    A small stroke of genius you missed is that, in regard to the velvet Room, unlike the previous games you can actually move around in the p5 velvet room. Its confined to the cell which reinforces the rebellion theme when you finally break out.

    I love that all the Persona games have something you can relate to examples being:
    -P1: The confusion of disillusion and how one can convince themselves of something that is not truly the case.
    -P2IS: The stress and responsibility of choices and how rumors can impact your perception or reputation.
    -P2EP: The consequences of ones actions or choices and how it affects your life and relationships.
    -P3: The acceptance of mortality or circumstances and how it is impossible to change that only to live with it.
    -P4: The discovery of who you really are or determining the truth and how you can decide that for yourself.
    -P5: The realization of the corrupt nature of society or the freedom to do something about it and how you can change not only your own life but the lives of others whether they understand or not.
    (P5's message is the one I personally vibe with the most)

    The dominance of red in P5 shows just how much we as individuals and as a society respond to it. Red is a color with an equal number of positive and negative meanings. Power, desire, energy, to name a few, all of which can be good or evil depending on how it's used.
    But I would like to point out how red is often the color of heroes, especially the leader. In pop culture, we see the leader of hero teams usually wearing the color red. And even on the corresponding villain team is likely to have a lot of red. Red is a color that grabs our attention and people can use this to an advantage.

      That would make a lot of sense, considering a saddening thought I had about her.
      Specifically, if she did almost no physical exercise in all those years when she locked herself away, wouldn’t she logically be fat? Yet she’s thin as beanpole. But then you consider...what if she just...didn’t eat much? One of the symptoms of depression is a loss of appetite, after all...

    This might be me overthinking things, but I think there's a hidden parallel between the heroes and villains in this game. You know how each of the palace bosses represents one of the seven deadly sins? Well, what if (and I know some of these connections are tenuous, but I'll try my best to explain them) each of the human Phantom Thieves secretly represents one of the seven heavenly virtues?
    Hope = Ann (She joins the Phantom Thieves because she wants to give people courage, and courage is a virtue in and of itself, but I think what she really provides is hope, as she shows that people can move on from something as traumatic as being sexually preyed on by a teacher. This is especially clear as she watches her friend Shiho recovering from her suicide attempt, and from this she finds the hope that things will get better, which she then passes on to the people the team helps.)
    Faith = Futaba (After her mother's death, she was convinced that her mother hated her, and the shady people's lies convinced her that no one could ever love her and she didn't deserve to live. She lost faith in her mother, herself, and I think also the goodness of humanity and the meaning and value of life, retreating to her room and living vicariously through the Internet. But with help from the Phantom Thieves, she gets that faith back. Also, aside from Joker, she seems to have the strongest connection to gods, what with the whole Egyptian pyramid motif of her palace.)
    Charity = Haru (Being from a wealthy family, she is in the best position to be generous, but even disregarding that, she is kind to everyone she meets and is always looking for ways to help others, from her teammates to the employees of her father's company, all the way down to her plants. Heck, she took Morgana in as just a stray cat and continued to help him even though it brought her into a new and dangerous world.)
    Prudence = Makoto (Prudence is associated with wisdom, self-discipline, and insight, and she is the most rational person on the team, acting as an advisor in the Metaverse and as a top student in reality. She is also very strategic when it comes to how she acts and composes herself in the face of her everyday adversaries, like the principal and her older sister.)
    Fortitude = Ryuji (Fortitude is associated with courage, endurance, and perseverance; he has had to endure a lot, becoming a scapegoat and being labeled as a delinquent for standing up to an unfair teacher, but he is one of the first characters to awaken to his persona. He decides very early on that he isn't going to let the evil adults of the world walk all over him, and he will stand up to anyone and anything he thinks is wrong despite what they say about him because of it. Also, he is often the first one to rush into danger to protect the others, and whenever someone else suggests giving up, he refuses.)
    Temperance = Yusuke (Temperance is associated with conscience and humility, and he has a very strong sense of what he believes is right and wrong. Sometimes he does think rather highly of himself and his abilities, but as soon as someone points out that he made a mistake or his judgment is off, he is quick to rein himself back in. He lives by very modest means, sometimes even foregoing food for the sake of art. We see from very early on that the last thing he wants is to become the egotistical money-grubber that his mentor was, and he recognizes that his role as an artist is not to show off his own greatness, but to portray and amplify the beauty of his subjects.)
    Justice = Akira/Ren (As the leader of the Phantom Thieves, he is the embodiment of the justice for which they fight. He has been wronged by the world from the very start of the game, and he continues to be wronged by the world as a phantom thief, but this only pushes him to fight harder and give the evildoers of the world what they deserve, which in turn provides the good citizens of the world with the freedom and peace they deserve. I know Akechi is the Justice confidant in the game, but I'm not including him here because his sense of justice is incredibly warped, plus he's never an official Phantom Thief.)
    By the way, I love that Cowboy Bebop reference at the very end of the video.

