another subtle thing that you might appreciate: the very first tutorial battle in the Casino.
Think back, and remember Joker's one-on-one fight with "Sacrificial Pyrekeeper." The Pyrekeeper is revealed later in the game to be Moloch. Moloch is associated with child sacrifice. Consider the themes of the game and all the bosses of the palaces. Every one of them is using, abusing, and sacrificing the lives, safety, or innocence, of children. Even the Casino boss, who cares more about winning than about the consequences of the outcome of the impending raid on possibly innocent teen-agers.
Moloch as the tutorial battle is a symbolic representation of what the Phantom Thieves have fought against since their first heist: adults abusing their power and station to sacrifice children, to serve their distorted desires. This only becomes clear in retrospect.
Tony Patino HALLELUJAH SOMEONE ADDED IT. I forgot to add it in the last video, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks about this.
Tony Patino DEEP AF
What a intersting thing
Hold on. I think I know there is a bible verse about sacrificing Issac from jacob.
I did not know that! Thank You! :D!
Akechi's phantom thief costume is mostly white, contradicting his true costume which is black.
Another parallel to the costumes are how the crow costume has red,and the black mask suit has blue on it.
Red and blue have been believed and paired up as opposites.
Meanwhile the opposite of red is green and the opposite of blue is orange.
The crow costume is similar to prince attire.
The black mask suit is,as stated, similar to a prisoner uniform.
Yknow, Morgana is kinda like Joker's Puss in Boots. A cat/fairy in desguise that uses trickery to bring his master fortune.
Cait Sith
I always thought Akechi's mask was either a reference to either Pinocchio in how with having a long nose showing that he is lying, or a reference to Igor being an allusion of how Igor is lying to us through Akechi
I thought Akechi's attire when he summons Loki looks like a jester's costume, which relates to tricksters, and his persona, Loki.
@Zondar T. G. I feel the prisoner's garb outlook on it is more appropriate, as he is a prisoner to his hatred of Shido and his obsession in bringing him down. Even when he's offered forgiveness by the Phantom Thieves, he refuses, paralelling many career criminals; he doesn't see any other path than the one in front of him, and it ends up getting him killed.
In Lovers Arcana(Ann's arcana) it is used to represent the crossroads between 2 paths in life according to the Persona wiki, which parallels Ann's Ultimate Persona, Hecate the Goddess of Crossroads.
Also, the Lovers Arcana eventually represent the symbols of love and romance, opposite of lust. While Ann's life in her encounters with others around her always characterize her just by appearance, not who she really is. Which actually frustrates Ann which prevents her from making any meaningful relationships before she forms a friendships with Akira (P5 Protagonist's Manga name) and Ryuji.
Good job.
PokeAnime Lovers Great Job.
Spoiler-y bit here
Akechi's weapons could very well be something be a carry-over from Okumura's Palace.
Think about it, a laser pistol and a beam sword, sci-fi weapons. Just as well, they are described as toys, and what was the treasure of Okumura's Palace?
So, I think Akechi stole the weapons from Okumura's palace and uses them in Sae's Palace, perhaps even in a smug way of secretly mocking the phantom thieves for not connecting the dots. His persona Robin Hood could also carry this theme as well, as he looks like most super hero action figures do, especially with his shiny texture and multi-colored design.
I'd love to hear what you guys think of this theory.
MissingDigit_UnOfficial I actually love this. It's another great outlook on why Goro's choice of weapons are like this. I'd say it were canon if not for the conversation they had before starting their inflitration of Sae's Palace, whereas Morgana says that his 'Phantom Thieves' outfit is how he views actual thieves, to which Goro answers back that this isn't what he views thieves as, but merely 'heroes of justice'.
That's fair enough, though I wonder if both can be true. For context, I noticed this detail when I noticed that dark akechi opts to use a silenced pistol instead. It isn't simply that they are toys that strikes me, but that they are beam weapon. Even when alluding to the sentai, they still used a lot of non-glowy bits. But, I could also be looking to far into this.
