Agreed. The best version is from Chicago 1980. You couldn’t have put it better: I always describe it as like paying witness to an exorcism. Lindsey sounds less like he’s performing, and more as if the music is being violently torn from his voice and guitar.
Lindsey isn't usually on the list of top rock guitarists because he isn't known for his dynamic, fast, leads. But Lindsey has so much creativity and ingenuity in his guitar playing in all of these songs. He is a genius in what he does as much as any other guitarist out there.
"World Turning" is one of Fleetwood Mac's greatest songs. The vocals on this version have real teeth, Mic is killing it on drums. You can't get better fire vocals than Christine and Lindsay together, love when they are together and a duet on her songs. Think About Me off Tusk is one of my favorite Fleetwood Mac songs. Hold Me off Mirage is a more popular great example. So Afraid is a great Lindsay Fleetwood Mac classic. When your 12 and going through it the fatality helps in an empathic way. Unforgetable.
Lindsey is a magnificent guitarist - really quite underrated. I love when he cuts loose, but it's his precision and artistry that is masterful. I'm So Afraid is an amazing banger live. And World Turning another great blues track -- the first duet of many between Buckingham and McVie.
I'm So Afraid perfectly sums up my state of soul and mind right now, This minute. It's why I listen to so much music. It keeps me from falling off the edge and sane. The musicianship on this track is flawless.
The live performances of World Turning are wild - Mick goes nuts with his percussion drum. I forget what it's called but it's unique. Lindsey doing I'm So Afraid live is an experience you'll never forget. He rips that guitar to shreds.
watch the live version of "i'm so afraid" from "the dance" concert. lindsey buckingham is like a man possessed during the solo at the end. he becomes one with his guitar.
Syed, the imagery on the wall behind you reminds me of a book I read several times years ago titled "The Tao of Physics" by Fritjof Capra. It was very enlightening.
Really big compliment for the review of this album. As an old hand, I always get new aspects and ways of listening from time to time - maybe I should keep quiet now. For a change, you could opt for 1-2 live tracks. A 3'-4' song turns into a longer, worthwhile musical journey full of passion and dynamics: Rhiannon, I'm Afraid or World Turning (percussion solo; versions from 8'-13'), not forgetting the acoustic Landslide. Whatever you decide, I'm happy to let myself go!!!
So Afraid, that final, dark song, has what I think of as an Native American tribal feel to the drums. And that makes me think I should suggest some Native American artists to you. • Come & Get Your Love. By Redbone. • The Witch Queen of New Orleans. BY Redbone • Somewhere Down The Crazy River. By Robbie Robertson (formerly of The Band. Canadian/Indigenous) • Showdown at Big Sky. By Robbie Robertson • Sweet Fire of Love. By Robbie Robertson (and some of U2) • Rumble. By Link Wray (If you saw Pulp Fiction you heard some of it. Intrumental.) These are all good! That whole album by Robbie Robertson is fun.
Lovely analyses, as always, but if you can, you have got to check out some live performances by these guys. Two of the absolute best are from their 1982 Mirage Tour, "The Chain" (if you want screeching guitars and voices, omg!!), and "I"m So Afraid." Incredible. Both of those performances blow the album versions away.
First, thank you for doing this entire album and so thoughtfully. Great job! I like what you said about the way it was mixed. Flawless sound over the entire album and from so long ago. As the person to whom Sugar Baby was being sung, I’m afraid I would remain unconvinced, or certainly unenthused! 😂
Great reaction! Amazing album. I'll repeat what many have said, you absolutely have to check out the live version of I'm So Afraid - specifically from The Dance in '97. Lindsay (and the whole band) completely rip that song. Probably in my top 10 guitar solos!
My favorite live version of I'm So Afraid is from the "Mirage Tour" in '82. The solo lasts a good 4 mins but it keeps evolving never gets boring. Glad you liked the whole album.
I highly recommend the live version of I’m So Afraid from The Dance. Truly mesmerising guitar playing. Also, the live vocal carries so much more impact and emotion. The studio version’s vocals are way too soft for me. Sure you’d love the live version!!
I may have the terminology sideways or something, but I think the lead vocal effect on 'World Turning' is along the lines of a reverse echo or similar: the effect precedes the actual vocal slightly. Like anything, effective used wisely judiciously. Great track all round imo.
Love your reaction to the album ~ As many commentators have said - try listening to the live version of “I'm So Afraid”. Take our pick from the selection below and see which is your favourite. 1) I'm so Afraid - Fleetwood Mac - 1976 Live Rosebud ua-cam.com/video/v5kOzGwsHXw/v-deo.html 2) I'm so Afraid - Fleetwood Mac - 1980 Live (audio - album version) ua-cam.com/video/qRkhE9gQw6g/v-deo.html 3) I'm so Afraid - Fleetwood Mac - 1982 Live (Mirage Tour) ua-cam.com/video/HPNGKZHRFSU/v-deo.html 4) I'm so Afraid - Fleetwood Mac - Live 1997 (The Dance) ua-cam.com/video/6OrtLxsqSic/v-deo.html
If you you crank up the volume on the very end of the song you can hear her laughing. She was being cheeky. I just wish she would have used this melody on a song she was more serious about.
This is also a band that can pull it off live. They're not missing anything. Some bands have to change their sound because it doesn't translate live Not them.
I think the main issue with today's music scene is the fact that most record labels are straight up evil. You can't become famous with them unless you sell your soul.
You really have to do a live version of any song Lindsey Buckingham ripping his guitar. Those "guitars" is only one guitar played by one man in one setting. Anytime he's left the band, they had to hire two guitarists to do what he does on his one. 😁
As good as I'm So Afraid is on the album it grew into an absolute beast live - far longer and more powerful.
I don't often say this because I'm big on album versions but you should do a live version of I'm so afraid. Buckingham is like a man possessed.
Agreed. The best version is from Chicago 1980. You couldn’t have put it better: I always describe it as like paying witness to an exorcism. Lindsey sounds less like he’s performing, and more as if the music is being violently torn from his voice and guitar.
I’m so Afraid live is such an epic animal with Stevie coming in with her powerful harmonies in the Chorus.
Lindsey isn't usually on the list of top rock guitarists because he isn't known for his dynamic, fast, leads. But Lindsey has so much creativity and ingenuity in his guitar playing in all of these songs. He is a genius in what he does as much as any other guitarist out there.
His guitar tones are unique and purposeful.

