SUGA (Shoo-ga) for Shooting Guard. His favorite position in Basket Ball. Agust D does sound like the month. And AGUST D - is SUGA backwards and DT for Daegu Town (Backwards). *AGUS* T D
You now must complete the trilogy.
    *Suga aka Agust D's Trilogy:*
    Agust D - Daechwita
    Agust D - Haegeum (turn on CC's) - ua-cam.com/video/iy9qZR_OGa0/v-deo.html
    Agust D - Amygdala (turn on CC's) - ua-cam.com/video/IX1dkYoLHVs/v-deo.html
    *Meanings for the song titles*
*Daechwita* - is a genre of Korean traditional music consisting of military music played by wind and percussion instruments, generally performed while the ARMY is marching or as a static performance usually when the King is arriving. (Suga aka Agust D meant the BTS ARMY to be implied.)
*Haegeum* - has two meanings. The first, it's a traditional Korean string instrument, resembling a vertical fiddle with two strings, usually played at Royal Court. Also, it means to lift a ban, or release what is forbidden.
*Amygdala* - is an almond shaped part of our brain which is commonly thought to form the core of a neural system for processing fearful and threatening stimuli, including detection of threat and activation of our fight or flight response. The amygdala helps to store memories of events and emotions so that an individual may be able to recognize similar events in the future.

Suggestion while watching most BTS KOREAN songs: listen THREE times! 1st for vibe, scenes, 2nd for translation & 3rd altogether, OTHERWISE, you MISS so much. There’s DEEP MEANINGS IN EVERYTHING BTS/individual members write/sing. Research those after each song if meaning is unclear or seems surface because it’s NEVER what it seems!

Here's a tip: ARMYs are okay with long reactions. We love long reactions. We love it when a reactor watches the video over and over again, pausing, digesting, analyzing. It's okay. We watch those videos a hundred times and there's always something new to enjoy. BTS's songs are mostly very deep in meaning and symbolism.

My head cannon is that somebody made the mistake of telling Suga that the only reason they were successful is because they were "too western" and Suga said "hold my beer" and came out with Daechwita (traditional military music for the king) and Haegum (a traditional musical instrument).

That is such an old narrative that the members have been confronted with since "forever".
Even Army (I don't mean you - either of you) sometimes falls for and in those anti-narratives instead of accepting them as the multidimensional artist they are.
"This is the music we want to make: f* that!"
One of BTS answers to that was BTW "Idol".
I remember watching a (new) reactor commenting on "D.N.A."'s lyrics and how "over the top" they are not realizing that this is on purpose.
This is after all the beginning of a 3 album conceptline of the "Love Yourself" era and shows the beginning of a "perfect" love relationship that inevitably destroys itself while also giving us later the answer to why that is.
I think Suga said he puts "traps" into his song - if you feel triggered you should reflect on why that is - because he has stopped caring about his haters years ago ("Cypher Pt. 4" is an anthem).
      Fun Fact:
It's absolutly funny how Suga makes fun of Bang PD ("Hitman" Bang - their boss) in a tongue-in-cheek way:
The drawing that is a callback to Jungkook's drawing of Bang with the big nose *and* the way Suga dances in that part - immitating how the man vibes when he hears music he likes - something that will never not be funny.
      You nice! Keep going! 💜

Great reactions. SUGA is pronounced, Shoo ga. He is an avid basketball fan. His favorite position is Shooting Guard, so he used the first two syllables of Shooting and Guard. Now, Agust D is Suga backwards plus Dt for Dague town where he is from. This song is actually part of a trilogy. Daechwita, Haegeum, and lastly Amygdala. He plays both the protagonist and antagonist in the videos. It's somewhat a battle between his alter egos. Honestly, the BTS rappers don't come to play, they go hard. They have several diss tracks too. SUGA & RM took alot of shit from the underground rap community, telling them they sold out to become idols. They also said they sucked as rappers and they would never make it. Well we all know who got the last laugh. 💜

He’s known for being a ridiculously talented producer. His beats are unique and creative. Here he used Daechwita samples which is the traditional instruments you hear as the backbone. As Daechwita is traditionally military music used to announce a king it’s a double meaning he’s announcing himself a king on top. He also fights the part of himself that is greedy wants power etc by trying to ground himself as a man of the people a rebel getting back to his roots. The video and lyrics have tons of callouts to historical Korean events tying into using Daechwita music. It’s a genius level song/MV and it’s all him. All this for a FREE mixtape and he paid out of pocket to make the MV. Who does that??? He does.
Almost 50 here and my former favorite bands were Tool and Rage Against the Machine. The way I am impressed musically lyrically video wise has kept me from ever being bored. Plus social and personal layers of deep meeting. BTS can blow you away if you just give them a chance. Enjoy!