I'd just really like it if this were in fact the case, as it speaks more and more to the risks Akechi is willing to take, transferring something from one palace to another not knowing what the possible consequences of that might be.
Orga777 this can be brought even deeper by saying that Aketchi is a child pretending to be an adult, weird little comparison is that in p4 Naoto's dungeon is based around personas equivalent of power rangers, and Aketchis version of robin hood reminds me of similar characters.
I doubt that this is intentional, but the fact that Akechi wields a blue lightsbaer connects him to Darth Vader and Shido to Darth Sidious a little TOO well.
Also, all the other Phantom Thieves use weapons based on real-life ones (pistols, revolvers, whips, knives), yet Akechi uses fictional weapons like lightsabers and laser pistols, signifying his mastery over the Metaverse. It's another red flag for Akechi being more than he lets on.
CrAzY how much research and thoughtfulness went into creating this game.
Considering it was announced back in 2013, Imma say at least FIVE FREAKING YEARS worth of research.
Sight Beyond Sight this rabbit hole goes deep.
Some percentage of the game has already finished by the time Persona 4 hit the market. Atlus further delay it due to many incident and the management themselves even worry it is not strong enough to compete in the market against Square Enix and many other larger companies so the effort were multiplied by a great magnitude.
Does that mean they already have the framework finished for 6?
Considering the amazing response the gaming community had for this title, they would be stupid not to be following up on it.
I don't think they even finish conceptualising P6 yet.
Unlike other bigger and richer companies with ten of million of sales and global scale fanbase, Atlus is relatively small and they play safe with localisation. P5 is an almost-a-decade long project which Atlus can't even perfect it and there are aspects of the game that were not finished and ended up cut from the release version because the time of development has stretched for too long. For example the rumour about there is another member of the P5 core team.
I'm pretty sure many before me have realized, but I just did, in the story, the phantom thieves steals hearts, and there was a class which talked about the minor arcanas, the spade(sword), heart(cup), clubs and diamonds(coin), and that the origin of the cup was the holy grail, and in the last mission, in the depths of mementos, the treasure that was there was the holy grail, a representation of all hearts
L Yping not to mention the classroom trivia brings up suspiciously relevant facts about current events.
Wow, that is odd to think about. But honestly that type of symbolism is what Atlus does best with this series
I would like to point out something I find interesting about Satanael being the ultimate persona of the protagonist. As anyone who has played a mainline SMT game can tell you, Satan's interpretation that Atlus picked up for their games is that of the Judge of humanity (hence the fact he usually is Judgement Arcana) and also a powerful and loyal servant of God. I found odd when with the whole theme of rebellion the game was going for, Satanael appears the ultimate force of opposition, facing down the one that is called God (or better said, the Demiurge).
However, after some thought I realized it really made a lot of sense. Joker's final persona is not Satan after all, but Satanel, the second son of God and the rebellious angel. This tells me that Atlus finally made up their mind and decided to show us the interpretation they had on Satan. Satanael, along with Helel, faced down God for his haughtiness and fell from grace, but while Helel, now Lucifer, would stay in firm opposition to whatever God would do (which is a huge plot point of all SMT games), Satanael returned to God's service in order to create a just world, and (SMT 2 spoilers) is willing to face down God again if he is forced to do something he finds unjust.
This makes me think about how Joker, trying to stop evils from society "fell from grace" and became a criminal, but didn't stayed that way and reintegrated to it eventually. He didn't stay as a force of opposition because he had faith in that society could truly change, same as Satan had faith in that God's path could be corrected.
Andres Arancio never knew that, for a while i thought Satan, Lucifer, belezzebub ( not gonna bother spelling that) were all various interpretations of the devil. ( wich is why the " theres only one of me" joke from the Lucifer tv series was funny to me.
Interesting so atlus interprets them as different beings.
The arcana being justice also falls more in line with the Jewish interpretation of Lucifer as being loyal to god, but seeing the humans as unworthy and trying to convince god of such at every turn acting as humanities prosecutor
Because the are. Lucifer and Satanael are both Arcangels who opposed god. Satan is the judge and tester of humanity, tempting and misleading them. Oh, and seeing as Beelzebub was mentioned, that guy is a Demon from start to finish. Just like Mefistopheles, Barbatos or Flauros.