Great album. How can they possibly follow up this? Oh yeah.
I’d check out the live version of this from “The Dance” (video) so you can see him doing his solo. It’s unreal that it’s only one person. 🎸
best version ever.
Lindsey is a magnificent guitarist - really quite underrated. I love when he cuts loose, but it's his precision and artistry that is masterful. I'm So Afraid is an amazing banger live. And World Turning another great blues track -- the first duet of many between Buckingham and McVie.
I saw Lindsey on his solo tours a few time. I'm So Afraid was a show stopper on both occasions.
Love the live version from I'm so Afraid, 1976, check it out, great guitar work
Lindsey is a great performer
You need to see ‘I’m so afraid’ live from The Dance concert. It kills this album version, Buckingham is a monster on the guitar
The vocals are doubled, which just means he sang them twice (layered). Makes it sound thicker and often feels like a slight delay
I'm So Afraid perfectly sums up my state of soul and mind right now, This minute. It's why I listen to so much music. It keeps me from falling off the edge and sane.

I think he uses what's called an African Talking Drum. (?)
watch the live version of "i'm so afraid" from "the dance" concert. lindsey buckingham is like a man possessed during the solo at the end. he becomes one with his guitar.
Wait until you hear Rumours. It’s the #6 selling album of all time; however, there’s only 1.1 million copies between #3 and #6.
Syed, the imagery on the wall behind you reminds me of a book I read several times years ago titled "The Tao of Physics" by Fritjof Capra. It was very enlightening.
I'm So Afraid You must to listen on live version... It's awesome!
"I'm So Afraid" live 1976 on UA-cam. I just did the turn it up signal with my thumbs like Syed does.
You are quickly becoming one of my favorite
Reactors. Great taste in music 😘✌️😎
So glad for Mick's vision in bring Stevie and Lindsay into the mix. Epic move.
Thanks for doing "I'm So Afraid", love that song hair on neck raising stuff. You need to do the live version its amazing from The Dance Concert.
Thanks for this reaction. When I first heard this album, I thought it was a perfect record...until Rumours.
I'm So Afraid becomes a monster live. Preferably from the 1980 Live album.
“I’m So Afraid” is father to “The Chain.”
My favorite guitarist
One of these days you'll probably get to "Big Love". That's his tour de force. Once again - the live version is best.
Really big compliment for the review of this album.
As an old hand, I always get new aspects and ways of listening from time to time - maybe I should keep quiet now.

Nah, most underrated guitarist was the genius who founded the band originally, Peter Green ( not meant as any slur against Lindsey Buckingham )
So Afraid, that final, dark song, has what I think of as an Native American tribal feel to the drums.
And that makes me think I should suggest some Native American artists to you.

"degenerate sugar daddy shit"
i think i'm coming around to your channel! nothing disingenuous about that statement! gotta love it... ❤😂

I’m so afraid live 1976 is out of this world. Buckingham totally amazing. Ten times more dramatic.
Love your reaction to the album ~

You should check out stevie singing crystal from the practical magic soundtrack
I prefer the Fleetwood Mac over Rumors, though Rumors was far more popular. Mick's percussion ALWAYS pounds right into my soul.
Just knowing the regal Christie McVie, I'll bet Sugar Daddy is the the one she regrets the most.
Nah...I think she was just being cheeky!

peter Green is my man. The only man to make Ben E Kung sweat. In awe. Totally different from later FM but still brilliant. Check him, please?
For Monte Montgomery fans, he covered "World Turning" solo during a pandemic livestream

I think the main issue with today's music scene is the fact that most record labels are straight up evil. You can't become famous with them unless you sell your soul.
Do a reaction to Hypnotized or Oh Well ,an early FM song
Lindsey brought some country twang to the band.
Folk
@@caps689 that too.

christine had a lot of slower songs as well. But as USUAL everyone just mentions NIcks. It's getting old.
What are you talking about? He’s done shout outs for McVie many times in the course of this album reaction. He loves MacVie’s voice and has said so.
You must listen to Big Love - live version best. Lindsey’s best IMO.
please react to the four horsemen by Aphrodite's child
pls react to "2022 em uma música" from inutilismo
Sugar Daddy probably the weakest track of the album, but awesome album