So, they say BTS find you when you need them. I feel that’s true. I understand your misconceptions about who they were going to be, because when my teenage and preteen daughters introduced them to me, that’s what I thought I was going to find. As a 47-year-old mother of four horse trainer in Iowa, what possibly could I have in common with BTS. What happened is I realized that they are not just a Music group, they are a ridiculously good group of human beings, who want to make us all better, and they are a revolution in this world. I grew up loving metal and rock, just like you. My first album was Poison followed by Guns N’ Roses. Until last year the best concert I’ve ever seen was Red Hot chili peppers in the third row. Last year had the honor and privilege ( I do not use those words lightly) of seeing Agust D, a.k.a. Suga, aka Min Yoongi live in Chicago. It was the greatest concert I have ever seen by far. He sang, rapped, danced, played guitar, played piano, engaged with us, and changed clothes four times. It was amazing. The talent of these men is sadly lost on the western world, and I’m glad you have found them. I will continue to watch, and I hope you will listen to your suggestions. I suggest Danger, which has some rock influence. But I think you’ll find you love all the music because of the talent level. We purple you.💜

He is not afraid to tell it like it is and that’s what makes him such a phenomenal artist. He produces his own music and is a freakin lyrical genius. ARMY from the Netherlands here! I love your personality and reactions, you're really funny !
Daechwita is part of his thrilogy: Daechwita - Haegum - Amygdala. All are connected with each other. In the first 2 he is battling different parts of himself. Greed, ego, conformation etc. In Amygdala you hear more about his backstory and struggles and it connects to Daechwita and Haegum again. It's all pretty deep and not always easy to all understand from watching it once. But that's basically the case with almost every BTS song.
I think that's very important to know when getting into BTS: all their songs have layers upon layers and it goes really freaking deep. Their lyricism is like poetry and there's often multiple meanings. Even their pop songs that at first glance look cheesy have meaning. For example Boy with Love, a collaboration with Halsey, the MV tackles the patriarchy and gender roles in society. It looks cute and bright but there's always a reason for everything they do. People who see that song of BTS first think: that's a typical stupid boyband. The whole group starting out the video in bright pink clothes :P But there's always reason and meaning.
My fav songs of BTS? I have many but I cry every time I hear 'Spring Day' (if you watch that, then watch the Italianarmy explaination video with it bc it's really freaking deep - warning, tears guaranteed). I also LOVE LOVE LOVE 'First love' from Suga. They both make me emotional. I also really like V's Singularity. And I love Outro: Tear (live version).
If you want to see some live performances, you can check out their tiny desk concert, bts festa or Run BTS and mic drop from their Busan concert. V also has a good tiny desk concert with songs from his latest album Layover. J-hope's Lollapalooza concert is amazing. Jin was a guest at a concert of Coldplay last year before enlisting, watch Chris Martin's introduction speech and then the footage of the concert, they performed the song Astronaut together, song is written by Coldplay for Jin.
Just have fun with the ride tbh, I've been doing this stuff daily for many months now and I still haven't gone through all of their work. If you want to know more about the members, watch Taylor's guide A guide to BTS: the Bangtan 7. 💜

"Tell me what is ur favorite song"
Hmm... this will be a very very very long answer if i have to list my favorite song from BTS n tbeir solo project 😂😂😂 it's a loooottttttt especially for their side track song is all fire 🔥
But if u asked which song that finally makes me become their fan, it's was "Tomorrow" (and from that song, Suga become my bias too. Bias means u most favorite one). I like all members, but my most favorite one is Suga. Why? Just because he is the one who produce n writing for that song 😆 Suga said, he write 'tomorrow' when he was still in high school, but at that time the lyrcs is more darker since he fell in depression phase at that time. In 2014, that song get choosen to include in BTS album, then he change a bit the lyrics n melody to be more brighter than the original, to give a sense of hope behind the darkness. And the message of that song, really help me to go through my depression state.
My most favorite line from tomorrow lyrics that give me a bit hope n strength is :
"Because the dawn right before the sunrise is the darkest"
"When the dark night passes, A bright morning will come"
I seriously didnt expected with that simple lyrics can help me n remind myself that the dawn right before the sunrise is the darkest time. So, dont give up from the darkness. Coz there is no eternal darkness just like there is no eternal light. That's life.

