The Best Pizza in Naples, Italy: Pizzeria Da Michele vs. Di Matteo

- Who makes the better authentic neapolitan pizza? We were in Naples this summer and wanted to see what all the hype is about and tried two of the pizzas some claim to be "the best in the world" - Pizzeria da Michele and Pizzeria di Matteo.
We show you some footage of hectic but charming Naples, how the pizza is made, and give you our take on which is better!
Authentic Neapolitan pizza is softer and wetter than most other kinds, is made only with San Marzano tomatoes which grow in the Campania region. These tomatoes have a unique flavour because they are grown on volcanic soil. And you only get two options - Pizza Margherita or Pizza Marinara.
What's up with the fold that these pizzas have? Haha!
You guys should definitely check out Naples and eat some delicious and incredibly cheap pizza!

I'm not a pizza fan but I've been to L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele in Napoli last month and I ate two whole large pizza by myself alone. The Margherita and Marinara were amazing especially the Margherita.

Michele is the only 1 together with Sorbillo that is able to make a pizza "to drink" and with this I mean a pizza where all the ingredients are so fresh and juicy that looks like u are drinking a pizza! Nothing like Michele and Sorbillo! They are the best!

I've been both and tried Da Michele twice. I prefer Di Matteo, especially their fried dough without anything inside. I'm not saying that they're the best but really satisfying!!!

You're not kidding. Pizza in other parts of Italy can be mediocre. I've been to Da Michele around lunch time and the lines aren't bad at that time. Frank Pepe's comes close and they import their tomatoes from the region around Napoli, and that's key as the volcanic soil DOES make a difference as the flavor of the tomatoes is more intense.

My girlfriend and I went to Naples 2 months ago for our summer holiday and we can highly recommend a tour to the vulcano there. Its called "Vesuvius" (you've probably already seen it and also heard of it) but ya, the view from up there was really stunning. Hope you have a nice and save stay :)

I had a Margherita there earlier this week and it’s as good apart from very under seasoned , I don’t think they put any pecorino or salt on? Anyway I had one at Sorbillo and it was perfect.

It's " A città e Pulecenella " from the movie " Scugnizzi " 1989 . Why don't you eat pizza in the pizzeria ? it isn't much expensive , at the same cost you can seat in and eat pizza very hot in dishes , there is no reason to use the take away . Di Matteo and Da Michele are my two favorite pizzeria , sometime i prefer Di Matteo ( because it offers a greater choice of pizza to customers ) , other times i prefer Da Michele 'cause is very authentic and natural , and i love the style of that pizzeria , and i lived 20 meters near pizzeria for 2 years , and i knew Michele ( RIP ) the father of the pizzeria owner . Important is : eat pizza in pizzeria ; la pizza si mangia subito, seduti al tavolo della pizzeria che l ' ha fatta , poi si fanno i commenti , Da Michele e da Di Matteo non c' è differenza di prezzo con il take away . La prima cosa da fare è : tagliare la pizza quando è calda , e poi divorarla like a wild beast .
It was a longer wait to eat inside at DaMichele and we wanted to enjoy the weather and not be inside a dark place! Però va bene, la prossima volta la mangeremo nella pizzeria :) Grazie del tuo commento!

Yes, Neapolitan pizza almost melt in your mouth because it's very soft and liquid. While roman pizza it's different, very crispy but delicious as well.

Alexis and Lilian - hi, in cardboard the pizza's taste changes inexorably, you feel cardboard in mouth, if you can use ceramic plate or, as we use walking, folding pizza "a libretto" in 4 parts in a paper's sheet. Ciao

DEARS next time try too GINO SORBILLO (gourmet) , PELLONE and another secrets ..try to pizza house situated not in naples but in other town next it ..for example I MASIANELLI in Caserta ..Remember girls (1 of lots italian secrets.. the best italian cooking is done by ancient familiar activities which produce for a short number of clients where are used own raw material by their factory - farm ;)