Truly interesting, thanks all for the informations, I think I will start to study more about this game and the SMT series
I have a theory that Akechi's persona, Robin Hood, never existed, it was just Loki in disguise. Akechi just wanted to blend in with the Phantom Thieves, and Robin Hood fits the trope perfectly. Too perfectly, if you ask me
Loki IS a shapeshifter so this would fit
@@VXMasterson but if that’s true than that means Akechi’s Persona has the ability to change it’s skill tree.
@@KaiserVarius I mean obviously the theory isn’t true, Akechi is clearly wielding 2 Personas, the theory just has some lore to support it
@@VXMasterson Ah, okay.
Something that bears mentioning is Japanese things use full-face masks. While it is true that all the Thieves have a halfmask, this also holds true for Goro. Thus, it appears to me that Akechi's mask is actually a Pantalone mask, and this also ties in to the bright colours and masks used in Commedia Dell'Arte.
Pantalone, in Commedia Dell'Arte, is the second-highest class character. This represents how Akechi will always be second fiddle to Shido. Pantalone is also a man of considerable fame and fortune, just as Akechi is. Back in the day, Pantalone's mask was designed to give the effect of an (exaggerated) beak shaped nose, symbolising his belief that he is at the top of the _pecking_ order. In addition, the character traits of Pantalone include:
Being intelligent but somehow outwitted by others he perceives to be below him ("HOW CAN A WORTHLESS PIECE OF TRASH BE MORE SPECIAL THAN ME?!")
Never forgets a deal made ("You won't say no... Will you...?")
Never forgets or forgives the smallest thing; petty ("You're just... Pieces of shit who lick each other's wounds!" and other childish lines)
Finally, Pantalone was designed to "have enough money to be able to meddle in the affairs of others", and Pantalone is often the catalyst for the plot of most Commedias. Since Akechi definitely meddles, money or not, and is also the one responsible for the mental shutdown cases, he definitely fits the Pantalone archetype, as does his mask. His clothes do too: his princely attire could reflect how he sees himself as richer, brighter and better than the other Thieves, which is a typically Pantalone thing to think.
Amazing video man!
Another thing to add for Persona 5 is the archetypal role of "the trickster". It was mentioned to you in the beginning of the game and it is the moniker addressed to you by Igor. As definition, ''Tricksters violate principles of social and natural order, playfully disrupting normal life and then re-establishing it on a new basis. Often, the bending/breaking of rules takes the form of tricks or thievery. '' This perfectly reflect to the protagonist and the Phantom Thieves. Of course another obvious reference is the personas of the group have which, if not all, are tricksters.
Another thing to point out as to why Joker's outfit is like that because trickster creatures often described as red or black in color. It mostly part of earlier superstitions that black and red is associated to evil powers.
One last thing, as to why the team dev choose Morgana to be a cat because if they're aiming for the trickster theme why not choose other creatures to represent like a monkey or a rabbit. Now this is entirely speculative but I guess Morgana could also relate to European trickster creatures. I mean there's the obvious Cheshire Cat and Cat Sith but I recently stumbled another creature which is the Lutin. They're the French variation of the Puca, which are small people, covered in black fur, and could shape shift. Lutins are prone to mischief and prank-like fun but they're unique because they like to take form of a black cat something that most people recognize to have some superstitious power. They often seen as companions of witches and sorcerers and are capable of cursing anyone crossing their path.
Now that you mentioned it... Wasn't Ann's ultimate persona Hecate? The Goddess of Witchcraft?