Thank you! Had a blast watching this. Also liked to hear your story about taking martial arts lessons, very cool. There is a behind the scenes video for a lot of their videos, they wre really nice to watch and you truly learn a lot about the process, etc....
For example I know in the Behind the scenes video for the making of this mv, they show Suga learning to use that sword, etc....
So you also get to understand that that is all real in the video. Suga had to learn to use the sword and than do the choreo for those scenes using the sword as well. It is very interesting to watch.
Infact just a little info, BTS uses green screen I'm sure but not all that much compared to what some may nwturally assume. I know of videos where they had explosions that were real, one were Suga sat infront of a fire, Jhope had a buch of real fire and had real explotions in his video Arson. Etc..., etc....
Mowt all these things are among the stuff you get to qctually see how it was truly done, by watching the behind the scenes videos. Those videos are usually called "Bangtan B0mbs."
I think you can find most of them for free on Bangtan TV, it is a youtube channel. Oh and you may want to make sure to show the opening where they show that it is a Bighit video, I habe been told that doing that is how you can keep from getting it blocked or what not. Now I'm not a hundred percent sure if this is still accurate, so you may want to ask others, or just try and make sure to always show that opening credit for official mv's. BTS and BigHit are usually pretty good about letting their videos be used though.
    Thanks again💜

Thats fantastic! I imagine 90% of all videos use levels of green screen and special effects, but as a rock and roll pyromaniac, I'm pretty good at telling real fire/explosions from digital ones. That's also really awesome to hear he put the work in learning!
Thanks for that tip about the BigHit video. It's odd because some of these get tagged and some don't. Perhaps this is why!

Suga/Agust D is so versatile in his music. There was a lot of anger in him in the beginning. His self titled track Agust D is shit talking his haters from start to finish. I giggled all the way through it because I couldn’t believe some of stuff they let him put in that song.
But he also is very open and honest about his struggles with mental health. His song The Last is heartbreaking in the beginning. It’s referencing a mental breakdown he had that resulted in BTS having to cancel a show. He felt horrible guilt and shame for it. He was also struggling with still being called a sellout for becoming an idol. The song does have a good ending. A lot of his songs have personal stories in them.
His latest album shows so much growth, strength, maturity, and forgiveness. Snooze is an incredible song dedicated to the idols coming up behind him. He’s saying to them what he wishes someone would have said to him and BTS as they were coming up. Idol life is hard and a few have taken their own lives because of it. He doesn’t want anyone else to suffer like that or the way he did for years.

This is the song that made me fall in love with Rap - a little late to the party, I know. But never-the-less, Suga (aka Agust-D - pronounced like the month) I love and adore. You need to know their history more to understand where and why some of their diss songs were made. But, you'll get there. BTW - Daewichta is played for the king when he arrives, like Hail to the Chief is played for our president.

I’m not much of a rap guy (at all!). I have some appreciation for old school rap but it’s so hard for me to get in to today’s rap. My wife likes some of it so it’s inescapable. This was really enjoyable and I was surprised that I actually liked it.

Suga writes his own material. AgustD is a persona he created for his anger. He went through a lot of shit in his youth, but he just kept bottling it up until he made AgustD to spew all his venom.
BTS is heavily influenced by hip-hop so you mentioning BelBivDeVoe was a good thing. Suga, RM and J-Hope are the main songwriters and Suga is also a producer.
Almost 47 year old me absolutely loves the fire he spews, and that's missing from a lot of music these days. (I have a birthday in a few weeks here. Man, where does the time go!?)
And just a side note... Jin gets out of the military in June. J-Hope gets out in October. The rest get out June of next year.

Here's a tid bit for you; Suga, AgustD, Min Yoongi, Yoongi and Lil Meow Meow! These are the names ARMY uses when their are talking about SUGA. When Daechwita came out, I wished the Grammy's took Korean music more seriously because to me, this was the Song & Video of the YEAR.

If you say DESH_IH_TAH you won’t be far off the pronunciation he uses in the song. Daechwita translates to ‘great blowing and hitting’ and is traditional military music used to announce the presence of the King. It’s sampled throughout the track.
I would definitely recommend watching an explanation video or two for this masterpiece. Probably the DKDKTV and Bookish Theories ones, which bring out different elements. There’s a huge amount of historical, cultural and personal reference packed into the song and video.
Since you’re on this path, you could carry on with the Agust D trilogy. The next song/video is ‘Haegeum’, followed by ‘Amygdala’ (which lays out some of the personal trauma that led to the ‘birth’ of his Agust D persona). If you want to explore his solo work further, there are three Agust D albums: Agust D (2016), D-2 (2020) and D-Day (2023).
For a small taste of BTS as a whole, I’d suggest ‘Black Swan’, followed by ‘ON: Kinetic Manifesto’. They may seem very different from each other but they’re actually closely related, ON being a kind of thematic sequel to Black Swan. I will say though, it is going to take a while for you to really get a sense of just how diverse and deep the group’s discography is. Enjoy the journey.