    If Persona 3 color is blue and it’s theme is death, Persona 4 is yellow with identity, and Persona 5 is red with freedom, then I believe that Persona 6 color would be orange. Orange just like red, it’s vary dynamic but it’s less aggressive, meaning that it would also touch the theme of freedom but in a different way of how Persona 5 did. Orange also represents freshness, youthfulness and entertainment. Which is why I believe that the game most likely would be circus themed. Circuses are places were people come to enjoy and be happy, forgetting their problems for a moment and just enjoying the show. Our group this time would be circus performancers, bringing joy to the people who have forgotten what happiness was because of either the position society puts them or because personal struggles, bringing them freedom true entertainment and happiness. While Persona 5 freedom is achieved by rebelling against oppression, Persona 6 freedom is achieved by reminding people of what happiness was by entertaining them. Either way, it’s just my personal theory.

    I feel like, of all the palaces, I would be most likely to awaken my persona in Mementos.
    If you think about it, Mementos and the internet in general are pretty much the same.
    They're both basically just giant globs of human desire, that are all ruled by one stagnant opinion.
    In many ways, popular opinion is the ruler of Mementos, and I already strongly rebel against unquestioned popular opinions, which is, unfortunately, most of them.
    The depths of Mementos is all about locking yourself up in your own personal maze of mirrors, where you can hear nothing but echoes of your own opinion, that very concept is part of what I rebel against.
    Many people don't realize it, but everyone has strong rebellion within themselves, just waiting to be ignited, some desire to make everyone who thinks themselves more than you pay, to tear down anyone placed above you. Where rebellion really gets it's value is in mixtures, rebellion combined with rage can create an unrelenting force of nature, rebellion plus a strong sense of justice? World changer. Rebellion mixed with intense curiosity makes someone who takes risks to uncover the truth.
    ...I definitely ADD'd off the path...

      I think my persona would be Alice. But, its NOT like 'Alice is overpowerd!' and I think skillsets of persona can change depending on the user. I am good with thinking about things that are not real (like Magic) so I would be a amaizing Magic user that could fit with Every build(healing, Magic attacks, debuffs). My downside? I Cant really take a hit and I would be weak to all types fysical attacks.

    I've always thought the colors of Persona games, or at least 3 and 5, were connected to emotions.
    Persona 3 is blue. The game has a heavy focus on sadness, hopelessness and depression, and the protagonist has to make the ultimate sacrifice at the end for everyone else's wellbeing. It's undoubtedly the darkest of the Persona games, with a downer ending to match.
    Persona 5, however, is red. All about red. Red is normally used to represent anger, and the game is essentially about people who've gotten a lot of shit from life and are sick of being kicked while they're down, and also angry on other people's behalf; people who can't do anything for themselves. Their Persona awakens when they're pissed off and just fucking *done* with being treated like crap by everyone around them. It's a game about revolution and rebellion fuelled by anger and indignation at injustice. The opening song directly references this with the line "feed your anger like fire."
    As for Persona 4, it's definitely the lightest, happiest of all Persona games, and yellow is a color normally associated with joy. It's also associated with the Shadows, whose eyes are yellow - in Persona 4's case, yellow represents both the light and the dark: happiness, and the Shadows.