Other ties between tricksters and cats: the Nekomata and Bakeneko of Japanese myth
Here's my thought that everyone agrees on
Akechi was originaly a wildcard with his original persona being Robin Hood, but instead of focusing on his rehab, he instead had his own corrupted goals which made Igor vanish him from the position of wildcard
Then Akechi, who thought he could not acheve his goal, was confronted by Yaldabouth and striked a deal with him
Now Alechi, with the ability to go back to the metaverse again, also receved a second persona, Loki, formed by Yaldabouth to manifest Akechi's actual desires
I have an idea about Morgana's appearance. He seems to be wearing a utility belt, suggesting he is the tools expert. This ties in to how he teaches the phantom thieves how to use different tools, such as their cognitive guns and even their personas effectively. Also, he is the one that taught Joker how to make infiltration tools.
I would love to see you cover the symbolism in each of the confident. There are some really cool symbolism found in each of them, like Mishima, Iwai, and Hufumi. I really enjoyed each of the story arcs I find them really interesting, and would love to see yours and everyone else's takes on it.
ADruid25 ooooh, that sounds interesting, where can i read those theories?, I'm specially interested in knowing the symbolism behind iwai's story
I haven't seen any, but I've drawn a lot of symbolism from the runs of the game I've watched.
Some spoilers ahead just an fyi
Iwai story is very much tied with the idea behind the Hanged Man. The Hanged Man represents being trapped between two opposing forces, sacrifice to continue forward. There is an undertone of self sacrifice to achieve something greater (there is more to the card then just that, but those concepts are important for Iwai.)
Iwai is a form member of the Yakuza, who left when he adopted a young baby boy who was left to his clan. He left in order to give his son the role model that Iwai never had growing up. But a old "friend" from his Yakuza days, has been trying to bring him back in.
Even the tattoo on his neck is symbolic. He has a gecko, which some species can detach limbs (like a tail) to escape predators. In a way, Iwai cut a part of his life out, so that he can be a good influence on his son.
I am sure others could add to how to this, it just a real brief overview of what I've noticed so far.
Adding to this, remember a lizard can grow his tail back. Iwai wanted a family that he belonged in. Since in the real life yakuza severing ties is often a permanent thing. Iwai thought he gave up something extremely important to him which was like cutting a pinky for a dishonorable act. But in the end, he gains a new family that he is truly proud of and that is from his son and even gets to go back to some of his old ways by having Joker as his criminal contact.
also something about ryuji: he was the only character who rebeled before he became a phantom thief, but then lost what he stood for. until he was called back to adventure,, which could be a refrence to the monkey king
This kind of video is just delightful. So many clever comments by the viewers as well. I hope this becomes a series and you keep on analyzing the symbolism of other games. Cheers.
Another connection Akechi has with Loki is their fathers.
Shido doesn't really do much to suit Akechi's needs.
Laufy abandoned Loki, leaving the young demigod to be raised by Odin.
BOTH Shido and Laufy are in a high place of power.
I'm pretty sure this is only in the Marvel version. Loki isn't Odin's son in actual Norse Myth, they're called blood brothers
3:57 Not only that, but by the end the end of the game, you can fuse and summon Gabriel, Michael, Uriel, Raphael, Metatron, and Sandalphon, the strongest angels in the Bible to aid you in stopping Yaldabaoth.
Get ready for supplementary 2
The first scene of the navi app and train station going high speed reminds me of devil survivor 2
.....
Well that's all I have
Mavo San it could thematically signify the start of the players journey since trains are all about travelling symbolically, and the nav app is what kicks off the adventure.
Never thought about the bum leg and peg leg connection to Ryuji
I think you missed the fact that Arsene is looking like a demon that would trick you into something, that ties into everyone calling Joker Trickster.
You know.. Now that I think of it. I think Haru's ultimate persona could have been Thor. In the Poetic Edda, one of the stories had Thor to dress up as Freyja to get his hammer back from a giant. This could be linked to Haru for she has to confront her fiancé to get her freedom back. Also, the design would have been amazing. But, that's just me.
Malachi Danior that could have potentially conflicted with Aketchi's true persona of Loki.
Excuse me but wouldn't that contrast work well with aketchi being the murderer of Haru's father
@@jaakflod2498 Can't argue there, mate.
It would conflict with the whole "fallen from heaven" theme that the other characters have.