This song has layered meaning. Besides a celebration of his success it has lots of Korean cultural references, and a Daechwita played at the beginning. It's also part of a trilogy which is the story of his mental health journey through his trauma. He is healing and conquering different aspects of himself, his shadows. In this MV he is conquering his rage, paranoia and isolation (in the Mad King.) The scar represents his trauma. It is more raw and fresh on the Mad King and more healed on Peasant Agust D (Agust D is Suga Backwards, plus DT for Deagu Town, his hometown and the name of his original underground rap crew before BTS.)
Other Agust D to check out:
    Agust D
    Give It To Me
    Interlude: Shadow
    Burn It
People (Try it live from his D-Day world tour)

I appreciate you reading the comments. Love your intro speech, you're so funny!
It's hard for me to pick a favorite BTS song. It's like, every song they release is my new favorite, which means my latest favorite is "wherever u r" by Umi, ft. V of BTS. It's a gentle acoustic songs by two beautiful voices. And just yesterday, a popular Korean singer/actress, IU, released her song, "Love Wins All", with V as her co-star in the MV. Such a heart-breakingly beautiful story and top-notch acting by both stars. Everyone is crying over the MV right now. Yes, I teared up as well when I first watched it.
But let me talk about Agust D since this is a reaction to his song. First off, like others have said, this is the first MV in his trilogy. So I hope you'll react to the next MVs soon, "Haegeum" and "Amygdala". Remember the scar, that's all I have to say about it.
Second, so far he's the only member who has done a solo tour, and what a tour it was! Phenomenal. It was in April through August last year, but the performances have stayed with me to this day, they were that impactful. I still rewatch them and never get tired of it. My latest obsession is his performance of "Life Goes On", where he sings and plays the piano (the performance edit video from BTSPurpleYou is a good one).

Agust D is a great producer who has always absolutely killed it at integrating traditional instruments into his works as a producer across many genres (he's so good, one of his nicknames has been the hand of midas for how he can make anything gold). It's more than likely not your style, but Autumn Leaves (aka Dead Leaves) also demonstrates this. Along with some insane not common chord patterns and progressions and circular synths that aren't common in modern music. However! That's not a must. I just adore it as a musician bc it's put together so insanely well, lyrically, production wise, instrumentally, etc.
Thank you for always being honest in your reactions and giving thoughts to it. It's refreshing and I appreciate the honesty because nobody always loves all their music across the genres 1000%, but when you do, your honesty makes it all the better and more joyful for me as a watcher, because someone else truly loves a piece of music that I love.

So much of what I’ve been listening to isn’t my taste or style (or at least what I thought wasn’t) but I’m really enjoying this musical journey and have been blown away by how much music I thought I’d hate and ended up really enjoying (such as BTS and James Blount!).

I'm not sure how much you know about Min YoonGi aka Suga/AugstD....but as you liked his MV then the following info might be of interest to you.
Suga/Agust D began writing music lyrics and working with MIDI at age 11 and held a part-time job composing and arranging music at a recording studio at age 16.
Active under the name "Gloss" (wordplay on his name YoonGi, which means "to shine") as an underground rapper in his hometown Daegu, He originally entered Big Hit Entertainment as a producer at age 17 and became the second member to join BTS..... At BTS debut in 2013 he was 20 y.o.... he is one of BTSs main producers/songwriters/composers and has over 150 song copyrights.... he also produces for other artists and has won awards for his work.... he is one of the fastest rappers in South Korea.
Suga (SHU-GA.... from Shooting Guard - the position he played in basketball) ...... AgustD = SUGA + DT (Daegu Town - his hometown) Spelt Backwards
Between his commitments as a member of BTS, Suga/Agust D took advantage of time on the plane and in hotel rooms after concerts to continuously produce, write and compose music.
In an interview for Grazia Korea, Suga/Agust D expressed a desire to release the music he wanted to do without having to consider popular appeal or music ranking. He intended to release his music for free in the form of a mixtape to avoid such considerations, commenting that an album "has a feeling of being trapped in some sort of framework" due to the need for company involvement in promotion and advertising. He has released 2 mixtapes - and last year released his first official album (of which he continues to maintain full creative control)
Developing Agust D musically on the base of hip hop, much of Agust D's inspiration for the lyrics came from his own stories of dream, youth, and reality. In order to differentiate his work from that of his work as Suga, he developed the alter ego "Agust D". He is best known for his honest hardhitting lyrics.
Bookish Theories UA-cam channel has really good explanations to BTS videos as there is a lot of cultural references and depth to this song that really will blow your mind
This is the first song in a trilogy..... He is a master storyteller.... a fellow army best explained the trilogy as -
Daechwita... ridding himself of the need to prove his worth to others
Haegeum... ridding himself of the confines of modern society
Amygdala... he investigates the inner demons and trauma that started his confinement in the first place.
Suga/AgustD wrote, composed and produced the songs, he conceptualised the MVs and had creative control (working as usual with Director Lumpens (Choi YongSeok) who does most BTS MVs)
    Fun facts -
The gun used was a Colt M 1860 ARMY
Daechwita is Traditional Joseon Korean Royal Parade/Military Music - notifying all that the king is here
Yoongi(Suga) is a member of the clan of the very last empress of Korea.
Daejanggeum Park is where the MV was filmed.... It is a giant film set that doubles as a public historical park where people can come to "experience" old times.
Hope you have a great day💜💜Sending Greetings from Australia