    Loved the video. I always saw the dichtomy of Law/Order and Chaos/Freedom to be false since they are, by definition, arbitrary and ever-changing. One's rule of law is another's crime. That is why in D&D terms, Neutral Good appeals to me the most since I don't see inherent virtue in following and breaking laws since people have used "order" and "freedom" as means to either oppress or simply ignore. Also, I feel that the sin of Sloth in the context of the game relates to apathy and despair towards the world ,and self involvement, which is showcased when we see the public treat the Phantom Thieves as entertainment, and disinterest in standing up since it is hard.

    • @thejarmanitor1331
      @thejarmanitor1331 6 років тому +8

      That's what i love about the law/chaos concept in Shin Megami Tensei. The game never tells you whether one side is the right and the other's the wrong, both have their problems and appeals. But going into an extreme is always a bad thing.

    • @zeyode
      @zeyode 5 років тому +1

      @@thejarmanitor1331 "Going into an extreme is always a bad thing" - Not sure I agree with that statement, and I' don't think the game even does either. Saying something is "extreme" is a value judgement; Usually one that's defined by the society you live in. Revolutionaries, such as the ones who founded America, are always extremists by the standards of the societies they stem from.

    I know it's not entirely thematic but I still think futaba's palace fits sloth much more than mementos. It's her tomb where she stays and waits to die. There's also sae's casino that as a cool set piece and very heist story doesn't quite fit for me. It does capture the desire to win above all else by any means necessary but how does that tie back to envy? She should have had vanity. Madarame would fit better for envy because he's ultimately envious of the skill of his various students. Then again that could also be pride. I don't think the 7 deadly motif was thought throw enough.

    Something I think you missed is rather meta:
    The main color scheme is red and black, which when placed next to each other, hurts to look at. This could symbolize how the Thieves don’t want people to see them. It also could mean “it hurts to look at the truth.”

    Y'know, looking back on this vid, it got me thinking, "What would Persona 6 be like", and I thought maybe it could be about fear, rather to conquer it. I looked up what color best suits the emotion of fear and black was the result. At first, it seemed difficult to somehow portray that, plotwise, until it dawned on me that each "Palace" can be like a black-and-white manga as the aesthetic and with a horror motif to them. And to take down the Manga Palace, the users have to act through the story and in the end, face the source of the fear and conquer it.

    So all in all it really was like the book The Water Margin, it has misfits having their on sense of justice and they act upon them.

    "Some are just in it for the memes"
    That may have sounded funny, but it's actually serious that you can consider those kinds of people immature, and unable to contribute to society due to how unconcerned they are..

    Question, can anyone tell me what is the lore of them being refereed to as Phantom thieves in p5? ? I mean were they called phantom thieves in other persona games? Or is it just part of the theme of p5?

    • @LordDeathwing17
      @LordDeathwing17 6 років тому +1

      geoo6288 It’s just part of the theme. In P3, they were called SEES (Don’t ask me what it means, I can’t remember),
      And in P4 they just call themselves the Investigation Team. I don’t think the groups of P1 and P2 had specific names.

    • @zeyode
      @zeyode 5 років тому +2

      It's justified in lore, but the real reason is thematic. The lore reason is because they steal treasures from palaces, and do so for moral reasons. The thematic reason is that they're working outside the bounds of society to do what they think is right.

    I don't want to see a green persona tbh. I think he should drop the color theme at this point. I don't know how soejima can rise above persona 5 artistically

    • @zeyode

      I think Persona 2 also used the color red, so I don't think they're limiting it to one color per game

    And it doesn't help that this game has its fair share of pornagraphy, too, of course. I feel like now I could represent the people of Sloth. I feel like if I had a shadow, it would be locked in the cells in the Depths of Mementos.