@@demi-femme4821 well in some smt games Thor is often associated with chaos so you could tie it in like that
You sir check your comments and take them into consideration and for that you just earned another subscriber
I notice something about Yaldabaoth's personality. If we analyze it closely, we can see that he himself represents the Deadly Sins.
He lusts after absolute control over humanity (Lust). He sees himself as God that can rule humanity, even though he was created by the collective unconscious, the same power that made him what he is now (Pride and Vanity). He devours the "will of the people" to regain his health (Gluttony). He is angered when someone opposes him the slightest (Wrath) and when Joker uses the wish of humans to create Satanael, he tells him that he is "stealing the wish of the masses", he considers the will of humanity as his own possession (Greed).
However, I haven't found anything about Envy and Sloth. I'm theorizing that he is actually jealous of humanity's ability to change their own fate, as Yaldabaoth is originally just a Treasure and thus, unable to really do anything. As for Sloth, well, it's kinda tricky. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Sloth represents one's refusal to change their life. So, maybe Yaldabaoth having giving up on humanity and refusal to accept its potential, could represent this Sin.
Nice video, please do more analysis, it's always fun to watch :)
He envys Igor, who has such a deep bond with huanity. And his sloth is that he uses Igors preestablished realm of the Velvet room to trick us into helping him.
Mmmmmh, interesting idea.
After all it/he is made of sins or orrible will so it's normal that it/he have all of them. It is the "archetipo" of sin.
I don't know how to translait "archetipo" , it is Italian if you need
I did enjoy this video! Thank You for asking me at the beginning there! :D!
Thanks for all the awesome Persona insight videos. :-)
I would really like more videos like these one, you put so much research into them.
This one added even more stuff I actually didn't consider. Nice job! Thanks for sharing this one!
Akechi's made in his evil form is really similar in design to the berserker armor from the manga Berserk, which gives its wearer increased strength and resilience but makes it impossible to differentiate between friend and foe and make them just attack anything that moves basically. Which sounds similar to how the psychotic breakdowns are described.
I believe all the Protagonists of the mainline Persona games use either
personas, ultimate personas or both that descended into the underworld, not just Akira Kurusu,
with the only exception being the prototagonists of Persona 2.
The
protagonist of "Megami Ibunroku Persona" has Amen Ra as his ultimate
persona. In Ra's main myth, every night he descends into the underworld
on his sun boat to fight and defeat Apep the evil serpent before rising
back into the sky (this is how the ancient Egyptians thought the
day/night cycle worked).
The three personas of the P3 protagonist
are all related to the underworld, Orpheus descended into the
underworld to get back his wife, the Messiah has close ties to Jesus,
who descended into the Hell and rose back out again, taking souls
with him and Thanatos is litterally the god of death so I don't think I
have to explain his relation to the underworld.
Yu Narukami (P4)
is easy, his normal and ultimate personas are both Izanagi, who
descended into the land of the dead to get back his dead wife Izanami, a
bit like Orpheus only Izanagi was horrified by the corpse-like
appearance of his wife and pulled a real jerk move by just leaving her
there.
And of course there's Akira Kurusu (P5) who has Satanael
as his ultimate persona. Fun fact, the word "satan" (lower case) is a
hebrew word used multiple times in the bible which simply means "an
adversary or obstructing person". In english versions of the book of
Job, it's translated as Satan (Uppercase, a name), as in the Devil even
though the idea of an ultimate enemy against God who was cast from
Heaven to Hell (The modern idea of the Devil) only became a thing in the
Intertestimental period of the Bible (the bit between the Old Testiment
and the new which contained rather a lot of literature which never made
it into the Bible's cannon).
"But why is it Satanael instead of
Satan?" Well, Satanael was the name of a rebel angel in the second book
of Enoch. That was one of the first appearances of the more recent idea
of Satan.
And then John Milton came along and made him sexy.
The protagonist's code name "Joker" is a reference to the comic book villain known as The Joker.
Both are anarchists in a way.
Both have multiple love lives.
In the dark Knight and the killing joke, joker claims to have had a wife before he became the joker.