I have been watching all of your BTS reactions tonight. I found you to be abrasive in the first one. Then I thought back to how I reacted the first time I saw a BTS video. I am a 56 year old American woman (retired 911 Dispatcher). I saw Dynamite by accident. I remember thinking, what the hell is this? Why are they wearing those pastel clothes and why do I feel like I just transported back to the 70's? I hated it. There was one thing that caught my attention. The dancing. Their dancing made me watch the next BTS video ("ON" Kinetic Manifesto Film) and I was lost. I started watching all of their videos for the dancing. Then I saw one that made me curious enough to google the lyrics. (I didn't know about subtitles etc) The song was Spring Day. The lyrics were absolutely stunningly heartbreaking while being uplifting at the same time. I began translating all of their lyrics and then figured out the subtitles. There is a saying in the fandom. BTS finds you when you need them the most. At the time I found BTS I had lost all but one of my family members within the space of 3 years. I was depressed and suffering with PTSD and severe suicidal ideations. BTS literally saved my life. The lyrics to their songs helped me remember that I was not the one who died. That I am still alive. That I am worth something. I listen to a song by BTS's Jimin called "Promise" every single day to make sure I never forget that I can't give up. I will be grateful to them for the rest of my life. I lost my Dad last year and my family is gone now but BTS music has helped keep me going while I learn how to live without them. BTS's English songs, Dynamite, Butter, and Permission to Dance were done to uplift people during covid and were specifically for a positive vibe. When you listen to them, keep that in mind. BTS's Korean music is so much better than anything we have in America. They are positive but still get their point across. The biggest suggestion I have for you is to look for explanation videos when you are doing their Korean music. We miss so much because we are not familiar with the Korean culture and references. When you know the full explanation of the songs, they hit so much harder. Especially the rap songs. For those I suggest DKDKtv's explanation videos. I highly recommend Spring Day and the explanation video by Italian Army. The song has never left the Korean charts for a very good reason and they call it the Queen. I also recommend you watch "A Guide to BTS Members: The Bangtan 7 by Taylor Mari. It is fantastic. Army loves watching it with reactors and will watch the whole thing in one sitting. It is prefered that way. (long video but worth the time). I think you are pretty darn funny and I like your commentary. I want to wish you luck in your journey and I really do hope you will find more music from BTS that you enjoy or that moves you. They can soothe your soul if you let them. Anyway, thank you for taking the time to listen to them and for giving us entertaining reactions. I purple you. Ps, subscribed.

To be honest, I’m pretty sure my tombstone will be shaped like a Brillo pad. I can be a touch abrasive. 🤪
I like doing these completely unprepared. It replicates the feeling of hearing a new song on the radio for the very first time. You have 4 minutes to decide if you like the song and 4 minutes to try to figure out the message. No backstory and no guide. A true first time experience.
That said, I do dip in to guides and Wikipedia and (mostly) comments from Army and others to learn what I didn’t know through the first time through.
I’ll be hitting up the Taylor Mari guide soon. Just wanted to get exposure to each individual member before doing so.
Thank you so much for the comments and feedbacks. I promise my abrasivesness has a good smelling soapy side. 💜😎🔥

For some reason, this comment was stuck behind the censorship wall and I just saw it now. Probably because you called me abrasive.
I am. I know it. I’m not everyone’s cup of tea but I will always be authentically me - for better or worse.
Hopefully you’ve watched a few more of my BTS reactions and have seen how the guys are growing on me. I’m digging it and really learning a whole lot along the way! 💜