In various media, the joker has a sidekick/girlfriend known as Harley Quinn.
The protagonist can date multiple women ranging from Ann to some lady in a maid outfit.
The only differences are that our joker is a hero and the DC character is a villain, along with the attire.
Protagonist's attire is a gray shirt with a black coat and red gloves.
DC Joker's attire is an orange shirt with a purple coat.
Along with an occasional purple hat and various gloves depending on the book/film/show/game.
Sometimes NO gloves at all.
One thing I don't see people talking about is how all of the villains shadow's in Persona 5 are inspired by Rebel's who became corrupted themselves.
Kamoshida comment's on everyone having expectation's for him, the same as a king or any other person of power would have. I don't know which figure he directly takes from but the connection's there.
I am not sure on Madarame or Kaneishiro.
But okumura is definitely Darth Vader, as his increase in power and and getting involved with Shido and politic's distorted how he saw right and wrong and started mistreating his employee's. Similar to how Anikin was corrupted by power after Papletine, a politician, told him about greater sith powers and went on a massacre on his fellow Jedi. Not only that, but both character's were ultimately bested by their own child.
Shido himself take's from two character's. His initial appearance is of course Char Aznable from Mobile Suit Gundam, whom during his covert political coup', became prideful of his nature as a Newtype and Newtype's in general to the point of believing anybody that wasn't a Newtype, I.E. living on earth, were below them.
The second form appear's to be Senator Armstrong from Metal Gear Rising of all things. Arm strong had a "might make's right".
I believe the reason why they referenced Armstrong was to contrast with Shido's Zeon general outfit. Char was arrogant and didn't see his own prejudice for what it actually was, masquerading it as something it wasn't. Armstrong did not hide the fact that what he was doing was awful, just that it was necessary.
Shido casting his general outfit was him showing his elitist nature, discarding the "ignorant masses" and attacking the phantom thieves with his own overwhelming influence.
There is a key difference between Shido and Armstrong. Armstrong's social Darwinist philosophy was done in the interest of ending corrupt government and pointless war. Shido IS corrupt government. Shido would have all bow before him, while Armstrong would not. In fact, Armstrong would probably go out of his way to kill Shido.
I kinda thought of something about Akechi and his 2 Personas: Robin Hood and Loki, as well as his costumes. They both deal with duality, especially how it influences his life, as well as having a two-faced personality. His first costume and Robin Hood are his light side, and how it not only represents the childhood he deserved, but how a part of him actually wants to be friends with the Phantom Thieves and be close to them when he joins the team, and that humanity is actually worth saving. Akechi's true costume and Loki is a manifestation of his dark side, the side that believes that humanity doesn't deserve to be saved, and all the negative thoughts about himself and everyone else that go through Goro's mind, and that he can't trust anyone in the end. All in all, Akechi had a lot of chances to become a better person if he let the Phantom Thieves save him from himself, but his outlook on life after Shido abandoned him and his mother died, ultimately led him to his own demise.
Also Akechi's real metaverse costume could be somewhat tied to Griffith/Femto from Berserk.
Both proper, prettyboys who have a seemingly noble goal they want to achieve, but when given power it ultimately consumes and destroys them.
The helmet/mask is very reminiscent of gutts beserker armour though
in some cases i suppose, but imo it resembles Femto's face more. Which matches better when you're trying to tie Akechi and Griffith together.
Reading beserk roight now :) and eh, dosn't really match that well.
what doesnt? my idea or yours? because i feel like mine is pretty spot on
Comparing Akechi with Griffith works on a personality, story and thematical level I give you that, spot on man. But his "true" costume? Not a bit. The colour dosn't match, the helmet is way to elongated and wolfish (that's why it's more remenicient of Gutt's Berserker helmet) and the whole costume has more of an asylum inmate vibe than that of a demon lord. Griffith wears something that looks like biological armour and his helmet is shaped like some mutated hawk-chicken.
Calling card for goro akechie:
After your trying to desposing joker we found out that you have never took both shida and our sides seriously for your personal gain as you committed all those shut downs you have committed a great sin of wrath thus we shall steal your heart from your twisted desires
Great video!
Truly no wasted efforts here!
One thing I’ve noticed is that satanael is sometimes referred as the second son of god. And that’s a parallel with akechi as joker is the second chosen trickster for the game yaldabaoth
more of this ayyyy
I’d say that Makoto using a revolver also has ties to her dad a cop, who typically used to carry them
You could also draw parallels between Psychotic Akechi and Guts' berserker armor .maybe akechi somewhat identifies with Guts
RytimusPrimeReviews I'm sure I wasn't the only one who noticed, and I'm pretty sure that a certain UA-camr I know who has a hate boner for those references in games like, i dunno, dark souls? he'd be foaming at the mouth.
RytimusPrimeReviews he looks more Mike Griffith
it's sometimes hard to spot. but when a battle is over and akechi is on the background (not posing in front) he turns around and laughs slightly maniatically
I hope you come back with an analysis of the characters in P5R and P5S!
Please make more of these if you have ideas
Are you planning on making a video about the third personas in royal along with Kasumi/Sumire, if so that would be cool
Joker was caught red handed.
What about the symbolism in joker's mask?
Is it possible to do one of these on the boss Shadows?
Yusuke only seems to buy traditional Japanese food, which may be a reference to Goemon from Lupin III, since the latter refuses to eat Western food and though he'll toast with champagne he'll only drink sake. Yusuke also uses his katana in an iai style.
I mentioned that I believe Haru's costume and story to be inspired by Princess Sapphire from Ribbon Knight, adding to what I mentioned about that, Haru's arranged fiancé bears a strong resemblance to Plastic, Duke Duralumin's son, albeit the earlier is older.
Lupin is noted for having friends who will come to his aid loyally, which can be seen in the phantom thieves collectively.
Finally, while Lupin does get out of jail after being caught, Joker's escape from the police station is much closer to the beginning of The Mask of Zorro than Lupin.
But also they're free to choose of what they want but they have think wisely while they are thin ice.
Can you do a video on the extra symbolism in royal?
Personally I thought Akechi's mask was a reference to the birds of prey mask used during the Black Death. The idea was that the mask would ward away evil so they didn't get sick. However I'm not sure how that would go with Akechi and his story. Some one please tell me.
Could be ironic, or another element of him tricking the phantom thieves. He is "warding himself from evil" because he is such a nice and pure boy, when in fact the evil _comes from him_.
Zelda4ever72 Here's a thought, you know how he tends to sit alone whenever you enter safe rooms in one corner? It could elude to how Goro is supposed to keep the Phantom Thieves (and maybe to some extent other people) at bay, since those during the Plague are supposed to keep you away from evil, right? Maybe, in this case, the 'evil' is the Phantom Thieves and the mask is supposed to keep Goro safe from whatever affliction/influence they can pass on to him in order for his plan to not fail.
Zelda4ever72 his mask actually did remind me of Edgar Allan Poe's red death first time around.
Also a lot of plague doctors were charlatans using peoples paranoia in order to make money.
Crow mask reminded me of Pinocchio. Nose long for telling lies! Even you're just a puppet line when he was talking to his cognitive self in Shido Palace.
Will you do a follow up for sumire, sophia and zenkichi?
Can you do a symbolism video on Persona 3 and 4
Well, jokers kind of looks like his final personas face.
I think that Crow's design and mask are also simalar to the Commedia Dell'arte character Il Capitano who is a flamboyant and overconfident person much like Crow and is known for his long mask That resembles long nose i.e a liar.
I'm gonna read all of that comments lol
Actually akechi's disguise is similar to a knight using a gambeson with steel helm and gloves, and perhaps some sabatons
Why aren't you going off the artbook it has actual explanations for the outfits
Each palace represents a deadly sin, kamoshida is lust, maderame is envy, kaneshiro is greed, futaba is sloth, okumura is gluttony, nijima is wrath and shido shows pride. If you want, I can elaborate for anyone who doesn’t understand or doesn’t see a connection.
I thinki also the fact in japanese kanji of dove and crow. I mean there is a question in class about that,
I have something on joker, the gloves are red, maybe as in being caught red handed because of his criminal record
3rd tier personas if they ever get any Ann:Trivia Ryuji:Sun wukong Yusuke:Susanoo-no-kami? If that's correctMakoto:Sophia????Futaba:???Haru:???Morgana:???Akechi:if Robin Hood got a new form probz based on some hero who's pride was there undoing like Hercules or Theseus I wrote this while I was very tired leave your ideas in a reply or whatever
Hey, remember me? The guy that wrote about a fan made phantom thief? So, here's the second part, his idea of rebellion is a soldier defending his ideals even if he have to disobbey orders, that's why his costume is based on a military one. I changed his initial persona to Persephone, that better fits the two sides stuff, he have feelings for Makoto and Haru, who, for him, are society victims.
@@porygon-z8270 shut up, Just shut up
I don't recall Morgana being childish. I was told his gun was a pun since a slingshot is a CATapult
there's no mistery why this game took so long... every aspect is drenched in symbolism, literature and mithology, plus, everythibg reflects the themes of the game, even the boring classes are indicative of the plot
Random question but, what's your nationality? Cause I think I already know
how about persona 4 ?
And Morgana now has a persona named diego
I feel like their awakened persona has something to do with their personality and their second persona has to deal with their life overall.
I have a suggestion for you, may be too late, but fuck it I'll say it anyway. I noticed that the palace rulers are named after certain demons, angels, and mythological creatures. I.e. Asmodeus is the demon of lust and other things and it's the form Shadow Kamoshida takes on. I'm interested in finding out what the other palace rulers' demons are base on and how they represent the them.
Like how is Leviathan (a water monster) relate to Envy or Sae Niijima?
In some texts they said that Leviathan was the ruler of the ring of envy, the place were people who felt that sin go
For Persona 5 why don't you do the symbolism in both the palaces and their bosses as well as basically what the shadow types could represent in the palaces as well as the mid bosses.
What about the rat in a heist. There's always a rat in these heists, aka Akechi
Another strange symbolism is the fact that there are 3 different fucking Satan's!
No, Akechi isn't Naoto, he looks the way he does because he thinks/wants everyone to see him as a hero and a prince. And he has toys because, as guy said, doesn't take them seriously
Who ships Joker and Ann, I know I don't. But alas, there was an entire 6 or 7 (maybe greater by now) paged forum about how it was the greatest ship. I don't ship people, but I did type ironic and sarcastic comments, like Haru being best girl. Arsène is best grill and was there when no one else was.
flapjackxl I find myself rather fond of Futaba because i find her far too relatable, minus the dead mom angst of course....
flapjackxl Its pretty much canon.
I mean atlus tries it hardest to push you in ann's direction. Just like in persona 4 dancing all night with rise.
well in Persona 4 Golden they push marie pretty hard
Nah, I'd say they were shipping Yu and Adachi.
The game's theme color is red, which is fitting because most of the time, change can only be brought through the shedding of blood by both oppressor and oppressed. The Phantom Thieves never changed things through peaceful protest. They did it with hot-headed and stubborn fighting, hence the color red.
One can take the theme color a step further and connect it to communism, which is also symbolized by the color red.
Communism is arguably the ultimate rebellion as it is opposes the system that forms the basis of human interaction: Capitalism.
P5 and communism go well together in their messages of rebellion and want of GOOD change for all.
I think you're putting too much thought into the gun section.
afoninja121
Nah it fits the characters personality, so I think it's fine
Tim Does it match their personality, or does it match their design motif? Because I don't see how haru wielding an axe and a grenade launcher with a persona that has gattling guns in her skirt matches het personality. It just fits the character design motif that they're going for. About the only ones who's guns match their personality are joker's and Ryuji's... And joker has no personality so that tells you something.
@@afoninja121 please watch the video before this one about his theory on Haru's design and choice of weapon (axe). It explains everything.
